The Survival of Master Windu.

Master Windu felt sick as he fell through the air, struggling to muster some degree of control and calm concentration through the Force, trying valiantly to numb the pain in the stump where his arm had once been before Skywalker cut it off and being blasted with Sith lightning and trying to concentrate on slowing down and landing on the street without being turned to mush from his fall.

But it was virtually impossible because his body was shaking as his nerves had been hit by the Sith Lightning, courtesy of Darth Sidious, but the loss of his arm….

Mace Windu had experienced many painful things in his life as a Jedi, but the loss of his arm had topped that. He felt cold, nauseous, and when it had happened, Windu had struggled to stay standing before he was blasted with Sith Lightning and forced out of the window in Palpatine's office; the loss of his arm had been the worst pain he had ever experienced physically. Now he knew why the Sith used it as a punishment against their lackeys, but the experience had been topped by the blast of Sith lightning.

While Sidious had screamed at him, Windu had turned and looked at Skywalker, the traitorous ingrate he was, and saw the young man looked shaken by his betrayal.

Shaken?

Windu had never trusted Skywalker, but even he hadn't expected the boy to do something like this! When Skywalker returned to the Jedi Temple, after speaking to Palpatine, Windu had been shocked and shaken by the revelation the Chancellor, the most powerful man in the Republic, in the galaxy at large, was a Sith Lord.

Suddenly it all made sense; the way he had risen to power as a senator, the way he'd worked during the Stark Hyperspace conflict, the Yinchorri incident, and the Blockade of Naboo, and how he'd kept control and power over the years before the Clone Wars, how he had gained more and more power thanks to the emergency powers he had gained over the last few years since.

Palpatine was a Sith Lord.

Other pieces of the puzzle, pieces which hadn't been there before, snapped into place, too; the way Dooku had instantly gone after the team sent to investigate the remains of Master Diyas, who'd vanished years ago. Somehow the Sith had been responsible for the Jedi Master's death and it was a critical loose end in their plans.

As he forced himself to meditate while he tried to fight off the nausea, Windu struggled to understand what happened. Why would Skywalker join the Sith? It was strange, but as he was falling, and struggling to make sense out of everything while he tried to use the Force to slow his descent and keep him from passing out, Windu realised how many mistakes the Jedi had made. Well, the Jedi Master had to admit they had made a massive mistake in allowing Palpatine and Skywalker to interact, never mind being friends. Clearly, the Sith Lord had been interested in Skywalker, possibly from the day they met, seeing the raw power the boy possessed. Like the Jedi, the Sith had seen the potential in the 9-year-old former slave boy, only Palpatine had wormed his way into the boy's trust until Skywalker, the naive, gullible idiot he was, believed everything that came out of the politician's mouth.

But why had he succeeded?

The Jedi had trained students who were powerful, difficult like Skywalker was, for decades, but what was it that Palpatine had done to convince the boy to join him?

Windu struggled to focus on the Force, but he decided that he was wasting his time; he wasn't in the best condition to form theories; so he decided to concentrate on survival. To his relief, the time he'd spent concentrating on Skywalker - if he ever met the traitor again…. - had allowed him to muster the energy and concentration needed to not only slow his descent down but land slowly on the ground.

The moment his feet touched the ground, Master Windu staggered around, but he struggled to push through the nausea, and he stood up, tottering around. A triumph - just - of willpower. Windu closed his eyes; he was about to walk off, try to find a police droid to get to a hospital or a lift to the Jedi Temple, when he felt a tremor in the Force. It was so strong, he was almost knocked off his feet.

He felt the balance between the Light side and the Dark Side shift, and he knew what it was; a very powerful Light Side user who wasn't very light, suddenly going fully dark.

Windu knew what it meant.

Skywalker.

He'd fully turned to the Dark Side.

The Council were right, they should have thrown Anakin Skywalker away the moment they saw him. He was too powerful, too attached, too dangerous and he refused to let anything go. And now he was a Sith Lord.

The oppression of the Sith was about to return, and Skywalker was going to destroy them all.

Author's Note - I've decided to write my own version of the sequel trilogy, and there will be differences that I hope you like.
