A/N: Reviews dropped off significantly for the last chapter. Not sure if that's because they didn't get the results back. Anyway, thanks to those that did take the time to leave a review.

As with the earlier chapters, thanks to Writesalott who checked this from a woman's perspective, and thanks to Capt LiL for the beta.

The story continues…

Sarah vs Pregnancy

Chapter 3: Family

She'd wanted to do this alone. Meeting Eleanor Woodcomb was a terrifying prospect, but she had to face her fear.

Ellie had already indicated she'd forgiven Sarah, but Sarah couldn't believe it. Chuck'd indicated that Ellie would be asking difficult questions. Maybe Ellie hadn't forgiven her and had been bluffing on the phone. Sarah had no intention of hurting the woman again, so she would be an easy target.

All the way to the airport, she kept reciting to herself, "Ellie has forgiven me."

She parked the car and headed into the airport.

As she stood in arrivals, she felt so nervous, almost as much as she had when she'd stood outside their door to face Chuck. She tried to console herself because that had gone so much better than she'd expected. She hoped this would be too.

She was pulled from her thoughts when she spotted the slim brunette waving and walking toward her, her suitcase in toe.

Ellie moved faster than Sarah had expected and suddenly she was enveloped in the doctor's arms. "Oh god, Sarah. It's so good that you're back."

She could feel Ellie's tears against her own cheek.

Ellie finally released her, leaned back and looked at her face. Sarah suddenly remembered how beautiful this teary woman was. In her rage before, she'd not really registered that fact. She wiped away Ellie's tears.

"You look strained, Sarah. This tension is getting to you."

Sarah laughed and Ellie looked confused.

Sarah pulled away, took Ellie's hand, turned and started for the car. "I'll tell you when we're in the car."

Once they were seated, Sarah grinned sheepishly. "You're very good for me, Ellie. I have been very stressed about not knowing. By the way, I don't want to tell anyone until I know, however, it seems that my guilt over what I did to you overshadows that. I don't understand why you don't hate me, and, yes, I was very tense about meeting you."

Ellie looked surprised. "Oh, Sarah. I don't blame you for what happened and certainly don't hate you. I feel guilty for what I did. Causing the crash."

Sarah looked at her in just as much surprise. "If you hadn't, I would have used you to get Chuck to give up the Intersect glasses and probably killed you!"

Ellie's hand now rested on Sarah's. "I don't think you would've done that. You were more in control than you think."

"I beat Chuck!" Sarah said, exasperated at this positivity. "Pushed him down the stairs in that house. I pointed the gun at his head, planning to shoot him!"

"But you didn't," Ellie said quietly.

"Only because I saw our names and it distracted me."

Ellie shook her head. "It did more than just distract, Sarah. It stopped you."

She had to give her that. "You're right, but that was after I took you."

After a sigh, Ellie said, "Sarah, we'll both feel guilty for what we did, but we can't let that fester. Don't let it win."

That was an interesting way of putting it. Sarah looked at her sister-in-law. "I'll try."

Ellie reached over and pulled her into a hug. A gentle one. As she pulled back, she looked down at Sarah's belly. "Nothing showing yet, so you're probably less than sixteen weeks, but on some women the bump never shows."

"Apparently. I only came off birth control at the end of November."

"Sounds about right," Ellie replied.

Sarah sat straight. "Buckle up and I'll take us home."

Ellie beamed. "That's great. You calling it home."

Sarah smiled at her. "It is a big thing for me, but I do think of it that way now."

When they reached Echo Park, Chuck met them in the courtyard. He grabbed his sister and hugged her. "Hey!" She gasped. "Bone crushing hugs are my thing!"

"I've missed you, El!" he said.

Sarah had grabbed the handle of Ellie's case and dragged it into the apartment by the time the two siblings separated. They followed her in.

Sarah could feel Ellie looking at her in the kitchen as she poured some coffee. "Thanks for putting this on, Chuck."

He walked up behind her and kissed the back of her neck. That felt nice. She turned and kissed his lips before moving around him to take Ellie's coffee to her.

Ellie was looking watery-eyed. "It's wonderful seeing you together. Really together."

Sarah nodded. "It's wonderful being together."

"I want to know more about that, and how you're getting on with the pregnancy itself."

Sarah nodded and stood still. Chuck left them to it and took Ellie's case to the second bedroom.

Ellie smiled as she looked at her. "I know you don't feel good yet, and I fully understand why, but pregnancy suits you, Sarah."

Sarah frowned. "What do you mean, Ellie?"

"You sort of glow."

Sarah chuckled. "Isn't that supposed to be the post-coital look?"

Ellie chuckled too. "I think it's a slightly different glow." Then she frowned. "As I'm going to be in the spare bedroom, I take it you're sleeping in the same bed. Are you fully back together?"

