Chapter 32: The Start of Something New
"Both of you are out of your mind," said Mittelt shaking her head in disapproval, "I wonder if Tannin has gotten any stronger after becoming a devil," whispered Rin to herself.
Azazel just shrugged, "If he has, I doubted you would be able to tell the difference," knowing the gap between their power is like comparing an ant to an elephant.
"I think it's a good way to get a grasp on their strength," said Anos sitting on the couch in the ORC sipping tea while Mittelt sat on the opposite side.
Azazel was sitting at the desk while, Rin stood behind Anos, "the first of them have arrived," said Rin letting them know some of the ORC members have started arriving.
"If Asia gets hurt...I'll murder you," said Mittelt glaring at Anos, "such harsh words for your master," laughed Azazel, "he isn't my master," "Oh would you like me to make you call me master."
Said Anos giving Mittelt a mischievous smirk, "what," said Mittelt jumping, but Anos returned back his tea.
The doors suddenly open revealing Rias and Akeno who look at everyone in surprise, "uhhh hello," waves Rias with a raised eyebrow.
She looks at Anos then toward Azazel, "Uhh that's my seat," Azazel leans back, "You must sit here a lot because your butt impression is making the seat uncomfortable."
She sighs and looks at Anos, "And you're here because," "I can't just drop by to see you," Rias narrows her eyes in suspicion, "if you keep looking like that you will leave marks on your face."
"That is so rude," she says rubbing her forehead, "Anos please don't tease Rias like that you might cause more marks to form on her face," chuckles Akeno, Rias snaps her head at Akeno, "hey, you too?"
"Hey President what are you doing," said Issei walking from behind them with Kiba, Asia, and Gasper being chased by Koneko.
Issei peeks from behind Rias and Anos winks at him, "Master," "Hey there Issei," "Hello Lord Anos," said Asia giving him a smile and a wave.
Kiba gives him a nod and Anos nods back at him acknowledging him, Xenovia and Irina arrive last, "what's with the crowd at the entrance," asked Irina.
Issei turned around waving at her, "oh Master and Azazel are here but why are you here," responded Issei, Irina waved back, "Lord Michael sent me here saying it was important but didn't go into detail," "I ran into Irina as I was walking in."
"Didn't think there would be a line like to get into the ORC," said Sona with Tsubaki walking up behind her, "it is a very rare sight isn't it president."
"Good it seems everyone has arrived, all of you get in here I have something to say," said Azazel, at his words, the group funneled in through the double door.
Once everyone was inside Azazel spoke, "Starting today I have become the advisor for the ORC, and Anos here has volunteered to be my assistant advisor."
Anos abruptly stopped sipping his tea and looked at Azazel never agreeing to any type of advisor but Rias voiced her complaint before him, "You can't be serious," "Oh but I am I asked Sirzechs and everything and he told me to ask Serafall's little sister about it," at that everyone turned their attention toward Sona.
Sona sighed, "Look I didn't have a choice she said she would come instead but I didn't know Anos would be an Assistant Advisor."
"What can I say I love helping," said Anos playing along with Azazel and he winked at him, "so you basically just sold us out," said Rias, Sona was about to leave but Azazel wasn't done.
"Hold on a second I'm not done," at that the two girls paused in their depart, "I will also be helping to develop your sacred gears while helping Anos train you."
Anos put down his cup and picked up where Azazel stopped, "training is all and good but I don't fully understand Sacred Gears like Azazel here so his help will be great."
"Yes and so that goes for your peerage as well Sona," "Wait I never agreed to have you help us only Anos," "Don't sweat the small stuff but Sirzechs did have a message."
Anos turned and raised an eyebrow he didn't hear anything about this, "apparently he and Issei shared some skin ship," "Where is this going Azazel," said Anos remembering the night clearly.
"Since Issei requires certain motivations to get stronger," Anos pinched his nose, "so starting today all the female members of the ORC will be staying at his house."
Anos glanced at Issei, although it wasn't malicious in the slightest, Issei ran and started groveling, "I won't do anything dirty I promise on my life," "Don't make promises you can't keep," Issei flinched, "I uhhh…you know me to well but I will do my best."
"You can argue all you want Anos but this is an official order from the Devil King but if you are so against this idea he did say you could move in as well."
Anos blinked in confusion and Mittelt started laughing, "Don't look at me like that I am just the messenger here."
"Uhh…Lord Azazel does that go for me too," asked Irina still a little unsure why she was here, "Oh yea, you will be moving in too and going with everyone to the underworld to train. Hey Sona do you think you can get her enrolled here?"
"Yes, I can manage that much," said Sona, Koneko then walked up to Anos, "I will feel much safer if you were there. I don't want the pervert to look at me change."
Issei flinched, "I wouldn't do that," Issei then looked at Anos who said nothing but looked at him, "Well uhhh...I don't have a rebuttal," "You could have just said nothing."
Anos rubbed the back of his head, "Let me just let Ravel know," Koneko let out an annoyed sigh but nodded nun the less completely understanding.
A communication circle forms next to Anos's ear as he calls Ravel, "Hey Anos what can I do for you if this is about the living arrangement in Issei's room," says Ravel causing Anos to raise an eyebrow as he looks back at Azazel attempting to avoid his gaze with an amused smirk on his face.
"Yea, it is, it's starting to seem like I am being deliberately kept in the dark," "King Lucifer contacted your parents who then informed me and we all figured you would call to let me know," "Am I that predictable," "no but when it comes to this. Yes you are," teased Ravel through the phone."
Okay well, that saves me the explanation, well Koneko said she would feel scared," but before he would finish Ravel screams through the communication circle.
"What is that sly cat saying," Anos tilts his head slightly and looks down at Koneko who had a teasing smirk on her face, he gave her a look that said you knew this would happen.
"Here I will let you two hash it out," Anos then transferred the call to Koneko, "sup chicken," and while those two bickered everyone else continued their conversation.
"Master when will this training take place," asked Issei while his head continued to kiss the floor, "during summer break in the Underworld."
Asia, Irina, and Xenovia blink in surprise, "wait what why the Underworld," asked Issei finally looking up.
Anos looks back at him in equal confusion then toward Rias, "You didn't tell them," "I was planning to but yes Issei along with the other newcomers for summer break we will be going to the Underworld."
"Umm…is it okay for an angel to go to the Underworld," she asks out of caution because she just became an angel and does not want to immediately fall from grace.
