Chapter 6 – Mildred's Ancestors

Mildred had managed to get Ethel out of her room, and they had gone for a walk in the woods to help calm her.

"Good old fresh air" Mildred sang as she flung some leaves in the air and danced as they came back down, it was the start of Autumn.

Ethel could only laugh at Mildred's silly antics.

"Mildred Hubble" Miss Hardbroom's voice could be heard, and it sounded panicked.

She materialised in front of the girls, and she was definitely panicking. "Your family tree where is it?"

Both girls just stood there not sure what was going on.

"My family tree? Why would you want my family tree? I am not even that interesting" Mildred queried, she really didn't understand why anyone would want her family tree.

"I haven't got time for questions, where. Is. It? Miss Hardbroom hadn't meant to sound nasty at all.

"It's behind the west wing" She stated.

Miss Hardbroom transferred the girls, there. She took in 3 trees, one was quite clearly Ethels and very large, the one to the left of Ethel's was Maud's. She could see Maud's parents on there. Then there was a slightly tall, yet skinny tree on the right of Ethel's, this was definitely Mildred's, Julie's bubble was on there.

"Mildred, press your hands flat against the tree" she breathed. If this doesn't give me any answers nothing will. She watcher her student press her hands on the trees and as flat as she could get them.

"Why exactly am I standing like an Idiot practically hugging a tree?" Mildred really thought her teacher had lost her marble's. She watched as Miss Hardbroom transferred Miss Cackle to them and recited an old incantation.

Leaves of ye olde tree,

Generations of those that lived before,

Listen to my plea and show me what's hidden,

Show me my family tree,

How many Hubble's came before me?

Show me, Who is here with me?

To Everyone's amazement the tree grew wider and taller.

"I'm surprised that worked" Ada was shocked.

"I am glad to have found you have so much faith in me" Hecate smirked at her with sarcasm.

"Wow, That's my family?" Mildred was amazed.

"Don't be too happy about it, we have a serious problem because of it" Miss Hardbroom whispered.

"Millie, look the twelve that hadn't been born with magic. Now that's cool" Ethel told Mildred.

"Right then, how would you like to get out of classes today, you two?" Miss Cackle questioned the girls.

"That depends, is it going to be more fun than having Miss Pentangle teach us?" Mildred asked.

"Miss Cackle wanted to know if you wanted to help us search for a certain ancestor of yours, going quite far back" Miss Hardbroom stated.

"That sounds fun Millie" Ethel said and started walking around Mildred's now large tree. "What does this person look like?" Miss Hardbroom showed the girls the Poltergeists face on the maglet.

"Similar to this" she told the girls.

The girls had a lot of fun searching Mildred's family tree whilst climbing through it. The teachers where on brooms near the top.

"Strange to see them getting along isn't it, its great to see don't get me wrong" Ada mused.

"I'm just pleased they are getting along, lets hope it stays that way" Hecate stated, she looked down "any look girls?". She saw them both shake their heads. "Quite the family the Hubble's aren't they".

"They sure seem to be, there is some very important historical figures in here, ooh Vincent van Gogh's up here born without magic though yet the talent for painting. Can see where Mildred gets her artistic skills from.

"I think I may have found her" Mildred shouted up to the teachers, who flew down and took a look.

"That's her, Mildred tap the bubble" Miss Hardbroom ordered.

Mildred did and a girl who you could see from head to toe came up with writing underneath.

"Why is she covered in blood?" Mildred asked.

"That is what we are here to find out" Miss Hardbroom said "Nansi Lillian Hubble, born 1623, died 1638, Age 15. That makes no sense if she died at fifteen then you were never born". She stated to Mildred.

"There is definitely a story here" Miss Cackle said with a hint of interest.

"Why were you looking for Nansi?" Mildred asked.

"There is no point lying to her" Miss Hardbroom said to Miss Cackle who nodded "Nansi's spirit when she died has hung around, she was clearly killed in the school and has unfinished business".

"How do you know" Ethel asked

"She is in the school playing games" Miss Cackle replied. "She has only appeared over the last couple of days" she looked at the girls "lets see if we can find out why she is here now".
