Chapter 1
Welcome Home
"Don't be nervous sweetie. You're going to be just fine. I know it's been awhile since you've been back home, but me and you're father believe in you, and we are so proud of you." Your mother's sweet words brought a smile to your face as you stood in the bustling airport. The people around you rushed here and there, trying to reach their flights before takeoff, while others were just content watching their little ones look in awe of the planes.
"Yea, I'm just a little nervous being on my own, but I'm going to do my best. U.A. is the top school and I worked really hard to get in. I just hope that no one gives me a hard time because I'm starting a few weeks late. No one will have seen me during the entrance exams and I don't want anyone to think I just slinked by the easy way." The girls face dropped slightly at the mere thought of already having enemies in her new class
"Don't think that sweetie." You felt the warm familiar grip of your father's hands on your shoulders and he leaned down before embracing you in a tight hug. "You earned your spot at that school. If you have any problems you just tell Principal Nezu or Eraser Head or any teacher. They will have your back and if they don't I will fly down there and give them a piece of my mind. Even All Might couldn't stop me if someone was to hurt my baby girl." You giggled and your dad's childish antics, but he did make you feel better. He always seemed to be able to make you feel better.
"Thanks dad. That actually helps a lot." You returned your fathers hug with equal intensity and listened as the overhead speaker announced that your flight was boarding and you needed to leave. "Well, that's me. I'll call you guys when I land and get set up in the apartment. I love you both so much!" You gave both of your parents a spine breaking hug before rushing off to the plane that would fly you to your new future.
U.A. High
"Alright class listen up, we have a lot to do. Today will be spent mainly on our physical power, so that means no quirk using, you try it and I'll erase it. There's going to be situations where your quirk won't be able to bail you out, so you're going to have to depend on something else. Questions?" Shota Aizawa was a unique man. With a mop of messy black, hair and definitive bags under his eyes, he looked as though he could drop any second from exhaustion. And honestly, he probably could if he wanted to.
"So are we just working out all day then?" Tenya Ida, class rep and rules lawyer raised his hand quickly, his glasses glinting in the light as he begged an answer. He was a nice boy, albeit a little forward with some of his mannerisms, but nice overall.
"Sort of. Myself as well as a few other teachers will split you into groups for various training exercises. Some will be a standard fitness test to gauge where you are at, and others will be sparring to teach various defensive as well as offensive tactics. So go get your gym clothes on and meet me at the training grounds outside."
Aizawa watched as his students emerged from their seats and started heading for the door, but quickly halting them in their tracks. "Oh yeah, I almost forgot. We have a new student who will be joining the class. Her plane just landed so All Might will be here with her in an hour or so after he picks her up from the airport."
"New student? What's so special that she needs a personal escort from All Might?" Izuku Midoriya asked plainly, his eyes not deterred as his brows wrinkled slightly. Why in the world would his mentor need to escort her?
"He volunteered. Said he wanted to 'greet the new student with a smile'," Aizawa breathed out, moving some of his hair out of the way. "Go on, you'll meet her shortly." The class began to move from the room once more and Aizawa sat down at his desk momentarily to read over the chart again for his new student. "Let's see here," he mumbled out. "Chiyo Asami. Her quirk is Sirens Song? Never heard of that one before."
Unbeknownst to him, Principal Nezu had entered the room, his furry hands behind his back as he walked forward. "We believe this to be a fairly new quirk with only a hand full of people around the world possessing it."
"Principal Nezu, sorry I didn't hear you enter. How in the world do we help a girl with her quirk if we don't even know anything about it?"
"That's out job as teachers, Eraser Head. To help even if we aren't confident in ourselves. When I flew to her to do the assessment for her entrance into U.A., I was pleasantly surprised not only be her quirk but at how well she had been able to use it." Principal Nezu walked towards the window and looked down, watching the students as they trickled out to the training grounds in their gym uniforms.
"So what is it then? Her quirk?" Aizawa was genuinely interested as Nezu was right. It was his job as a teacher to help his students, so he needed as much information on them as he could get. She came on a good day; he could at least asses her physical prowess and start from there.
"It has been named Sirens Song. Chiyo has the ability to manipulate the vibrations in her vocal cords to access the part of the brain that deals with self control. In other words she can enchant a person to do her bidding, make them a puppet to her." Nezu grinned slightly when he saw the class rep lining everyone up in a line before pumping his fist in the air as he gave them, what he could only imagine, to be a pep talk about today's events.
"Any drawbacks?" Aizawa was jotting down notes on her chart as quickly as he could, trying to get as much information as he was able.