"You should be fine Michael has been to there numerous times back when the war was going on but I understand your concern," answers Azazel eliminating some of her concerns.
Although Azazel said that Xenovia and Irina still felt a little uncomfortable but only because they were used the sending evil beings to hell instead of actually going themselves.
The communication circle next to Koneko's ear then reappears next to Anos, "Here, Turkey wants to talk to you," "Who are you calling Turkey, cat don't make me come over there?"
Screams Ravel from the other side after hearing what Koneko said about her, "it's said that's all you can come up with as a rebuttal," snickers Koneko.
"Anos give her back the communication circle," "What did you and her talk about," "Oh yeah sorry, I will be staying with you there as well and to keep an eye on that sly cat I will be staying at your school."
"Understood but you will have to talk to Sona about that," after hearing her name Sona looks at Anos but mouths he will explain later.
Later that day Anos arrives with Ravel and Rin at Issei's new house, "not bad your brother can sure renovate a house," "Renovate? I call it completely building a new house," said Anos opening the gate for Ravel and Rin.
Anos knocks on the door and it opens revealing Issei's mother, "hello Anos, Rin, and if I'm not mistaken you are Ravel correct," Ravel bows respectfully, "Thanks for inviting us into your home," Miki opens the door wider allowing the three inside.
"Well, aren't you just the cutest little thing come on in you guys," Miki shuts the door and walks ahead of them, "would you guys like a tour of the house or go straight to your rooms," "The rooms first so we could put down our bags."
Miki looks at their hands and then behind them but doesn't see any bags, "what bags," Anos steps to the side revealing a bag behind him.
"Oh I must have missed it," she says and walks up the stairs, but she didn't know Anos was holding it in a pocket dimension.
They pass numerous rooms but arrive at a double-door one that had Anos name on it, "well this is it, if you need anything else let me know."
"Thank you Miss Hyoudou, if anything comes up I will be sure to shoot you a call," Anos and the others walk inside, "this place is huge," "yea Sirzechs really went all out," both of them toss their bags on the bed as they start to unpack.
"Oh yea Sona was able to get you enrolled at Kuoh but you would start after summer vacation," Ravel nods while walking to one of the closets to put her clothes in.
"Understandable it wouldn't make sense to start school on the last day," Ravel stops after opening the closet door.
"Anos dear why are there clothes in here already," "And there are female clothes in the drawers," after taking a closer look Ravel recognizes some of the clothes which belonged to Koneko.
"Dam that cat," same time at Kuoh Koneko sneezes and snickers, "I hope she doesn't have enough room in the closet."
"We had an agreement," growled Ravel, "and what agreement would that be," asked Anos pushing aside Koneko's clothes to make room for his and Ravels.
"Uhh don't worry about it," "Sure," responded Anos since not knowing wouldn't cause any concern for him.
After finishing unpacking they decide to explore the new house deciding to start at the basement since it had more stuff to explore.
"How much of the floor did they excavate to get a full-sized theatre in here," asked Ravel, "don't know but he defiantly rearranged the city's plumbing since there is a heated pool below us as well."
They continue down past the pool and the third floor to the hidden fourth floor, "so this is your laboratory," asked Ravel walking around.
"Yes instead of always going to Ajuka's I can conduct some research here," "Oh you're here," said Azazel standing up from behind a desk inside the laboratory.
Ravels yelped at his sudden appearance, "Aren't you supposed to be at the ORC," "Those kids are old enough to take care of themselves, I don't need to be there twenty-four seven."
"Lord Azazel you scared me," said Ravel clutching her chest, "sorry I didn't hear you guys come in."
"Oh yes Anos I do have questions about the research you and Ajuka have been doing," said Azazel picking up a book, "sure what can I answer," Anos then looks down to Ravel, "If you don't want to stick around I can catch up with you later."
"I don't mind listening, plus I have been curious as to what you have been doing," Anos nodded and Azalea start throwing questions at Anos.
About two hours later Azazel got the answers he wanted was looking for, "Thanks I want to take a look at this machine both of you created I might be able to offer some help," "I'm pretty sure that should be fine, plus there are more documents at his place than there are here."
Anos then looks down at Ravel who looked deep in thought, "Do you have any questions," "I didn't really understand what you guys were talking about so I would need some time to process it and then I might have some."
Anos and Ravel depart with Rin following behind while Azazel stays in the laboratory and when they walk off they nearly bump into Rias, "oh hey you guys are," "Hello to you too," Anos takes a better look at his surroundings seeing the rest of the ORC plus Mittelt with her.
"Giving out a tour," "yea, I was about to show them the lower floors," Anos and his group step from in front of the elevator, and the others walk inside.
Later that night after dinner Anos and Ravel make their way to their room followed by Koneko and Rin, "Good thing you are coming Koneko you need to get your trash out of our room."
"Ouch, someone has an attitude, I was told to put my clothes in our rooms and I did just that," "Seems you are hard of hearing that is Anos and mine room."
The four of them walk inside the room, "I agreed that you could sleep not stay here," "It would take too much time for me to keep walking in between both rooms so I will stay here."
Ravel was now fuming as her face turned red, "I'll roast you alive," Koneko smiled cracking her fist, "please don't destroy the room," said Anos walking out of the shower and drying off his hair.
Both girls blush, "when did you," "While the both of you bickered," said Anos climbing into the bed, he had clothes on but they were blushing at the thought of him being naked to them so close by.
With the fume of the fight dispelling Ravel lets it go and goes into the bath with Koneko and they come out a few minutes later in nothing but nightgowns.
"We can continue the conversation from earlier at a later date," they then climb into bed holding into each one of his arms.
"Oh yea Anos what do you have planned for tomorrow," "Did Rias ask you to interrogate me," "Nothing gets past her," "Just let her know she will live," "That's not reassuring," but Koneko doesn't question any further deciding to snuggle into his arm falling asleep.
On the train to the underworld Rias and Sona sat next to each other trying to figure out what Anos had planned for them.
"I guessing a surprise attack," said Rias with her arms crossed, "I have no doubts about that," said Sona looking at Anos sitting on the opposite of the train with Ravel and Koneko sitting next to each other conversing.
"It could be once we arrive at the Gremory estate," "he might just blow up the mansion to catch us off guard."
The more they tried to think of what he could the harder it got to try and figure out what he was going to do.
