So, I decided to binge-watch FBI again (yes, I binge-watch shows fast when I have nothing else to do) and this episode is really stuck in my head. I don't know if it's because I only started watching the show after Rookie Blue and fell in love with Missy or if it's just another show I fell in love with in general, but either way, I needed to write my take on this episode. I'm sure any FBI fan is familiar with Season 4 Episode 18. Tragic episode and I'm about to make it even worse. Apologies in advance.

What if it was Isobel who was in the hospital making the speech in Maggie's room?

Chapter One

Maggie was clearing a lab on the second floor while OA was on the first floor, clearing the second lab when he heard Maggie scream. "NO!"

OA froze, waiting to hear what would come next when he heard Jubal over the comms telling Maggie to get out. OA turned around and ran out of the room, and up the stairs, watching for the IED Maggie said was planted on the stairs and to the lab his partner was trapped in.

"Maggie!" OA called out, seeing his partner helpless on the other side of the glass.

"OA? I can't open the door. Please. There's gotta be, like, a button. If there's anything, please open this door." Maggie begged, panicking.

"I'm trying. I'm trying." OA told her. Searching for a button around the door.

"Please. Please. Come on." Maggie continued to beg.

"It's sealed. Okay, listen. I need you to find something to cover your mouth, okay?" OA told her, "A mask, anything."

Back in the JOC, everyone was watching the feed, all nervous for Maggie when her camera feed died, "Oh, my god." Isobel said, worried for her agent.

While Maggie was searching through all the drawers for anything that could cover her face OA grabbed a chair from behind him and hit the glass a couple of times before throwing the chair down and pulling out his gun, "Stay away from the door!" OA told Maggie as she covered her mouth with her sweater and watched him shoot the glass five times. Maggie continued to pant, uncovering her mouth, eyes widening, OA's widening too. A hopeless feeling overcame him. OA panted after he was finished firing. "It's not—" OA was speechless, starting to lose hope.

"OA. OA, come on." Maggie pleaded.

"It's not gonna go. Maggie, it's not gonna go."

Maggie went up to the glass, voice breaking, "OA, please, you've gotta get me out of here."

OA could see that Maggie was losing control and that she was starting to show the effects of the deadly gas. "Maggie, I need you to slow your breathing. Okay? Slow your breathing."

Maggie had tears in her eyes, "Come on. You've gotta find a way." Maggie begged. "Please, get me out of here!" Maggie yelled and then turned away, tears starting to fall.

"No, no. Stay with me. SWAT is on the way. Okay?" Maggie doesn't say anything but just looks around the room.

"Oh, my god." That was all she was able to say.

"Hey, hey." OA gets Maggie to focus on him, looking each other in the eyes. "Right here, okay? Slow your breathing."

Maggie looks at him, not being able to do anything else, "OA?"

"I need you to slow your breathing." OA looked her in the eyes, watching her.

"I can't really breathe anymore." Maggie barely got out.

"No, no, no, no, no. Stay with me." OA panicked.

"OA" Maggie choked out.

"Stay with me. Hey. Hey, stay with me!" OA begged.

Maggie was sliding down the wall, becoming weaker. "I can't really breathe." Her breathing became shaky. "Please." Maggie choked out, pressing a hand against the glass, begging OA to get her out, to save her. "I'm sorry. I should've waited."

OA continued to bang on the glass desperately. "No, no," he begged as she fell to the floor.

"OA" Maggie sobbed.

"No, no!" OA yelled, refusing to give up. "No, Maggie!"

Maggie looked in front of her, unable to look up at OA anymore and continued to gasp, lungs closing, unable to breathe in or out, and her eyes slowly closed, feeling the full effects of the deadly gas. OA watched Maggie go unconscious, her head turned, dropping, and facing away.

"Maggie!" OA yelled, banging on the glass. Realizing she had taken in the full effects of the virus.

Back in the JOC everyone was rushing around, trying to figure out a solution.

"OA, you've gotta find something heavy enough to break that glass," Jubal said over the comms.

Isobel's heart started to race, "Find me a doctor, an expert in Sarin gas now." Isobel shouted over her shoulder to Ian and Kelly.

"How far is SWAT?" OA asked over the comms.

Jubal turned to look at Elise, "Approximately eight miles away."

"Okay, OA, SWAT is still 10 minutes out with protective gear. We also have local police and ERT on the way. Keep looking." Jubal told him.

"She does not have 10 minutes. I have to breach now."

Isobel shakes her head, "No, I understand, but we've gotta have a plan first. We are tracking down a specialist as we speak." She told him.

"Where are we, Kelly?" Jubal asked, turning around.

"Yeah, I got a biologist coming down from the lab, a former medical doctor."

Jubal nods, "Meet them at the elevator. Go." Jubal told him, watching him scramble out of the room.

"You need to find something to break that glass, OA," Jubal told him while he and Isobel looked on, both concerned, Isobel's eyes filling with tears.

As Kelly and the biologist were coming into the room Jubal began to tell her what was going on. "All right, we have an agent who's been exposed to sarin gas. She's unconscious."

"How long has she-" The doctor began to ask before getting cut off.

