Authors Note- And would you look at this. I finally got around to updating this fic...and hopefully others but this is the first. Sorry, it took me an insanely long time. Life you know? But rambles aside as you can gather by now I don't own Transformers that belongs to Hasbro. I only borrow them for my own amusement. I do however own the plot. Now, that we got that out of the way here is Chapter Five for My Best Friends Partner. I hope you enjoy.
Chapter Five.
The next morning had come far too early for Miko's liking. With a yawn she rolled out of bed, wincing as her injuries throbbed slightly. Memories of what had happened flashed through her foggy mind, as she made her way to the bathroom. Shedding off her clothes, memories of Breakdown flashed through her mind. Of running from the Decepticon, of thinking she was going to die.
Granted, ever since she had joined Team Prime she was no stranger to risking her neck. But the fact that Breakdown had actually went after her while she was alone sent a shiver down her spine. Turning on the water she stepped under the spray of hot water, and sighed as her eyes slid closed. Obviously Breakdown hated Bulkhead just enough to harm her to get at him. And he would have gotten away with doing just that had Wheeljack not swooped in at the right time. Sending the Decepticon running off with his tail between his legs, and her no worst for wear. Aside from a few scrapes and bruises she could say she got from rough housing with her friends if her Host Parents asked.
She doubted they would, and well, hardly anyone at school aside from Jack and Raf paid Miko any attention. Aside from King Douchebag AKA Vince. But after she had nut punched him the last time he had tried to mess with her. After that he pretty much left her alone. After all, Jack seemed to be the bullies main target. Poor Jack, she thought. Stepping out of the shower she went through the motions of getting dressed for another wonderful day of school that Miko no doubt would spend the day sleeping through. And...get detention again for doing so. And because of that Bulkhead would have to spend most of his day waiting for her to get out of detention. Except... Miko stopped by her bedroom window, her gaze going to where Bulkhead was usually waiting for her. And remembered at that moment that Bulkhead was currently down for the count, and now Wheeljack sat where Bulkhead normally did.
Offering Wheeljack a smile she waved at him before gathering up her backpack before heading down her Host Parents a good morning, before heading out the door, a bright smile plastered to her face as she walked towards Wheeljack. Who greeted her and opened his passenger door for the girl.
"How are you?" he asked, as he pulled away from the curb, and made their way to school.
"I'm okay, a little sore but hey things could have been a lot worst." She told him.
"How'd you sleep?" Wheeljack asked, then mentally kicked himself. What kind of conversation was this?
Then again, Wheeljack was never one for conversation. But, still he tried, maybe he thought if he tried to have a conversation with Miko it would close the rift that seemed to form between them. At least, that's what it seemed like to him. But maybe that was just his imagination, unlike most of Team Prime Wheeljack preferred to be alone. And now he had chose to play guardian to Miko. Something he wouldn't normally do if it had been anyone else. But, Wheeljack had this sick feeling that if he wasn't around while Bulkhead was on the mend then those 'Cons would try something again. And that was something Wheeljack could not let happen again.
"Wheeljack?" Miko spoke, jerking him from his thoughts.
"Hmmm?"
"I asked you how your first night was?" Miko asked, trying to get rid of this nearly unbearable silence between the two of them.
However, before Wheeljack could answer her, to tell her that his first night had been rather quiet aside from Miko's neighbors arguing late into the night. But, before he could he let out a startled yelp as a black car with flames painted on it darted out in front of him. Making him hit the breaks, tires screeching, making Miko pitch forward, reaching out to stop herself from kissing the dashboard. While being thankful that she had remembered her seatbelt when she got in.
Blinking she peered out the windshield, and scowled. She recognized that car, Vince.
"What's this guys problem?" Wheeljack growled, as he stopped at a red light, right next to the car that had cut him off.
A frown etched on Miko's face as she met Vince's gaze. At first Vince looked shocked upon seeing her in the passenger seat, green eyes scanning the car she was riding in. Before a smirk formed on his freckled face. Miko watched as the fished for something in his car before glancing straight a head, seeing that the light was still red.
"You know that guy?" Wheeljack asked, as Miko continued to glare at the boy in the other car.
"Wish I didn't." She grumbled, as she continued to watch Vince, just as the bully tossed something at her. Miko hadn't realized what it was until it was too late, and it was splattered all over Wheeljack's windshield.
Apparently Vince had stopped to get a coffee before heading to school, and when he had saw her had tossed what was left onto Wheeljack. Both Miko and Wheeljack were silent as the latter activated his window wipers with a low growl.
"You kidding me?" He muttered, as the light finally went green, and the continued on to school.
"You okay?" Miko asked.
"Why wouldn't I be?" He asked, his tone light, as he followed behind the guy.
"Sorry about him, that's Vince he's a jerk to everyone around him. Well, aside from Sierra that is." Miko told him, leaning back in her seat.
"Why?" Wheeljack asked.
Miko shrugged. "Because he's a spoiled brat whose mommy and daddy gave him everything he wants without actually working for it. And because of that he thinks he's better than anyone else."
"And this Sierra plays into this how?" Wheeljack asked.
