The next night, May and the turtles stood on the roof of the museum.
"Okay, everybody clear on the plan?" Leo asked.
"Uh... No." Mikey frowned.
"No?" May raised an eyebrow at Leo.
"Nope." Raphael crossed his arms.
"N... No." Donnie added. "Leo, you didn't tell us the plan."
"Oh yeah." Leo blushed. "Okay, here's the plan. Donnie and I will go in through the vents and to the planetarium section and slowly scout. Mikey, we'll open the back door for you. You and Raph split up once you get inside. As soon as we see something suspicious, report it on your com. They might be planning a trap. May..."
"Let me guess. Lookout?" May crossed her arms.
"No. It's too dangerous to leave you on your own out here... You trail Mikey. Stay silent and never leave his side. Mikey, don't try to go anywhere May might not be able to follow."
"I'd feel better if May was with me." Raph interjected.
Leo shook his head. "Mikey's faster than you, and you're more intimidating. If things go downhill, Donnie and I are gonna need you as backup while Mikey gets May out and to safety."
Raph grumbled, but nodded. He'd rather May be by his side so he knew for a fact she was safe, but Leo was right. If they needed to retreat, Mikey could get May out faster.
Everybody got into position. Donnie and Leo snuck in through the vents as the other three waited for the back door to open. May felt a mix of fear, excitement, maybe even a little nauseous as the previously clear night sky was starting to fill with dark clouds quickly. A storm was quickly rolling in, lending to her shudders.
Once the door was open, they wasted no time. Raph hesitated for a bit before splitting up from Mikey and May. He couldn't explain why he felt the need to be near her and protect her. He felt like she needed him.
May felt the same about splitting up from Raph. She trusted Mikey enough that he wouldn't let her get hurt, but she felt safer with Raphael than any of the others.
Still, neither argued about Leo's orders. Raph found himself in a section of the museum with mammoths from the Ice Age. Mikey and May ended up in a room with a huge T. Rex skeleton. Leo and Donnie had made it to the planetarium, and just as they were about to leave the vents, they heard voices. Voices that weren't anybody on the team's.
"Are you sure they'll be here?" A bored female voice that sounded like she smoked an entire pack of cigarettes a day, asked.
"Yes, Polly. They'll be here." A rougher male voice replied. Leo leaned over a little further to try and get a glimpse of who was speaking.
There were three gang members, each one wearing a purple vest. There was one woman, Polly, who appeared forty or so with long braided purple hair and two men. One was bald and had black jeans and no shirt on under his vest. The other man had a black mohawk, spikes on his vest and on bracelets around his wrists, and studs on his black pants.
"Look, Diamond, I don't wanna be a downer, but I really don't think she's gonna play some dumb Easter egg hunt just for... what? These turtle monster things find our hide-out and get us arrested? Or they eat us? I don't think ya thought this through, man." The bald man spoke.
"Shut up, Ripper." The black mohawk guy, Diamond, snarled. He was holding another purple box with a red outlined dragon on it. "May's gonna be here. And when she gets here she'll finally be mine."
Leo clenched his teeth. This guy... he was giving off major predatory vibes. He had to be the writer of these notes, the one creeping on May. Leo motioned for Donnie to signal to the others on his com, and they retreated into the vent to await backup. Donnie had given the okay for Mikey to bring May, but stay hidden.
Mikey helped May into the vents and they met up to Leo and Donnie. Leo signalled the two to wait in the vents while he and Donnie leapt down to confront the three Purple Dragons, as Raph met up with them.
"HOLY SHIT THE TURTLE ALIEN MONSTER THINGS!" The woman, Polly, shrieked.
"Oh, calm down." Diamond growled, stepping forward. "Where's May?" He demanded of the turtles. "I'm not giving you freaks this clue, I'm giving it to her."
Leo assessed the situation. None of them held weapons, but the had loose clothes and pants with large pockets that could feasibly hide a gun or a knife. There were only three of them, and although numbers didn't usually mean much, Leo felt confident between the four of them, May would be quickly saved if any danger emerged.
"She's here." Leo assured him. "But if any of you pull a weapon, Raph'll be the last thing you see." He warned.
Diamond smirked, and turned his pockets inside out. "Ain't none of us got a weapon. Ain't that right, you two?"
Ripper and Polly also turned out their pockets. Besides a pocket knife Polly had, they were telling the truth. Leo glanced at Raph, who nodded.
"Mikey. May." Leo called.
Mikey nodded to May and let her climb onto his shell to drop down safely. She was nervous once she let go of him and her feet hit the floor, but she had to trust Leo now. She had to make the effort to trust the turtles behind her completely, that although this situation was dangerous, they would not let her get hurt. They would not let this man do anything to her.
May had never felt so small as she stood before the writer of her letters. This guy just had the vibes of a serial killer. But May was good at one thing, and that was appearing calm and threatening when she was afraid.
So she stepped closer to the man and held out her hand. "The box." She spoke in a tone of authority and brevity.
The guy smirked. "Straight to the point? You don't even have the courtesy to ask my name?"
May narrowed her eyes. "I know your name, Diamond." She remembered hearing the bald punk to Diamond's right, Ripper, talking about Diamond to another punk. "And quite honestly I don't give a fuck who you are, besides the jackass who killed my father."
Diamond chuckled. "If that's how you feel about it, here." He lazily tossed the box to May. "But this won't be the last time we meet, my dear Rose. By the end of our little game, you'll belong to me."
"Keep dreaming, sicko." May snarled back, taking purposeful steps back to get closer to the turtles, while still trying to keep up her air of confidence.
"I will. And you'll star in every one of my dreams." Diamond turned away and started to walk off. The other punks followed.
As May and the turtles started to leave as well, she could have sworn she heard Diamond add, "And that's a promise."