Issei looks over at Rias and Sona noticing how cautious they were toward Anos analyzing his every move.
"They look really stressed out," said Saji noticing as well, "I guess the fact that Anos said we will live didn't really inspire hope in either of them," "That makes me wonder what last time on the mountain."
Issei crossed his arms looking at Kiba who nervously rubbed the back of his head, "I am curious as well what something we should look out for," asked Xenovia.
Kiba then told Saji and Xenovia everything that happened on the mountain and as they talked more of Sona's peerage started to surround them to listen in.
"That sounds severely stressful," said Tsubaki as she started getting dragged in, "so basically anything under the sun is possible."
"Yes, but there is basically going to be a test in the beginning to get a gauge on our strength," said Saji looking over to Anos who was still casually talking to Koneko and Ravel.
"Kind of wish I were you, Asia," said Tomoe, Asia looked at her in confusion, "Out of all of us you might not see any combat since you were taken out of the battle."
Asia rubbed the back of her head nervously, "I don't know maybe but I think that was because she didn't know how to fight but now she has been trained to some extent."
The life on Asia's face fades as she starts to worry, "hey don't scare her like that," barked Mittelt, "calm down Fallen Girl we were just stating a observation."
Rias knees started shaking, "I just can't sit here I need water or something," she gets up followed by Sona who was getting restless too.
Unfortunately, their cart didn't have any drinks so they leave for the next cars to find some, they look for one of the workers and finally find someone in the second car over.
Rias waves at the person but she doesn't respond which was weird since she was walking to her, "Umm…excuse me miss," but she just keeps walking.
Rias looks at Sona and she just shrugs, Rias turns back around and the girl was about to run into her.
Rias was about to step out of the way but she fazes through both of them like a ghost, "what the," Sona then reaches out to touch one of the people sitting across from her and her hand fazes through them.
Rias does the same as she continues walking forward, "Are any of these people real," at this point they were almost at the front of the train.
And out of curiosity go to find the conductor but there wasn't one and both come to two realizations, not a single person greeted them once they entered their car, and the test had already started.
The duo run back to their car bursting through the door, "battle positions it's already started," said Sona, Rias looked around frantically for Anos and landed on Koneko casually talking to someone who wasn't there.
Now she understood what was happening, "Get Koneko out of that illusion," "What where's Mittelt," said Asia confused since she was literally just here.
"It was an illusion I doubt either Anos, Ravel, or Mittelt even got on the train," Akeno broke the illusion on Koneko, and she blinked in confusion, "What's going on?"
"You were under an illusion," Koneko rubbed the back of her head she couldn't even tell and couldn't think of when she was placed under one.
Everyone on the train was now in their battle positions, the atmosphere was heavy and no one knew what to do, "what if the illusions were the only thing," said Saji with his sacred gear out ready for anything.
A communication circle forms next to Rias ear, "Rias is the train delayed," says Anos puzzled as to where they could be.
"What do you mean is this not a part of the training," "My test was to ambush you as soon are you arrived, where are you," alarm then forms on Rias confusing Sona, "What's going on Rias?"
"I don't think this is my brother he was gonna ambush at the station but he said we are an hour late," the same alarmed look formed on Sona's face as she tries to stay calm, "if this isn't Anos then who is attacking us."
Rias didn't have an answer no one did, "Rias what's going on. are you okay," says Anos, "I think so," "okay I'm going to contact brother and get a search and rescue underway," the line cuts mid-speech, "Anos, brother hello," "I think its safe to say whoever is behind this just cut communications."
The train slams to a halt causing some of them to trip over each other, then they start to float off the ground, "we're falling," screams Irina, "everyone brace for impact," orders Sona.
Numerous people create barriers to protect each other and are sent crashing to the floor as the train slams into the ground.
The group regathers themselves assessing any injuries acquired after the crash, "Asia heal the ones with serious injuries, and if you can use healing magic help those who can't," orders Sona.
She then looks at Rias realizing she gave one of her friend's peerage members orders, "Sorry for overstepping," "Oh no it's fine they were good orders but since we are both stuck together. We should figure out a decisive form of leadership."
Rias attempts to call her brother or anyone but no answer, Sona tried the same and yielded the same results.
In order to figure out this mess they needed to work together and that would mean possibly combining their groups and having one leader.
"You are more accustomed to fighting than me since you handle strays in Kuoh while I handle managing," "So when we are in combat I lead but when it comes to everything else you lead correct?"
"And of course, I would act as your advisor when we are in battles and the opposite when I am in charge."
"I have no problems with that," they then turned their attention to their queens who were listening in silence, "well it seems we have the form on leadership handled," said Tsubaki, and Akeno nodded in agreement, "So what are your orders, President."
Sona takes a look at their surroundings they were in a canyon, "we need to figure out our surroundings," she then looks at Koneko who was helping Momo.
"Tell Koneko to send out some of her clones to get a lay of the land and see what they can find."
Akeno bows and makes her way to Akeno, "what are your thoughts," asked Rias, "I want to see if she and her clones can find a town or something if not I am contemplating staying here. The trains have trackers so it should be easy for them to find us but the concerning thing is that if they have our location they should have teleported to us by now."
"True but that means no one is coming, well not for a while," says Rias with Sona nodding in agreement, "so what now?"
Sona then looks around at the destroyed train cars, "Tsubaki take some people to look at the destroyed train cars there may be some supplies in there that we could use."
Tsubaki bowed and went to gather some help, "we should make camp and decide to either leave the crash site based on what Koneko finds or stay."
Rias nods, "No complaints here," using the cushions from the seats they created beds to sit and lay on while using the wood to make a fire, "okay Koneko can you tell everyone what you and your clones found."
Koneko stood and began her explanation of the area.
To the South was an oasis with a few trees and water with animal tracks she surmised that some magical beast frequented the oasis.
To the North, the canyon continued for another ten miles before it reached an open desert with massive dunes but didn't go further since it stretched too far.
The East and West didn't yield anything of importance but it was much like the North in geography.
After that, she sat down, "I see what concerns me is the oasis and the magical beast that reside there, how many sets of tracks did you see," "Too many to count, and sizes varied largely."
Sona rubbed her chin, "Although it's a ways away, there may be a possibility that one of them could wander in this direction. What do you think Rias since you are in charge of combat?"
She looks to Koneko, "How long can your clones stay active," "As long as they don't take damage or run out of magic they can be alive forever," "Good create a few to be our security around the area, and have the report back if they see anything."
