Hello welcome to my new story my forest Legend of Zelda stand-alone piece. This is an original story incorporating elements from most of the games (nothing from TotK because I haven't played that yet so no spoilers) anyways enjoy this tell me how you like it.
Chapter start.
Unknown cave in the Gerudo desert
In the gerudo desert of Hyrule 3 gerudo witches were attempting a ritual to summon a great force that would change of fate of the known world as they stood above a caldron. Chanting off to the side in the corner a man wearing off color sheikah garb and a mask leaned against the wall.
The first witch turned to the other two "sisters it's time." She said before turning to the Assassin in the corner.
"Master Kohga approach."
The assassin walked forward and bowed before the three .
"Yes my mistress's." The assassin said Boeing in reverence
"Master Kohga of the yiga you have shown us true loyalty in the time of strife. Now your to be rewarded by witnessing the rise of the chosen one to reshape hyrule.
"It will be my hornor." The yiga assassin said
"Good, after this ritual he will be weak but he will grow In time until then it is up to you to watch over our master." The witch said
Koga nodded
"Then we are set to begin and we must without delay The knife please." The witch said
The assassin drew a ritual knife from behind him and handed it to the first witch
"Thank you Kohga…goodbye." The witch said
"Goodbye my mistress." The assassin said face hidden behind the mask
The first witch stood over the caldron and began to chant in tounge before crying out "bless this child the Courage to face his task!" Before burying the dagger into her chest and pressing a button. Allowing the dagger to open and empty the blood into the caldron.
The women fell dead off to the side.
Unfazed by the death of her sisters another witch steped up and preformed the same ritual this time ending with "bless this child with the wisdom to lead his people!" Before she followed suit.
Finally the last witch walked up to the caldron and screamed out her chant "bless this child the power he needs to complete his destiny!"
She drove the dagger into her chest and stumbled back emptying the blood into the caldron.
Before she pitched forward falling into the caldron with a mighty splash spraying the contents everywhere. Making the yiga cover his eyes. And looking away
When he looked back the caldron was shattered, the last witch was no where to be found.
And in the middle was a gerudo kid.
A male Gerudo child.
Koga walked forward and picked up the child. Before raising it above his head..
"My mistresses your efforts were not in vain.. Gannondorf lives!"
…25 years later…Training field of hyrule castle.
The clacking of swords could be heard echoing across the field as Soldiers trained in arms and armor as defenders of the realm.
Senior soldiers watched the edge of the grounds watching prepared to step in incase someone got hurt or went too far in todays training.
Nobles and guards walked the stone walkways of the castle's premises. Talking to themselves and there firends as a lone man strode down the hall. As he passed them they all stared in Awe as a man in heavy plate armor with a pure white talbard and a red Hyrulian crest on it while he held a his helmet in his arms as he walked everyone stepped aside for him. On his back a blue sword with a wing crossguard with gold accents on the sheath and a blue shield with the hylian crest on it.
He had Red hair with the front of it folded to a point like a Mohawk and had more coming down around the front of his ears he had big broad shoulders and stood tall over everyone his face was stoic.
The man stood on the balcony overlooking the training area and saw a group of four soldiers sparing
As he looked on with interest. As the fifth went on
"Sir Groose!" A voice called off to his left as the knight looked over to see a women dressed in a similar outfit as him with a matching sword and shield walk over to him. She had a pudgy face and a bright smile with short red hair
"Sir Krane, how is your day?" The knight now introduced as Groose asked
"Very good captain. The men are eager for training today. How are you?" Krane asked
"Watching the new recruits for new volunteers." Groose said
"Sir." Krane sighed
"What." Groose hissed looking upset like he knew what she was going to be said.
"Sir you know you won't find anyone here, you admitted it yourself the knights are a dying breed. Let it go, Hyrule has gotten past us." The knight said putting an arm over his shoulder.
"Not until the darkness is defeated." Groose said looking back out onto the field
"Sir." Krane sighed
"Until you can kill that beast that lurks in the cellar our job is not finished! Evil is out there and it's our job to protect the kingdom!" Groose said
"But sir." Krane asked
"AM I UNDERSTOOD KNIGHT?!" Groose roared
Krane paused before nodding "yes sir."
"Good." Groose said before he looked back towards the field.
He sighed "My apologies Sir Krane I should not have yelled."
"It's ok captain you're stressed we all can see it." Sir Krane said
"May I watch with you?" She asked
"Sure, we don't have the training field until after them." Sir Groose said
As Krane sat with the captain Groose looked over the training field and focused on 4 men sparing not two on two but more of three on one.
