This story starts off five years after its prelude: 'Life is never what you expect it to be'. Bella is now Caius's mate and they are both very happily bonded. Epilogue

One evening, after making love Caius coaxed Isabella into a walk in the gardens.

As they strolled through the labyrinth Isabella softly inquired "Do Edward and Alice really have to stay; I know that was something they never wanted; let alone Carlisle and Esme"

Caius deep in thought sighed "We really have no choice; I am sure of their loyalties and we will need their gifts to ensure the further existence of the Volturi. Carlisle and Esme know they are welcome to come and live close to their siblings"

"Is it worth all the sacrifice?" she cautiously asked.

Caius stopped holding Isabella next to him. Lifting her chin so that their eyes met he explained "We have just taken a very important king from the Volturi coven; without the Cullens we, and our people become easy game for other covens. Then the battles for dominance will commence between the vampires all over the world; causing chaos and possibly our exposure to the humans".

Seeing his words had struck home he smiled in an attempt to lighten their conversation as he murmured "Let us not speak of these things; we finally have one another and no one can tear us apart.

Isabella gave him a shy smile saying "I love the gardens this time of the year; the sun kisses the ground and you see that nature begins its climb from the winter solace."

"Much like our lives now that we finally have each other" Caius added

She knew they still had much to do but whatever their future; the time had finally come for them to enjoy their new found freedom and the love that had been denied they for so long.
