CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR: PRESENT

"Oh, good. I caught you guys before you departed."

Natsu, Gray, Erza, Lucy, and Happy turned to see Shun quickly rushing over. "Hey, Shun. You and Lamia Scale heading back to Margaret?" Gray asked.

"Yeah. I figured I'd stop to say farewell before we left." Shun replied. "But I'll visit Magnolia soon."

"So quick?" Lucy questioned.

"Mila and I have never been to Magnolia before. Besides, I'll be visiting Fairy Tail so often, you'll get sick of me." Shun joked, making everyone smile.

"I don't think so. You're an honorary member, after all. Mila, too." Erza commented.

"That's right!" Lucy agreed.

"Shun, hurry up or you can walk back!" They heard Lyon's voice shout.

"I would rather have that then the train..." Shun mumbled. Natsu hummed in agreement.

Shun then hugged Gray. "I love you, Nii-san." He said.

"Yeah, yeah. Get going before your guild really leaves without you. I'll see you soon." Gray told him.

Shun bids farewell to Fairy Tail before him and Mila rushed off to join their guildmates.

While the Fairy Tail members stopped for a break, Gray pressed his hand to his chest as Wendy walked up to him. "Is something the matter?" She asked.

"Huh?"

"Everyone's talking about what they'll do when they get back home."

"Oh."

"Don't you feel well?" Wendy questioned in concern.

"Oh... No, it's nothin' like that." Gray responded. "When we were fighting the dragons, did you get a weird feeling?"

"Like seeing a vision of the future or something like that?" Wendy asked.

"I think I was hit here..." Gray clenched his chest. "The weird feelin' that I... died won't go away. I can't really explain it, but I've felt this way before."

"Huh?"

"Come to think of it, I guess I haven't told you yet. About what happened when I was a kid..." Gray continued. "Deliora, a demon from the Books of Zeref, attacked my hometown. It murdered my family and just about killed me. Ur saved me then. She taught me Ice-Make Magic. Ur saved my life twice. I don't have grounds to believe it. It just seems similar. When I had the feeling that I saw a vision of my death, it felt strangely... Yeah... strangely warm."

"Warm?" Wendy repeated.

"Sorry. I'm bending your ear with nonsense." Gray apologized.

"Not at all!"

"Lamia Scale's Lyon was also Ur's disciple. And Ultear from Crime Sorciere is Ur's daughter. That reminds me. Whatever happened to Ultear? When the dragons attacked, I wonder if she was fighting somewhere, too."

"About your family... It must be nice to have Shun-san back." Wendy spoke up, getting Gray's attention.

"Yeah. Apparently he had fallen unconscious after Deliora struck our hometown."

Wendy clasped her hands together. "And he's a Dragon Slayer!" She spoke in awe.

"He did become an amazing wizard." Gray chuckled before narrowing his eyes.

"When I look at you Gray, all I see is you stabbing Shun with an icicle, and mocking him as he was bleeding out. One year from now... You become a Dark Mage and kill your own brother. I came back to the past to kill you in this time to prevent that from ever happening."

Gray clenched his fist as he recalled Future Lyon's words.

He wasn't going to kill Shun, not when he had just got him back after years of thinking it was his fault he was killed.

Shun was laying on Lyon's lap as Lyon ran his fingers through his hair, making him feel at ease.

"It's about time you two finally got together." Yuka spoke up as Toby howled in agreement.

"Did everyone know Shun liked me?" Lyon asked in surprise.

"Yes." His guildmates, including Jura, replied.

"I really am an idiot..." Lyon mumbled, looking down at Shun.

"Silver is Shun and Gray's biological father. He's an okay guy. But his personality changes drastically when Shun and Gray are involved."

Lyon tensed as he remembered what his future self said. "You seem like you want to ask me something." Shun spoke up, getting Lyon's attention as Shun opened his eyes. "What is it?"

"I hope I'm not overstepping... But do you remember anything about your father?"

"Valkoinen? Of course I remember him."

"I'm not talking about Valkoinen. I meant your biological father. The one that died in Deliora's attack."

Shun flinched before he sighed. "I don't have much memories of him. What I do remember is I was a daddy's boy. Guess that's why I was so close with Valkoinen."

"Really? I always thought that was Gray." Lyon admitted.

"He was more of a mama's boy. But our father loved us equally. He always stopped us when Gray and I got into petty arguments."

Lyon thinks back to his own childhood and training with Ur. "I guess that explains why he would always pause randomly whenever we got into arguments." He said.

"Hm?"

"Gray and I used to argue sometimes. There would be these... random moments when he would stop and go all quiet. Then just ignore me completely. I used to get agitated about it. But now, it makes sense." Lyon said.

Shun just hummed before falling into a deep sleep for the rest of the train ride back to Margaret Town.

Shun and Mila had entered the Fairy Tail Guild Hall as Shun looked around for his twin.

"Oh, Shun. Didn't know you were visiting."

Shun looked over and saw Gray with Erza, Wendy, and Carla.

"Going on a job, Nii-san?" Shun asked.

"Yeah. With Erza, Wendy, and Carla." Gray replied.