Koneko nodded creating fourteen clones and they disperse to take lookout positions, "thanks Rias," "no problem," Sona then continued.
"These trains have locators but since no one has arrived we can surmise they don't know where we are and we need to stay vigilant because whoever did this is still somewhere out there."
The group collectively nods understanding that even though things seem relatively safe whoever did this to them was still out there.
Earlier with Anos he was sitting at the table eating lunch with his parents, Ravel, and Mittelt, he had just hung up on Rias who was stranded in the middle of nowhere. "
Anos dear, will Rias be okay out there," says Venelana worried that this may be going a little far, "yea they are being monitored by Azazel so if anything goes wrong he will handle it. But from what Azazel said they haven't left the crash site."
Venelana let out a sigh of relief, "Well that is good seems I was worrying for nothing," "I guess I relieve lord and Lady Sitri's concerns later," says Zeoticus.
"If you guys wanna watch I can do this," Anos waves his hand creating a viewing circle of the area above where the two groups were at.
"They seem to be healing each other smart but thanks to Asia they shouldn't have to worry about any major injuries," said Anos standing up from his chair about to leave.
"Are you going to go see Serafall," asked Venelana, "Yes she has been saying that she wanted to talk to me so I figured I could use this time to do so."
Anos then left leaving Mittelt with Rin, before they entered the underworld he cast a spell on her and a barrier around the estate trapping her inside.
Since he didn't have a way of stopping Death from overtaking her body, he settled on trapping her inside having Rin keep watch over her anytime he needed to leave.
"If any trouble arises contact me," he said whispering in Rin's ear before departing, she didn't say anything but he didn't need to hear a response to know she understood.
He teleported to Serafall's domain more specifically her estate when she wasn't at her television studio.
He buzzed the ringer on the gate and a butler answered, "Hello," "It's Anos Gremory your master is expecting me," "Oh Master Anos she informed me that you would be arriving."
The Golden gates opened and Anos walked up to the mansion itself before he even thought about knocking on the door it opened revealing the butler he spoke to.
"Congratulations on your promotion Master Anos," "Thanks, although I would have wanted to stay a normal high-class devil."
The butler chucked and guided Anos upstairs to the throne room, the massive doors slid open and Anos walked inside leaving the butler behind.
Serafall was sitting on her throne sleeping her legs crossed and drooling, Anos coughed into his hand waking her up.
Serafall coughed on her own drool wiping her face and looking around confused before noticing Anos was there.
"Hey there didn't hear you come in," Serafall jumped off her throne twisting the air before landing in front of Anos, "nice that's one more twist than last time."
"Thanks, I have been practicing. Would you mind giving us some privacy," Anos raised an eyebrow, "I am sure you know how to create a barrier," "I do but why would I when I have a master of the art in front of me," Anos sighed encasing them both in a barrier.
"Anything else," Serafall rubbed her chin as if in thought then snapped her fingers, "my feet kinda hurt I would love a seat. Oh yeah, and a glass of water would be nice."
Anos just shook his head since she was just sleeping on her throne, "I hope you didn't call her me here to just act as your butler."
She just waved her hand at Anos, "Of course not," although she said this, the smile on her face betrayed her inner thoughts.
Anos then manifested a round table, two chairs, a glass pitcher of water, and two matching glass cups.
They both sat and Serafall poured Anos and herself a cup, "So can you take a guess as to why I have asked you to come here."
Anos took a sip of his water, "Sona is completely safe on the exercise I assure you," Serafall rubbed her finger around the rim of the glass.
"That's good to know but incorrect. I want you to beat my sister at chess," Anos was about to take another sip of water but stopped when she said that putting down his glass, "I'm sure you wouldn't say something like this as a joke. May I ask why?"
Anos was aware of the hidden meaning and was fully aware of Sona's feelings for him, "we both know what I am trying to say," "but have you thought of the consequences of such an action," with a completely neutral face she responded with, "yes."
Anos opened his mouth to speak but Serafall wasn't done, "do you think after you leave my sister she will not be devastated," "I could erase her memories of me."
The glass in Serafall's hand shattered spilling water on the table, "don't say stuff like that even if it was a joke."
Anos didn't say anything because well it wasn't a joke and if it was an option he would have done something about the feelings she had for him.
"Don't make a mess please and I wouldn't do something like that to her," the water on the table pooled together and then turned into a dagger of ice, "glad to hear it."
She then threw the dagger past him as it shattered on the barrier, "I actually don't have a problem beating her in chess but I don't want to utterly destroy her confidence."
"I think you underestimated how much she admires you," She said leaning back on her chair, "my sister loves you and wants to be with you."
Anos just continued to listen as she spoke, "Understand this there is no one in this lifetime or the next that will have her hand in marriage except you."
Anos took a final sip of his water before putting it on the table, "I will do the same thing I did with Ravel before playing her in chess but instead of me beating her she will have to defeat me."
Anos didn't leave any room for discussion and a satisfied smirk formed on Serafall's face, "it would be too easy for me to defeat her so this will do," Serafall outstretched her hand and Anos shook it, "sounds like a deal. Don't worry about informing my parents I will talk to them about it."
Anos stood removing the barrier and table, "You're a really good sister I guess that's why I like you so much," Anos then teleported away before he could hear what she said next, "Yes even when that requires me to put my own interest last," a blush formed on Serafall's as she let out a sigh.
Anos reappeared in his room and noticed two things Ravel was in a towel and there were at least a hundred reporters being held back by maids and butlers along with his parents.
As if unfazed Anos asked while looking out the window, "What's happening out there," Ravel tried to push down her blush by shaking her head since Anos seemed unfazed by her appearance. Ravel walked to the open window, "They've come after hearing about your promotion more negative than positive for the ones you."
Before Ravel could step in the front window Anos closed the curtains, "what," she says with a confused look on her face, "you're still naked."
The red on Ravel's face returned, "Oh yea forgot about that," a thought then came to her head as she turned even more red, "Do you like what you see."
Anos slowly turned his head as Ravel shakily started to remove her towel, the door to the bedroom burst open as Mittelt and Rin walked in.
"Hey Anos you in here," Mittelt stopped halfway in as Ravel yelped in surprise, "Oops didn't know you too were about to uhhh…I'll just come back later."
