Kim raced over to Bonnie's house as fast as she could. Fortunately, Bonnie lived only three blocks away from the Possible house, so it wasn't too far. Once Kim found the right address, she knocked on the door. It was quickly opened by a lady with curly brown hair and pink-rimmed glasses, and Kim recognized her right away. She had met Bonnie's mother at the school trip to Middleton Mountain last year, and it quickly became clear that Mrs. Rockwaller recognized her as well.
"Oh, Kim! Bonnie said you were coming to help look for Johnny. Thank you so much!"
"It's no big, ma'am. Helping those in need is what I do."
"Well, it's certainly a big deal to us. Come right in and make yourself comfortable. As long as you're looking for my son, our home is your home."
The two of them entered the Rockwaller family living room. Bonnie was standing by the couch, next to two older girls Kim didn't recognize. "I don't believe you've met my other daughters," Mrs. Rockwaller said. "Connie is standing in the middle, and Lonnie is on the right next to Connie. Girls, this is Bonnie's friend Kim Possible. She's here to help us find Johnny."
"Is she the same Kim Possible we're always seeing on the news?" Connie asked.
"That's her," Bonnie confirmed. "She does all sorts of amazing things." She didn't mention that Kim was also a constant thorn in her side at school. It was a bit surreal for Bonnie to see Kim being welcomed into her home as an honored guest, and even more surreal that she herself was the one who had invited her here. But their high school rivalry meant nothing right now. Her little brother was in danger, and Kim was going to try to get him home safely. That was all that mattered.
Kim smiled politely. "I'm happy to meet all of you, although I wish it were under better circumstances," she told the Rockwallers. "I know this has to be a really hard time for everyone, and I'll do my very best to find Johnny."
Mrs. Rockwaller had already gotten a small picture of Johnny and handed it to Kim. "This is our most recent photo of him. It's from the family pictures we took this summer." As happy as she was to see Kim, it was obvious that she and her daughters were worried sick about the missing boy. "Johnny was wearing jeans and a plain blue T-shirt when he disappeared. Blue's his favorite color."
"Good to know. Thanks, Mrs. Rockwaller." Kim looked at the photo closely. Johnny had a strong resemblance to Bonnie—their skin tone and facial features were much the same—but his hair was blond like Lonnie's. In the picture, he was directly facing the camera and had a big, happy smile. He looked adorable and angelic to Kim, and her heart went out to that little boy. Wherever he was, he certainly wasn't happy or smiling right now. He needed to be back home with his loved ones, and her job was to make that happen.
Pulling out her Kimmunicator, she tapped a button and pulled Wade up. "Wade, I've got a picture of Johnny. Take a look."
"Yep, I see him. Cute kid." Wade tapped a few buttons and a light briefly emanated from the Kimmunicator. "I've scanned the picture and now have a full-color missing poster of him put together on my computer. I've got a printer that can get tons of them out really quickly, so you'll have as many as you need."
"That's terrific!" Connie said. "How about Lonnie and I come over to your place to get the posters and then we can hit the streets?"
Kim nodded. "That sounds like a plan. Bonnie, why don't you show me Johnny's room? The more I can find out about him, the better."
Bonnie agreed and led Kim upstairs. Johnny's room was near the end of a hallway, next to Bonnie's own room. As she entered, Kim noticed that there were plenty of dinosaur toys as well as dinosaur sheets on the bed. "Johnny's really into dinosaurs," Bonnie told her. "He's got a lot of books about them and he's always telling us facts he's learned about the different types. His favorite is T-Rex."
"He sure does seem to like them," Kim agreed as she looked around the room. The two girls approached Johnny's bed and sat down. "Bonnie, what's Johnny like personality-wise? Is he friendly? Shy? Does he get into trouble much? Any info like that could really help."
"He can be a little shy around new people, but once you get to know him he's super sweet and kind. He doesn't like seeing people upset, and he'll try to help anyone who needs it. That's one of the things that has us so scared. A stranger could easily trick him into going with them by saying they need help."
"Okay. I'm guessing from that he's not a runaway."
"No way. Johnny's a happy child who really loves life and all of us. I don't get along that well with my sisters and we have plenty of fights, but all three of us love Johnny to death and we make sure to keep him out of our disagreements. Besides, if Johnny really did want to run away, he'd never leave Wally behind."
Kim raised an eyebrow. "Wally?"
"The teddy bear." Bonnie pointed to the stuffed animal next to her. "He's had that bear ever since he was a toddler. Lonnie got it for him on his second birthday, and he absolutely loves it." Bonnie bit her lip and her eyes began to water. "It must have been so hard for him to spend last night without Wally."
Kim gave Bonnie a tissue. "Bonnie, I'm so sorry you're going through this. I have little brothers of my own, so I get it."
"Th-thanks." Bonnie needed a moment to cry a little, then wiped her eyes and took a deep breath. "What else do you want to know?"
"Is Johnny's dad someone who could have taken him? I'm guessing he doesn't live with you guys, and most kidnappings are done by parents and relatives. Could he be a suspect?"
Bonnie shook her head. "I actually thought of that yesterday, but the police cleared him. He was at work when Johnny disappeared. Besides, realistically he probably couldn't have done it even if he wanted to."
"What do you mean?"
"After Mom and Dad divorced, he moved to another state," Bonnie explained. "He lives over a thousand miles away and it's really hard for us to arrange visits. So for him to take Johnny, he would have had to travel to Middleton for hours, take Johnny, and then travel back for hours, all without drawing attention. I don't see that happening."
Kim didn't say anything about it, but Bonnie's family situation sounded really difficult. Her own father was a little overprotective—okay, a lot overprotective—but she loved him dearly and couldn't imagine him living so far away. Maybe Bonnie not having her dad was one of the reasons she could be so unpleasant at school. "Okay, that eliminates him as a suspect, I agree. Why don't you tell me about what school's like for him? You said he never came home from there, so that's probably where we need to start looking."
"Well, he's a second-grader. He's a really good reader, but struggles a bit with math. He mentioned he was having a math test yesterday and it would be tough. As far as the other kids, he's got plenty of friends, but sometimes gets picked on. You can't tell it from the picture, but he's a little small for his age, so the bigger kids can intimidate him."
"That's good info. And where does he go to school?" Kim knew there were three elementary schools in the Middleton school district: Garfield Elementary, Maple Lane Elementary, and Skyview Elementary. She and Ron had attended Skyview, as had the tweebs, so she knew the building's staff quite well. If Johnny went there as well, that would be really helpful for the search. But Kim hadn't met Bonnie until middle school, so she didn't think he went there.
"He attends Garfield Elementary. Same as my sisters and I did."
Kim had been right. "Then I guess we're heading to Garfield Elementary. You know the place a lot better than I do, so when we get there I'll need you to show me around and tell me who everyone is."
"Kim, I'll do anything. Thanks again, so so much. This means more than I can ever express."
