Chapter Four: Clubbin'
A week had passed when Alessia sighed while laying on her bed. Kuvira was out doing her duties before coming back. She had finished her homework already before changing into her gym clothes. She agreed to practice dance with Kuvira since teaching the routine actually helps one remember it.
"Hey. Sorry I'm late. Ran into one of the dance girls and she asked if we wanted to go to the club tonight?" Kuvira asked as she came into their dorm room and quickly changed.
"For you to go to the club?" Alessia asked with a confused look.
"No. You as well. They like you." Kuvira smirked. All week the dance team had been pestering Alessia to join in and dance with them. Feeling like she made friends without putting the work in.
"I don't have a decent club outfit." Alessia frowned while putting her class books back into her bag.
"Well, let's cross that bridge once we are done with practice." Her friend smiled before fixing up her hair. Alessia had finally learned to do the braid and was constantly doing not only her hair but Kuvira's as well when they were in a hurry. Though, she only trusted Kuvira to touch her hair. They had finished in their room and left. Locking the door before following her raven haired friend.
"I wanna warm up before dancing." Alessia spoke as she sat down on the floor to stretch her legs.
"Wanna run a couple before then?" Her friend asked with a smile.
"Yeah! You're on!" She jumped up with a small laugh before standing by the edge of the bleachers.
"Okay, ready? Go!" Kuvira started ahead.
"Hey! You dirty player!" Alessia shouted as she sprinted after Kuvira.
"Get better!" Kuvira laughed while looking over her shoulders.
"Oh yeah?" Alessia had caught up.
"Hey! What the?" Alessia had run past her and slowed down after the lap. "How are you so fast?" They pant to catch up their breaths before running a couple more laps to get the energy going.
"When it's cold out and you have to outrun a blizzard before it hits." Alessia spoke as she started to stretch again.
"You are gonna have to tell me that story someday." Kuvira spoke as she got the music going. Alessia bounced a little bit to get her energy going again. They got lost in the music while smiling at each other.
"Come on dears! Chests out, I wanna see that energy! Smile! Show those beautiful faces!" Su's voice called as she was sitting on the bleachers watching. Alessia blushed and smiled at Kuvira before showing off the routine she had mastered in only a few days.
"Whew!" Alessia had finished while laying on the gym floor.
"That's dirty." Kuvira threw a towel at her.
"I'll shower before we leave okay?" Standing back up and wiped the sweat off. They had been dancing for hours and Kuvira had the routine down perfectly. Alessia still had a few kinks to work out but then again, she wasn't on the team.
"You ladies heading out?" Su asked while smiling at them.
"Yes, the team wanted to do some freestyle at the club and invited Alessia along." Kuvira explained as Alessia nodded at her friend.
"Another reason to audition to join." Su smirked at Alessia who only shrugged.
"I'm going to go shower." She pointed at her friend before taking her leave before stopping as she almost smacked right into someone.
"Sorry, are you Alessia?" The guy asked as she nodded. "Here, this is for you. Your new uniforms arrive on Monday." He handed her an envelope. He bowed to her then left.
"What's that?" Kuvira asked while looking over her shoulder.
"I think it's the results from the test that Professor Su ordered." Alessia spoke as she opened it up. Su walked over as she was curious as well.
"Well?!" Kuvira asked as she got impatient.
"Hum." Alessia was now smiling as she looked up to the other two women. They seemed to be getting impatient. "I was born in Zaofu!" Alessia beamed. "Father left Ba Sing Se. So definitely from the earth nation!"
"That's wonderful news dear!" Su spoke while giving Alessia a hug. She was yet again tense at it before returning a side hug. "Alright! Now shower time! Bye!" Alessia waved before jogging out of the gym.
"Get her to join dear. You two are amazing together." Su's voice was low enough for only Kuvira to hear.
"Why don't you? She's stubborn." Kuvira spoke lightly back. Noticing her friend was gone.
"Light them up, up, up! Light them up, up, up!" Alessia was singing in the shower. Not hearing Kuvira finally coming back into the room.
"Oh shut up!" Kuvira shouted while laughing.
"I'm sorry, does my singing offend you?" Alessia asked while stepping out. She had a robe on while drying her hair.
"No. Just teasing. You're not bad actually." Kuvira spoke before she went into the shower. Alessia had quickly changed into a light green tank top, dark green shorts and sandals. It was nice outside so why not? Brushing her hair while letting it air dry. Her friend had finished and changed.
