"Just out of curiosity," Ianto says, clinging to the edge of his seat with one hand, both feet braced against the floor as he works the onboard computer with his free hand. "Who taught you to drive?" He winces as they hit a pothole and he almost bites his tongue.
"No one," Jack replies cheerfully from the driver's seat, gunning the engine as they skid around a tight turn. "I taught myself!"
"Why doesn't that surprise me? Driving like this you'd have never passed a driving test. Do you even have a licence?"
"Of course I do." Jack reaches for his trouser pocket, regardless of the fact they're doing eighty along a narrow country lane.
"I don't need to see it! I was just asking."
"Suit yourself." To Ianto's relief Jack returns his hand to the steering wheel, just in time to make the next bend in the road. "What you have to understand is that I was already on earth when cars were invented. There were no driving schools back then. Everyone was self-taught. Of course, cars have changed a lot since then."
"And yet, you still drive like you're the only car on the road."
"Works for me!"
