Chapter 4: Meeting the New Senseis & Tests of Teamwork

"Stupid one-eyed sensei. Can't believe we waited 4 hours just for a 10 minute chat." Naruto grumbled in his thoughts as he headed toward his apartment. Reaching his door, he was wishing something would happen to end the day on a good note.

"Welcome home Naruto-kun!" Reached his ears as he opened the door revealing Hinata sitting on his couch with bags around her. "Hinata? What are you doing here?" Getting up from her seat, she walked over to Naruto and handed him a piece of paper. "I have 2 pieces of good news for you. First, using my share of the winnings, I bought this apartment complex. So now you are the owner of this building." Hearing this, Naruto's eyes widened in shock as he read the paper confirming what she said. "And the second news?"

"I am moving into one of the rooms," she said with a smile. "What!? How? Your dad was ok with that?" He asks in fear as she had told him about her 'family' during their time together earlier that day. "About that Naruto-kun, here's what happened…."

*Flashback*

2 Hours ago at the Hyuuga compound

"Hinata, can I talk to you in private in my office?" Hiashi asked his eldest daughter and brought her into his office. "So I heard that you confessed to Naruto?"

"How did you hear about that father?" Hinata asked in confusion.

"Well, not so much as heard but I had my money taken away due to losing the bet," Hiashi said as he started to sweat as once again Hinata emitted the heat of her wrath. "No offense, but that seems highly unlikely," Hinata said. "Anyway father, I wanted to request to move out of the compound and move into Naruto's apartment complex."

Hearing this Hiashi stood up in rage. "Absolutely not Hinata! And I will not change my mind."

"How about a bet then father? If I beat Hanabi in our spar today, you will allow me to move out. If she wins, I will give you my winnings from the bet, which by the way is 1/3 of the total winnings." Hinata told him and knew he would agree to this as she saw little ryo signs appear in his eyes.

30 Minutes later

"Alright Hinata and Hanabi, the same rules apply as always. Are you two ready?" Hiashi explained to his daughters and saw them nod. "Begin!" Within a second after starting, Hinata was standing where Hanabi once was, and said younger sister was embedded into the wall before falling to the floor completely knocked out. "I'll grab my stuff," Hinata said and walked out leaving a stunned Hiashi to just stand there gawking. It would be an hour before he finally snapped out of it.

"And that's everything," Hinata explained. "Though I'm surprised you just got home. Was your genin test that hard?" Looking at her in confusion, Naruto told her that it wasn't until tomorrow.

Next morning

"Ah, that was great Hinata. Now I know I'll pass this test." Naruto exclaimed as he finished his meal. "No problem Naruto-kun, just remember that the test is about teamwork." Hinata reminded him as she put the dishes in the sink before both her and Naruto went to the platform and headed down to the garden. "So this is where you get those lemons. He explained as all three genin just sweat dropped at that statement. "Ok, here's the test. You 3 have until noon to get one of these two bells." "What does that idiot think he's doing?" Sakura whispered to Sasuke as they watched Naruto stand in front of their sensei. "I'm hurt Sakura-chan, did you really think that I would fight a jonin by myself?" Naruto said to Sakura as she and Sasuke looked behind them to see Naruto. "Huh? But how are you here if you are out there?" Sasuke asked, looking back and forth between the two. "Shadow clones, I made about 200 of them and hid them all over the place. They should buy us some time while we make a plan to get those bells."

"Why would we team up with you? So we do all the work and you get the bells? I can do this by myself." Sasuke said in his emo voice trying to look cool. "Then you would be an idiot like Sakura-chan said about me. Look at it this way, if this was an enemy ninja and the bells represent us surviving, then one of us would be killed to have the others live. I can make clones so I can make endless sacrifices, but I'm not strong enough to take down such a strong ninja on my own." At this point Sakura and Sasuke looked shocked. "You would… For us?" Sakura said with disbelief in her voice. "Of course, we are a team now after all," He said smiling. "So are you two in?" Naruto asked and seeing them both nod he continued, "Good, so what's the plan?"

"How about all 3 of you passing?" Kakashi said above them, scaring the crap out of the genin. "None of the teams I tested before ever got past each other's differences to work together. But you 3 did, and in record time too." He told them as he smiled, or at least that's what they think because of that mask. "Now how about I treat you 3 to lunch and then we get some training in?"

Later at the hokage's office

"I see…" Hiruzen took a puff from his pipe as he listened to the disappointing reports that the jonin sensei were telling him about the newly graduated ninja academy students. "I Asuma Sarutobi, passed team 10. As a capture and interrogation team, I gave them the test to keep me immobilized for more than 10 seconds. Even though the three have completely different personalities, they managed to pull it together as a team to immobilize me for a bit." The third nodded at him in approval of him passing the team. He then turned his gaze to the youngest and only female jonin there. "I Kurenai Yuhi, passed team 8. Since my team is a tracker team, I gave them a test to find me in a certain amount of time. Each used their individual skills to track down and find me while avoiding the traps that I had set to disrupt each of their tracking abilities."

Hiruzen took one final puff before putting down his pipe. "While I would say that I am happy that at least 2 teams passed, it was also expected to happen since both teams are filled with heirs to ninja clans. I just wished that one team of civilian ninjas passed this time." Just then a puff of smoke appeared amongst the jonin only to reveal Kakashi reading his little orange book. "Right on time Kakashi." The one-eyed jonin looked to his leader while putting away his book since he could feel Kurenai trying to burn it with just her gaze. "You should learn to be on time, Kakashi. Especially if you're meeting with lord hokage." The red-eyed woman reprimanded the cyclops. "I wouldn't bother even trying Kurenai. Anyone and everyone who knows him would tell you that he would be late to his own funeral." The members in the room except Kurenai began to chuckle at the statement because it was most likely true. The raven beauty simply huffed while the silver haired ninja sweatdropped. "What kind of rumors are they all spreading about me?"

Coughing to regain everyone's attention, "Now with the jokes aside, report Kakashi." The masked jonin stood straighter and spoke, "Yes lord hokage. I Kakashi Hatake passed team 7." It seems to me that his girlfriend is having a positive impact on him." Sarutobi nodded in agreement at Kakashi's assessment. "Yes, the old Naruto simply would have charged at you head on. Hinata seems to be teaching him to be a better ninja. I hope you do the same Kakashi. I know you owe a debt to your Uchiha teammate Kakashi. But I hope you don't try to pay that through Sasuke." The old man's gaze hardened at the jonin. "He is not him. So you better not neglect your other students to make up for past mistakes. You have more than one student, so you better teach them as such. Understood?" "Yes lord hokage!" "Good." The occupants visibly relaxed as the hokage dropped his hardened gaze. He may be old but he is still the strongest ninja in the village.

With nothing else to discuss, all the jonin were dismissed. In the hallway as Kurenai was about to leave, she was stopped by a familiar voice calling out to her. "Oh Asuma. Do you need something from me?" The bearded man rubbed the back of his head while looking sheepish. "Well I was wondering if you'd like to go and celebrate our teams becoming genin. I would invite Kakashi too, but he's not really a social person." Kurenai pondered on the request for a moment before she remembered something. "I don't have much time left. I hope I'm not late." Her answer was, "I'm sorry Asuma, but I have an important event to get to this evening so I need to get going. Maybe some other time." Before he could respond she vanished in a body-flicker. "Well at least she didn't outright reject me. Maybe I still have a chance with her," he thought optimistically.

Later that night
