Hyrule, journey of the Gerudo
Chapter 2 : The caravan of colours
While Komara had been eager to lead the walk, she soon realized that she was nothing like her sister. She would not even doubt that for Ushara, this was a steady and calm pace. However, she herself could not keep up with it without some long breath and sweat running down her back. Really, her sister was an incredible soldier. According to the letters she was regularly exchanging with her mother, Ushara was named head of her promotion after her boot camp was done. A few more years of service and she had the right to attend a special training to join the royal guard. She however put this on hold in order to travel by her sister's side. Komara felt some guilt to the idea that Ushara was putting her career aside to follow the whim of her sister.
After all, she had not been totally honest with her. She was afraid of the anger that will follow once the truth will have to come out. Komara actually didn't have an interest in finding a Voe. It was however the only way a Gerudo woman could ask to leave their native desert. She was not sure was she was actually seeking. Maybe she could be a wandering trader. It could last only for the time of that journey, until Ushara find a wonderful Voe. Maybe she would never return to the Bazaar and instead see every corner of Hyrule. All she knew was that she was trapped among the sand dunes and was glad to have put them behind her. There was also one other big secret motivation. One that would certainly leave Ushara shaken. She was surprised that their mother had not revealed that part, but still told the eldest of the imminent depart of the young one.
All things will come in time. She will pay the price of her lie then and there. For now she will be realizing her dream and enjoy every new things she would experience. With a grunt, she increased the speed of her walk to move past ahead of Ushara. The soldier turned towards her treasured sibling and asked. '' Will this caravan offer transportation? I doubt you have the same resilience as me to walk all of the land. I could always lift you up and carry you along the way.''
Komara was about to comment on her mockery until something became clear to her. Ushara does not make jokes, ever. Sarcasm is absolutely abstract to her. No doubt she planned to walk the entire continent, probably without rest. While carrying that insanely large backpack of hers. Was this woman not made her flesh just like her? Taking an exhausted breath, she answered. '' I already took care of that beforehand. I acquired a horse-drawn cart. It will be at the stable up ahead. I made arrangement with Master Devon. All should be ready by now. Hopefully we will be there soon.''
They kept making progress among the Gerudo Canyon. They would walk on the shaded side that the setting sun was carving out. It provided Komara with much needed freshness in this hot day. They kept making progress in the narrow trail among towering cliff. By pushing the walk to keep up with Ushara, they reached their destination before darkness could set in.
Komara had heard of those installation. They were many among the lands of Hyrule. They all had a distinctive feature. They all had this totem raised to an incredible height. This horse head was suppose to represent some patron god. Going by the title Malanya the Horse God. Travellers that Komara questioned all seems to have a different take on this deity. Some say that he have great anger to any that would hurt a horse. Other would tell how he was a mischievous being that would take delight in making jokes. After taking a good look at the building, Komara started to look around. The place was busy.
Ushara seemed uncertain so Komara give her a hand sign to follow and advanced. While scanning around, she spotted a familiar sight. She walked towards a pair of wagon and recognized the orange decoration catching the eyes. Excitedly, she jogged to join the back of the first box. Looking through the open cloth, she could see two very similar Hylian men either busy reading or organizing their tools. They lifted their head and Komara smiled at them. '' Sav'saaba! Hello, Lobô. Hey there Liubô... wait, that's Donbô isn't it?'' She received a nod after correcting herself.
Lobô, second older brother, tilt down his book and smiled back at the Gerudo. '' Sav'a! Glad that you made it Komara.''
''Where can I find Master Devon?'' She asked will giving a curious look around.
''Oh, guess he his still planning... Donbô, what do you think?'' He turned to his brother that kept working at the back of the wagon.
Without even turning he answered. ''Oh... Guess so. Have a look inside. He is most likely with Kobô.''
Komara start making her way and give a grateful waving to her acquaintances. While the sisters where closing in to the stable's building, Ushara asked with a tone that absolutely left no doubt of a joke. ''My, Sa'oten, I didn't knew that all Voe were looking the exact same.''
Komara uncontrollable laughter brought attention to the siblings once they got inside. Ushara scanned the room and realized that they were more than the four brothers in this world. Shy, she found an empty table, dropped her giant backpack before taking place. Her relative did the same after making eye contact with the man she was looking for. He did seem busy, but from the nod he sent her way she knew that he will be coming over once his business was done. Komara brought the staff over with a gesture and asked for something to drink. The Khaalin sisters enjoyed some voltfruit perfumed water that felt incredible after their day of travel.
Master Devon had a rugged appearance that was a witness to the countless journey he undertook. His diminutive size among Hylian was not discernible since he was giving such a strong aura. His eyes, a deep brown, were socket deep in his rough face. The top of his head was absolutely clear and shiny, but he had an impressive beard that amounted for it. His hands seemed enormous, telling how much effort he had put into his trade. However, after only a few words with the scruffy looking elder and you would understand he was the kindest soul.
