Joss sat on the porch swing and warily watched Trina pace the width of the porch, obviously agitated. She wondered what Spencer had told her that had gotten her so frustrated.
"Trina...what's wrong? You seem mad at me," Joss asked, not able to take the silence anymore.
"I am mad at you. You've been lying to me," Trina stopped pacing and faced her friend. She thought that they shared everything with each other! That's why she had shared Spencer's evidence so readily because she had trusted Joss that much! But obviously, that feeling wasn't mutual!
"I have not! What did I lie about? What did Spencer tell you?"
"Cam, Joss. You lied to me about Cam. You told me that you two were growing apart and that was the reason that you broke up."
"It was! I swear it was!"
"So you didn't sleep with Dex before you broke up with Cam? Look me in the eyes and say that! Tell me that's the truth!"
Joss opened her mouth, then closed it. Tears gleamed in her eyes. "Trina...I...I don't know what to say…"
"Say that it didn't happen like that! Simple!"
Joss bowed her head and sniffed. "I can't."
"So you lied to me."
"No!" Joss got to her feet, her voice desperate. "No, I didn't lie to you! I just didn't tell you everything!"
"That's lying by omission, Joss!"
"Oh my god, ok. Fine! I had slept with Dex before I broke up with Cam, but I didn't mean for it to happen that way! It just did. I had meant to break up with Cam before it even got that far...but things didn't go as planned and I never meant to hurt Cam as bad as I did...honest! You have to believe me!"
"But you did and then you lied about it, but that's not what hurts here! That is not what makes me mad!"
Joss frowned. "What is it, then?"
"Not once have I ever held back with you. I keep telling you every single thing that goes on in my life, even when it's a secret...and then when I share that secret with you...you...use it against someone. Like when Spencer gave me that art book and I told you not to tell anyone about it...what do you do? Rub it in Esme's face! That's probably what triggered the revenge porn! And recently, when I told you what Spencer's uncle left him...not only did you blab to Dex, you used it to poke at Spencer! You act like you can't trust me when it's me who can't trust you!"
"Trina, that's not…"
"And we're supposed to be best friends, but best friends share things. Best friends don't keep secrets! I've told you all about my stuff, but you tell me nothing about yours and that's not fair, Joss! I mean...don't you see how that looks? How lopsided that is?!"
Joss bowed her head, tears were now streaming from her eyes. "I...I didn't see it...but I do now and I'm sorry, Trina. I never meant for things to be so uneven between us. It's just...a lot of things with Dex had to be kept secret and it wasn't that I didn't trust you…"
"It's that you didn't trust me...when I trusted you when I shouldn't have. Well, not to worry. I won't be making that mistake again," Trina turned to go inside.
"Wait! Where are you going? We have to straighten this out!"
"No, we really don't. What I need to do is get my things and find somewhere else to stay."
"Trina, no. You don't have to go, you can stay here! There's nothing else that you don't know, I promise and I'll be truthful from now on."
"I...I don't know, Joss…"
"Just stay here for a few more days. Give me a chance to make things up to you, alright? Don't leave yet…"
Trina sighed. She really should leave. She could go back home or to Ava's, but it all seemed so daunting and she was exhausted from both of the emotional talks. She just needed time to sleep and think about what her next steps were.
"Alright. Fine, I'll stay for a few more days, but then I'm gone. I just...need to be by myself for a little bit."
"I really am sorry, Trina," Joss hugged her friend, hoping that everything was smoothed over.
"So am I," Trina sighed miserably. Right now, she wanted Spencer more than anything, but she was sure that he was busy with Esme.
…..
Spencer was setting in the living room with Ace in his arms while he watched some boring reality show. Thankfully, Esme was at work, so it was just him. He did feel better than he had earlier in the day. He and Trina had talked and made up. Now, he just had to figure out how to make things better for her.
"Your brother has to come up with a way to get rid of your mommy. Any ideas?" He asked the baby who was really paying him no attention. He sighed and shook his head. "I didn't think so."
