Hisoka x Is x Sneaky
We had been running for only a few minutes before I noticed the fog slowly but surely getting thicker which made it harder to see. I glanced over my shoulder to try and get a glimpse of the people behind us only to tense as I noticed I wasn't able to see them at all now and he was somewhere back there. This isn't good. I continued to run between Gon and Killua as the other two of Gon's friends had fallen behind again but I was more concerned about moving further ahead. My anxiety and nervousness seemed to catch Killua's attention as he looked over his shoulder before looking towards Gon with a simple glance my way.
"Gon," he trailed off, as if not wanting to grab anyone else's attention and continued after Gon gave a questioning hum, "Let's move up."
"Okay," Gon nodded and my shoulders slumped in relief which caught Killua's attention, his brows furrowing in my direction before he turned and faced the front again. "We don't want to lose sight of the examiner," Gon said as if completely understanding the situation.
"I'm more concerned with increasing the distance between us and Hisoka," Killua explained his reasoning and I quickly nodded my head in agreement but kept quiet. I was too worried that if I spoke, I'd somehow become Hisoka's target. "Staying too close to him is dangerous. I can smell it in the air." At that, Gon and I tilted our heads. That was not how I would describe that but okay.
"Smell?" Gon questioned and lifted his head slightly as he seemed to sniff the air. These boys seriously confused me, who in their right mind would think they can actually smell danger? Gon hummed, "I don't think he smells." Killua and I blinked at the boy who turned his head over his shoulder and began to yell, "Leorio! Kurapika! Killua says that we should move up!"
"Hey," Killua sighed as I nervously reached out to Gon, my once dissipating anxiety now coming back hard. "Can't you feel the tension surrounding us?" I would have laughed if the tension he had been mentioning wasn't trying to actively suffocate me at that time.
"Moron!" Leorio yelled in response, "If I had the strength, I'd already be there!"
"Way to make yourself an easy target," I shook my head in exasperation.
"Don't worry about us!" Kurapika yelled, now why couldn't Leorio just say something like that? It doesn't make them sound so weak.
"What?" Gon questioned, concern and slight confusion taking over his features.
"They'll be fine, Gon," I reassured while Killua just picked up the pace.
"Let's go, Gon," Killua demanded, he really didn't care if I followed or not, huh?
"Ah, wait!" Gon called out as he grabbed my hand and dragged me with him as he tried to catch up with Killua.
"Oi, I can match your pace just fine!" I protested as I tried to pull myself free, running beside him but he simply looked at me with a smile.
"I didn't want you to stay behind," he replied and I blinked at him. Why did he think I was gonna do that? He must've caught on to my silent question as he spoke again, "You looked kinda pale and hesitant so I thought that you would stay behind."
"Ah," I nodded in understanding before flashing him a smile, "I'm okay, promise!"
We finally managed to catch up to Killua and continued to run in silence, paying attention to our surroundings and trying to keep an eye on the people in front of us but with how thick the fog was, it was getting increasingly harder to do so. The sounds of screams suddenly began, sounding from all around us. With how sudden they started, I had jumped and whipped my head around in worry that the screams had been one of the boys. Thankfully, it hadn't been and I released a soft sigh before focusing my attention back to the front.
"I hear people screaming all around us," Gon stated to which I deadpanned.
"We can all hear it, Gon," I blinked at him as he blinked back at me before smiling sheepishly but I could still see the worry within his eyes.
"Just stay on your guard," Killua reminded us as he glanced at me from the corner of his eye and I glared back at him. I'm seriously getting annoyed with his sideyes.
"I wonder if Leorio and Kurapika are okay," Gon trailed off and I could practically feel the concern radiating off of him. I went to pat his shoulder in comfort but before I could even lift my hand, the ground below us shook causing me to spread my arms to try and keep my balance and Killua hummed but Gon didn't seem to even notice. Seconds later, the sky was gone and we couldn't see a thing. All I knew was my hand was latched onto someone and it felt very stuffy and smelled gross wherever we were. As I stood there, fearful that if I moved I'd somehow die, I heard someone shuffling around before a soft crack went through the air followed by the sound of a liquid being poured, some of which splattered onto my tan boots and I pouted, I'm sure that would most likely stain.