Night was closing in when he started to pack his scroll and books. Master Devon rolled up the huge map he had hand-drawn over the years and the little group that formed around him dispersed. A pair of white-haired young persons, holding hands at all time, where the first to leave. Then walked by Kobô, first of the brother, that gave Komara a bow before exiting the building. Staying inside were the very noticeable pair of Goron. The rock folks certainly caught eyes among all the other humanoid visitors. Their big size, big voice and kind round face earned them the sympathy of any coming close to them. They seemed well acquainted with Master Devon and were helping picking up his tools once he was done working.
Then the veteran of travel finally made his way towards the Khaalin sisters. Komara jumped out of her seat to join him midway. He opened up his arms wide. ''Come here child!'' Komara did not hesitate to jump for a warm embrace. She lifted up the tiny man and held him closely for a long time. They exchanged loud laughter, showing that they had some long bond. ''The day has finally come. You see me very happy, desert bird.''
Komara finally put him back on the ground and walked him to her table. '' There is someone you must met. My plan have changed since our last meeting.'' Ushara had been very quiet ever since she reached the stable and it's numerous strangers. She seemed however to be stuck in total shock at the approach of this Voe and the way her kin was acting around him. After exchanging look for a very long time, the youngest realized the soldier would not react and made presentation. ''This is my eldest sister Ushara. She asked permission from the military to be here with me on this trip. She have seen Voe for the very first time, I guess it is a lot to take in on the first day. Now Ushara, this is Master Devon. He have helped many, many, Vai start their journey out of the desert. You could not hope for a better guide.''
The old man seemed to be amused by the disposition of the soldier and did not push her. After all, he had met many Gerudo and knew that all their preparation to encounter Voe amounted to little once they were out in the open world. He simply gave her a friendly bow before having his planned discussion with the young Komara. '' Now, I am sure you would like to see what your wagon do look like. It is in the back, all could be arranged in time. Even the goods you had prepared to trade along the road are in there. You also have a young horse trained by this very stable to carry you on this journey. Let's not wait, come on you two.''
They followed Master Devon out of the stable and reached where all the different vehicles were gathered. Komara could not help but stop in her track at the view of a very unusual sight. ''No way! That is Zonai Device! I can't believe it.'' She approached the structure of bronze and jade green. Shape like a dune buggy, it had large wheels with strange pattern. Some bizarre construction were attached to it, folded inside the vehicle. All of it smelled of exoticism and had Komara excitement peak.
Devon joined her and couldn't help laugh out first before informing her. '' That is the Goron's buggy. Their are well-versed in that Zonai technology thingy. You will be able to see it in action. Do yourself a favour and ask them to try the glider. Quite the wild experience.'' He then gently took her by the elbow and lead her to the very back. '' Now, this one is yours. More classical, but a real beauty."
The approached a large wagon. It's box was of a thick wood with intricate yet simple design on it's side. It was covered in a square cloth dyed in a kind tint of blue. The height of carriage was made to accommodate the size of the Gerudo. On the four corner were yellow flags that were snapping in the wind. Komara commented. ''This is a lot bigger than I anticipated. Guess I do not have to worry about Ushara having not enough space."
While he was pointing them to the back, the Master commented. '' You did offer good Rupees to prepare your travel. Not only it is wide, it comes with some good accommodations. Come see.'' He moved away the hanging cloth and showed the inside. A hammock was suspended to the roof, some boxes were stacked in the back. An L shaped counter was taking the rest of the space. '' You did mention that you wanted a space to craft while on the road. This barrel on the workbench, the one with the tube coming from the roof, can collect rain water. That cauldron next to it can be used to brew elixirs. The rest is a kitchen. That pot is Zonai, I bet that you will enjoy playing with that. Those white balls you see hanging there, same for those at the front of the cart, they are also Devices that can provide artificial lights.''
The Khaalin stood a long time looking at this wonder. Slowly, they set their backpacks inside the wagon. Ushara broke the silence and with an honest bow, offered her thanks. '' Sarqso Master Devon.''
The old man dismissed the display of gratitude by swaying his hands. ''Not the first wagon I have built. Now, of course, this won't move by itself. Let us have a look at the stable's enclosure.'' When they closed in, he pointed to one of the animal. '' See that big girl? That blue one with the white patches. She is now yours. Haven't travel yet, but was very docile at learning to pull a carriage. All she needs now is a name and you girls will be set for this journey.''
Without hesitation, Ushara called out. ''Tessoro.'' Her tone was firm.
Komara looked at her relative for some time, humming out. ''Tessoro... Tessoro... I heard that somewhere.'' She then clapped her hands in surprise. ''Ah, I remembered! That was the name of your sleep pal. That stuffed sand seal. Blue and white, yes. It was so huge! You use to sleep with it forever, even when you were about to join the military.'' She offered a cheerful smile to her sister. '' That is perfect.''
The sisters could then be heard laughing into the night. All preparation where done. Soon, they will begin the true travel. They were unaware of what was waiting for them, but their anticipation was growing ever more.