"Yes. Chiyo can only enchant someone for as long as she can carry a tune. If she takes too long a breath between notes or gets interrupted, the person snaps back. They also have to be able to hear her. Noisy environments are a problem for her."
"Hmm, interesting," Aizawa mumbled, his pencil scratching away. "That's helps a lot; at least I know where to start with her now. Thanks. I better get down there before they start killing each other." Aizawa got up from his chair and listened as Nezu spoke once more.
"All Might and I will bring her to you once she arrives, I'm very interested in seeing how she adjust to her new classmates." Nezu saw Aizawa give a nod of approval before exiting the room and heading towards his students. He quickly returned to his office and checked his cell phone to see a message from All Might himself.
From: All Might
Principal Nezu I have secured the girl and we are on our way to campus. Estimated time of arrival should be around one to two hours depending on traffic.
"Perfect!" Nezu quickly responded with a thank you and went about his daily duties as principal.
"Could he be any more obvious!"
Chiyo Asami hung her head low as she saw a swarm of people gathered around a rather large man who held up a sign bulky black writing on it.
YOUNG CHIYO ASAMI
"Of course..." Chiyo grabbed her suitcase by the handle and began rolling it towards the group of people, trying not to be blinded by the flashes of cameras that were going off every ten seconds. "Excuse me, I need through here please." She began working her way through when a busty woman stepped on her foot with her spiked stiletto, not even noticing her. "Hey watch it lady that hurt!" Chiyo seethed out, gritting her teeth as she continued to push her way. It was literally like a hoard.
"Everyone please settle down! I can't thank you all enough for the flattery but I must be on the lookout for young Chiyo!" All Might's voice boomed through the crowd and they slowly began to settle down, making it much easier to her to get to him. She finally saw a glimpse of that beaming white smile and multicolored suit and she reached a hand upwards, trying to signal to him that she was indeed there. "A-All Might! It's Chiyo! I'm here!"
All Might saw her waving hand and dropped his sign, walking forward and parting the wave of people like he was Moses. He finally reached her and bent down, grabbing her suitcase and extending a hand to her, his smile never faltering. "At last! Young Chiyo! I hope you had a good flight. It's so very nice to meet you. I am All Might, I'll be escorting you to the school and once the day is over, to your apartment."
He was so nice. Chiyo always thought that maybe it was just an act, but All Might was genuinely a kind person and for that she was grateful. It was going to be a long ride to the school if it wasn't.
"Ok everyone, take a break. Get some water and rest until the new student arrives, we will pick back up then. She should be here any time now." Aizawa released his students from their intense training and watched as a few just lay on the ground for a moment before getting up and making their way over to a long table that housed several icy waters.
Most gulped the water down like it was their last and others took their time, savoring the hydration. And then there were others that dumped it atop their head to feel relief from the heat that way.
Katsuki Bakugo happened to be one of those people. He reveled in the cool water and it traveled down his head and neck, cooling him for an instant. He gulped down the remainder of the water and caught an ice cube in his mouth, crunching loudly and one of his classmates came over to him.
"So, what quirk do you think the new girl is gonna have?" Eijiro was one of the few people that Bakugo had formed a real some-what friendship with and he didn't mind his presence. Anyone else would have immediately bugged him and he would have walked away growling, but not him, Eijiro was alright.
"Who knows, probably some rich kid who paid their way in while we all busted our ass to get here. Who cares anyway, she ain't gonna stop me from being the number one hero." Bakugo collected another ice cube in his mouth when Mr. Aizawa beckoned the class forward to him.
"Alright everyone lets welcome the new student." Bakugo looked as Principal Nezu and All Might came towards them, but he didn't see the girl everyone was so hyped about. She must have been behind All Might, anything would disappear behind him. Principal Nezu stepped forward and gave the class a smile, "Please welcome your new classmate, Chiyo Asami."
Stepping to the side, All Might revealed a sky color haired girl. Her light blue locks were pulled back into a high ponytail with a few strands coming down to frame her large icy lavender eyes. Her buttons nose scrunched up as she felt all eyes on her and she lifted her hand for a small wave, feeling slightly embarrassed at being the center of attention. She delighted when a majority of the class returned her wave with smiles and laughs but she felt as though something was off. It seemed that not everyone was thrilled about her becoming part of the class.
It was then she met his eyes. Those wine colored eyes that she was so familiar with before she had to move away, those eyes that always seemed to pick on her and bully her when she was younger, those eyes that seemed to instantly recognize her, those eyes of someone she considered friend long ago. Cocking her head to the side she furrowed her eyebrows together and mumbled out just loud enough for everyone to hear, "Kit Kat? Is that you?"
