Chapter 0 Stories of Prehistory
The Mesozoic era, or how it's more commonly known as the age of the dinosaurs. Although dinosaurs were not the only animals to have roamed the planet, pterosaurs ruled the skies and marine reptiles swam through the oceans. The dinosaurs roamed every part of the planet, on almost all the continents. They lived in different periods, those being the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous.
Looking at the Late Cretaceous, in what is now Sahara Africa, we see a lone adult male Spinosaurus fishing by the riverside. This is Spiny, he was grayish in color with some purple coloring running along his neck down to his tail, and on his sail is a mix of light bluish and purplish hues.
Spiny waited patiently by the river's edge with his mouth open for an unsuspected fish to come near his range. His patience paid off as one swam close to him and he snapped at it, catching it.
The massive theropod began to dig into his meal, tearing chunks of meat with his mouth and claws. After tearing the fish apart and leaving some meat behind, Spiny returned to fishing. The smell of the dead fish attracted a Rugops. Spiny did not seem to care that the Rugops were there because it had plenty of fish to eat from the river. The Rugops began eating some of the leftover fish. While Rugops was eating, Spiny caught another fish. This time instead of dropping the fish and eating it, Spiny decided to move away from the river and head into the forest. He looked around making sure there was no one around. He sat down and ate the fish, using both his claws and mouth to tear the flesh of the fish apart. After he was done, he moved away from the fish carcass towards the edge of the forest, but still near the river, and decided to nap.
It was a hot and dry day in East Asia, specifically modern-day Mongolia. There were endless sand dunes as far as the eye could see, except for a small oasis with green foliage, palm trees, and a large pond. At the pond, a female adult Saichania got a drink along with other dinosaurs, like Hadrosaurs and Ankylosaurs. This is Tank and she had purple coloring on top with a beige underbelly and yellowish spike-like osteoderms.
After finishing her drink, Tank went over the green foliage and munched away at the foliage. Once Tank was entirely she moved away from the oasis, towards what looked like a canyon. She hoped to be able to cool down from the blistering sun.
When she arrived, she had this unnerving feeling of being watched. Little did she know that she was indeed being watched by a pack of Velociraptors. Usually, Velociraptors wouldn't go for a full-size Saichania, but times were desperate, and they haven't had anything to eat in weeks. They hoped that their numbers would be enough to take down this Ankylosaur.
Tank continued onwards through the canyon trying to find a nice spot to rest. She heard footsteps coming from her sides, which put her on high alert. Suddenly, three Velociraptors jumped in front of her. This Saichina wasn't much of a fighter, so she ran in the other direction. Then, three more raptors jumped in the direction she was going. She was now sandwiched between two packs of raptors. Seeing no other way out, she let out a loud shriek to hopefully scare off the raptors, but that did not work. The raptors circled her trying to find a weak spot and staying clear of her clubbed tail. Tank decided to curl into a ball covering her head with her two front limbs and wildly swinging her clubbed tail. The raptors were getting impatient and two of them jumped on her back. However, their teeth and claws were unable to penetrate her armor.
Another raptor jumped toward Tank, however, this one mistimed his jumped and got hit by her clubbed tail. The Velociraptor hit the canyon wall hard causing rocks from above to fall. Then, more and more rocks fell. The raptor hitting the wall with such force had caused a rockslide. The raptors were jumping out of the way of the falling rocks.
Hearing the commotion and looking up from her curled position, Tank saw this as an opportunity to escape, since the raptors were distracted. Tank made a run for it staying clear of the falling rocks. However, the Velociraptors would not let her escape and ran after her. Despite the falling rocks the raptors were catching up to Tank, fortunately for her a giant bolder landed between her and the raptors, crushing some of them. Tank continued running until she was out of the canyon. She looked back at the canyon that was now filled up with rocks. She was thankful for that rockslide. She lay down to catch her breath near where she exited the canyon, finally being able to rest.