Sarah knew exactly what she meant. Very direct, this one. shook her head. "No."

"Is that because you don't feel you know him well enough?"

"My body wants to, and my mind has caught up now. Your brother is a very desirable man, Ellie. It's this doubt about the father. I need to know."

"What if it isn't Chuck?" Ellie asked softly.

"God! I don't know!" she wailed. "I'll feel unclean. Unfit to be with him like that ever again!"

Ellie put down her coffee and grasped Sarah's shoulders. "If that is the case, you need to get therapy to help you." She paused, then said, "You could have an abortion."

"I don't want that, Ellie. It's not the child's fault. I will still go through the pregnancy."

"And then?"

"It'll still be my child." Sarah huffed. "I never expected to get pregnant or have a child of my own, but I want this one."

"Chuck will support you, either way, Sarah." Ellie pointed out.

Sarah smiled, "I know he will. He's told me so, but I think I knew it anyway."

"Avoiding sex will be hard on both of you, though," the doctor in Ellie said.

"When does it start to affect the fetus?" Sarah asked, curiously.

"It doesn't unless you have complications," Ellie replied. "Devon and I had no complications at all. We had sex throughout my pregnancy."

"I did not need to hear that," Chuck said as he walked back into the room.

Sarah laughed. "Ellie was just telling me that we can have sex… when I'm ready."

His eyes locked with hers. "When you're ready, Sarah. I'm not rushing you."

She loved him so much. "I know."

"You should set up an appointment with an OB-GYN, though," Ellie said.

Sarah turned back to her. "I will once we get the paternal test back. I don't want people to know just yet."

"Have you told your mom?" Ellie asked before taking a sip of coffee.

Sarah froze. "My mom?"

Ellie nodded. "I'm sure she wouldn't tell anyone. Look how she kept Molly a secret for so long."

Sarah felt she couldn't breathe. "You know about Molly?"

Ellie's eyes widened and she looked at her brother. "You haven't told her about them?" The accusatory tone was clear.

"Er, no. I guess I haven't," he replied. He sat beside Sarah and took her hands. "Emma and Molly are safe. Ryker's gone."

Sarah was shocked. "Oh my god!" She pulled her hands from Chuck's and covered her face with them and sobbed. "I need to know how that happened."

Chuck proceeded to tell her.

"So, there's nothing stopping me from seeing her?" she asked.

He shook his head. "Nothing. Molly might be confused that you don't remember her, though."

"I do remember her!" Sarah said, dreamily. "It was that adorable baby that made me wish I had one."

Chuck smiled. "She's not a baby now. An adorable five-year old."

"Oh, she is so adorable!" Ellie said.

Sarah grabbed her phone and then remembered she only knew the burner phone number. "Do you have her home number?" she asked.

"You've got it stored on your phone. Under 'Mom.'"

She looked and headed into the bedroom. She knew she'd be tearful in this call.

"Mom?"

"Oh, Sarah! It's so good to hear your voice. How are you?"

"Mom, I didn't know you were safe!" Sarah said, feeling her emotions rising.

"We're both safe, thanks to you, Chuck and Casey." There was a pause. "I guess you've not gotten your memory back."

"How much do you know?" Sarah asked.

"Chuck told me about it all, shortly after you left him…. Are you still on your own?"

"No, Mom. I'm back with him."

Emma breathed a sigh of relief. "That's good. He's good for you, just like you are for him."

"I still can't believe you know him, Mom."

"We've seen him twice since you left," her mom said. "I worry about him. He seemed like a shell of the man he was before."

"That's all my fault for leaving, Mom!" Sarah said feeling terrible.

"You didn't answer me about your memory. Anything?"

"Small fragments," Sarah told her. "Nothing substantial."

"Oh, my poor baby," Emma said sadly.

"My feelings for Chuck came back, though," Sarah said, and felt she had to explain. "He found me on a beach and told me our story. He's a really good storyteller. He made me laugh. He made me cry tears of happiness. I don't remember ever feeling like that. At the end, he mentioned his friend thought a kiss would bring back all my memories, so I told him to kiss me." She paused remembering that. "It was a magical kiss, but not that magical."

"Not enough to make you stay, huh?"

"It made me want more. That had never happened to me before. I felt like I needed him and that terrified me. I felt out of control." She shook her head at the memory. "I felt out of control with dad, at the end. I felt out of control when I joined the CIA. On assignments, I felt in control. I hate being out of control, and certainly of my emotions, which I have always controlled. It terrified me. Add to that the kiss failing to bring my memories back emphasized that I was lost. I had to get away, to get myself back under control."

She felt exhausted. She'd never said all that out loud before.

