Ace had been freed and was running away as he had no reason to stay at Marineford anymore though it was then that Akainu insulted Whitebeard.
Not knowing if it was on purpose or not, Ace did not care as he would not stand for anyone insulting the man he saw as his captain and the one who took him in as one of his sons after all.
Fire being inferior to magma did not really make any sense, as that was like saying ice is inferior to snow. It was probably just the users of the fire and magma fruits in the past were conveniently set up so the Fire user was weaker than the magma user. So it was never the fruits themselves but mostly the users that.
The perfect fruit for the one using it rarely ever happened after all.
Being burned did not show off the weakness of his fruit but more his own lack of training and mastery of the fire fruit itself. He did not have and train his for a decade like Luffy after all
Ace noticed that Akainu was aiming for Luffy who was going to be able to react in time yet neither would he either. So he would do the only thing he could do that would block him with his own body. Though what happened next was unexpected as Ace felt an impact but it was not the one he thought he would be feeling at the moment.
If anything Ace knew that he was not as strong as Akainu thus using his body as a shield would probably kill him however what he felt was blood but not his own.
The amnesiac wolf mink girl that worked alongside Luffy to help free him this entire time was blocking his own attempt to be a human shield. Thus becoming one herself and was even using her own seemingly unique power to freeze things. It was an attempt to do so to the fist going through her in an attempt to freeze its owner as well. Though that would not happen as Akainu merely cut the frozen fist before it spread too far.
Although after collapsing to the ground it was revealed that rather than being a mink this entire time she was actually a zoan devil fruit user that was just somehow stuck in her hybrid form this entire time. She reverted to human form yet she had a pair of horns on her head.
She fell to her knee and then stuck to the ground with ice shattering around her along with blood shattering on the ground directly around the hole in her stomach but not spreading beyond that.
Nearly losing Ace after everything that happened left Luffy in shock while Ace was holding one of the only people he felt he had bonded with on the same level as Luffy and Sabo in his arms.
She was not dead as she coughed up blood. Though it seems she was clinging to life even now as whatever kept her trapped in her version of her hybrid form had been canceled as using all everything she had in her to just stay alive. Ace noticed that she was not even using her ability to passively recreate the hands she had lost anymore.
Ace was also in shock though snapped out of it when she kicked the frozen fist of Akainu that lying near her feet back at him blocking another attack before collapsing once again.
"Will...Protect" she said to say before Ace knocked her out himself to prevent her from making her wounds even worse than they were
Ace started to get angry as it was happening again as he was about to lose someone again. Marco then appears to prevent Akainu for harm any of them further. Jinbei appears and manages to slap some sense back into Ace who then convinces him to grab her while he grabs Luffy so that they can keep them both from dying. Luffy having reached his limit was not in any shape to continue. He came to save Ace from the girl only realizing why she looked so familiar this entire time.
"Those horns," Akainu said
"Dragon's son and Kaidou's daughter" he started repeating
Akainu tries stopping this but is later stopped himself by Whitebeard enraged by his attempts to kill Ace and nearly the doing so the one who saved him.
Though much later...
The girl awakens and looks at her 'hands' or at least what she has that pasts for them as her original hands were missing. Thus what she had were pair of ice hands that she created with her power. Morphing them to suit her needs be for combat or just everyday usage.
Ace then rushed in after hearing her yelling.
"Ace what happened to my hands" she yelled at him
"I like to know that as well as how did you manage to maintain your hybrid form for years like that. I seriously thought you were a Mink" he said
"Huh, what are you talking about what hybrid form as everyone knows I must be some kind of wolf mink I mean just look...at me*looks at her reflection in a mirror after being following Ace's finger* Who the hell is that" she declares.
"The real you as apparently you are also Kaidou's daughter it seems," he said throwing her a paper that posted on it along with Luffy being Dragon's son.
"Huh, seriously I am that guy's kid. Maybe he is the reason I lost my real hands then, the guy must have tried to kill me" she then growled before flinching
Ace then forced her back down and noticed as a huge scar on her torso. One that still seem cold to the touch as ice fell onto to the bed.
"You might be awake but you are still recovering. Seriously you might have survived after having a literally whole punched through you. It might have lost a decade off your life though" he told her
As Ivankov came by and used some of the things they had already used on Luffy twice on her once to allow her to live long enough for her own body to repair itself through the naturally insane recovery power of a zoan and her own unique ice ability

Another story idea I had and just thought I attempt to see just how far I could get with it. Not planning to write the story in a strictly linear fashion though so I am going to jump around from various points I find interesting