"We weren't…what can I do for you Mittelt," Ravel sighed in disappointment she actually wanted something to happen, "your mom and dad want you to come to the gate," "I'm assuming this is about the commotion at the gate?"
Mittelt gave him a thumbs up and nodded, "I'll be back Ravel we need to talk about something later," "Okay just let me know when," Anos then left leaving Mittelt and Rin behind.
"Umm…yes is there something I can help you with," Rin was walking toward Ravel with a gaze that didn't betray her inner thoughts.
Rin stopped in front of her manifesting a pen and paper, "Tell me what were you about do before we interrupted I require it for research."
Anos arrives downstairs to see his, Grayfia, and his little cousin, "hey there little Millicas," Millicas ran up to Anos and pats him on the head, "Congratulations on your promotion."
Millicas looked up to Anos with a cheerful smile, "How does it feel to be an Ultimate Class Devil," Anos hummed in thought then winked at the boy, "Not bad at all."
The smile on his face shinned even more brightly, "come now Millicas we have to resume your studies," a down casted expression formed on his face.
"When you got some free time come find me," his cheerful expression came back and Grayfia ushered him away, "I guess you're here to smooth things over with the press."
"Yes Mother called me," both then walked out the door to see more than double the reporters Anos saw earlier, "and this was course of action," Sirzechs nodded, "well Azazel and Michael's explanation wasn't wrong."
"There he is, Master Anos," "over here I have a question," "No over here just a second of your time please," "King Lucifer don't you think it's rather sudden promoting a high-class devil to ultimate class so suddenly without going through the trial."
Sirzechs outstretches his hand and the crowd grows silent, "it would be impossible to answer any of you when you talk together."
Sirzechs then points to a devil, "you," the reporter bowed nervously, "Thank you, my lord," he then looked to Anos with a grim expression.
"My question is for you. What makes you think you deserve the rank Ultimate Class when you haven't taken the trial."
It is apparent about Anos's promotion during the meeting has gotten around thanks to devils that were present spreading the information.
The trial he was talking about was a promotion ceremony used to promote devils from High Class to Ultimate and this happen in, numerous ways including trial by combat.
"I'm pretty sure you know of my fight with Kokabiel so that should prove my strength," "Yes but from a source I learned that Lady Rias and Sona's peerage were also in that battle so why aren't they being promoted too?"
Anos understood what the devil was implying, "You're saying since Rias and Sona were present at the battle and survived they should have been promoted as well."
The devil doubted the creditability of the information and based on the expressions of everyone else some had the same reservations, "Kokabiel is a Cadre it's hard to believe that you fought on equal footing with him."
"I understand but the fight wasn't on equal footing, Parisa was there as well and I held my own against both of them."
Sirzechs then interjected himself into the conversation, "Let me ask you this," "Uhh sir what is it," "If the both of us fought while I held back considerably could you claim you fought on equal footing with me and should be crowned a Super Devil?"
The devil paused for a second, "the answer would be no of course not which is why Sona and Rias weren't promoted."
After hearing that other devil's expressions showed understanding and he continued, "Now let's say you fought against Ajuka and myself and held your own in the process? Now then would it be safe to say we could promote you to Ultimate or even Super Devil?"
The scenario Sirzechs laid out had them all understanding why Anos was promoted instead of Rias and Sona but, "I understand my king but, just because master Anos can hold his own against two powerful Fallen does that mean he can be promoted?"
Anos was starting to get tired of this, if things continued to progress like they were now they could end up continuing to go in a complete circle.
Anos placed his hand on Sirzechs shoulder before stepping forward, "let me handle this," Anos started cracking his knuckles causing some of the reporters to step back in caution.
His parents stepped back, the maids and butlers holding back the reporters also noticed his approach and stepped back.
Anos walked through the gate and unveiled his twelve jet-black wings while releasing his aura forcing many of them to their knees, "if this isn't sufficient enough I am more than happy to entertain any of you."
The reporters that were still standing took a few steps back from Anos out of concern for their own safety, "Don't be scared now from what most of you believe I don't deserve the rank correct? How about this whoever defeats me can have the rank."
The reporters look at each other wondering if any of them were crazy enough now to try and challenge, suddenly another aura exploded rivaling his own.
"This aura feels familiar kind of Riser's and Ravels but more potent and powerful," thought Anos as the crowd started to part from the back.
The orange-red aura slowly made its way toward him the crowd dispersed further revealing a devil in a business suit with blonde hair and dark blue eyes.
"Seems the rumors are true Anos you have the power of an Ultimate-Class," "Seems you have the power of an Ultimate-Class too even though you haven't been promoted Ruval Phenex."
Ruval chuckled, "Actually there are talks of me promoting soon," Anos smirked, "so what brings you here."
Ruval reined in his aura and Anos did the same, "I actually came to check up on my sister and congratulate her on betrothal but something more interesting has caught my attention."
"Oh have I finally caught your attention," said Anos crossing his arms, Ruval looked passed Anos, "Hello my King and it is a please to see you in good health Lord and Lady Gremory," he said bowing respectfully.
Compared to Riser who didn't act in a way a noble should but Ruval conducts himself in a way a Nobel should.
"But to answer your question," Ruval started rubbing his chin in thought, "you have always had my attention but now I see an opportunity here."
Ruval's eyes started glowing as hell fire engulfed his body, "combat by trial," an amused smirk formed on Anos's face, "I challenge you for the rank of Ultimate-Class."
Anos rose his own aura to match, "Oh I gladly accept," Devil reporters looked in surprise at the two powerful Devils putting on an impressive display.
Anos extended his hand and Ruval shook dissipating the hellfire around his hand so he wouldn't burn Anos.
Overcoming their surprise the reporters start snapping pictures of the two, Anos could only imagine the headlines now.
Heir to the Phenex clan challenges the second son of the Gremory Clan for the ranking of the Ultimate-Class Devil.
Ruval smirked, "No hard feelings, of course, I wish to test my own abilities against the newest Ultimate-Class Devil," "and all I need to do is show the depth of my power."
The crowd dispersed a short while after Anos agreed to Ruval's declaration and everyone went back inside the mansion to the dining hall to converse about this battle.
"That was quite the declaration Ruval," said Sirzech's, "so what's the play here, I would like to believe everything you said was true but I feel there is more to it?"