Rain was falling on the forests of South America, more precisely in what is now modern-day Argentina. The sounds of quick footsteps could be heard from a Hadrosaur who seemed to be running away from something. Not far behind the Hadrosaur, was a pair of two Carnotaurus chasing it down. One of the Carnotaurus was an adolescent named Ace and the other was an adult; father and son. The father was a light greyish color with horizontal yellow stripes on his sides. Ace was blue with the same yellow horizontal stripes on his sides.
The Hadrosaur continued to run through the forest until it reached a river. To the right of the Hadrosaur was a large waterfall. The Hadrosaur knew crossing a river in the rain would be a terrible idea, but it didn't have much of a choice with two Carnotaurus chasing it. Luckily for the Hadrosaur, small rocks to their left formed a small bridge. The Hadrosaur quickly and carefully made their way across the river.
The two Carnotaurus had finally reached the river and spotted the Hadrosaur attempting to cross the river. The adult stopped at the edge of the river trying to find an easier way to get to the Hadrosaur. However, the adolescent Ace ran right for the Hadrosaur. The father roared at his son to stop but he didn't listen. Seeing Ace getting closer, the Hadroasur nearly slipping on the rocks, had finally made it across the river and continued running. Ace decided to speed up, however, this would prove to be a great mistake. Ace had slipped and fallen into the river.
The current of the water was too strong because of the rain which made it too difficult for the blue Carno to swim. The blue theropod struggled to keep his head above the water, the current of the water drugging him below the water. To make the situation worst, Ace was heading straight for a waterfall. The father had to watch as his son was being swept by the water unable to do anything. Ace unable to escape reached the waterfall's edge and roared as he plummeted to the depths below. The father witnessed his son's fall into the water and let out a roar of distress. The Carnotaurus realized that his son may not have survived the fall and sadly walked away from the waterfall, having lost both his prey and his child.
After a couple of hours, the rain had stopped and the sky began to clear up. Alongside the edge of a river, there are a few small mammal-like critters poking at what look like to be the corpse of the blue Carnotaurus. The river had washed up the corpse by the shoreline of the river. However, when one of the animals got close to the nose of the dinosaur, he began to move, scaring the animals away. Ace began to cough up water as he got back up on his feet. It was a miracle that he had survived that fall, although, the trauma he had just suffered would forever be burned in his head. The adolescent dinosaur looked back at the river. He vowed to never set foot near water again. He ran into the forest to get away from the water and try to find his way back home.
The sun was setting on the horizon of North America in what is now modern Alberta, Canada. There was a herd of Hadrosaurs migrating south in search of new breeding/feeding grounds. The Herd consisted mainly of Parasaurolophus but, also a few Corthyosaurus, Lambeosaurus, and Centrosaurus. The herd was heading toward what looked like to be hilly terrain, which wasn't good because the leaders of the herd knew that it would be a great spot for a predator ambush.
There was one particular dinosaur who was worried about crossing through here. It was a female Parasaurolophus named Paris who had green coloring on her body, some beige coloring on her bottom, and hints of blue on her crest and back. She also had grass-like patterns on her sides. She was worried because this was not the first time she had crossed this path, back when she was a juvenile she had to cross through here and it wasn't a nice trip. The herd was attacked by a pack of theropod dinosaurs. Paris manage to survive the attack, but some were not so lucky, like her parent who was killed by one of the theropods while trying to protect her. She was worried that the same events might occur right now.
The path the herd of Hadrosaurs was crossing had a small river to their right side and hills to both sides. On top of those hills was a pack of Albertosaurus, who was eyeing the herd. They knew that herds of dinosaurs always crossed through here and were getting in position to ambush the herd, which will occur at nightfall.
