CH 2.5: Repercussions

A.J.D.C (Azaka Juvenile Detention Center)

Malibu, California

It's now been a week since the incident with Jay and Ike. Questions pondered the delinquents' minds wondering what would happen next. Everyone knew a massive shift took place in the center; even the staff. It would only be a matter of time before another fight sparked up. With Jay and Ike out of the picture, more troubled kids would take this opportunity to grow their presence. However, Ike's actions inspired more of the youth. They needed a person to awaken their true calling, and Ike proved that with that battle. He showed them to be themselves and not to let anyone change them– even if you're locked up. The staff could feel the imbalance of the center among them. Seeing Jay's loss conjured up comments and questions. They needed to hurry and handle this situation before it got worse.

AZAKA OFFICE

The room was silent with the smell of nicotine in the mist. It filled the ashtray with 3 smoked cigarette butts–some slightly lit. Usually, Azaka doesn't smoke a lot, but when there were stressful and vital moments like this, he couldn't help but dive into the lung-killing product. The smoke trailed along his desk above six pictures; one flipped on its side—photos of the notorious, troublesome, devious people in the center. Without a word, Akaza grabbed another cigarette from the box. Putting it to his mouth and lighting it, his eyes remained on the pictures. Lost in his nicotinic daze, he heard a knock at the door.

As the door opened, Wells appeared with a yellow folder in her hand. "God, you're smoking again. It smells like a junkie's backyard here." She placed the folder on Azaka's desk and turned on a fan in the room's corner. Wells then sat on Azaka's desk–while he was paying no mind to that. "I know when you're smoking like this something gets you hooked. I brought the folder as you asked. What's on your mind?" Akaza took out the cigarette from his mouth and gave it to Wells. She gladly accepted it, inhaling and whaling the product.

"Cali's Devils." These were the only words that escaped the leader's mouth. Before Wells could inhale another puff, she turned her head towards Azaka. Both of them knew that word too well. "For quite some years now, the place has been running wild with this group…it's sickening." Wells remained quiet taking in another puff. "Here you can see the first five images of the most-troubled kids here," stated Azaka pointing at the images. He gazed his sight to the far right of the photos. It showed a boy with a red streak of hair and blue eyes. Akaza grabbed the folder Wells brought in; revealing Cali's Devil's background history. "Here on the far right, we have Rexon Million. Age: 15. Charges: Identity Theft, Vandalism, and Computer Crime. The brains in the center, you would say." Moving his finger to the next, it showed a girl with black hair with white tips on the end. "Selena Wizz–a.k.a Splif. Age: 16. Charges: Forgery, Embezzlement, Bribery, and Distribution on the Peace. She got the nickname "Spilf'' for being "smoky" in her work, and how fiery she is."

Wells chuckled. "A beautiful girl that entered a life of crime. A sad case indeed," she finished putting the cigarette on the ashtray. "Ike Yoders. Age: 17. Currently transferred to an isolated Boot Camp facility. Charges: Arson, Attempted Murder, and Harassment." "Another one of the wildest in Cali's Devils," Akaza thought.

Before continuing his list, Akaza sat the folder down, continuously lit another cigarette, and paused. Wells noticed and commented. "Entering the Top 3, eh? I'm surprised Yoders isn't ranked in that." Akaza exhaled the smoke. "Well… you'd be surprised what these children have done in their lives." He picked up 2 pictures of a boy and a girl: Edana Pore and Ricky Osborn. "Pore and Osborn. In here for the same charges. Saying that they're "dangerous" would be an understatement. Luckily, Osborn has shown no signs of trouble… yet." Rachel couldn't help but bat an eye. She examined the pictures on Akaza's desk. "Wait…Why is that last one flipped?" Azaka sat the images down and adjusted his glasses. Wells could feel her body tense up from the suspense. He usually would just flat-out say what he needed to, but Akaza was quiet. This feeling ate her up from the inside. "Before Osborn obtained #2 in Cali Devils, as you know, another person held that title…"

"And… that person was no other than…?" Wells said, awaiting her answer.

Akaza closed his eyes and mouthed the cigarette. " Yes. No other than #1's partner: Dax.
