Captain America: The First Hero

It is 1941 and the world is in the throes of war. Stephanie Rogers wants to do her part and join America's armed forces, but the military rejects her because of her small stature. Finally, Stephanie gets her chance when she is accepted into an experimental program that turns her into a supersoldier called Captain America, chosen to fight the rogue science division known as Hydra.

4. Chapter 4

Ch 4

At night, Bucky and Stephanie went to the World Expo and Howard Stark came out on stage, giving a flashy smile for the cameras.

"Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Howard Stark!" one of the showgirls announced. Stark kissed the girl that announced him, then took the microphone and gave a wink before he spoke.

"Ladies and gentlemen, what if I told you that in just a few short years, your automobile won't even have to touch the ground at all?" Howard said.

The crowd gasped in surprise and awe as the showgirls removed the tires of the car. Howard went to his control panel.

"Yes, thanks, Mandy. With Stark Gravitic Reversion Technology, you'll be able to do just that!"

Then Howard pulled a switch and the car slowly lifted up into the air until it was actually floating.

"Holy cow!" Bucky said.

"Wow!" Stephanie added.

Then the car crashed back down to the ground with a thunderous boom.

"I did say a few years, didn't I?" Howard said with a chuckle and the crowd laughed.

Suddenly, Stephanie disappeared and Bucky managed to find her at another enlistment station.

"You really gonna do this again?" Bucky asked.

"Well, it's a fair." Stephanie pointed out. "I'm gonna try my luck."

"As who? Stephanie from Ohio? They'll catch you, or worse, they'll actually take you. This isn't a back alley, Steph, it's a war!"

"I know it's a war!

"Why are you so keen to fight? There are so many important jobs."

"Like what? Collecting scrap metal in my little red wagon?"

"Yes, why not?"

"I'm not gonna sit in a factory, Bucky."

Then Stephanie tried her last card, hoping that this would change his mind.

"There are men laying down their lives. I got no right to do any less then them. That's what you don't understand. This isn't about me."

"Right. 'Cause you have nothing to prove."

Then they hugged for what would be the last time before Bucky pulled away after a long time.

"Don't do anything stupid until I get back." Bucky said softly.

"How can I?" Stephanie asked with a small smile. "You're taking all the stupid with you."

"You're a punk."

"Jerk. Be careful." Bucky nodded and walked off. "Don't win the war till I get there!"

Bucky turned and gave a salute.

Stephanie saluted back and Bucky grinned before turning away.

Then Stephanie took a deep breath and headed into the building.
