As Maverick stares out into the distance, trees meet his gaze, green and brown stretching endlessly, surrounding the road the young man and his team walks on.
Caster. That is why the group is here. From Heracles, Maverick has heard of what occurred between the Caster and Archer pairs, namely that Caster was defeated, only to be spared like the others defeated by the demigod.
However, the Caster duo did not experience the Berserker duo's fate. Instead, they were placed under surveillance, and after some time, before the group's current situation, the surveillance, and also Assassin's, being in some news about the magic wielding Servant.
And now…
"I believe I am better off staying in the back." Heracles says, appearing out of thin air as he does. With his suggestion, he and his Master stay back as their allies proceed.
Having done so, Maverick and Jeanne see only forestation on their trek, with some animals present through the journey. Amongst the sightings, one causes Maverick to pause. A bear, which, while normal and significantly less hostile than the last one he and his Servant encountered, still halts his pace briefly, him frowning while watching the beast.
After the brief run into, the trek of Maverick and his Servant resumes, and on it, her steps are heavier than before, a change that draws his attention. While following behind, he frowns while watching her, but soon turns his attention back to the road.
Through the journey, the two meet a couple more predators, none of which aggressive. Beyond that, no threats are encountered.
"Stop." Heracles calls after Maverick and Jeanne walk for a while, his voice coming from a wristband Maverick wears, "It appears you are approaching a zone armed with… some form of spell that can warn Caster. Take care to not activate them." At the bowman's words, Maverick turns to his Servant, who looks around before speaking up.
"Okay. I see them now." The Berserker then clicks her thing, "Can't you two do something?" Neither gives a useful answer, the Servant due to lack of magic mastery while the Master, while proficient in magecraft, is weaker than Caster.
"Argh. Fuck it!" Berserker continues after the responses, "Let's go in there and kick her arse! She's just a posh faker. I… I…" "J…" Maverick tries to call, but remains silent, and his Servant continues. "She's not the first one I've faced!"
"Calm down." Heracles responds, "I have faced her, but she might be more dangerous than she was before." "The fuck did you let her go anyway? Hell. The fuck did you let any of us go?" Her questions get no response, though the bowman's Master changes that. "He got soft. Anyway, I am not sure I can keep tracking her if she gets away, so be careful."
With the Servants and mage wary of alarms, the group continues, and while following behind, the non mage starts catching sight of magic circles around him and his Servant.
…
"Tch. Freaking tea sipper." Berserker says as she navigates around a magic circle, "Drinking their stupid tea and making everybody miserable. That's all these aresholes are good for!" As she continues walking, her Master watches her from behind. His mouth then opens, but just like before, no sounds exit.
Clenching his teeth, he continues following his Servant.
Eventually, silence surrounds the two as they walk, the Master's frequent exhalations the only thing preventing complete stillness. As said Master takes another step, he halts. The reason for so? In front of him, his Servant has turned around, and is now glaring at him. She then continues does so for a short while, before her eyes widen.
"Berserker?" Heracles asks upon seeing the Servant drag her Master by the wrist. While his freedom is stripped, the Master smiles as he continues watching the young woman from behind, with said young woman ignoring their ally's call.
"Hold!" The other Servant shouts after some time, and the Berserker, after taking a step, pauses and looks down.
"Putain de merde!"
Giants rise from the earth, seemingly made of soil and slightly taller than even Heracles. They appear to be armored knights, their arms of choice a shield and a spear, scaled to match their wielder's colossal proportions.
"Argh! Bow guy, cover me!" Berserker shouts before running, dragging her Master along as she does. Her ally does as told, his arrows hitting the approaching enemies and slowing their advance. Then, after some running, the Berserker drops her Master, her blades spawning as he grunts.
"All right! Always nice to kill you biscuit freaks!"
Her flames connect, and she stares. The giants pass through the inferno, and their weapons close in, before the warriors once again get showered on by giant steel pillars. A second wave of projectiles then fly, fully decimating the surrounding enemies.
Said Berserker's glare moves to another enemy, and she attacks before once again staring. "Argh!" She roars after her ally brings down the enemies that approached her, "Bow guy, leave one of those assholes to me!"
More arrows continue to fly, and the Berserker continues to dance around one of the giants. Fires formed through swings, flames that erupt after her blades connect, and just her blades alone. All these techniques are used on her enemy, but none bring the behemoth down.
While some pieces of soil are chipped by black colored explosions, the giant's wounds would always heal, and thus, even after some time passes, the Berserker continues to glare at the same ogre. Arrows then fly, returning the moving statue back to the earth.
"What the hell was that for?!" She shouts, and her Master stares at her. "I had that ass-" "We don't have time." Diamandis interrupts, "Also, we don't speak French." The Berserker growls before turning to her Master. As their eyes meet, he stares while she glares. Their eyes remain locked for some time, with the Servant breaking the lock by turning around.
"I am gonna fucking murder that cardboard!"
Running after the young woman, her Master frowns.
…
"Grr…" The Berserker Servant growls after her and her Master run for some time. After their journey, coyotes now surround them, glaring back as Berserker glares at them. "Get out of here, you mutts!" The saint continues shouting, spawning a black flame in her palm as she does.
However, the beasts do not retreat, but instead advance, causing Maverick's breathing to speed.
"The thing we have." The Berserker clenches her teeth, "That shitty line fucker." "Berserker, can you and Li take them?" Diamandis interjects. "These bitches? Ya." "Take care." Heracles adds on.
Some of the animals then jump, only to be consumed by a blast of flame. Some arrows, giant, then fly, taking out some of their numbers. However, the burnt corpses of the former group hit the wielder of the flames, pinning her down. Then, with Heracles no longer providing cover fire, the remaining beasts make their move.
"Argh!" Berserker shouts, a black flickering pillar rising into the air as she does. The corpses that kept her down get destroyed, and the beasts that jumped get consumed. Then, as more bodies crash down around her, Berserker pants, but two of the last three coyotes rush her.
"Bring it!" She roars as blades spawn in her hands, and behind her, her Master too has brandished a weapon. A baton, one with a certain degree of enhancement, combined with a wristband making him a bit more agile and durable. These Mystic Codes are all Maverick have to face the last coyote.
The beast jumps, but a swing keeps it away. The man remains on guard, and the beast flies again, prompting another swat. However, the third ascension very swiftly follows, and the man at the point of descent stares.
Heat. Sound. Force. Pain. His feet lose balance, but he manages to reorient them. Still, lightheaded forces him to lie on the floor. Then, after some time, he forces himself to a sitting position, and while looking around, smiles at the scene in front of him.
"The fuck you smiling about?!" His Servant's shout causes his eyes to widen, and he proceeds to massage his head. "What happened?" "One of those mutts was about to jump you so I blew everything up!" "I…" He smiles, prompting her to stare, "I see… Thanks."
She continues staring for a while before looking away, rubbing the back of her head as she does. "Shut up…" He frowns at the scene before also looking away, responding after doing so. "Okay…"
Soon, his footing returns, and at his Servant's command, he finds himself in her arms. However, instead of moving, the Servant studies the remains around her and her Master, who proceeds to call her. "Jan?" She stares at him, prompting her own surprise.
At the sight, she glares at him before turning to the road ahead. Then, she begins moving, and as she does, while being carried, her Master's continues frowning at her.