At that Miko rolled her eyes, as she slumped down on her seat further, arms crossed. "Because she's popular and pretty, and I guess she's nice." Miko said. But because of that she's got, like ALL the guys tripping over themselves trying to impress her. In hopes of dating her, or having her notice they exist if your name is Jack." Miko rolled her eyes again.
Then looked up as they pulled up to the school. "If you're really curious she's the blonde talking with Jack over there." Miko said, pointing to a blonde haired girl talking with Jack, the boy rubbing his head, a faint pink tinge on his cheeks.
To Wheeljack this 'Sierra' didn't seem anything to write home about, but then again these were humans so there was that. And speaking of humans, he saw the same car from before, with the same smug looking kid from before. Vince was his name according to Miko. Wheeljack said nothing as he moved to join Arcee and Bumblebee in front of the school.
When Vince stole the parking spot he had been going for. Thinking nothing of it Wheeljack then moved to the spot on the other side of Vince's car. When-WHAM!
Miko damn near jumped out of her skin when Vince's door slammed into Wheejack's passenger side door. "Seriously?!" Miko growled, as Vince smirked at her before slamming the door of his car shut before walking off. Rolling down her window Miko assessed the damage, noting flecks of black paint on Wheeljack's door, before shooting glare at the retreating Vince.
Both Raf and Jack having seen this, and were looking on as Miko's face turned red with anger. As she stepped out, her fists clenched at her sides, the girl visible shaking as she followed after Vince. As Wheeljack and the others looked on.
Wheeljack chuckling when he saw Miko grab Vince by the back of his jacket. Yanking him back, causing the red-headed boy to whirl around to face her. Sadly, the two of them were too far away for him, or the others to hear the words being exchanged. But judging by Miko's movements she was none too please with Vince right now. And, while Wheeljack was willing to let what happened go, after all, it wasn't like he couldn't go to the base and wash the gunk off. And as for the dent and paint flecks? He had dealt with worst.
However, Miko seemed intent on ripping Vince a new one, perhaps several. But, it would seem that Vince wasn't taking anything she said seriously, as he shoved the girl down onto the ground. Earning some laughs from several girls laughing, as Vince shoved Miko into the dirt. Jack and Raf rushing to Miko's aid, helping her to her feet.
Okay, Wheeljack thought. He wasn't okay with that. And, yet Miko as Vince disappeared into the school, as she dusted herself of, and shrugged the boys off. Before following after Vince and several other kids into the school.
"You okay?" Arcee asked, jerking Wheeljack from his thoughts.
"Why do you ask?" He asked.
"You just seem awfully quiet." Arcee said.
"I'm fine." Wheeljack told her.
"Got to admit." Arcee said, as the last of the kids filed into the building. "Never thought you'd step up to the plate when it came to looking after Miko."
"Well, someone had to especially after last night. So, I figured until Bulkhead is back on his feet I'd step up." Wheeljack said. That answer seemed to satisfy Arcee as the two-wheeler fell silent after that.
Silence falling over the trio as they waited patiently for the kids to be done with school.
"I really think you should just let it go." Jack insisted, as he, Miko, and Raf all walked to class. He noticed that Miko's mood had turned foul after her little altercation with Vince.
Dirt still stained Miko's leggings, one of them now having a tear in the knee. And these were her favorite leggings too. Grumbling, Miko only rolled her eyes as they stepped into the classroom, noticing several kids giggling as Miko stepped into the room. Jack placed a hand on her shoulder, trying to calm her down before they all took their seats, and got ready for class.
Miko was only half listening, her thoughts of anything but school. As she looked away from the teacher the girl glanced out the window, to where Wheeljack and the others waited patiently. As Miko continued to look out the window, watching as Wheeljack's passenger side door swung open, and into the side of Vince's car. Far harder than Vince had hit him. No doubt one of the benefits of being Cybertronian.
Vince's ride, that had no doubt been bought by his mom or dad, slid a few inches out of his parking spot. A small chuckle escaping Miko's lips. Earning several odd looks from the people around her, clearing her throat she looked sheepish before looking to the teacher.
"Something you want to share with the class, Ms. Nakadai?" The teacher asked, a look of disapproval on the old woman's face.
"No ma'am." Miko said.
The teacher frowned as she looked to Miko for a little longer before turning back to the black board, and continued on with the lesson.
"Freak."
Miko heard Vince whisper, shooting him another dirty look before turning her attention to the teacher. The corner of her mouth turning upwards, she couldn't wait to see how Vince would react when he saw what Wheeljack had done to the jerks car. He would freak out. She could hardly wait until school was over.
Finally. Wheeljack thought, as he heard the bell ring, and saw several kids spill out the double doors of the school. Seeing Jack and Raf moving to where Bumblebee and Arcee. Or in Raf's case tried to. Except Vince, who in Wheeljack's optics just didn't know when to give up when it came to picking on others. And now, he had turned his attention on Raf. Purposely bumping into the smaller boy, knocking him down his glasses falling from his face, and onto the ground.
