It's been just over two weeks since Yuto joined the Fairy Tail Guild and slowly... very slowly, honestly... was getting used to the atmosphere that animated the guild. He simply had to ignore everything around him or take on quests that took time to complete to ignore the hustle. Above all, he had become quite well known because the jobs he took ended without damage and that was unusual for Fairy Tail.
Yuto was sitting at a table and eating food cooked by Mirajane after returning from a job in a nearby town. He was thinking about the different types of work and the changes he noticed. Above all, he thought about that woman who was constantly watching him, helping him with his work. He wanted to know why she was so interested in him.
"You're not a sociable person, are you?" Makarov asked casually.
"I prefer the quiet," Yuto replied, continuing to eat.
"You should try to interact with others," Makarov strongly advised.
Wasn't he doing it? He was interacting with Makarov and Mirajane. It was not arrogance and they were certainly reliable people, but he preferred to handle things in his own way that almost certainly were not shared by others.
"Well, you should try anyway." Makarov's gaze wandered over the guild. "Even if they can't help you now, they may in the future."
Yuto turned his attention to the old master. Was he trying to read him like he was a book?
"Well, you don't have to do it right now, it will happen eventually," Makarov said.
Yuto blinked in confusion.
"Sorry master but you don't know me well enough." Yuto got up from his seat and walked over to the quest board.
Yuto felt Makarov's gaze on him, but he pretended not to notice. On the other hand, the change that Makarov hoped for was something that Yuto found hard to believe possible. He was a distrustful person by nature who would hardly trust anyone other than Mordred or Rin.
"I wonder what happened to Natsu."
"It's true. I haven't seen him today."
"Happy and Lucy are also absent today."
A rather important detail did not escape Yuto's attention. The guild was strangely calm that day, and that was because Natsu Dragneel was absent. Yuto had learned his name because he tried to challenge him, but he refused, not seeing the need.
Natsu Dragneel.
The name of the pyromaniac mage was somehow familiar to Yuto. He had heard his name before, but Yuto thought he had already heard it because of Natsu's reputation. Indeed, his name was very well known all over the Kingdom of Fiore because every job he took on ended with meaningless destruction and a big bill to pay as compensation for the damage.
Normally, Natsu was in the company of a talking blue cat who could grow up a pair of angelic wings behind his back and a blonde girl whom Yuto classified inside the "normal" category of people who are part of the guild. If Yuto's memory worked well, their names were Happy and Lucy.
"Master!" Mirajane ran down from the second floor and reached the old master. "I don't know what happened, but one of the quests on the second floor had disappeared."
Despite what Mirajane had just said, Makarov kept a relaxed attitude while sipping his drink. However, he soon spat it and turned in shock at Mirajane. "WHAT?!" he cried.
Makarov's shocked screams were so loud that silence fell on the guild as all members turned to the old man.
"What did you say? A Quest has disappeared?" Wakaba said in disbelief.
"Since it was on the second floor, it must be an S-class mission, right?" Macao asked.
"Who would be stupid enough to do such a thing?" a girl with lavender-coloured bowl hair asked indignantly.
"A cat." An arrogant voice came from the second floor, silencing the whole room. "I saw a cat with wings take one."
Yuto looked up and recognized Laxus, another S-class mage and the only grandson of Master Makarov. Needless to say, Yuto didn't like Laxus and his arrogance. He accepted the idea that he was one of the guild's strongest mages, but his arrogant attitude reminded him of Gilgamesh, although there was no comparison between the King of Heroes and Laxus. The Golden King towered over the second.
"Happy did it?!" Mirajane asked, upset by the news.
It made sense. From what he saw, Yuto was pretty sure they could do something so stupid.
"Did they undertake an S-class quest without permission?" A guy with long black hair covering the right side of his face muttered. His attire remembered that of a cowboy.
There was a girl with long green hair and magenta eyes next to him. She wore a cowgirl hat, a polka dot scarf around the neck, a simple black strapless dress with white striped edges and reddish brown cowgirl boots.
"I always thought they were idiots, but not that dumb," she commented exasperatedly.
"This is a serious violation of the rules," Laxus said while the arrogant smile on his face became wider. "If they come back, they'll be expelled... won't they, old man?"