Groose narrowed his eyes in interest as the fight began when he arrived and the lone soldier seemed to be holding his own quiet well.
'Perhaps there is hope for the knights after all…' Groose thought before he saw the next attack.
Princess's chambers
In her room the crown Princess, opened her eyes laying in her soft sheets wearing her nightgown, in her room Zelda stretched as she woke up for the day.
She hears the sound of clanking swords outside her window and looks over to see Impa her sheikah bodyguard watching the window.
"Morning Impa.
"Morning Zelda." Impa said
Impa was a fit women around the age of 27 as a Sheikah she was meant to serve as vassal to the royal family as tutor, guard, and advisor for the crown Princess, to prepare the young women for her duties as royal heir. Wearing standard Shiekah garb she had the lower half of her face covered at all times unless in the presence of other clansmen.
Zelda was a Headstrong, determined, Princess of Hyrule being of 17 she was already slotted in to be the next heir to the throne when her father king Daphness of hyrule dies. She has long flowing bright blond hair although from her side table a wood stain bottle could be seen indicating that she might have a perchance of sneaking out.
Zelda nodded sitting up "anything interesting?"
"One or two…" Impa said sitting on the window sill.
Zelda approached the window and looked down at the field. Her eyes scoured the soldiers.
Her eyes landed on 4 of them away from the rest of the recruits 3 of them ganging up on the last one.
"Impa what is that?"
"Looks like your soon to be personal bodyguard is trying to act tough infront of someone." Impa said not mincing words.
Zelda felt anger toward her "bodyguard" as if he thinks he could use this power like that.
"What-that!? Oh for! we have to stop him!" Zelda said before stomping out the door, Impa hot on her heels although for another reason a hint of fear evident in her eyes.
In the field the 4 soldiers stood around sparing gathering there breath after a brief encounter
The lead soldier flanks by two smaller ones stood there proudly hands on his hips holding his helmet. He had black bushy hair and brown eyes and a pudgy nose. All three of there armors were spotless and shiny not a single dent on them
His opponent was hidden behind a fully covered helmet but the soldier stood firm.
"Give it up Link there's no way you can beat us! You might be a prodigy in combat but even you have to admit numbers can get you."
Link wore training armor more of a rusted Chestplate and Greeves than armor. Natural had gotten the best of them to the point where several hole's could be seen where the armor doesn't protect the man's skin. Being an orphan Link wasn't privy to a lot of wealth thus he had to be given hand-me-downs to be a soldier, everyone knew he had inadequate gear but still he was top of his class in terms of combat and near peer of the top in terms of strategy and battlefield awareness. Despite his young age of 17 when most recruits are 19-25 Making everyone wonder if he did have the right equipment.
It was even a nudge from the other students that Link himself has never lost a match. To the point that rumors are the Instructors refuse to spar against him.
But apparently his opponent didn't get the memo as he began to belittle Link anyways.
"I'm your senior! I have better skills I'm better trained. I'm to become the princess's personal bodyguard as soon as I graduate."
Across the way Link stood steadfast holding his rusty shield and broadsword. Face determined
"Fine looks like we'll have to beat it out of you. attack!" The man roared
Suddenly the two soldiers on his side rushed at Link. Pikes in hand.
At a roar they thrusted their weapons only to have the two metal heads clang off each other
The troops gasped as Link appeared between the shafts inside there guard
The soldiers dropped there pikes and fumbled for there swords.
Too slow as Link struck them with the flat of his blade. Knocking them down.
The man from before growled "damn brat." He said as he put his helmet on and drew his sword, the two began to circle each other.
Links eyes were anchored on his opponent's as he drew his sword back
At the time the two of them lunged.
They struck each others shields at the same time before stepping back and charging again this time Link's opponent tried to attack him from above but Link just sidestepped and changed forward planting his knee into his opponent's chin sending him backward
Link wanted to believe it to be over but he knew he didn't hit his opponent hard enough for that.
Link turned around just in time to avoid a pike from his opponent.
His opponent drew his weapon back with a smirk before lunging again
This time Link swiped his shield into a wide bash sending the weapon down to the ground
As his opponent tried to clamber to get it Link stepped on the shaft snapping the head of the weapon off as he approached his opponent and presented his weapon to his neck.
"It is over Orerick give it-!"
From his sixth sense of combat Link felt an attack from behind as he looked over his shoulder to see one of the soldiers in Orerick possy trying to get a back attack on him.
Link however back flipped over the attack with ease making the pike smash head first into Orerick Chestplate crumpling the metal and sending the guy on his ass. Link landed and with a quick spin around struck the attacker on the side of the head with his Leather boot hard making the soldier fall like a ton of bricks. Now Orerick was defeated.
