Here is the Pirate101 story I promised. We're jumping right into things, so in order for this story to make sense you have to be aware of the game Pirate101. This is basically, Pirate101 squared, anything you can think of, it's happening. The main characters are two girls named Gilda and Emily. By now you've probably figured out my name. Of course it's pretty much a Jane doe kind of name so it's not like you can look me up online. We start with Gilda and the introduction of the backstories. The parent's deaths and where Gilda grew up. This isn't so long, but what's there...enjoy!
[Gilda 1st person]
When I was young, I had a twin sister. Her name was Emily. Mom and Dad were pirates, and we lived on their ship. I loved it; the feeling of sailing through the skies, knowing that nowhere was out of reach for us…it was true freedom. I wanted to be a pirate like Mom and Dad when I grew up, so that feeling would never go away.
"Em," I said to her one night before we went to sleep.
"Yeah," she responded.
"Let's be pirates one day…the both of us…together, like mommy and daddy. We'll go on adventures like they did, like they do now, like-"
"Like we will," said Emily smiling. That was our promise to each other, to spend our futures sailing the open skies together as renowned pirates.
We were not allowed to follow Mom and Dad on their adventures, but their crew liked us well enough. In our spare time, we would sword fight on the upper decks and race each other up the masts. Our parents allowed us to do that as long as we were super careful, so no swinging from ropes or anything.
Our parents told us stories of the adventures of their youth, told us about vast hordes of treasure, and that one day we would see it ourselves. I kept hoping that that day would come.
Fate decreed that wasn't to be so. I don't think it wanted my parents to find that vast horde of treasure. On the last day I ever saw them it was as if we were attacked from all sides.
I don't remember much. I remember a giant squid grabbing onto our boat threatening to crush it to pieces; most of us were lucky to escape it. We got another ship, and a replacement crew, Mom and Dad had enough money for that. Something felt off about this new crew, I just couldn't place it.
I remember being shaken awake in the dead of night. It was storming outside. The crew members didn't have time for us to wake up. The carried us under their arms and ran. We passed by two unconscious crew members right outside our door, they were from that new crew that mom and dad had hired. I asked what was going on.
"There's bad people on the ship and the armada's found us, we need to get you two out of here."
"What about Mommy and Daddy?" asked Emily.
"They'll meet up with us, we should hurry."
We made it to the life boats. Emily and I were placed into one and the Vole climbed in. Suddenly we were attacked by a shark, one of the new crew members. The rat went to hold him off and cut our line, making sure we were off the ship.
As we floated away, there was a flash of lightning and the sound of cannon fire (or was it thunder), and then suddenly the ship was going down. My mother and father were still on that ship, and I worried for their safety. I'm not sure what happened next, but the next thing I knew I had fallen off the boat.
I remember seeing Emily reach out towards me, but she was held back. She was crying out for me, and I for her. I managed to latch on to some debris from the ship so I wouldn't go under as well. The last I saw of my sister, we were floating off in different directions.
I don't know for how long I was floating through the skies, but I hung onto that debris for dear life. I started to cry, for I had lost everything in one night. Maybe it was the sound of my wailing and sobbing that attracted a ship towards my location.
I was fished up by a pack of wharf rats. They had trouble getting me to release the debris I clung to, apparently I was still in shock from the other night. They started asking me questions, such as "what was I doing out there?" or "Did I lose my ship?" and lastly, "What place did I call home?" Where could they bring me back to?
I didn't know; I lived my whole life on the boat, I didn't know where anyplace was called. I'd seen wharf rats, some were nice; but these were strangers to me. I didn't know what to say. They kept asking me where home was or otherwise they would just take me back to their home, Scrimshaw, and place me in an orphanage there.
Once the shock had worn off some, I started to talk to them more.
"I need to find Emily. We got separated."
"Who's Emily?"
"My twin sister, she looks like me."
"You're the only kid we found out there in the skies."
"What about my parents? Did you find them?"
"Scratch that, you're the only person we found."
"We have to find them! They're lost out there!"
"We're not searching the whole spiral for you, kid. You might find them one day, who knows. Do you have any other family we can bring you to in the mean time?"
I never could answer that question. I cried at night for my lost family, hoping that one day I would see them again. Over the course of the trip, I told the rats my name, Gilda. I told them my parents were pirates, and that we sailed the skies together, but one night their ship went down.
The rats ended up doing as they promised; they took me back to Scrimshaw, the island nestled inside a whale's skeleton, and placed me in an orphanage there. I took one look at the place and realized I didn't want to be there. The place smelled of moldy cheese and fish carcass, the wood on the walls had tons of Mildew, the windows were cracked, the slop looked unappetizing in cracked bowls, and the beds were moth-eaten. The place was definitely run down.
I did what any four year old would do and went to the only familiar faces I knew on that island, which was the wharf rat crew. They did not want me with them, in their own words "they were not qualified to raise a kid." They tried convincing me that the orphanage would not be so bad once I got used to it. I put my foot down and said I would never be used to it, and I refused to be adopted by some John and Jane. The rats told me that since this was Scrimshaw, I'd more likely be adopted by a Bonnie and Clyde.
They were persistent; every time I found them they would just bring me back to the orphanage. Of course I was also persistent, because every time they brought me there I would just go to go find them again. I never once ate or slept in that orphanage.
As much as they tried to evade me, I would find them at every turn.
"You rescued me," I told them. "So that means you have to take responsibility for me."
"If we knew that, we would never have fished you up."
They relented. They figured as long as I was with them, they might as well teach me things to make myself useful to them. They taught me how to be sneaky, how to be slippery, and how to make pasta. They taught me how to sneak through crowds and down alleyways, they taught me how dodge incoming attacks, and taught me how to cook vermicelli so that wasn't too chewy and wasn't too soft.
The rats taught me how to be a true criminal.
"You sure gave us heck the first few months we knew ya, ya annoying little bugger."
"I sure did," I told my crewmate, one day when I decided to tell the story during dinner.
"That story never gets old," said one of my Wharf rat buddies.
"So what's the point of this story," said another.
"The point is that I'm not one step closer to reuniting with my folks, and if I'm caught by any sort of authority then I'm done for, so thanks for ruining my life."
"You're pinning this on us! You wouldn't leave us alone!"
"I was four, you could have promised to visit, but noooo, you wanted to ditch me. Of course I was going to follow you."
"To be fair we tried telling the orphanage to put a leash on her, it didn't work."
"I left before they could even try."
"Yeah, you sure did Gilda. I believe if we even promised that you would have followed us anyway."
"That's fair"
"Now we've kind of grown attached to you, and you just want to see other sights. Who knows, maybe one day we'll take you to Skull Island."
Skull Island, that's not what I want. I don't want one world; I want to see all of them, like my parents did. By this point, I'm pretty sure they died that night, as for my sister…I don't know what became of her.
And there you have it, next we learn what happened to Emily. We also get a little retelling of the parent's deaths as Emily had someone who could give her details. Emily's life gets a little more exciting, just as a heads up. So until then, stay tuned for the next chapter.