Not long after, the ground beneath me shifted and we were rocketed out with the boys landing on their feet and I stumbled my landing but managed to keep myself on my feet due to the grip I had on one of them. I looked up to see it had been a giant frog who had eaten us before looking over as I fully realized I was still holding onto them to see it had been Killua who was now staring at me with his brow raised. I ripped my hand away and laughed awkwardly as I turned away from him and towards Gon.
"Guess he didn't like the taste of us," Gon laughed.
"It was this," Killua said as he lifted an orange can, one of the ones Tonpa had given to us in the very beginning of the exams and I was suddenly upset that I had left mine behind. If I knew it was going to be useful, I would've kept it. Damn.
"That was from Tonpa!" Gon smiled, "Guess he saved us."
"Man, that stuffs either really bad or it's got some kind of poison in it," I shivered at the fact that one can had made the frog spit us out that quickly. It barely digested it before throwing us up.
"Well, I could have escaped," Killua boasted and I glared at him, my brow twitching.
"Cocky jerk," I grumbled yet he heard me and simply smirked in my direction.
"I'm still worried about Leorio and Kurapika," Gon stressed, not even noticing the growing annoyance behind him. We blinked at each other before looking at Gon, having just realized how concerned he actually was. We didn't think he'd worry about them this much but maybe we just didn't care about them as much as him.
"Forget about them. Let's get a move on," Killua huffed and turned to begin walking away, not bothering to check if either of us were following, "We can still catch up to the examiner."
I glanced between the two as Killua walked further away from us both and as Gon began to make his way in the opposite direction, I sighed, "Sorry, Gon. I really don't feel like failing this." I turned and ran in the direction that Killua went, quickly catching up to him. I followed behind him the rest of the time, remaining quiet as I felt it would be awkward between us without Gon.
"Cool, we've caught up to the main group, Gon," Killua spoke as he turned to see only me, "Huh? Where'd he go?"
"He, uh, he went to find Kurapika and Leorio, I'd assume," I mentioned and sweat began to form along my forehead.
Killua kissed his teeth before looking forward again, "At least you're smart enough to not turn back."
"Thanks, I think?" I said and we continued in complete silence until we finally reached our destination where we walked around the group of people together in search of Gon.
"Did you find him yet?" he asked and I shook my head with a slight sigh.
"I don't think he made it yet," I spoke and turned to look at him as he sighed and slumped his shoulders.
"Maybe," he muttered to himself and I softly smiled.
"You care about him already?" I teased though I meant it genuinely. It was kind of sweet.
"No, shut up already and keep looking," Killua grumbled as he slumped forward and shoved his hands in his pockets.
"Fine," I groaned out and dropped my head back, "Though, we both know he's not here yet so why not just wait closer to the wetlands instead of this wall?" I pointed to the wall behind us as I stared at it with my head still thrown back so my front was still facing Killua who I heard stop walking.
"I wanted to make sure he hadn't been back here," he explained and I lifted my head with a deadpan expression only to laugh loudly at the pink on his cheeks.
"Aw, are you embarrassed?" I cackled when he jolted, whipping his head in the other direction.
"Just shut up!" he yelled and began to stomp away from me while I followed with chuckles still leaking from my throat.
"Wait," I whined as I half-jogged to catch up to him, "Killua, don't leave me alone." He didn't respond but slowed his steps slightly so I could catch up easier and we made our way towards the front of the forest yet in the middle of the crowd so we could see Gon whenever he made his way back.
"So you do care about him, right?"
"Shut up!"

A shorter chapter this time around, this episode focused on both parts of the main group and thus made it a bit harder for me to write as there really wasn't much going on whenever Killua was around and as my character is stubborn and determined to pass, they were going to continue onward to the finish with Killua no matter what had happened in the chapter. I'm hoping the next chapter will be longer!
