Chapter 8 Making a home!

A week later, Sam and Dave had been to Mr. Stemple's office and had found some property which they decided that they would purchase. They were able to purchase the entire lot with cash. Then they went over to see Chris Pruitt, who gladly helped them to design their homes, with a walkway between the two places. They would be able to move in within 3 months after all the permits and other administrative things were completed. Jason invited them to stay at his place for the time being. They were just finishing a drink when Matilda knocked on the door. Jason went to the door and smiled. He gave her a light kiss on her cheek and let her in.

"So, my report is filed. And I am now no longer working. I am considered retired; I even have a pension for working for the government!" she said as she took the wine that Jason offered her. She sat in the chair next to his chair. He had purchased a rocking chair that would fit her. He liked the fact that she was beside him as he sat in his old, worn chair that had been his father's.

"Well, this was certainly a really nice adventure and introduction to Seattle!" said Sam taking a swallow of his shot of whiskey. Dave drank from his shot as did Jason and Matilda who took a sip from her wine.

"This almost feels like old times" said Jason as he remembered when he, Sam and Dave had gone to school and played together, even when they had started working for Jason, they were good friends, even drinking buddies as well.

"Yes, it is like old times, even to the fact that you have 'girl' sitting next to you!" Dave said with a mischievous smile and then looked at Matilda.

"You just had 'a girl' when you were younger?" She asked Jason who looked at Dave and Sam with a that 'if looks could kill' on his face.

"Well, I was young, there weren't that many girls we each found a 'girl,' so it wasn't only me!" Jason said annoyed.

"Well, as I recall it, there was this young lady, I think Julie was her name. She wasn't there very long but it seemed like you had something for her? Heaven knows we tried to get her attention, but she just stayed right by you. Didn't she have a brother as well?" said Dave. Jason just shook his head. Matilda was already to hear about 'Julie,' but Jason shook his head and said:

"Not tonight fella's we have a lady present!" Matilda shot him a glance and he winked they would talk about that episode later. She finished her wine and said goodnight.
"May I walk you to the cottage?" Jason asked and she yes and took his arm. The guys stood up and said goodnight and they went to their respective rooms.

"The stars are exceptionally bright tonight, Jason!" Matilda said.

"Yes, they are!" He agreed, they got to the cottage door and Jason said:

"Matilda, I have known you now for a long time. I would like to marry you if you will have me?" He asked her as he was holding her hands. She looked at him, up and down and when she came to his eyes, his very blue eyes, she felt as if there was a new adventure for her in those eyes.

"Jason, I have met so many men, I have been friends and almost lovers, with some of them. I have never married, my job, my identity has always been to be of service. I have never thought of marriage, a funny thing for a lady who was from a very strict household and also wealthy."

"So, you are saying no?" asked Jason, who stood there waiting for an answer.

"Jason, I am saying not yet. I want us to have time to get to really know each other. We have only been meeting at different times in our lives, but we have not had the time to really get to know each other. You have only known me from my work and in passing, we have never gotten to 'know' each other. I want to spend the time getting to know you first." She said as she looked down at the ground. If she looked into his eyes, she was lost, had lost her heart to him. She wanted him to know her past first before he committed to her. Because of her job there were things she had done that would turn most men off. She knew he wouldn't, but she was afraid he would.

"Oh, okay, what if we just take our time then, Jeremy and Candy did that, I think we can as well. Although, I don't want to wait too long." He said holding her a little closer this time. She felt his strong arms around her, she smelled his manly smell, she was almost lost in that, then she said:

"Let's take a year to get to know each other first. Then go from there!" Matilda said in a wavering, low voice almost a whisper. She looked down at the ground again. He took her chin and moved her mouth close to his, kissing her ever so gently. Then pulling away he said.

"A year, we can do that!" then one more time he kissed her lips, and she kissed him back. They separated and he said good night and she said good night. She watched as he went back to his house and when he went in he turned around and through her a kiss, and she caught it, went into the cottage and smiled.