"Spirits, your hair is so long." Kuvira eyed Alessia's hair.
"Should I cut it?" She asked her friend while she was braiding it up.
"No. It's beautiful." Kuvira spoke while doing her own hair. Her friend however wore more of a t-shirt and shorts. Sneakers.
"Ready?" Alessia asked while pocketing her wallet as Kuvira nodded. They left the room and locked it.
They made it downtown of the city. There seemed to be less people at the moment.
"This area feels weird." Alessia spoke from the silence.
"Yeah, I think we should head back up. I have a bad feeling." Kuvira spoke just in time for them to jump to the side as cars began screeching down the road. "We should go!" Kuvira shouted as Alessia nodded. The two began to run back where they came from.
"That was close." Alessia sighed while opening a door to a shop. Kuvira nodded while following inside. "Huh. These are cute." She added while wrapping a green scarf around her neck with a smile.
"Yeah, for winter. It's hot as balls out." Her friend gave a serious look. Alessia snorted before laughing as her friend joined in. Alessia tossed a scarf over her friend's head onto her neck and pulled her close.
"Looks cute on you." She winked and that earned her a shove. She laughed lightly as Kuvira rolled her eyes.
"Come on. Let's find you something. I might get myself a new outfit too." Kuvira was smiling lightly and got lost in thought. Alessia couldn't help but notice this. Her friend had a look. Alessia had never seen this look on her friend but saw it on her mother. Her friend is in love! She nudged her friend with a cheesy smile while holding a shirt.
"Yeah?" It was a dark green shirt with a heart on her shoulder.
"I'm not a water tribe." Kuvira laughed.
"What do you mean?
"They wear their hearts on their sleeves."
"This ain't a water tribe shirt!" Alessia laughed while putting it back. She pulled out a simple dark green dress shirt. The arms were open and flowy.
"Yes." Her friend nodded and pulled out a pair of short black shorts. Handing it to Alessia who went to try it on. "Now that is cute. Here." Kuvira spoke and handed Alessia a brown belt to go with it. Nodding her head, she went back to change.
"Definitely my outfit!" Alessia smiled. Kuvira picked one out similar but the shorts were dark green.
"Shoes?" Kuvira asked.
"I'm wearing these sandals. They match." Alessia smiled while she paid for her new outfit. Adding a long green glitter but silky scarf to it. They linked arms before heading out of the store and back.
"Come on! Let me see!" Her friend spoke as Alessia came from the bathroom and showed her outfit. "Okay, the scarf stays! Hair up or down?"
"Down. You?" Alessia answered.
"Definitely up. I can't stand it down." Kuvira spoke as she put her hair up in a low bun but had braids on the sides.
"I'll have a tie on me just in case." Alessia tucked the tie into the short pockets. She brushed her hair again to make sure it was straight but her hair kept curling up a little. She sat down to put her sandals back on and smiled. She could feel the earth from the bottom of them.
"Come, we have a few minutes before it opens." Kuvira smiled while finishing her eye liner. Alessia had never used any make up of any kind and she was always curious about it. "What?"
"You look beautiful my friend." Alessia smiled. Noticing the blush. "Impressing anyone?" She teased. It earned her another shove before they left their dorm again. She checked her pockets to make sure she had everything. Her I.D, student I.D and what not. Smiling at her friend before following.
They had entered a new club called the 'Dancing Dragon.' The music was so loud, it was vibrating off of the floor and walls. Alessia had to hold onto her friend's arm to keep herself from causing an earthquake. There were neon lights flashing. You wouldn't be able to tell if someone was bad or good at dancing. They were just having fun.
"Why is it so loud?" Alessia felt like she was screaming.
"That's the point! It's to let loose and dance!" Kuvira smiled while pulling Alessia to the center. She stood there watching her friend as she was dancing. She couldn't help but notice a couple professors were there as well.
"So students are breaking university rules." Kuvira explained as Alessia nodded. "Come on! Loosen up!" She felt her friend's hands on her hips and tried to get her to dance. She raised a brow with a small smile before deciding to give it a try. "Yes! There you go!" Her friend laughed as one of the dancers came up to join.
"This is Jay-lee!" Kuvira introduced the girl who shook Alessia's hand before going back to dance. She was finally having fun while dancing with Kuvira and a couple of the other dancers. She could feel eyes on her. She looked over her shoulder and sure enough, it was the Beifong professors. Su smiled and winked at her while Lin had her arms crossed. Staring right at them. Alessia quickly turned to Kuvira.
