Bella and Damon's travels started in Greece, they spent two months traveling all over and some of Bella's favorite spots they explored were the places she had connection's to through Apollo. They visited the Delphi ruins where Bella's family was founded and the island of Delos that was said to be the place of Apollo's birth. Some other places they visited were mt. Olympus, the Aphaia Temple, Erechtheian Temple, and when in Crete the cave of Zeus. they Meet up with Alice and Jasper on the Santorini Island and spent a week at the resort there before heading to Italy. On their way there they stopped over in Croatia and visited the Plitvice lakes and the ninety waterfalls and clear blue water.
Their first stop in Italy was the Salvatore villa which resided on the water of lake Iseo from which they could see the Island of Monte Isola. It was decided that they would explore Italy around their trips to other countries Milan was the first stop since neither Bella or Jasper wanted to fight Alice and Damon on going to see fashion week since they were in the country. For some of the shows that Alice and Damon went to Bella and Jasper slipped off to Rome for a few days and visited the coliseum and the Trevi fountain. Their next two months were spent exploring the UK, starting in London and visiting the London tower and Big Ben and expanding out to the towns of Bath, and Cornwall. They also visited the Stone Hedges and the Rock of Cashel before ending their trip at the Swansea. They spent the new year in the Salvatore villa before Bella's need for more books kicked in and Damon dragged all three to Portugal. He and Alice spent the first two weeks they were their shopping as Bella and Jasper combed the Coimbra University library, they walked away with plenty of copies of books for Bella horde using her magic they even found a few grimoire among the books the magic calling out to her. After that the spent two weeks hiking in the Sintra Mountain's stopping at any castle that Alice found interesting. The two weeks after that were spent on the rivers of Portugal and ended in a kayaking trip through the Beniagil Sea caves before a visit to the hot springs in Azores. They spent another two months exploring Spain and seeing the San Sebastian and Seville Camino de Santiago with Jasper was a fun experience and convinced Bella to major in History while in college along with her minors being in languages and the supernatural.
The last two months of their first year were spent organizing all of their new things and the villa and taking a bit of a travel break in which Damon finally filled Bella in on the fact that he was the last one to know about the Aries Blessing on their family and to tell her that after his transition into a vampire he came here to see how the blessing would affect his brother and him and their vampirism. After he searched the villa's library for any indications on what the gift or gifts were only to find a journal in ancient Greek that he hadn't been able to translate but there was a sketch in the journal of a man that could be his brother twin. As Bella sat down to start reading determined to figure out anything she could tell both sides of her family from the book, Damon walked to one of the studies he claimed as his before calling Zack to see how the renovations on the boarding house were going. This plan had been in motion since Bella voiced wanting to go to college near Mystic falls they had added a two story addition to the back of the library to house all of the books Bella could possible want as well as a basement underneath it that could be used to store all the grimoire she collected with a secret door behind one of the bookcases to hide the stairs. They also fixed up the gazebo and planted a garden between it and the house for when Bella wished to read outside. The newest improvements were to the area above the garage were two rooms for Jasper and Alice could stay and Bella's room had also been remodeled adding a slight platform to half of the room where her bed would rest and lightening all the wooden beams and painting the walls white. He would start sending most of Bella's book collection in the coming months not knowing in doing so his brother would arrive in the town shortly after all the renovations were done and never notice the improvements until after meeting his niece and friends.
Reading the book about the Aries bloodline indicated that since the incident that caused the loss of Silas and his mate the blessing was being used to power the doppelganger curse on the family so that the male doppelganger line could continue. Wanting to know what happened to the witch covens involved with the whole thing, caused Bella to take another two-month trip around Greece looking for grimoire and any clues about what happened until she found another old book that described the traveler curse. Bella decided to take a break from research for a bit before coming back to the traveler curse to see if she could find anything else. This caused Alice to drag her off to Belgium for a month in which they got to visit the Hallerbos Forest and the carpet of bluebell flowers there. The also stop in Denmark for a month to explore the island of Fyn and the Harbor of Bath where they took a swim in the jetties. On their return they grabbed Damon and Jasper and hiked the The Via degli Dei, from Bologna to Florence.