Link sighed as he pulled off his rusted helm.
Orerick clambered to his feet his chestplate caved in from the blow but he was alive.
"Damn you runt. This isn't over not yet not until-."
"What is this?!" A voice screamed from above.
Everyone turns around to see The crown Princess Zelda standing at the top of the stairs, her bodyguard Impa not far behind her. Still in her nightgown from the night before everyone froze as Zelda decended the stairs
Zelda stomped forward "well I demand an explanation!" She said entering the field.
"Princess we were just training him to be better in combat!"
"Trooper Orerick do you believe me blind I know for a fact that is not what was going on facing a single person down 3 on 1 is not training doctrine, you were trying to impose your will upon him!" Zelda screamed
"Princess I-!"
"DON'T LIE TO ME!" Zelda roared
"Princess.." Impa approached from behind her but Zelda wasn't done.
"I can't believe you for you to think you are better than him to be so disrespectful, you are scum!" Zelda hissed
"Princess." Impa said
Link grit his teeth as he felt a numbness enter his sword hand which he covered with his other hand.
He looked back at the argument and saw that the princess was Radiating a golden light from here as the audience watching her tirade was stunned.
"And to believe I once thought you worthy of my Royal guard you disgust me!" Zelda snarled
"Zelda!" Impa yelled
Zelda snapped out of her rant knowing Impa would only call her Zelda infront of others if it was important. And looked around to see the stunned faces of the crowd looking back at her before she noticed the golden light she panicked as she looks from the crowd before coming to her senses holding her hand shaking like a leaf "I'm sorry." She said frightenfully Before running away. Back up the stairs
"Princess!" Impa. Called after her. As Zelda ran up the stairs and slammed the door.
Orerick scoffed as Zelda fled, more irritated that he got yelled at that anything as he walked away.
Impa sighed "Captain dismiss the men." She said
The trooper captain nodded "right away madam." He said before addressing the crowd.
"Alright troops your time is your own we will reconvene inside the castle for..."
Link allowed the voice of the captain to fade as he dropped his helmet and shook his head letting his blond hair fall to his shoulders he picked up his gear and walked over to his fallen "sparring buddies" to help them up however as they got close they slapped his hand away.
"Better watch yourself." They said before stomping off after Orerick.
Link sighed as he sheathed his sword on his hip and the shield on his back he heard several Soldiers talking about getting food and Link decided to head to the barracks as well.
On the balcony Sir Groose smiled "huh looks like there is hope." He said
"Sir?" Krane asked
"Head to the field Sir Krane, I need to talk to the King." He said
Sir Krane looked at the captain for a moment before nodding "Yes sir."
While that was happening Impa scowled the castle looking for princess Zelda with any hope of calming her down.
Finally she found her hiding out in one of the hidden courtyard bawling holding her legs. As she sat on one of the stone benches nearby her favorite flowers a bunch of Silent princess's that grew there naturally.
"Why?! Why can't I control these powers!" She sobbed
"Princess are you okay?!" Impa asks
Zelda snapped a look up to her advisor "am I okay why are you asking me about that? did I hurt anyone?! Did someone get hurt?!" Zelda cried dragging herself more and more into hysteria
Impa ran up to her and hugged her tightly
"No one was hurt it was just a light show, a few beams of light dancing around that's all." Impa said trying to calm the women down
She took a gasp tears running down her face. "But it could have been so much worse!" She said
"But it wasn't, it wasn't, no one was hurt, no injuries, nothing."
"I don't know why I can't control these powers. I'm too dangerous. Someone should just run me through now. I'm too much of a threat to the kingdom." Zelda moaned
"No!" Impa said loudly starling Zelda from her depression.
"No more talk of that. You are a bright, smart, intelligent powerful women, who knows no limits. You will conquer this hiccup and you will become unstoppable." Impa said looking deep into Zelda's eyes
"Am I clear?" She asked
Zelda nodded
Impa sighed relaxing as the princess calmed down slightly.
"Let me see your hand." Impa said
Zelda held out her left hand as Impa slowly took off her glove to reveal a bright glowing Triforce symbol.
"It's brighter than before." Impa commented
This was the wrong thing to say as Zelda had another fit.
"It's getting worse!" She cried as Impa went to reassure her.
"It's gonna be ok it's gonna be okay." She said
Zelda held onto Impa as long as it took for her to calm down.