Ruval nodded, there was more to him challenging Anos, "As observant as ever my King, I want to personally challenge Anos because I want to raise my own raking. Win or lose I still stand to gain something. If I win I gain the ranking of Ultimate Class but if I lose, I can show devil society that I can contend with Ultimate-Class Devils possibly raising my rank too. So in the end I don't stand to lose anything."
Anos laughed while leaning back in his seat, "How devious of you to use me to further your own agenda," "Don't be so shrewd, what you gain is showing all of devil society why you deserve the rank you were given."
"But why help my son," asked Zeoticus, although he was thankful for the help Ruval was providing he couldn't help but ask why.
"Consider it an early betrothal gift from me to him," "You seem very supportive of the marriage contrary to Riser," questioned Venelana, "Unlike him, I trust Ravel's taste in men she is a smart girl plus Anos doesn't strike me as a bad guy from what I have observed. So I had no reservations about her interest in him."
After hearing his explanation any reservations about the duel were gone although Anos didn't have any, "allow me to handle getting this fight orchestrated and expect an official announcement in two or three days. Although I can't promise you will get the ranking you want I can say this most likely boost the process of achieving Ultimate status."
Ruval bowed his head toward Sirzechs as a form of thank you for what he has done, Sirzechs then left leaving the four devils alone in the dining hall.
"Where's Ravel she didn't come outside after I flared my aura so I figured she would have at least come down to investigate."
"She is up in our room, presumably talking to my maid or Mittelt my pawn," Ruval stood from the table, "well if you would excuse me I did come here to see here."
"I need to talk to my parents about something so I can't show you the way but if you find the nearest servant they can help you find my room," said Anos, "ahh thanks I will do so."
After Ruval left Anos turned his attention toward his parents, "What did you need to discuss with us dear," "mother for what I am about to say next please stay calm," Venelana's eyes goes wide as she slams her hands on the table standing up.
"You're going to propose to Sona," Anos pauses, yea he was going to say that but how did she figure that out he wondered.
Zeoticus looks at his wife who was staring at Anos in excitement he then looked at his son who just sighed shaking his, "I guess you can't get past a woman's intuition," said Zeoticus understanding that what his wife speculated was true.
"When I went to see Serafall this is what we discussed, and I agreed to enter into an engagement with her," Venelana started clapping in excitement, Anos started to explain the stipulation he placed on the engagement.
"Isn't that a bit unfair my son I doubt her intellect surpasses or rivals your own," said Zeoticus thinking her beating him in chess was an impossible task.
"Sona is smarter than anyone or even she realizes, so I have no doubt that she can pull through," said Anos as a warm smile formed on his face.
"Well then another family will learn our family's secret but in exchange for another daughter-in-law I don't think it's a bad thing," said Zeoticus pondering the best way they could break the news to the Sitri family.
"I'm sure we could do it the same way we did with the Phenex family but they are smart enough to catch on quickly."
The family concluded and they left the dining hall, "that's right I need to tell Ravel about this. I doubt she will be against it but what if she is," thought Anos as he made his way to his room, "seems Ruval has already left," Anos opened the door and walked inside to see a sight he didn't really understand.
"Okay Rin how big can you make your boobs lots of boys like the big," Rin looked down at her almost flat chest and caused it to grow larger and larger.
She now had double D's, "I fail to understand how something this size is appealing," the trio looked toward the door as their eyes locked with Anos.
He then closed the door, "I can come back later," Anos began to walk away as the door swings back open.
"Anos are these large enough or is something bigger befitting your attention," Anos just continued to walk away deciding the ignore whatever was happening in that room or whatever the hidden meaning behind her question was.
"Anos get back here this is an important question," yelled Mittelt peeking from inside his room, "continue watching Mittelt I will be back."
"I didn't take you for a coward my love," Anos stopped his departure and turned his head, "coward," he said staring at Ravel who was smirking deviously.
"I don't have a preference on size," Anos was about to leave as he glanced at Mittelt whose pupils dilated slightly.
Ravel was engulfed in a red glow as she forcibly teleported behind Anos, Rin was staring at Mittelt but her left hand had reverted to that of a dragon.
Death smirked while leaving on the wall unfazed by the aggression coming from Anos, "Anos huh…how did I get over," said Ravel confused by her sudden teleportation.
"Ohhh that face you are making is scary. I'm getting impatient when are you coming down to see me," said Death putting on a pouty face.
"Are you that eager for your own destruction," "I'm running out of patience so you better hurry before I have to do something drastic."
Mittelt's head drooped before shooting back up looking around in surprise, "Wait wasn't I just…wait did she," Anos nodded.
Mittelt looked at Rin whose hand was slowly reverting to normal, "Wait were you about to attack me," "If you're other would have done something maybe I would have."
Mittelt hugged her body, "Please don't I don't want my body destroyed," "That's not up for me to decide."
Ravel tugged on Anos's sleeve, "What's going on," Anos relaxed before turning to Ravel, "Not here," they then funneled back into his as Anos cast a barrier to stop anyone from eavesdropping.
Since he didn't have anything going on currently he took his time to explain the full story going on with Mittelt and told her watch he said about his identity in front of her.
"I'm just surprised that not even you can separate their souls," "I am knowledgeable on how soul magic works but merging and separating souls isn't something I am gifted with to this extent."
Ravel gave Mittelt a distant look who was shrinking under Rin's gaze staring intently at her, "Anos could call your dog off," "Dog," said Rin narrowing her eyes.
Rin's eyes turned to slits as she started approaching Mittelt in response she jumped behind Anos who was sitting in a chair, "You shouldn't hurl insults if you aren't prepared for the consequences and you defiantly shouldn't insult a Dragon."
"I'm sorry," screamed Mittelt hoping Rin would stay back and she stopped her approach, "Say it again and not even Anos will be able to protect you from me Fallen."
Ravel remembered that Anos had something to ask her, "Oh yeah didn't you have something else you wanted to discuss with me," "Yes, I plan on entering an engagement with Sona."
Ravel's eyes widened, she knew of Sona's feelings for him but she was curious about what brought this on, "but course if you don't want this," Ravel stopped him by putting up a hand.
"Let me be honest I would love to have you all to myself but I know something like that isn't possible. I don't mind sharing only if they love you for you and not your status. But I would like to know what you like about Sona," Anos leaned his head back and thought for a second.
