"Why do I feel like this is getting weirder and weirder by the minute?"
Steve sighed as he inserted the key back into the ignition, then reached for the gear shaft to start moving, hopefully allowing them to arrive at the private investigator's place in decent time despite the rush hour traffic clogging up the main arteries.
"If Jameson said the truth, it sure is.", Mike mused and held onto his fedora as Steve made a sharp right turn out of the parking area, reducing his reaction to a warning glare.
"What? You don't believe him?"
"Jameson? With that arrest record? He's learned how to play the game better than most. I don't trust him as far as I can throw him. But I want to check out that lead first."
"You think Willis is the one who's been making these phone calls? If he's a PI, the real Warren Thompson could have still set him up for it. That would explain why it's been so hard to track this whole thing down."
Mike didn't look over.
Instead, his eyes were fixated to the north where somewhere along the 1800 Block of Howard Street they were supposed to find the P.I.'s office, featuring a bright yellow sign out front to aid in their search.
"I just don't know, buddy boy.", the lieutenant replied deep in thought, "Somehow I think there's going to be a lot more twists and turns before we close the book on this whole case."