Makarov, who was simply sitting on the counter with his arms folded, his head down and his eyes closed, reflected on the situation as Laxus continued to speak.
"But they will never return with their current skills from an S-class quest, right?" Laxus added casually.
Yuto's expressionless face soon turned into an annoyance, but it was not because Natsu and Happy had taken a job without permission. He couldn't care less. The cause was Laxus' arrogance. He seemed to enjoy the punishment that Natsu, Happy and Lucy would receive as soon as they returned.
Mirajane seemed to think the same thing. She went up again to the second floor. "Laxus, if you knew, why didn't you stop Happy?" she asked.
"All I saw was a cat running away with a piece of paper in his hand," Laxus replied, not looking at Mirajane. "I had no idea it was Happy. And I never thought Natsu would be stupid enough to take an S-Class quest."
It was a lie and everyone knew it. Everyone, except Yuto who was new, knew that Laxus always found a way to torment his companions. That was just the latest in a long series. In any case, it was regrettable that he had done nothing to stop Happy.
"It's not good." Makarov looked at Mirajane. "What is the missing quest?"
Mirajane turned away from Laxus and kept her eyes on Makarov. "Cursed Island... Galuna."
Yuto kept calm. He didn't know what kind of job it was, but he realised that it was something dangerous, judging by the panicked reactions of others.
"Laxus, bring them back!" Makarov ordered his grandson.
"Are you kidding, old man? I have work to do," Laxus recklessly refused. "Everyone in this guild is supposed to take care of ourselves, aren't we?"
"Who else has the power to bring Natsu back?" Makarov looked angrily at his grandson, a vein that was pounding on his forehead.
Yuto could have just attacked Laxus and broken his arrogance by showing how pathetic he was. However, he didn't care. Everyone was responsible for their own actions and maybe this was a good lesson for the three idiots who had bitten off more than they could chew.
However, there was a mage among them who did not think so exactly.
"Don't be so sure what you're saying, old man." Gray got up from his seat and approached the master, staring at him with unwavering determination. "I will bring them back."
Natsu, Lucy and Happy were walking the streets of the port city of Hargeon. Lucy had a nostalgic smile on her face because that's where she had met Natsu for the first time.
"This place reminds me of a lot of things," Lucy commented, "It feels like yesterday when we first met here."
Lucy joined the guild just before Yuto. It was in that fishing town that she met Natsu and Happy while following the tracks of "Salamander". Well, what happened was an unfortunate series of events that led to her being chased by militaries.
"It hasn't been long," Natsu said lazily.
"Lucy speaks like an old lady," Happy chirped happily.
Happy smiled mockingly despite Lucy's glare.
"Okay, the first thing we need to do is find a boat to take us to Galuna," Lucy reasoned, causing Natsu's dismay.
"A boat? No, let's not talk about it!" Natsu screamed, terrified. "Let's swim. No objection."
"Absolutely not," Lucy sighed exasperatedly.
They went to the harbour and began to look for someone to accompany them, but all the sailors and fishermen repelled them as soon as they heard the name of the cursed island. Some claimed that just saying the name brought bad luck.
Lucy and Happy began to lose hope as Natsu grinned maliciously while his stomach danced with happiness at the idea that he would not suffer hell during the journey.
However, the group came across a dark-skinned sailor with black hair and eyes. He had a black moustache that ran around his mouth and chin. He was wearing a blue hat, a light green cape, and a white shirt.
"I don't know why you want to go there, but no sailor with a brain will take you there. Not even pirates dare approach that place," the sailor told them.
"Then it is decided. We will swim!" Natsu shouted triumphantly.
"Aye!" Happy added cheerfully.
"IT'S IMPOSSIBLE, GOT IT?!" Lucy growled at Natsu and Happy.
"Caught you." A mischievous voice chanted behind them.
Lucy and Natsu jumped as they felt an icy hand resting on their shoulders.
"Gray!" Lucy shouted.
"What are you doing here?" Natsu asked, surprised and frustrated.
"Gramp told me to bring you back," Gray replied, annoyed.
"Have they already discovered us?!" Natsu screamed with his eyes out of his sockets and his jaw fell to the ground in shock.
Of all the stupid things Natsu and Happy could do, this was undoubtedly one of the stupidest. Gray expected nothing less from them.
