Big Time Soccer

Katie’s summer plans are put on hold when she is signed up to be part of a local youth soccer team for girls her age. She reluctantly participates to make her mom happy. Every girl on the team doesn’t seem interested in talking to her at all and she feels extremely insecure and left out. She wants to quit but is encouraged not to by a potential friend

5. Chapter 5

Monday morning the weather is much more tolerable*

Katie I know exactly how we can help you out with your soccer skills "Logan says"

How's that? "Katie says"

Well I figured that cuz the guys and I are hockey players we can just imagine the ice rink as a soccer field. All I'm saying is we shouldn't give up that quickly on finding a solution to your problem. We're your big brothers. It's our job to help you with your problems. Big or small "Logan says"

I don't know if I can accept your help. I'm really lame at soccer. I only know how to kick the ball but that's not really a fancy skill. It's basic knowledge "Katie says" but I if I quit no one will protect Izzy. I don't want to lose her as a friend. I can't do that to her. It wouldn't be nice. The golden rule is to treat the others the way you want to be treated. I've treated her with kindness and she gave it right back. I care about her

After breakfast they all go to an open field at a local park*

Ok Katie we're gonna do some basic drills "Logan says" We're gonna kick the ball back and forth through the cones just like what you did yesterday

But I failed and fell and everyone laughed at me. It was humiliating "Katie says"

We're not gonna laugh at you "Logan says"

Sighs* Ok "Katie says and does the drill but trips and falls"

Are you ok princessà? "Carlos says running to help her up"

Yeah I'm fine "Katie says wiping the dirt off her clothes"

Try again Katie. You're still nervous just relax "Logan says"

Katie does it over and over again for 10 minutes and starts to get better"

Good job "Kendall says"

I'm tired of doing this. Can I go to the playground now? "Katie says"

Sure "Katie says" Come on Carlos. I'll race you on the monkey bars. Nobody is there. We'll have the whole play set to ourselves

Vamonos! "Carlos says and they rub together laughing"

You know at this post we have 2 children we're watching "James says"

He, Kendall and Logan sit on a bench near the playground*

After about 3 hours they go home and hang out in the pool area at the Palm Woods*

How often do you have soccer practice? "Camille says"

Every Wednesday "Katie says" And the first game is Saturday. I don't wanna let the team down by being the worst player out there

I'm sure there's other girls on your team with the same worry "Jo says"

They all go inside by sunset*