30 minutes later zelda let out her last sniffle
Impa stood up "we should head back inside." She said
Zelda nodded as Impa headed toward the door
"Impa…I'm sorry for acting like a child back there. I'm 17, I should be able to handle this better." Zelda said
"It's not your fault, Zelda we will get better at this." Impa said
Zelda nodded as the two went back inside.
In the throne room Sir Groose knelt before the king
"And you're sure?" King Daphness said
"Yes sir I have a feeling he's gonna be the one."
The king thought for a moment.
"Very well you have one week to assess him if he passes your inspection then I will have a go at him."
Groose looked up shocked "Sir?"
"You never come to me with a request like this and I trust your judgment. If he is the one as you say, then he may very well be pivotal to futures events."
"Sir, it's just a hunch." Groose said
"And it was just a hunch that I named my daughter Zelda. And based on that hunch my daughter has developed powers of the divine that terrify her." The King said
"You think that something more is going on?" Sir Groose asked
"I dare not speculate. I just hope that my daughter will have a bright future." The King said.
Groose nodded "if I may take my leave your highness."
"Granted." The king said as Groose left the throne room.
In the barracks Link sat alone at a table eating his breakfast while everyone else had one or two friends to sit and talk with he had no one thus was the life of an orphan. He was lucky to be given this chance and not end up as a street begger of castle town.
And so despite not having any friends he was grateful.
Link took another bite of his omelet when he heard a ruckus from behind him, Link turned around to see what everyone's attention was on when Link saw him.
A knight of the castle standing by the doorway of the mess hall scanning the area.
Link's mind ran at a million miles per hour 'why is he here?' What is he looking for?' 'Is someone in trouble?'
The knight scanned the room then his eyes fell upon Link and with a confident stride he headed toward him.
Link blinked as the knight stood before him still almost as if a robot for a good moment
"May I sit here?" The knight asked calmly
Link nodded and gestured to the seat.
"Thank you." The knight said as he put down his stuff and sat across Link.
The two enjoyed a quiet moment together as the rest of the mess hall slowly went back to their own conversations.
"You were mighty impressive out there this morning." The knight said
Link nodded not sure what to think about the compliment "thanks." He said
"It's well earned." The knight said before he looked at Link's apple "may I?"
Link nodded "sure go ahead." He said
The knight nodded "thanks." As he took off his helmet to reveal his bright red hair sticking up which bounced as if it was made of gelatin
The knight took a bite of the apple. "I'm sorry I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Groose." He said
Link smiled "Link." He said as he finished up his eggs.
"Tell me Link, where did you learn to fight like that?" Groose asked
Link looked confused "um here." He said
Groose shook his head "no they tell you how to survive the battlefield as a soldier, but what you proved was proficiency in combat the likes of which I've never seen."
"But your a knight." Link said
Groose nodded "I am but not even I believe I could take on three soldiers at once and come out unscathed."
Link blinked for a second "what do you want?"
Groose smiled "To get to know you? Why am I bothering you?" Groose asked
"No it's just very few people often have the time to talk to someone like me. Much less the knight captain." Link said
Groose smirked his head "so you figured that out already huh?"
Link shrugged "it wasn't too hard." He said
Groose laughed "I like you kid. Listen your right, I'll let you in on a little secret. If you play your cards right you may find yourself joining our ranks." He said
Link was stunned "me a knight?" He asked
"What about it?" Groose asked knowing he got Link's attention
"Well…I'm dirt poor I don't have any armor of my own I have to wear broken pieces that I've scrambled together or was lent."
"Money has nothing to do with it. It's about your conviction. Your loyalty, and your honor." Groose said
Link nodded
"So interested?" Groose asked
"I'd love to it's been a dream of mine…to be a knight." Link said looking at the sword and shield the knight used.
"Yeah they are beautiful aren't they." Groose said before he turned back to Link.
"Listen in one week The king is going to come down to the training field for a test. If you pass you will be accepted into our order."
Link nodded "what do I have to do?"
"Defeat the king in single combat." Groose said seriously
Link nodded "ok."
"Good for the rest of the week you will be excused from your classes and training drills I want you to train and drill for the week get ready for the fight of your life."
Link nodded as he noticed that everyone was leaving Link stood up
Groose grabbed his hand
"Link." He said
Link turned around and looked at Groose
"I have one last request for you. On the day of the fight, don't hold back against the king. Not like you did this morning."
Link blinked as Groose' stand slipped through his fingers
Link nodded and left the room while the rest of the soldiers went right to the classroom Link went left to the field. Groose smiled and leaned back.
"Good luck, Link you will need it." Groose said as he looked at the hand that held Links for a moment before Groose stood up and headed toward the knights quarters.
