2282. Uncooperative

Summary: Taking Jack with him to the meeting with UNIT was Ianto's first mistake.

Ianto rolled his eyes. The meeting with General Makin of UNIT had started out well enough, and some significant progress had been made in drafting an inter-agency cooperation pact, something which had initially been Ianto's idea. But then Jack had felt he should have a say in the details of the agreement, what with being in command of Torchwood Three, and from there proceedings had somehow devolved into a slanging match, with insults flying back and forth across the table.

When the meeting broke for an early lunch, a good excuse for giving everyone time to get their tempers back under control, Ianto pulled his lover aside in the hall outside the dining room. He wasn't happy.

"Everything was going so well until you opened your big mouth; now we'll be lucky if the General doesn't decide to have you arrested. I put a lot of work into my proposal and now it's all falling apart. I don't know how you do it.

Jack smirked, unconcerned. "It's a gift."

"You should return it."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Anyone would think you don't want the agreement to go through! From now on, keep quiet and let me do the talking."