There was a pause at the other end, then, "And are you back in control now?"

"Noooo!" Sarah wailed.

"What can I do?" Emma asked.

"There's a lot I need to tell you, Mom. I'm back with him because I missed him so much, but there's more…. I'm pregnant."

"That's great news, Sarah!"

"It may not be, Mom. I don't know if it might have happened when I was captive."

Emma gasped. "Oh god, no!"

"We've sent off DNA samples to be tested and are awaiting the results."

"You can get counseling if it's not his," her mom said. "Would you keep the child if that's the case?"

"The fetus is not to blame. I'll certainly have the baby, and I want to keep it."

"I always thought you might want Molly," Emma said. "That you'd come for her someday. I'm not getting any younger."

"How's that relevant, Mom?"

"Sarah, when I last saw you, you were wonderful with her. You obviously love that little girl. You were quite tearful when you left her with me as a baby. When you and Chuck saw her, you obviously still loved her and were so good with her. You will make a wonderful mom, and he'll make a wonderful dad. to any child, regardless of genetics."

Sarah felt a tear running down her cheek. "Thanks, Mom."

"The little one might benefit from having an older sister."

"Do you want us to have Molly?" This hadn't occurred to Sarah.

Emma sighed. "People still question why I adopted a child so late in life, but I would miss her terribly. She's my second chance at bringing up a lovely little girl. However, I do recognize the bond between you and how much you miss her. Maybe I could move closer."

Sarah started to cry. "I'd love you closer, Mom. I cried all the way from your house to the airport and on the plane back to DC, I missed her so much. You, too. Maybe you both could come and live with us. We'd need to move, though. This place wouldn't be big enough."

"You'd need to check with Chuck," Emma said emphatically. "A live-in mother-in-law is a big imposition."

"I want to see you, Mom, but Chuck's sister is in LA visiting us at the moment, so we can't come to you. Could you come and visit?"

Emma laughed. "Just try stopping me!"

"Do you know where we are?"

"Yeah. We've visited before. Do you know when you'll get the results?"

"Any day from tomorrow."

"We'll come next weekend when I'm off work. I love you, my little girl."

"I love you too, Mom. Can't wait to see you… and Molly."

"She'll be so excited! We'll be there for lunch. Keep me posted when you find out. And remember how much you mean to Chuck. He'll do anything for you and will help you through this, whatever."

"I know, Mom. He's wonderful."

After ending the call, Sarah went back to the siblings, feeling much happier.

When they retired to bed that night, Sarah told Chuck about her conversation with her mom.

"So, she's thinking we'll adopt Molly?" he asked.

"I would love to, Chuck," she admitted. "But it would be so hard on mom. However, Molly looks like she could be my daughter and people would question it less than they do mom adopting her."

"We don't want Emma to miss her?"

Sarah loved this about her husband. It felt like she'd always known that about him. Thinking about others' welfare before considering what things meant for him.

"She would if she stayed in San Diego, so she'd move close to us." She paused to let him contemplate that. Then, she said, "So, what do you think?"

He refocused on her and smiled. "I think it might be confusing for Molly. She might feel abandoned by your mom, but if we can find a way for this to keep everyone happy, I'd love it. I love that little girl and you did too. I know you don't remember her as anything more than a baby, right now, though."

He refocused on her and smiled. "I think it might be confusing for Molly. She might feel abandoned by your mom. I love that little girl and you did too. I know you don't remember her as anything more than a baby, right now, though. So, I'd love for us to adopt her, but I want this to work for everyone."

"I loved her back then, even though I didn't realize it. It hurt to walk away and leave her, and Mom too of course. I didn't think I'd ever be able to see either of them again." She thought about that time and that now she was going to be able to see them again. "Let's see how it goes next weekend, but I really like the idea of them being closer. Maybe both could move in with us… what do you think about that?"

"I love your mom, Sarah. She's wonderful. I'd love that." He thought for a few moments. "Will she get a job here in LA?" he asked.

"She wouldn't want to give up work. She'll want to keep earning."

"She wouldn't need to if she moved in with us," he said. "The company is doing well, so the extra costs of them being with us would easily be covered."

"If she and Molly are going to live with us, we'll need a bigger place," she pointed out. "And you you're thinking of expanding the workforce, so the two may be linked."

"We will. Let's talk to Emma about them moving in next weekend."

She shuffled closer, kissed and hugged him. "You are wonderful, you know that, don't you?"

"Of course I do," he said, jokingly.

She leaned back and held his gaze. "I mean it, Chuck." Just before she leaned back and gave him a loving kiss, she said, "I love you so much."

A/N: So, they've shared the news with Ellie and Emma, both of whom will support them as much as they can. Sorry the results aren't back yet. They're getting fed up with the wait, too.