"If you come back now, you might avoid being expelled," Gray said, signalling them to follow him.
"Will we be expelled?!" Lucy's face became pale.
Natsu's expression became determined and began a face-to-face confrontation with Gray. "I don't care! I'll complete this quest!" Natsu shouted with determination.
"Are you out of your mind? You don't have the skills to complete an S-Class Quest." Gray squinted at Natsu. "Also, if Erza finds out what you want to do, you're dead."
While the threat of being expelled from the guild did not weigh heavily on Natsu, Erza's threat certainly did. That thread weighed so much that Natsu, Lucy and Happy began to sweat from anxiety.
Erza wasn't just the strongest woman, she was also the most terrifying magician in the entire guild. She was the nightmare of all her companions when she was angry and no one wanted her on the wrong side.
"It doesn't matter! I'll face her! I won't come back!" Natsu screamed.
Gray put his hands on his hips and sighed exasperated. "This is a direct order from the master! I'll take you back by force if I have to!"
An icy mist began to form around Gray's hand and a second later it was covered with a mass of ice tips.
"Don't cry if I hurt you!" Gray threatened.
Natsu quickly covered his left fist with flames and continued to stare at Gray.
"Come on, icy!" Natsu challenged Gray.
Meanwhile, the sailor was surprised to see that they were mages.
The man shook his head, recovering from astonishment, and turned to them. "Excuse me, but are you ma? Are you trying to break the curse on the island?"
"Sure!" Natsu replied with a confident smile, stopping the flames.
" Well... maybe..." Lucy muttered.
"I won't let you go anywhere!" Gray replied.
The sailor stared at them with an incredulous look. After a few moments, he recovered and signalled them to board.
An amused smile spread over Natsu's face. He kicked Gray so hard he blacked out and then tied him with leather straps.
"So it's decided. Let's go now."
"What are you reading?" Erza asked.
"I wanted to understand why a simple request like Galuna's was S-class," Yuto answered, continuing to leaf through the pages of the book he had brought with him. "All I could discover was the fact that it is also called Moon Island because of its shape and the existence of some ruins."
Yuto was curious as to why a work asking to break a curse was classified so high. The best place to find such information was a library and fortunately Fairy Tail's was really well-stocked, with rather ancient volumes.
The book Yuto was reading was more of a diary that had been written by a certain Purehito. For some reason, it was hiding in the middle of other books, and Yuto only found it because his eye jumped on it.
"Our job is only to bring those idiots back," Erza reminded him harshly.
"I remember." Yuto bookmarked and closed the notebook. "But why did I have to come?"
Yuto noticed Erza's embarrassed expression.
"I am sorry," the redheaded girl replied. "I thought I grabbed the wagon with my stuff."
There was a difference between him and a cart full of clothes, food and other items.
Yuto raised an eyebrow as he asked a question. "Will you guarantee for me, won't you?"
Erza nodded. It was her fault and she had no problem admitting it.
Yuto sighed wearily. By now he had entered with both shoes so he could not turn back. The only thing he hoped for was that there would be no hitches.
"Can I ask you something?"
Erza nodded.
"Was it really necessary to threaten everyone?" Yuto observed the ship's crew.
Instead of looking for a ride like normal people would, Erza hijacked a pirate ship. At first, they were so bold, but they had become domesticated animals after Erza had beaten them.
"Honestly I was hoping to catch Natsu and the others in Hargeon, but I didn't think anyone was willing to take them to Galuna," Erza replied. "Always assuming we could find a ride, it would have taken us too long, allowing them to increase their already considerable advantage."
"Yeah. You're right," Yuto indulged.
"Rather." Erza turned to Yuto. "Your face is pale. Are you alright?"
Wrong question.
Erza was shocked when she saw Yuto sprint towards the ship's parapet and throw up in the sea.
He had never suffered from motion sickness before, but he had noticed that he had been suffering since waking up. Even the pills he had bought at the chemist didn't help him get better.
"Ugh... how much longer?" Yuto murmured.
"A little more," Erza replied.
"Oh fuck."
A/N: I wanted to make some specifics about the story.
-Almost everything is planned, including various relationships.
-There will be no filler arcs (except the episode of Changeling that connects Galuna and Phantom Lord well).
