After Harry was released from the hospital and learned of the fate of his nimbus 2000 he was kind of miserable. It was then Lucian approached Professor Lupin about teaching Harry to fight the Dementors. It was early December before the full moon.
"Professor, can I have a word?" Lucian asked.
"What can I do for you Mr. Vance?" Remus replied.
"Well I came about two things I wanted to see if you wanted to join Hati this full moon and also if you would be willing to teach Harry to fight the dementors." He explained.
"I'm going to be honest with you son, I have not ever run with a pack in a long time and the fate of my last pack left me rather broken. As for teaching Harry I'm quite surprised he hasn't come and asked me himself yet." said Lupin sullenly.
"I think he is planning too soon which is why I came to put the idea out there. I'm not asking you to form a pack, just run as a free wolf with another wolf. I'm sure your wolf misses it." Lucian replied.
"Tell you the truth I am not as connected to my wolf as you seem to be but I think that is also due to your unique condition of being able to change whenever you like." Lupin told him.
"His wolf is suppressed from years of the potion and his own self loathing. If he were to change without the potion just one night he would be naught but an animal" Hati told Lucian.
"Is there nothing we can do? Would the runes we are working on for mom work for him?"
"They may. Perhaps he can be the first test once we figure out the proper cluster."
"Mr. Vance, are you with me?" Lupin asked, confused.
"Yes sorry Professor Hati and I were having a conversation." He explained.
"Yes well then I shall give teaching Mr. Potter some thought and give an answer. If he seeks me out as for your proposal I regret to inform that I must decline for the foreseeable future. I am too much of a lone wolf now. Good day Mr. Vance." Lupin said, ending the conversation and walking away.
Lucian returned to Gryffindor Tower to see Harry Ron and Hermione in conversation about the sightings of Sirius Black but chose not to get involved. A few days later Harry came back saying Professor Lupin agreed to teach him to fight the dementors after the holidays because he needed to rest. Lucian knew by rest he meant fake illness for the full moon which was only a day away. Lucian and Hati agreed to try and track the scent again. They had to find this other animagus.
The morning of the full moon Lucian faked an illness and went to Madam Pomfrey who had a house elf apparate him to the Shrieking Shack where he would wait until nightfall. After changing Hati began to hunt the forest for the scent. It was around ten when they made a check of the pitch when Hati caught a different scent, the scent of another werewolf. The scent of a foreign wolf was then polluted with fresh human blood.
"We have to find that. This is our territory and we must defend it." Hati growled.
"Ok just be careful if we get injured we will be stuck with Poppy until they heal." Lucian warned.
"The risk is worth it. We protect this place and no one takes human life ever." Hati replied.
They followed the scent to a clearing bathed in moonlight at the center were two wolves of average size, one black one brown in the middle was an old man from Hogsmeade torn in half. Hati charged in even though he was young he was bigger than them. When they caught his scent both attacked. Claws and teeth met as one the brown caught Hati by the leg and began to pull him down while Hati caught the black and tried to rip his throat out. The black one got his arm up to block the bite before it reached his throat. The brown managed to pull Hati off balance in the fall Hati ripped the arm in his mouth to shreds causing the black to edge away. The brown jumped on Hati and started clawing at his chest. The pain was excruciating but Hati managed to swat his attacker off. Getting back to his feet Hati pounced on the brown wolf teeth around his throat and tore it out. Standing over his kill Hati looked back at the black wolf who realized he lost the advantage and fled from the fight. Wounded Hati started to make his way back to Hagrid's but he was losing a lot of blood.
"Are we going to make it?" Lucian asked shallowly.
"I have enough to get us back but hopefully Hagrid is home to get us to Poppy." Hati replied.
"I can't smell him. Can you?"
"No, I am getting a small scent of cotton candy and broom polish. Who on earth would be out this late that would smell like that?"
"Broom polish would suggest quidditch cotton candy is probably a lotion or perfume so that would be a female. Lets try and get to the pitch."
Slowly making their way to the pitch Hati's strength began to fail. As they got to the pitch Hati could no longer hold his form and started shifting back. Out of the Locker room came Katie Bell, she heard the growls change to screams of pain and saw Lucian change from a huge werewolf to the boy she had often seen around Harry. What shocked her more than him being naked or changing was the cuts and bites on his body.
"OH MY GOD! Lucian, come on let me get you to Madam Pomfrey." Katie said, rushing to hold him up.
"Katie is that you?" Lucian asked, barely conscious.
"Yes, it's me. We will talk about you being a werewolf after we get you to the hospital wing. I might even have to get us caught to get you there alive." said Katie with a worried tone.
Lucian started to lose consciousness and was becoming dead weight on Katie. Struggling to hold him up Katie did the only thing she could think of, she started screaming for help. Five minutes later to her relief Professor McGonagall and Professor Babbling came running down the stairs.
"Ms. Bell what on earth is going on what happened to Mr. Vance?" McGonagall asked hastily.
"I'm not entirely sure all I know is he's a werewolf that came out of the forest, shifted and was covered in blood and cuts." Katie explained.
"Why are you out well past curfew Ms. Bell?" Professor Babbling asked.
"I was practicing some new moves for the pitch and just getting some quiet air time without the noise of the team. I know I shouldn't have been out but honestly I'm glad I was because he wouldn't have made it back without me. Now please can we get Lucian to the hospital wing and yell at me later." said Katie, getting a little frustrated at the two teachers.
"Yes here let me Locomoto Mortis." Professor McGonagall said, waving her wand. "That will allow us to run to Madam Pomfrey. Katie I want you to follow to at least get a Calming Draught."
The three ran to the Hospital Wing where Madam Pomfrey was already waiting to treat Lucian.
"Put him here and let me get him sorted then I can tend to Ms. Bell." Poppy said quickly.
With Lucian laying on the bed Pomfrey quickly got to work sealing the wounds and force feeding him a Blood Replenishing potion. Once she stopped the bleeding and got him bandaged up she revived him.
"Ugh! Please tell me I'm not dead." said Lucian in a very hoarse voice.
"No Mr. Vance you are not dead though something definitely tried it's hardest to kill you. What happened out there tonight?" Madam Pomfrey asked.
"Hunting met two Rouge wolves. They tore apart an old man from Hogsmeade. We fought one's dead one got away. It may come back I don't but I had to get back couldn't heal on my own not a chest wound Hati got us close smelled someone and just went to them hoping they were friendly. How's Katie? I know seeing that was shocking. Wait OH GOD! Katie saw me naked." Lucian finally realized.
"Don't worry about that I'm on the quidditch team do you know how many times I see those boys. What we do need to talk about is you being a werewolf and how you changed back while the moon is still full." Katie said blushing slightly.
"That can wait. I will explain somethings for you Ms. Bell about Mr. Vance but I must also ask you to keep this quiet until he is ready for others to know his condition." Professor McGonagall said.
"Keep this quiet Professor if others knew about him they would more than likely be prejudice bastards." Katie replied.
"Correct. Now Mr. Vance needs to rest and heal let us go to my office and I will tell you what you need to know." McGonagall explained and started to leave Katie looked back at Lucian, walked up and kissed his cheek.
"For luck get better soon." She said before following McGonagall out.