"Say, let's get something to drink." She spoke while dragging her friend away to a table in the corner.
"What's up?" Kuvira asked while drinking a light blue drink she had ordered.
"Um. I just ran out of breath haha." Alessia laughed lightly.
"Alessia!" Korra's voice was clear over the music. Her sister made her way over to the table with Asami, Mako, and Bolin.
"Oh hi!" Alessia smiled weakly as did her friend.
"Didn't know you were a club going person." Korra sat down and hugged her sister.
"I'm not. First time. Got dragged out." She nudged her friend with a smile.
"Huh what?" Kuvira was eyeing someone before turning to look at the others. Alessia followed the trail and saw Su was smiling before turning away to talk to the other professors. Alessia raised a brow at her friend before pushing the thoughts away.
"Say, what do you think about the name: Fire Ferrets?" Bolin loudly spoke with his arms raised.
"For what?"Alessia asked with a confused look.
"Were you not listening?" Korra sighed while shaking her head. "We wanna start a pro bending team! You as a substitute!" Korra added as Alessia nodded her head.
"Oh! Are we allowed?" She looked at Kuvira who nodded.
"Yeah, but you won't be able to join in the tournaments." She added as they all nodded.
"Well, in that case, sure!" Alessia shrugged.
"Woo!" Korra hugged her sister.
"Stop! No hugs. Stop!" Alessia squirmed out of her sister's arms.
"You were never the one for hugs." Korra laughed, slapping her sister's shoulder before leaving. Feeling herself move forward a little due to the force.
"Come on, let's go dance again!" Kuvira nudged Alessia out of her seat.
"Who are you trying to impress?" Alessia teasingly asked her friend while they were back on the dance floor.
"Myself!" Kuvira rolled her eyes with a smirk. Alessia shook her head before grabbing Kuvira's hands and got close to her friend for dancing. Not caring who was watching or not. She was having fun dancing again.
Sighing while laying back down on her bed with a smile before kicking off her sandals.
"Had fun?" Her friend asked as she nodded.
"Yeah. I love dancing. All kinds." Alessia spoke softly. Feeling a pillow hit her. She sat up with a confused look.
"Join us then!" Kuvira spoke in a serious tone.
"I. I can't." Alessia frowned while tossing the pillow back.
"Why not?"
"I. Well I have never been on a team before. Let alone dance in front of any crowd. What if I mess up? What if I mess someone else up?" She was frowning now.
"That's why we practice. Before the big show. We do smaller shows." Kuvira explained as Alessia hugged her knees. She still didn't feel convinced. Seeing her friend sigh with frustration. "Why do you want me to dance so badly?"
"It's because you are good at it! None of the other dancers can get a routine down in a few hours like you! Plus, I kind of wanna do duets with you. I know it sounds selfish but we sync up so well and everything." Her friend explained.
"I guess I'll consider the audition." Alessia gave in.
"Yes!" Kuvira jumped over and hugged her friend. Alessia chuckled lightly before letting go. Watching Kuvira pull out a small weird device.
"What's that?" Alessia raised a brow.
"Oh this? It's a cellular device. It lets you call or text people instead of writing letters. Its instant." Kuvira showed Alessia who looked over at it. "Cell phone for shorter. Haven't you used yours yet?" She asked while explaining.
"My what?" Alessia asked with a confused look.
"Oh my spirits Alessia!" Kuvira laughed while digging through Alessia's desk and pulled out one similar to Kuvira's. A small box was pulled out as Kuvira fumbled with it.
"Here. All students and professors have one just in case." Her friend explained. Alessia took the small phone and looked it over. "Here. My number." Kuvira spoke while typing in a number and adding it to the address book.
"This is genius!" Alessia spoke with a smile. She could annoy her sister now!
"I added Su's number as well. Just in case."
"For what?
"If you join us."
"Alrighty."
"I gave Su your number just in case."
"You what now?"
"Just. In. Case."
"Fine! I'm going to sleep now. Thank you for tonight. I really needed that." Alessia smiled while setting her phone on her desk and crawled into bed. "Goodnight.
"Sleep well. I'll follow here in a minute." Kuvira spoke as she finished typing on her phone and sat it down before crashing on her bed.