"When I was young there were very few who didn't treat me differently after I lost my title as heir to the clan. Although it didn't bother me it was a nice change of pace to have someone other than Rias and Sairaorg. I'd say if it wasn't for Sona I would be a lot more closed off to devil society, she is one of the ones that showed me that there are devils who look past status and rank."
The more Anos spoke about Sona the more she learned just how much of an impact she has had on him since being born here.
"I never knew Sona meant that much to you or has done that much for you, kinda makes me jealous," said Ravel feeling emotional, "You are amazing in your own way you showed me the innocence in this world beyond my sister something worth protecting and I cherish. Seeing your smile warms my heart every time."
Ravel's face started feeling hot as she looked away from Anos trying to hide her blushing face, "Oh that's uhhh…ummm I uhhh...thanks."
Anos stood from his seat patting her on the head, "No problem anytime," Anos looked out the window noticing it was getting late and it was probably time for dinner, "How about we go get some food I'm sure the servants made something wonderful."
The next day Anos was working in Ajuka's lab as Ravel sat at the desk reading some of the research documents about what they had learned and discussed.
Mittelt and Rin were at the estate since Anos didn't want Death to learn anything about him and didn't want to share, "Hey Anos in here it says you have looked into other worlds, have you ever thought of going to those worlds," asked Ravel putting down the document.
Ajuka and Azazel stopped what they were doing, "Yes we have actually thought of visiting a few but never have because we have come across a few powerful universes."
Ajuka then pulled out a book, "This is a list of the worlds we have come across and flagged, and some of those we have only opened once because they perceived our presence."
Ravel got up and grabbed the book, "Dragon Maid," she read aloud glancing at Rin and then back to the book, "This one doesn't have much information just a name and a description of what the individual looked like."
"We don't know much about that universe except a powerful dragon dressed as a maid who lives there who is able to perceive us watching and the power I sensed put her close to Ophis in strength."
Ravel flipped the book, "I can see why you haven't visited the world again, Merlin the Magus of Flowers," there was a shattering sound of glass breaking, "ughh…that old fart was a colossal headache," said Ajuka sighing.
"Like Merlin Merlin the ancient wizard, you guys met him, in another universe, what was he like?"
Thirteen years ago, Ajuka and Anos were working on another transportation spell in the Dimensional Gap, "All set up on my end," said Ajuka "Same here," responded Anos preparing the magic circle.
The spells initiated and a window appeared revealing Japan, "Did it work it looks just like Japan," said Ajuka taking down notes to keep track of what they were observing, "seems like it."
The window then distorted to their confusion, "Is it breaking," Usually if the spell was failing the window would crack and not get static like it was on a television.
"I don't believe so," the static stopped revealing a sky with clouds and pink flowers stretching out for miles, "Did you do this Anos," "I was gonna ask if you did Ajuka?"
"Hello, peeping toms," said a voice, "shoot is this thing backward," the mirror then flipped revealing a man wearing a robe woven within fine fabrics, he had long hair appearing with the colors of the rainbow under sunlight.
"Don't be alarmed I'm not your enemy unless you plan on bringing ruin to my world," normally Anos would have canceled the spell but the man didn't strike him as a threat, "Can he hear us," asked Ajuka since this was the first time something like this has happened.
The man started his staff on the window, "Hello is this thing on," he then started rubbing his chin, "I could have sworn this was a type of viewing spell."
Anos then tapped the window, it rippled then glowed, "Oh my hello there peeping toms," said the man waving at the duo, "I don't recognize you are you from another world perhaps?"
Anos and Ajuka traded looks for a moment, "I am Ajuka Beelzebub and this is my friend Anos Gremory," "I am Merlin," Merlin bowed respectfully, "so what brings you to my world?"
"We are looking for a specific world but came across yours instead," said Ajuka stopping his note-taking, "How did you hijack our spell or know where it was," Merlin pointed at his eyes, "I have clairvoyance so I can see everything that is happening at any given time around the world.
So I instantly saw the distortion in space over Japan and using my own magic I altered what it was seeing."
"From what you told me so far he doesn't sound like a bad guy," said Ravel not understanding why Ajuka reacted the way he did before.
"Don't get me wrong he's a decent guy but he's just a lot to deal with at any given time plus he kept calling me a second-rate caster, even after I explained all of my exploits. But he did shed some light on different universes," said Ajuka growing more and more frustrated.
"I see so you are the one who is displaced," said Merlin rubbing his chin, "I may not look it but I am somewhat familiar with the multiverse and different realities," "Oh really do tell," said Anos interested in gaining new knowledge about how to find his way home.
"First I want to say what you have done is an accomplishment because peeking into different realities should be easier than breaking through your own universe's finite curve."
"Finite Curve," questioned Anos, "think of it as the universal seal on every universe which creates different realities. For example, your universe and mine reside in two separate Universal Finite Curve and should never come into contact, and the cracking that you see anytime you open a window to another world is Finite Curves attempt to merge the two universes since the two universes are now connected."
Ajuka had been writing all this down but stopped, "So the finite curves are meant to keep the realities separate but if there is now a connection that means will naturally repel each other or attempt to combine."
"You catch on quick but have you noticed something," "This one isn't cracking," "Correct demon king but the more compatible the universes are the longer it will take for them to merge each other or separate naturally."
Merlin could tell they still looked confused so he gave another analogy, "Seems that went a bit over your heads," Merlin there created some bubbles, and inside those bubbles were tiny bubbles, the bubbles orbited around him.
"Imagine each one of these bubbles are separate universe and inside each bubble are different realities within that universe."
Two bubbles floated next to each other and bounced away, "naturally they get close to each other but just as naturally they separate."
Two more bubbles collided then slowly started merging creating one bubble instead, "Like I previously said they can also merge but," two new bubbles touched and started to merge but then popped and now Ajuka and Anos understood.
The more Anos thought about it, what he said did make sense the first one they made almost immediately started cracking but the other ones that resembled their world lasted longer but his own world didn't resemble this one at all so how did he get here?
"The premise of reincarnation to another world shouldn't be a surprise correct, think back on the different stories about the subject, sometimes it has to do with gods pulling individuals from another world or people dying and waking in another world."
Anos nodded understanding that he fell into the second category, "reincarnation in your instance and like others is a naturally occurring phenomenon like the weather."
"Thanks to Merlin's explanation we now know about the finite curves and that there wasn't a mistake with my spell but it was something more aligned with a naturally occurring phenomenon."