His face reddened with anger instantly and he pointed an accusing finger at her, yelling loudly for the entire class to hear. "I told you to never call me that you dumbass! How in the world that of all people to get stuck with it had to be you!" Eijiro held a hand up to his mouth to stifle a laugh and his friend's obvious embarrassment. "Did she just call you Kit Kat? I gotta hear the story behind that one!"
Chiyo felt a nerve pop on her forehead. She was not the quiet little girl anymore; she had grown into a very outspoken person and would not put up with his antics. "I've been gone for six years and this is how you welcome me home! What a total jerk move Katsuki, you could have at least given me a smile you asswipe!" Chiyos arm extended, pointing a finger back at him and watching as his fury raged on.
The class looked on at the two bickering like an old married couple without any regard of who was around them. It was almost a welcomed sight, to see someone who wasn't afraid to go toe to toe with the hothead of the class. Ochaco leaned over to Izuku and whispered, "Wow they must have had some beef when she left." She was surprised when she saw how happy Izuku was; his smile was so large that it nearly seemed to rip his cheeks. "Izuku, do you know her too?"
The green haired boy nodded quickly, "Yes! Chiyo, Kacchan and I used to always hang out together when we were children. She was my closest friend and always stood up for me as best as she could against him, he of course always backed her down, but that never stopped her from trying. I never imagined that she would get so fiery like him though. It's kind of interesting; they never really got along but always were together. Kind of like a love-hate thing."
"Oh wow that's so crazy! It really is a small world!" She cheered, happy for her friend. Ochaco was a pleasant girl, happy and go lucky; she made friends with everyone and was always a bright welcome to anyone who seemed down. "I think I'm going to like her, just look at Bakugo! He looks like he's about to blow a gasket!" She mused.
The teachers said nothing as they were so appalled at the scene before them. Chiyo seemed like such a sweet girl, where in the word did this personality come from? Aizawa put his forehead to his palm, he wasn't sure he could take another Katsuki Bakugo in his class, let alone one that would go feral once a month.
"Alright settle down both of you!" All Might's voice echoed over all the students and Chiyo huffed with her arms crossed above her chest. "I see that there is some slight tension but it is nothing that we can't get resolved! Go join your classmates and try not to kill any of them. Where was that spunk at the airport Chiyo, we really could have used that."
"You've got some high hopes there, don't you?" Chiyo mused, holding her tongue as she stared back at Katsuki with equal fever. He was not happy that she was his classmate now. They never got along as kids and they certainly weren't going to get along now. He watched as she made her way over to where Ochaco and Deku were standing. He saw the green eyed idiot get excited by her being back and Bakugo was not ready to deal with the both of them being together again. It was rough enough as children together and he pondered to himself why he even associated with the brats to begin with.
"Now that young Chiyo has arrived we can move to the next part of today's assessment. We have entered everyone's name into this jar, you will draw a name and will have a one on one spar with them, no quirks allowed. The winner is deemed when the other is unable to fight, calls the match themselves, or is pushed out of the ring by their opponent" All Might held a small jar with several slips of paper in them, all folded neatly so the scribbled names could not be seen.
All Might's voice drifted into the background as Chiyo and Izuku whispered hurriedly back and forth, trying to make up for six years of separation. "I can't believe you're in this class too, that's so exciting! But Izuku I didn't think you had a quirk? Did something change?" Chiyo asked, genuinely confused as to why he was here at all.
"It's a long story, I'll tell you after class! Oh this is Ida and Uraraka; I usually hang with them during class and lunch." Izuku motioned over to Ida to introduce her to him, but Chiyos attention was caught when she heard her name be called for her sparring partner.
"Chiyo Asami!" Mr. Aizawa motioned for her to come forward and held the glass jar to her. "Pick your opponent, please." This was the first time that Chiyo was really able to take in her homeroom teacher. He looked fairy young but she was convinced the man needed a nap, maybe even a week's vacation. Reaching her hand into the jar, she swirled the papers for a moment before grabbing one at random and opening it up.
"Of course, karma is such a bitch sometimes." Chiyo handed the paper to Mr. Aizawa and he read aloud the name of her partner for the spar.
"Chiyo Asami will be sparring with Katsuki Bakugo!"
Eijiro could feel the heat coming from Bakugo, he was so angry with life at that moment, but he couldn't help but to poke fun at him. "Wow, how about that, huh Kit Kat?"
"I will disintegrate you to a pile of ash if you call me that again!" Katsuki balled his fist up and pointed a finger at Chiyo, "I will wipe the floor with you! You just wait!" Ruby eyes stared deep into her own, and he felt the surge of anger intensify even more when she gave him a playful smirk.
"You're on, hothead. See you in the ring."