"Want to accompany us, Shun-san?" Wendy offered.

Shun smiled, patting Wendy on the head. "Sure. What's the request?"

"Capture some gold thieves." Erza answered.

"My speciality." Shun joked.

"Natsu, Lucy, Happy!" Erza called out. Lucy turned to see Erza, Gray, Wendy, and Carla. With them were Shun and Mila.

"What are you guys doing down there?" Wendy asked.

"Playing in the mud?" Gray teased.

"Guys! Shun and Mila, too!" Lucy exclaimed.

Soon enough, everyone had gathered on the rooftop. "I see. Then we'll give you a hand." Erza said once Natsu, Lucy, and Happy explained.

"Although we'll take our share of the reward." Gray said.

"I suppose Mila and I will help out, as well. Lyon already knows I went on a job with Gray. Don't mind the money though. We're not from your guild, so it doesn't seem right to take it." Shun added.

"Yay! With Erza and Gray on our side, that mole doesn't stand a chance!" Happy said.

"Is that even really a mole?" Lucy asked.

"Who knows? So you guys are on your way back from a job?" Natsu questioned.

"Yes. We rid a town of bandits just by staying there." Wendy responded.

"While you guys are having a hard time with a mole. That's not worthy of the reputation of the guild that won the Grand Magic Games." Gray taunted as Shun sighed.

"Shut up! If you're gonna stand there and jaw, get lost!" Natsu shouted with fire coming from his mouth.

"Is that any way to talk to a guy who offered to help?!" Gray exclaimed.

"I didn't ask for your damn help!" Natsu fired back.

"Don't fight!" Erza scolded.

"Okay..."

"But with mud this deep, you can't tell where the mole is hiding, right?" Wendy asked.

"No problem. I have a good idea." Lucy pulled out a silver gate key. "Gate of the Clock, I open thee! Horologium!"

Horologium soon appeared from the gate. "It has indeed been a long time, everyone." He greeted.

Happy and Carla lowered Horologium — who was carrying Natsu — towards the mud.

"Natsu, we're gonna lower you down." Happy informed.

"We'll do it slowly and carefully." Carla added.

"'I'm lookin' forward to this!' he said." Horologium spoke for Natsu. "However, I myself am quite nervous about it."

"I'm sure it's tough, but please do your best." Wendy said.

"I'll wash you off later." Lucy promised as Horologium went into the mud.

The ropes began shaking. "There's a ruckus below!" Happy informed.

"Don't let go!" Carla said.

Erza, Gray, Wendy, Lucy, Shun, and Mila were on a boat nearby. "It's begun..." Erza stated.

"Where's it gonna come up?" Gray wondered.

The mole suddenly appeared from the mud. "He brought it up!" Happy cheered as Natsu flew out of Horologium, the both of them landing on a tree.

"Let's go! Everyone, attack it together!" Erza ordered.

"Sky Dragon's Roar!"

"Ice Dragon's Roar!"

"Ice-Make: Lance!"

"Fire Dragon's Roar!"

The four attacks headed for the mole, who dived under the mud before it could hit.

"Where'd it go?!" Gray questioned.

The mole attacked the boat as Mila quickly acted, sprouting her wings and catching Shun on time.

"Nice save, Mila!" Shun complimented. "Are you guys okay?!"

Natsu had tried to attack the mole, but it dived once again in the mud, making him crash heads with Gray.

"That hurt, you jackass!" Gray shouted, grabbing Natsu's collar.

"You shouldn't have been here!" Natsu fired back.

"I guess there's your answer, Shun." Mila said while Shun sweat dropped.

"This is no time to fight!" Wendy said as Mila flew down next to them, still carrying Shun.

"Where's the mole?" Erza asked as the mole appeared behind them. They all screamed before swimming away.

"Put simply, we just need a high place, right?" Gray questioned, creating an ice mountain. "Climb up, everyone!"

"I can't! It's too slippery!" Wendy said.

Lucy extended her hand. "Grab hold, Wendy!"

Mila landed Shun on the icy floor. "You saved me!" Wendy said.

"It's so cold! My butt's freezing!" Lucy complained.

"Beggars can't be choosers!" Gray told her.

"My ice is actually much colder than this, so be thankful." Shun added.

"Where's it gonna come up next?" Natsu wondered.

"If it takes the bait and comes up here, we can ambush it, but..." Erza started to say.

"Be careful, everyone!" Happy warned.

"It's right below you! Directly below!" Carla said.

"Watch out!" Mila added.

Everyone looked down to see the mole below the ice. "It's there?!" Lucy exclaimed.

"Fire Dragon's Iron Fist!" Natsu punched the ice with a flaming fist, causing the ice to evaporate, causing them to fall back in the mud and Mila caught Shun once more.

"Think before you punch!" Gray scolded.

"It was a reflex action!" Natsu defended.

The mole then soon appeared in front of them. It glanced at Lucy. "What? Me again?!" She exclaimed as the mole began chasing her.

Lucy spotted a tree as she climbed up it. The mole made the tree topple over. Lucy used her whip to connect to a branch as she swung over.