This did not sit well with Wheeljack, nor did it seem to sit well with Bumblebee, or Arcee for that matter. Vince was a bit larger than Raf. And Raf was always the more quiet, weak kid of Team Prime, compared to Jack or Miko. And Miko seemed to know that as she stormed over to where Vince was currently shoving Jack out of the way, as he loomed over Raf. Green eyes blazing with ill intent as he stooped to grab Raf's backpack off of him. Anger swelled in Wheeljack's chestplate, as he watched Raf, with dirt on one cheek, try in vain to get his backpack back from the bully.
Just as Miko swung at the unsuspecting Vince, who realized it was too late as her fist caught him in the cheek. Catching him off guard, and causing him to stagger. Dropping Raf's backpack as he did so. Wide, green eyes turned to an angry Miko.
"What's your problem?" He growled, turning fully to Miko.
The girls hands balled into fists, eyes narrowed. Ready to fight.
Now this was going to be interesting. Wheeljack thought, optics glued on Miko.
"You got a crush on this little dweeb, or something?" Vince asked, advancing on Miko, Jack's protests to Miko to not get involved going unheeded.
Anger shone in honey colored eyes, as she swung at Vince. Who quickly dodged the blow, and who seemed to have no qualms about hitting a girl. A girl who picked a fight with him, but none the less. Vince was going to make this freak wish she had stayed in Japan. Growling, he took a swing at her, only to find that she was pretty quick on her feet too.
The three Autobots looked on. Arcee groaning as she watched. Bumblebee letting out a whine. All while Jack and Raf tried in vain to stop their friend. Miko was never one to listen to reason. She was reckless and hot-headed, something Wheeljack loved about her. That thought caught him off guard. Where did that come from? Letting out a low growl he shoved these thoughts from his head, and continued to look on. His little wrecker was about to kick the scrap out of Vince.
This fight seemed to go on forever, Jack thought as he bit down on his bottom lip, both Vince and Miko were exchanging blows, neither of them seeming to want to give up. By now Miko seemed to be on the edge of collapsing , blood trickled from her nose and lip, her right eye was bruised, and god knew what other injuries she had suffered. Gritting his teeth Jack moved to break them up when-
"ENOUGH!"
A stern voice shouted, looking up they, along with several other students saw one of the teachers standing there. Wasting no time the middle aged man pushed through the crowd, just as Vince and several of his pals walked away. The red head soon disappearing into the crowd. The teacher turned his attention to Miko. The girl was dabbing at her nose, hissing between her teeth as pain shot through it. Great, not only was she going to get chewed out by her teacher, but her nose also seemed to be broken too.
"Ms. Nakadai! Just what do you think you're doing?!" The teacher asked, seeming to ignore that Vince had been apart of the fight that seemed to draw the attention of all of the students in the school.
"Vince was-"
"I don't care!" The teacher cut her off, preventing Miko from explaining her side of the story. "I don't know how you do things back home, Ms. Nakadai. But here in America we don't start fights at school."
Miko seemed to deflate, as Wheeljack growled, engine revving slightly.
"Easy." Arcee whispered. Words Wheeljack ignored, Miko wouldn't be in this situation if not for Vince. Speaking of Vince, Wheeljack caught movement in his rearview mirror.
A low growl rumbling in his chest when he caught sight of Vince, anger swelling in his chestplate once more. He would show him.
"Wheeljack? Wheeljack!" Arcee called out, as without warning Wheeljack pulled out of the parking spot.
And proceeded to back right into Vince's car. A look of shock on Vince's face as he did so. If he thought the dent in his passenger side was bad, well Vince was going to have a bitch of a time getting this fixed. As Wheeljack backed right into Vince's car. Driving the boy, to the other side of the parking lot. Drawing the attention of several students, including the teacher that was chastising Miko.
Giving the girl a chance to slip away when he did so. All the while Vince sat in his car, eyes wide as he tried to figure out what had happened. His gaze then turned to the car that Miko was in earlier this morning pulled itself away from his ruined car. Its passenger side door opening to allow Miko in. All the while a wet stain formed in the crotch of his pants. If Miko was in the yard, who had been in the car while she was in class, and had they been in there the entire time she had been in class? Vince didn't know but when he did he was going to make them pay. Growling Vince gathered his nerves, and drove off.
"You okay?" Wheeljack asked, as he peeled out of the parking lot.
"I've been better." Miko said, as she dabbed at her bleeding nose, hissing through her teeth as she did so.
"You're a scrappy little thing, aren't you?" He asked.
Miko tried to smile at that, but winced as she tried. "Couldn't just stand by while he picked on Raf like that." She adjusted Wheeljack's rearview mirror, taking a good look at herself.
She looked like scrap if she was being honest, her parents were going to kill her the moment they found out what she had done. And god knew what her Host Parents were going to say. Oh well. Sighing Miko slumped in her seat, the rest of the ride was quiet, as the two of the drove to the Autobot base.
Authors Note- And with that it concludes Chapter Five of My Best Friends Partner. I hope you liked it, and I'll TRY and get chapter six posted at some point. With that being said this is The Exhausted Writer signing off, have a good day.
