A loud rumble of thunder grumbled it's way across the overcast Nevarro sky.
Lysa, on her battered old landspeeder which was juddering its way across the lava flats towards Jawa territory, glanced skywards at the ominous sound.
It was late afternoon, and the clouds had been threatening a storm all day.
It was indeed rare to have a storm on Nevarro, but the season had been an odd one. Likely something to do with the temperamental, volcanic place's slight shift in atmosphere, due to several eruptions on the southern, inhabitable side of the large planet.
Lysa knew that she just had one more delivery to make and she could go home. Hoping to miss any downpours that might accompany the storm clouds, despite having her travel cloak safely tucked away at her side.
Just one more stop and then she could head back to Din and Grogu's cabin. Back to the place which she thought of as home now.
Lysa knew she would likely need to return to the city and her small apartment some day soon. But for now, she would enjoy her time with Din and Grogu. Their home a peaceful space, compared to the noisy and often dangerous streets of the North side of the city.
But she needed to remember that as lovely as this perfect little life with Din was- it surely couldn't last.
For Din deserved far better than someone like her.
A Mandalorian needed an equal at his side. Not a mere nobody baker from Naboo.
But despite all this, it was hard for Lysa not to bask in the warm glow of the past week. Feeling so wrapped up in Din and Grogu.
They truly meant so much to her. And each day, as she stepped through the cabin door, arriving home from work, her heart seemed to skip a beat as she laid eyes on them. Unable to stop the smile slipping onto her face.
They had made her life worth living again after so many years of just - existing.
And Lysa was so grateful for that.
Things between her and Din had been truly amazing.
Lysa had never before felt an instant connection to another, like she had with the tall Mandalorian. The sex they had was like nothing she had experienced before. Their bodies fitting together like they had been made for one another. Absolutely, meant to be.
She felt practically worshipped by him in the darkness of his Sleeper. His lips having grazed almost every inch of her skin this past week. As though she was his very addiction.
Although Lysa didn't feel far behind him, feeling so intoxicated by every little thing he did and every syllable he uttered into her ear. His words of utter adoration the previous evening, his affectionate name for her spoken in the Mandalorian tongue, only proving his devotion for her.
Lysa knew now that she loved him. There was no denying it anymore.
But it scared her, to think of opening herself up to someone so soon after having her heart broken by Crix - a man who she doubted ever having ever felt anything for her in return.
And what if Din didn't quite feel the same sort of love for her as she felt for him?
Perhaps he also knew as well as she did, that what was between them could not last? That he deserved someone far better than a woman like Lysa.
Another crash of thunder sounded suddenly overhead breaking Lysa from her thoughts, as she felt the first spots of rain suddenly land on her face.
Wincing against the droplets, she pushed her landspeeder to go faster, the ancient engine chugging ever-louder as she hurtled between the large rocky slopes built up either side of her.
On the other side of the mountainous trench was Jawa territory, if she could just make it there she could then shelter with them until the storm passed.
But Lysa, so distracted by the rain, didn't notice the trail of wire stretched out across the path, two feet up from the ground.
A wire which Lysa's little vehicle was hurtling towards at a great speed…
All of a sudden there was an ear-splitting bang…as her speeder collided with the wire, sending an immediate purple pulse-wave flooding instantly over the small ship…
…the impact was so great, it sent the battered old vehicle hurtling into the air where it flipped over on itself…
…flipping twice before landing against the rock face with a juddering crash….
…throwing Lysa instantly from her ship, where she hit on the hard ground with a violent thud, her head colliding with a small flat rock on impact.
The cloud of black lava dust took a long moment to settle.
As the violence of the crash became evident.
Crushed loaves of bread and colourful fruit lay spoiled on the ground, littered around what was left of the crumpled and smoking landspeeder.
And Lysa, lying on the ground nearby could only groan out, blinking her eyes open woozily…
…head spinning as she slipped in and out of consciousness.
From somewhere in the distance, she was sure she heard a voice.
"Din?" she croaked out, feeling droplets of rain soaking her face, as she attempted to blurrily stare up at the grey sky above.
She blinked again heavily, certain she could also hear the sound of Jawas. But perhaps she was mistaken.
Her body felt like it didn't even belong to her, as she turned her head to the side…
…a pair of heavy black boots suddenly swimming into view, approaching her slowly and coming to stop at her side.
"This her?" came a voice she didn't recognise. It was gravelly and hard sounding, as she felt the person's booted foot rudely nudge her shoulder…
…just as the sight of another pair of feet approached from behind.
Lysa frowned against the falling rain. Her eyelids felt heavy, but she shifted her head slightly, as the face of the two figures drifted into view.
The man on the left was human. Older and bearded and not someone Lysa thought she recognised.
But as her eyes travelled over to the man stood beside him, Lysa could only let out a wail of anguish…
…recognising him instantly despite her vision and her mind being addled by the impact.
She watched now as a foul smirk slipped its way over his lips in reaction to the noise she made, lifting something that resembled a large black staff in both of his hands.
"Hey, Lys'…"
And before Lysa could say or do anything more, she was struck painfully across the head…
…what was left of her consciousness, fading instantly into darkness.