"It won't give up!" Lucy shouted with the mole continuing to go after Lucy.

"That looks like fun! I wanna do it, too!" Natsu claimed.

"I'm not playing!" Lucy yelled in irritation.

"Lucy!"

"We'll save you!"

Happy and Carla both carried Lucy, who was in tears. Before the three of them ended up getting knocked by the mole while the others tried to attack it again.

"Fire Dragon's Roar!"

"Ice Dragon's Roar!"

"Ice-Make: Lance!"

"Sky Dragon's Roar!"

The four attacks once again, headed for the mole. "Hey, are you all right?" Natsu asked.

"I'm not at all all right." Lucy replied, tears streaming down her face.

"I've got grit in my mouth." Happy said, also having tears streaming down his face.

"I hate this. Why is it only chasing me?" Lucy questioned.

The group returned to the mayor for more information. "It's a long story, but that mole was originally a villager's pet." He said.

"Pet?!"

"At the time, it was still a tiny, cute thing, but the owner suddenly moved far away and had to leave the mole behind here. The mole thought its owner had abandoned it, and turned bad. It ran away from the village, turned wild, and grew to a giant size along the way. And now the mole seeks revenge on humans."

"So that's what happened..." Gray muttered.

"The mole is making a point." Lucy said.

"Now that I know the circumstances, I feel sorry for it." Wendy claimed.

"Still, why does it keep chasing Lucy specifically?" Erza wondered.

"It's mole mating season now. The season of love. I'm sure it's attracted to Lucy-san, as she's a young woman." The mayor replied.

"In other words, it wants to marry Lucy!" Happy exclaimed.

"Actually, it wants Lucy to be its mate." Shun corrected.

"Don't joke about that!" Lucy scolded.

"I'm a young woman, too. Why doesn't the mole come after me?" Erza questioned.

"You're wearing armor, Erza-san. It probably can't tell your gender."

"Um, I'm a young woman, too..." Wendy pointed out.

"It seems that mole has a preference for women with a large bust. So it wouldn't..."

Wendy exclaims in shock as she is in tears.

"But if that's the case, we can come up with a strategy." Carla informed.

"Yeah, there's a way to lure the mole out." Happy agreed.

"Stare..." Everyone eyes Lucy, who looks at them.

"What do you mean?" Lucy asked.

Lucy was on a boat in a wedding gown. "This is what they meant..." Lucy muttered while the others were on a rooftop.

"Lucy-san is beautiful!" Wendy complimented.

"I'm sure the mole will be pleased, too, and come right out." Erza claimed.

"Lucy, how about if we take a commemorative photo?" Happy suggested.

"You'd better not!" Lucy declined as the mole soon arrived.

"There it is!" Natsu exclaimed.

"Gate of the Virgin, I open thee! Virgo!" Lucy called out as Virgo appeared.

"Please tell me what to do, Princess." Virgo said, before dropping into the mud. "I'd actually like to go home and take a shower..."

"You just got here!" Lucy said.

The mole charged forward angrily. "Virgo, get that mole out of the mud! You're good at digging in the dirt, right?" Lucy asked.

"Understood, but first I'll take you to a safer place, Princess." Virgo grabs Lucy and drags her through the mud.

"This isn't safe at all!"

The mole chased after them. "That thing's fast for its size!" Natsu pointed out.

"It's keeping up with Virgo!" Happy added.

"Impressive!" Erza praised.

"Worry about me a little!" Lucy shouted.

"This way, Princess."

Virgo throws Lucy on a slab of rock. "Virgo, be careful!" Lucy warned.

"Now it's my turn to attack." Virgo claimed, diving underneath the mud.

The mole soon flew up into the air. "Now, everyone!" Lucy called out.

"Fire Dragon's Roar!"

"Sky Dragon's Roar!"

"Ice Dragon's Roar!"

"Ice-Make: Lance!"

This time, the attacks struck the mole, causing an explosion. "Go, Erza!" Natsu called out.

"I'll finish it off!" Erza exclaimed as she struck the mole with her hammer. The mole crashed onto the grass. "I struck with the back of my sword. It isn't injured."

"That's not really a sword... but whatever."

The mole was now caught in a net. "Well, now that we've captured it, what do we do with it?" Erza questioned.

"It's the owner's fault for abandoning the mole." Wendy said.

"Although if we let it go, it'll cause more trouble." Carla informed.

"Hey, mole, you want a bride that badly?" Natsu asked as the mole nodded its head.

"But I'm human. We can't get married. You understand that, don't you?" Lucy questioned.

"Princess, I'm back." Virgo said, appearing on top of another creature.

"Virgo!"

"What is that creature?" Happy asked.

"I searched underground and found a female mole. I thought having a companion would soothe it enough to stop harassing the village." Virgo explained.

"That's not a mole, or even the same species..." Lucy mumbled as both creatures had heart eyes.

"Oh! It looks like they'll get along!" Erza said as the mole broke out of the net, causing everyone to be in shock as they were being dragged along.

"I'm happy that I could be of use to you, Princess." Virgo commented as the group flew into the mud.

"I'm not happy!" Lucy shouted.