As the sun disappeared below the horizon, darkness enveloped the land, leaving only the moon to provide any light. The Albertosaurus pack descended the hill, while the herd struggled to see through the darkness, aware of the presence of predators in the vicinity. Nevertheless, they continued onward. The Albertosaurus hid behind some boulders waiting for the perfect time to strike, and as one of the Parasaurs was in their sight it lung forward biting down on their neck. Other Albertosaurus appeared and did the same thing. Panic swept the herd, as they all began running causing even more chaos.
The Albertosaurus continued to pick off any Parasaurolophus that was weak or young. Paris was running with the panic-induced herd until they reached a section of the river that was too wide. Seeing as there were two Albertosaurus right behind them, they had no choice but to jump into the river and swim to the other side. Paris was hesitant to jump, but when she saw one of the Albertosaurus kill one of her herd members, and lock eyes with her she knew she had to jump in. She swam as fast as her legs could carry her, nearly getting her tail bitten off. When she got to the other side of the river she looked back at where the Albertosaurus was, the theropod snarled at her and went to devour their other kills. The green Parasaurolophus managed to survive the ambush. She and the other surviving members of the herd are now continuing on their journey toward their destination, with the hope that she too will safely make it there.
It was a sunny day with a few clouds in the sky in prehistoric North America, specifically in what is now the Southwest of the United States. There was a herd of Triceratops grazing in the open meadow, it was peaceful for the herd. Until the sounds of banging and bellows interrupted that peace. There was a fight in progress between two Triceratops. The first was a male with yellowish and orange coloring on his body with a rainbow-like pattern on his frill. His name was Chomp. The other had grey coloring with some yellow coloring on his frill. They were fighting over the right to mate with one of the female Triceratops. They squared off with each other, waiting for one of them to make a move. Eventually, they charge at each other locking horns.
Not far from where they were fighting, they were being watched by a large predator from the forest. This predator was a Tyrannosaurus Rex named Terry. He had red coloring on top with a yellow strip that ended right where his tail began, with a beige coloring on his underside and legs. Terry watched the two Trikes fight. He waited for one of them to lose the fight so he could easily get the kill and a meal.
Chomp and Grey's horns were locked with one another, both Ceratopsians unwilling to back down. Then, with every once of strength Chomp could muster he slammed his opponent's head into a nearby rock causing it to crack. The grey Trike tried getting back on his feet but couldn't and fell back down to the ground. Chomp stomped his foot and bellowed out in victory. His victory however was short-lived, as it was interrupted by a loud roar. It was a red Tyrannosaurus, and it rushed forward straight for the weakened Grey. Grey had no time to react as Terry bit down on his neck causing Grey to cry in pain. Grey managed to shake off the red T-Rex but, he was still staggered from the bite. Taking this as an opportunity, Terry rammed his head into the Triceratops causing him to lose his footing, and bit down on his exposed stomach crushing ribs and some vital organs and killing the grey Trike. Terry roared in victory claiming this as his kill.
Terry looked at the yellowish-orange Triceratops who won the fight with the one he just killed. Terry thought that he could maybe get another kill but, ultimately decided not to as he would risk getting a fatal injury if another Trike joined the fight. He roared at Chomp to go away. Chomp wanted to do something but, there was nothing to be done the grey Trike was already dead. So, he and the other herd members began to walk away while Terry began to dig into his meal.
However, up in the sky, there was a dot that was getting larger and larger with each passing minute. The dot was a massive asteroid heading straight with a collision course with Earth. All the dinosaurs in the area looked up at the giant space rock about to crash into the planet. The extinction of dinosaurs has now begun…
Author's comments:
Hello and thank you for taking the time to read my little story. It took me a while to write this. Some of you may be asking why I didn't start with the first episode and wrote this instead. Well, I wanted to have a prologue that looked at the lives of the six main dinosaurs before they were turned into cards. This idea was inspired by a person named HunterHQ who wrote a similar story to this going into more detail about the lives of the main six. So, go check them out. Anyways, thanks for reading, expect episode one to come out soon with changes from the original.