During the hike Damon revealed some of the other searches he had been doing, he admitted that when he was first turned that he had been informed by the witch in the town that his sire Katherine had been placed in a tomb in the old church ruins. What prompted his search were rumors that she wasn't in there and had faked her entombment. He had been searching to see if he could find any truth of the rumors because it implied that she was hiding from someone and it couldn't have been his brother and him, even if he wanted to rip her heart out for the last fifty years for the compulsion to love her and to fight his brother over her. This prompted Bella to ask if there was anything else he knew about her that could shed some light on her past, which brought to light his snooping through her things and finding the name Petrova. They didn't get much farther into the discussion because Bella's vision swam as she was forced to see a struggle with a seatbelt under water and a figure swimming towards her in the murky depths before seeing the room they were staying in again. Charlie called the next day and broke the news that her Aunt Miranda and her husband had died in a car accident that took them over the bridge, and that she would need to come home for the funeral. As Bella packed to leave for a short while she was informed that Alice was dragging Jasper off to Paris to go shopping and Damon was going to do some research on the Petrova name.
The month that Bella was there for the funeral and its aftermath was interesting to say the least. From the week that the Gilberts Uncle John spent making sure that Jenna had custody but did not have trustee control to the gilbert things. Too the way Elena squirreled away in her room and ignored her aunt and brother. Bella used her time there wisely and investigated the paperwork involved in the custody behind Jenna's back and found the loophole that stated John would get custody of Elena should he ever so choose but he would not get custody of Jeremy. Bella found that odd until she found old adoption paperwork filed away in the Gilbert doctor's office with Elena's name on it and John listed as the father though the mother wasn't named. Bella mentioned what she found to Jenna who confirmed she knew about the adoption but not who the father was, only that the mother was named Isobel. They both decided to keep it to themselves and see how John acted in the coming months. They had also noticed Jeremy's shift in behavior which prompted a long talk about drug use for coping with grief. He admitted to smoking weed but not wanting to touch any of the hard stuff that the other druggies in the town, mainly a girl named Vickie, kept trying to give him. This prompted Bella to take him on a trip with her to Whitmore college as she got the last of her paperwork to attend finished and showing him what their art department looked like if he kept up with his art and grades. At the end of her visit Bella pulled Jeremy into a hug and whispered that she would see him in three months and that he could video call her anytime.
When back at the villa Bella was informed that Damon had gotten in contact with a few Bulgarian witches that had grievances with the Petrova family that were more than willing to point them in the direction of the long since abandoned manor. Though they gave a warning about a weird spell that seemed to affect all those that tried to enter like vampire's rings not working and witches not being able to perform spells. Hearing that allowed Bella to decide that Damon was going to meet her grandfather and be filled in on her uniqueness along with being brought in on Alices visions and how Jasper could read his moods so well. The long explanation also included the Aries bloodline explanation pertaining to Stefan being a doppelganger and Alice being Hera blessed and Jasper being Hermes blessed from their time learning how to adjust under the fae. They took a week to plan how they were going to go about this before heading off just the two of them and choosing to call puck for assistance when they reached the manor. It took them about a week of travel by car to get to where they were going and the closer, they got the more of the past Bella saw Seeing a young girl who looked like Elena give birth to the family being slaughtered in their home by a blonde male, to the Elena look alike finding the dead family only to have to run away as another figure approached chanting. Approaching the barrier that Bella assumed was the punishment for anyone in the family that survived and the problem for anyone who tried to enter Bella and Puck used their magic to place a shield over the three of them as they explored the main manor and the three other houses on the property. The main house had been cleared of any magic objects or clues years ago as had two of the three other houses on the property the third house however was another story. Under the floorboards in the basement of the house was a chest that held two journals and two grimoires with a letter to a Nadia on top of the books that had never been opened.
They headed back to the villa without any trouble and proceeded to see if they could translate at least the first page of one journal as the other was in ancient Greek. They figured out that the journal in Greek was from one of the families that help Qetsiyah with her plan and that with some translation the second journal was an aunt of Katherina's who started this journal shortly after the girl was kicked out by her father. They then spent the last two months helping to get the plans together, finalizing the move and what they were going to do in Mystic Falls as Zack let it be known that Stefan had decided to stick around and go to high school. Jasper decided since he was on Damon's side of whatever argument the brothers would have, he was going to be going to high school just to help annoy the younger brother. This decision triggered both Alice and Bella as they watched the southern being cornered by a blonde girl who was offering to show him around, which made Alice decide to go to just to watch Jasper charm the girl and the romance that would unfold, being the only one to know that the blonde in the vision was in fact his mate she had seen all those years ago. They of course would all be staying at the boarding house and Damon told Bella that there would be a few surprises waiting for her when they got back.