Spencer sighed as his attention went back to the tv, where a commercial was playing. It was a tourism ad for Maine. The Ad was begging him to come to Maine and see the lights, enjoy the nightlife, visit the beaches, walk through the museums, and soak up the history. When the commercial went off, Spencer's eyes lit up with an idea! Trina had spoken of how things were so much simpler on the Haunted Star! How they had been away from everyone and everything and it had just been her and Spencer against the world! Why couldn't it be that way again? They can just pack up and leave on a road trip! Just him and her and no interruptions!
Then his smile faded when Ace began to cry. He looked at the fussy baby, knowing that for him, picking up and leaving wasn't that simple. He had a baby brother to worry about. Their father had already picked up and walked off, abandoning them both. How could he even think of doing the same, when Ace needed him! He was the only family he had that he could trust….or was he? His cousin Sam! She could take Ace!
First...he had to take care of Ace. So keeping the baby in his arms, he went about making him a bottle, changing him, and then putting him down for his afternoon nap. Then he returned to the living room and dialed Sam's number.
"Hey, Spencer. Feeling better after the other night?"
Spencer winced. Right. Sam and Dante had been there to witness that stupid fight. How embarrassing. "Um, yeah. I'm good now. Um...Sam...can you do me a favor? I'm going to be leaving town and I need someone to keep an eye on Esme and Ace. Can you do it?"
"Keep an eye on Esme and Ace? What do you mean? What do you want me to do?"
"Well...if something should happen with Esme, like her memory returns or something...can you take Ace? Grandmother's in Chechnya and I really need to take Trina where we can get some alone time and...I can't do that with Esme and Ace around. You know what I mean?"
"Yes...I know. Well...ok. Fine, I'll do it. I doubt that I'd be needed anyway, but I'll keep an eye on things. You just do what you need to do for Trina. She puts up with a lot from you, you know."
"I know, believe me, I know," Spencer chuckled. "Thank you."
"Uh-huh. Take care, Spencer," Sam hung up.
Spencer gave a satisfied grin. Ok. That was taken care of...now he had to prepare to set some things in motion that will take care of Esme once and for all. He knew that Trina wouldn't agree with what he was about to do, but it was either Esme or Trina and his choice was Trina all day every day.
He dialed Martin Grey's number, hoping that his Uncle would help. "Hey, Uncle Martin! Can you do me a favor and come watch Ace for me? I have to run an errand! It won't be long. If you get here now, you probably won't have to do much. I'm just going to the bank and I'll be right back. Sure...thank you, Uncle Martin."
Ten minutes later, Martin was at the door. Spencer let him in and told him that he'll be back in fifteen minutes. He just had to retrieve something from the bank. It indeed didn't take long to go to the back, get into the safety deposit box, and retrieve the fake evidence that his Uncle Victor had left him. He then hurried back home to Martin, who was calmly watching TV while Ace still slept.
"Well, that was indeed fast young man," Martin commented.
Spencer just smiled. "Of course. Uncle Martin, can you do one more thing for me? It's important…"
"What is it this time?"
Spencer handed Martin the evidence and met his eyes fully. "Turn this in to the police. Tell them that Your source is anonymous. It's evidence of the crimes Esme had committed against my friends."
Martin's eyes widened. "Are you serious? Is it real?"
"As far as I know," Spencer lied. He didn't want to even hint that he suspected that it wasn't. He just wanted Esme gone and out of their lives for good, so Trina wouldn't have to worry anymore.
"Why don't you want anyone to know that you were the one giving it to me?"
"My last name is Cassadine. Would you trust it if someone with my last name gave it to you?"
Martin smirked. "You have a point there. Alright. As a favor to you and my dear sister, I'll do this."
"Cool...I'll most likely be out of town and with Grandmother gone...will you make sure that my cousin Sam gets at least temporary custody of Ace?"
"I suppose that I can arrange that," Martin nodded. "Where are you going, may I ask?"
"Taking my girl on a road trip. The first stop will be Maine," Spencer happily smiled, feeling that everything was going to fall into place effortlessly. "I will keep in touch though."
"I shall hope so. I'll turn this in first thing tomorrow."
"That'll be great! Thank you, Uncle Martin," Spencer watched the lawyer leave with the evidence. Then he got on the phone and began to make arrangements for a trip of a lifetime for himself and the love of his life. "Don't worry, Trina. Soon it'll be just me and you. No one else will matter."