The more Ravel flipped through the book the more she learned about powerful individuals they came across, a communication circle appeared next to Anos's ear, "Hello Azazel," "We are entering the final stages of the test do you want to watch how they do," "sure I'll be right over."
Anos ended the call, "leaving," questioned Ajuka, "yes Rias and Sona are about done so I want to see how they are going to hold up," he then looked to Ravel who was gathering her things and preparing to leave.
Anos waves goodbye and Ravel bows respectfully then they disappear in a flash of red reappearing on top of a large canyon.
"Oh you made it here before they finished off the last of the magic beast," Anos glanced over the edge seeing both peerages commanded by Rias fighting off four lion-type magic beasts.
"They look a lot better than I thought they would," said Ravel watching them kill one of the magic beasts.
"Come now Ravel give them more credit than that," said Ajuka sipping a drink out of his cup along with eating some popcorn.
"I didn't mean anything rude by it but they have just been in the wilderness for a while," "I'm more surprised they stayed inside the canyon instead of leaving," said Anos creating a chair for him and Ravel to sit on.
"They sent some of Koneko's clones to scout the area but I destroyed them and sent a horde of magic beasts toward them in the middle of the night, so they didn't have room to leave."
Anos nodded watching them easily finishing off the last of the magic beast, "Is he ready," "Yep he's just awaiting our call," "Wait who are you guys talking about," questioned Ravel looking between the both of them, "just watch," said Anos winking at her.
Azazel made a call using a communication circle, "Hey big guy it's time," Azazel said nothing further as he hung up, moments later a star appeared in the sky above.
But after a closer look, it was apparent it wasn't a star but a meteor crashing down toward the canyon, "What in the world is that," said Ravel looking up in surprise. Anos then cast a barrier around Ravel to protect her from shock waves as the metro slammed into the ground only a few yards away from Rias and Sona.
The fireball and dust disperse to reveal fifteen meters tall gigantic western Dragon covered in dark purple scales with a triangular head with yellow horns.
"What's a dragon doing here," yelled Ravel in surprise, Anos smirked, "Have you not heard of the former Dragon King Tannin?"
Epilogue 1: Athena's Premonition
Athena was at a roadblock and Artemis for all her worth wasn't making it easier, from the day the fate of Olympus had changed to today she couldn't determine the cause.
No matter how many times she looked over the scrolls the lessor gods brought her she couldn't find a common detonator as to how this all happened.
"You're supposed to be super smart how have you not figured this out yet father is getting impatient," Athena tossed her spear at her sister who dodged leaning her head to the right.
"Someone ones getting grumpy," "If you aren't going to make yourself useful then get out," Artemis shrugged she was getting bored anyway and was looking for an excuse to bail and do something more productive.
While departing Athena's private throne room she managed to dodge a lesser god who would have bumped into her.
"Apologies Lady Artemis, I have another scroll Lady Athena," Artemis took the scroll and he left, "I got something new for you."
"Ugh probably more useless information, give it here," Artemis tossed the scroll to Athena after unrolling it she read it and was about to toss it before something came to mind, "you got that look like you just thought of something."
"No it's I recognize the name on the scroll, Anos Gremory, it says here he was just promoted to Ultimate-Class," Artemis rubbed her chin, "oh yeah it was the guy who that rating game a few weeks ago."
Athena put the scroll down and started ruffling through the pile of scrolls she deemed unnecessary for her task and pulled out one, "yea Anos Gremory defeated Riser Phenex's peerage in a complete victory."
"Isn't that guy only a high-class devil why would they let a potential Ultimate-Class fight a high-class devil peerage?"
Artemis gave her a look that asked how she would know that "I watch those devil-rating games that come but is that so weird."
Artemis was about to say no but something else caught her attention as she went back to the first scroll, "says here her fought Kokabiel and Parisa. Weren't you there, did you notice at all," "I mean there was another devil presence I didn't recognize amongst the strong ones, so I'm guessing the one I didn't recognize was him I guess."
Artemis then read the report further seeing that the announcement was made at the Three Faction Alliance Peace Treaty, she remembered another report that came from Amaterasu that she got from Yasaka.
Anos wasn't involved in the fighting but played a massive role by having the welder of Twilight Healing heal everyone on the battlefield. "Anos again and again," she whispered to herself, "seventeen years only exactly the same time when our door clock started."
She then looked at the date of the rating game the same exact date Apollo started going crazed with prophecies.
"Earth to Athena you look as if you just realized something," she was having a gut feeling she was onto something but it was very circumstantial.
There was one last thing she had to confirm, the shadow was supposed to appear in Kuoh but never did although this Anos devil arrived presumably at the same time those Kudan couldn't see the future anymore.
Artemis was now shaking Athena by the shoulder, "I mean yeah it's a stretch him simply being born or participating in a rating game can cause the destruction of the world but when he arrived Kuoh's further was undesirable."
Artemis's mind was now running at 110%, she kept running for different reasons but they kept getting debunked, she tried remembering anything from the dozens of schools she read.
But when comparing them to the first twin devils born into existence, one of the strongest magical youths defeating an entire peerage alone, and defeated two powerful Fallen Angels after only being a known High-Class devil with no previous shreds of evidence of being capable of such power before but did this devil have the power to bring the destruction of the world it couldn't be…could it?
Epilogue 2: A Devil's Understanding
Rizevim's secret laboratory was more lively than ever after his recent success with his latest project.
The scientists working here finally knew what it felt like to be in a healthy work environment.
Rizevim's mood after conquering his most troublesome project made lifted the spirits of every devil inside.
They no longer felt as though one day they could die if they happened to cross Rizevim on a bad day after a failed experiment.
Currently, the devil was experimenting on the fetus, it was now resembling that of a four-month-old fetus.
He had transferred the fetus to another container connecting new wires to monitor its vitals but as anything else to aid in its growth.
He made it as hard as possible and yet it persevered and continued to grow, he poisoned the fluid it was living in and kept running electricity through the liquid shocking it.
"You may be growing but even I don't understand how," even now he was still running tests to understand why a hostile living environment helped with its growth.
"Sock it again," he ordered and the devil flipped the switch running a volt of electricity through.
The machine beeped indicating a change in the vitals as the heart rate slowed, "increase the voltage and increase the toxicity of the container," the devil did as instructed the beeping stopped, and the vital signs returned to normal. This has been happening lately as the fetus continues to grow it starts to become more resistant to its horrible living environment.
