Nobody likes being the bearer of bad news. It's hard to be honest when you know how much telling the truth will hurt someone you care about.

"One of us has to do it," Ianto said, looking sadly at all that was left of the deceased.

"It should be me," Jack said firmly. "I'm the one who brought them together in the first place. This is a sad day, the end of an era."

"He had a good life."

"He did, and that's thanks to you. Your patient, healing touch helped extend his life far beyond what anyone could have expected."

"That won't be much of a consolation to the bereaved though."

"No, I don't imagine it will be. I hate this part of the job. Well, no use putting it off any longer, better get it over with. Just be ready with cuddles and cookies."

"What should we do with the remains?"

"That's really not our decision to make, is it?"

Ianto gave Jack a hug. "This wasn't your fault; it was just his time."

"I know, but that doesn't make me feel any better."

Smiling sadly, Jack went to tell Nosy its beloved teddy bear was beyond repair.
