Chapter 31

Slipping into Grand Central and now pressed against the wall, taking in the situation from his hidden perch.

'There's a lot of them, this is the entirety of what remains of the Demon gang.' Spidey noted. 'Mr. Negative is here too...and a bomb, this isn't going to be easy, gotta get the hostages out, but first…'

He paused, his worries mounting as he recognized a small group of the hostages, the Party, or at least, most of them.

'Where's Mike?'

Shaking his head he knew he had to focus and so he carefully made his way along the wall until he reached a perch that gave him a good overlook of the southern walkway where two Demons were patrolling. He tensed, he knew he had to time this right and, waiting for the exact moment he struck. He pulled one of the Demons up with his webs and quickly cocooned the man in webs before yanking himself over to another perch before the second Demon reached it and quickly did the same to him, two of them were down. He looked down and saw that the Party had noticed this and were clearly waiting for a chance. But there was still one Demon sticking near them and would react unless he did something quickly. Getting an idea, he moved to another perch and shot a web at the ground, catching the attention of the Demon. He readied his gun and approached the spot the web had hit only to meet the same fate as his two allies. This gave the Party the opening they needed and they crept away, up the stairs and took cover behind the balcony's edge.

Spider-Man dropped down and joined them.

"Well, that was close, but you guys are okay now?" Spider-Man queried.

They nodded and Dustin spoke up. "We can't leave yet, those other hostages, the bomb…"

"Our friend Mike is also in the bathroom, over there." Max added.

Spider-Man nodded. "Alright, I'll take care this, you guys keep low, I'll clear a path around to the front entrance, you guys secure it and I'll clear a path for the hostages, just get them out and leave the rest to me. The bathroom's in that direction so we'll get Mike along the way."

They nodded and waited for their chance, moving when it was safe until they were now waiting behind a corner, two Demons stood in their way, just like the current balcony. Another two guarded the main entrance. Another two stood by the entrance to the stations along with Mr. Negative and four remained guarding the hostages and bomb. What none of the Party of Spider-Man knew was that Mike was in fact already aware of the situation. He had looked out of the bathroom, about to leave it when he saw the Demons entering and so had taken cover. He was aware of the Demons outside but was waiting for a chance, he had to take one or things would get out of hand. That was when he heard something. He knew of only one thing he could do, grabbing a nearby fire extinguisher that he had pulled into the room with him when he first saw the Demons entering.

The door opened and one of the patrolling Demons stepped in, only for Mike to swing for the face and knock him out cold. That was when he heard the familiar sound of webs and turned to see Spider-Man had webbed up the other Demon before dropping down next to him and sticking the knocked out Demon to the floor with webs.

"Nice move, Mike." Spider-Man remarked.

Mike let out a sigh of relief. "Spider-Man, what…?"

"Mike." Lucas gasped.

He turned to see all his friends approaching, crouching down and soon they were gathered, out of view.

"It's a good thing we caught you before things got out of hand." Spider-Man said.

Suzie then added. "Listen, Spider-Man is clearing a path, once he sets things up for the hostages to go free, we'll open the doors, we're moving around there right now."

"Then...then what?" Mike asked.

"I'll have to figure something out, stop Mr. Negative, disarm the bomb."

That startled Mike, but there was no time as they were soon moving and already set up, waiting for Spider-Man to secure the exit. Once he reached the perch he quickly secured the first Demon before making his way over and doing the same to the last one, that was when the others reached their final post, ready to get to the doors and open them, they also noted the police cars surrounding the outside and knew the police were had arrived and were likely trying to make contact and defuse the situation, no doubt Mr. Negative had told them about the bomb.

Now it was time to take the fight to the Demons, he had to distract them and ensure they couldn't set off the bomb, especially not with the hostages still present. Seeing the biggest danger and his biggest chance, Spider-Man swung down into the main area of Grand Central and used his webs to pull the detonator from Mr. Negative's hand and destroy it.

"I don't think so!" He cried as he landed.

"Spider-Man, you just can't stay away, can you!" Mr. Negative snarled. "Well no matter, now you've just activated the timer. Get him!"

With that the Demons turned their full attention to the costumed hero while Mr. Negative fled through the doors to the stations.

"Everyone c'mon, get outta here, now!" Dustin's voice called out.

Too focused on Spider-Man, the Demons had no chance to stop the hostages from escaping through the now open front doors, much to the shock and then relief of the police. Spider-Man was already too busy attacking and beating down the six remaining Demons, the Party escaped too, except for one. Unable to stop himself, desperate to do something and hoping this would work, Mike ducked down and weaved between the escaping crowd and, avoiding the view of Spider-Man and the Demons, he reached the bomb. As he'd expected, it had been made with stolen Oscorp technology, the stuff stolen from the time Mr. Negative had fought Spider-Man and the Green Goblin that night at Oscorp.

'That means I know this device, which means...I just hope this works.' Mike recollected.

With a deep breath he picked up the bomb and, following one of the wires to its source, he took a hold of it and pulled it loose.

The beeping stopped, Mike looked, the timer was frozen, then the screen went blank, Mike put the bomb down in relief, it was disarmed.

"Mike, what the-!"?

He looked up to see Spider-Man standing there, the Demons all defeated around him.

Mike gave a weak smile. "S-Sorry, but I wanted to help and...and I did it, the bomb is disarmed."

Spider-Man shook his head. "That was way too risky...but, good job, now get outta here quickly, let the police know, if he's there, make sure you tell all this to Chief Hopper. I'm going after Mr. Negative."

Mike nodded and finally hurried out while Spider-Man hurried through the doors to the stations and swung down to the middle station where Mr. Negative stood, sword at the ready.

"I should've known you'd meddle." He snapped. "Well, you may have stopped me here, but I'll just put you out of my misery and start all over again, I've done it before."

Spider-Man shook his head. "No, you've not, Mr. Creel, you need to stop this, you're not starting over, you're falling deeper."

"Silence you fool, you know nothing about me!" Negative yelled.

Spider-Man sighed. "I know you're lesser no than you've ever been."

It was then they both got ready, time for them to fight to end this.
