In a world where love is determined by fate and people are bound by different colors of strings, Sawada Tsunayoshi works as a string binder and cutter, taking advantage of the ability to see and touch the strings without restrictions. Only a selected few are gifted with such an ability.
Normally, most people are only able to see their string when it is finally connected to someone, but in Tsuna's case, who came from a distinguished family of matchmakers, not only can he see and touch other people's strings, but he can also bind it to someone whom he deemed compatible as well as cut the strings of those who does not want to be bound by the thing called fate.
Everyone has their preference. Some people prefer to let their strings determine the people they are going to be with but some do not want to be enslaved by such illusion and chose to pursue love on their own.
The downside of having the ability to manipulate the strings freely is not being able to see his string, or who it connects to, not that it matters to Tsuna. In his eyes, the strings are a curse that can bring about destruction in people's lives, something that he has experienced firsthand.
"Tenth, these are the files from the Research Investigation Department that you asked for. They consist of the information and history of our clients for the following week,"
Gokudera Hayato is one of the few in Tsuna's company who can see strings of people whenever he wants to. He also serves as Tsuna's secretary and the one who usually handles most of the managerial tasks of their company. Hayato considers Tsuna as his god after saving him from one of his obsessive stalkers during middle school by offering him to cut off the string that connects them. Ever since then, Tsuna and Hayato have been inseparable.
"Thanks for the hard work, Hayato, but shouldn't you be getting off with Takeshi at this time? It's almost dinner time, I'm sure he's waiting for you to come out now," Tsuna said as he accepted the thick folder Hayato brought him. He started flipping off the pages and read the details one by one, making sure to take mental notes of the relevant ones in case trouble ensue in the future.
Yamamoto Takeshi is the person Hayato is connected with by the red strings of fate. He is also Tsuna's best friend together with Hayato. The three of them have been together since middle school, and now, Takeshi serves as the head of the Customer Service Department and is usually the one to accompany Tsuna when meeting clients. Just like Hayato, Takeshi can also see strings but since he came from a family of string cutters, Takeshi is gifted with the ability to cut strings, hence, why he was able to lend Tsuna a hand.
The silver head sighed as he watch his boss get back to work, reading file after file and typing at his computer now and then. "How about you, Tenth? You just got back from an off-site job and have not had a proper rest yet."
"That's right, Tsuna. Haven't you been overworking yourself too much lately? What if you suddenly collapse from exhaustion?" A gentle voice abruptly interjects as a tall man with a vertically scarred chin made his presence evident by walking inside the brunet's office.
Tsuna set down the thick files and smiled while shaking his head. He leaned back on his swivel chair as he starts tapping his fingers on his desk. "The two of you never really changed. I'm alright, okay? I'll go home after I finished reading this," Upon receiving a stern look from the couple, he ultimately yielded. "Right, okay, okay, I would only be asking for trouble if I remain stubborn."
"Great, let's have dinner together then, Tenth! It's been some time since the three of us have hung out together outside of work." Hayato beamed, running off to fetch his coat and phone to make a reservation at their favorite restaurant. Both Tsuna and Takeshi can even make out the silver head's tail wagging in excitement, making them both chuckle.
Takeshi watched his best friend and boss clean up his things quite intently, shoving necessary files inside his briefcase to read and sign later, while the already signed paperwork went into their designated organizer. The worry in his eyes never wavered the slightest as he took in the brunet's appearance; the way his face is seemingly taken over with a tired and pale look. There are also dark bags under his eyes that scream sleep deprivation and overwork.
"Tsuna, why don't we cut down the number of clients by one-third until we find more recruits for the job? I know how hard it is for you to handle them all by yourself when the Sasagawa siblings and I are not around to help."
Sasagawa Ryohei and Sasagawa Kyoko are other close friends of theirs from middle school who also work with them now. The siblings belong to a relatively normal family but for some reason, they also have the ability to touch and bind strings. They are not as efficient as Tsuna and cannot precisely assess the compatibility rate of their clientele, therefore the majority of the clients still fall under the brunet's hands.
That seemed to halt Tsuna's movements for a while, sighing before he proceeded in shutting down his computer. "That could have a substantial negative effect on the company's development and could potentially hinder our overall progress and success, Takeshi. Considering everything we've gone through to build the company from scratch, we simply cannot afford to let anything jeopardize our progress," Tsuna casually walked across the room, carrying his briefcase, and retrieved his trench coat from the rack. He put it on before leaving the office with Takeshi following close behind. "Besides, I'll be fine. To be honest, this level of difficulty seems like a breeze compared to the initial challenges we faced. I've grown accustomed to it now."
Shortly after, they reached the elevator where Hayato was eagerly waiting and waving at them, specifically at Tsuna while he simply rolled his eyes at his significant other.
'This will definitely be a long night.' Tsuna thought to himself as he followed his two best friends into the elevator.
To those who might be confused, since Gokudera, Yamamoto, and the Sasagawa siblings only have a piece or two of Tsuna's ability and cannot entirely manipulate strings as he does, they do not suffer from the same downside as him. It will be shown more in the upcoming chapters.