"Three minutes ago," Jubal answered.

"We need to get her out of there now." The doctor told them, stating the obvious. "She needs fresh air. We don't have much time."

"We have an agent at the scene, but he does not have protective gear," Isobel told her, barely holding it together.

"Let me talk to him." The doctor looked at Isobel.

"OA, listen up." Isobel pushed the intercom button, trying to keep her own breathing under control.

"This is Doctor Hollander. You need to find some sort of PPE, a shield, a proper surgical mask." She listed off, uselessly considering where OA was.

"I'm in an empty building. There are not a lot of options." OA told her, "I'm going in now. I need two minutes, max."

"No, you need protection. Two minutes is too long." Hollander told him.

"She's going to die, doctor!" OA shouted, Grabbing a fire extinguisher. overwhelmed with the thought of possibly losing his partner and best friend.

"I know. But if you go in without a mask, you'll die too. The only chance you have to help her, to save her is finding some kind of protective gear. Anything that covers your eyes, nose, and mouth." The doctor told him. Isobel listened to her talking and started to lose her cool again.

"Damnit!" OA shouted, not being able to find anything.

"The lab self-sealed because of the leak. If you breach a window significantly enough and fresh air is introduced, there's a chance the look with probably disengage."

"What do you mean, "probably"?" OA asked, continuing to rummage through cupboards and drawers.

The doctor raised a hand, "Just being honest", she said aloud, looking at Isobel, not noticing how torn up she appeared to be.

"You still have those antidote needles, OA?" Jubal asked, looking at the screen in the JOC.

OA reaches into his back pocket, "Yes, two."

"Great. Just to be sure to use 'em the second you're outside." Hollander told him.

"Should I inject myself before I go in?" OA asked, still rushing to find a mask that he could use to get into the sealed, sarin-gas-filled room.

"Negative. If you use the syringe before the onset of symptoms, it will be ineffective." The doctor told him.

OA continued to rush around the room, "Will a painter's mask do?"

"Yes, it's fine. There's still a risk the gas penetrates the skin. You should cover-"

OA ended up cutting the doctor off again, "Damnit!" he shouted, still looking around the room, knowing that every second that he was away from Maggie, her chances lessened. "I found them, I'm going in," OA told them rushing out of the room, down the hall, picking up the fire extinguisher and running to the room Maggie was sealed in and began banging on the glass with the extinguisher. It took him a few tries to get the glass to break but when he did everyone sucked in their breath, waiting for the door to open.

Jubal was glued to the screen, waiting for Maggie and OA to get out of the building. Ian, Kelly, and Elise were all worried for their friend, knowing she needed to get out of there minutes ago, prepared that they may have lost Maggie for good if the sarin gas killed her. And then there was the SAC of the JOC. Isobel was overflowing with concern, tears started to well up in her eyes and she felt like she couldn't breathe until she knew her agent, her friend, the woman she secretly loved would be okay.

When Isobel heard the door unseal, she bent down and lost control for a minute and bent over and rested her hands on her thighs, letting a few tears fall. She wiped the tears away as quickly as she could and stood back up. She watched OA lift Maggie up and rush out of the building. She saw him insert the antidote into Maggie's thigh, watching as nothing happened while he inserted himself with the second antidote he had and gasped.

OA watched as the paramedics put a facemask over Maggie's face and as they rushed her into the ambulance.

Isobel rushed from the JOC into the hospital's ER and went over to the nurse's station an hour after Maggie was admitted to the local hospital closest to the lab. She hated that she had to try to sit patiently, in a helicopter to get to Maggie.

"I need to know where special agent Maggie Bell is." Isobel jumped right to the point.

The nurse looks up from the computer, about to say something when she realizes that Isobel won't be someone to mess with.

"She's being settled into a room right now, the doctors are trying to get her breathing levels up and to rid her system of the sarin gas but-"

"But what?"

"There's no chance of a recovery." The nurse swallowed. "I'm sure you already know that the gas is deadly but-"

"I'm going to ask this once more and that's it. "But" what?" Isobel asked, feeling her stomach drop.

"It might be better if it were her doctor talking to you." The nurse hesitated.

"I need to know! Now!" Isobel shouted and then looked around as everyone stared at her. "I'm sorry, sorry. She's just one of New York's best FBI agents and I can't lose her." Isobel swallowed the lump in her throat.

"Because she's more than just an agent to you." The nurse said and received a look from Isobel, "Sorry."

"It's fine. Can you tell me everything or would I need to wait for her doctor?" Isobel asked, running a hand through her hair.

"I can't tell you everything because I don't have all the details. I don't know how long Doctor Mitchell is going to be checking her over so maybe it will be best for you to wait in the family room while you're waiting for news." The nurse can see that Isobel is about to object, so she beats her to it. "I know this isn't what you want to hear. I know you want to hear news about your friend, so waiting in the room may be what's best until Mitchell can talk to you."

Isobel stares at the nurse and sighs giving in. "Fine," Isobel said. "Lead the way."

The nurse stands up. "My name is Chloe, I know you weren't going to ask but I thought I should tell you anyway," Molly said, giving her a small smile.

"You're right, I wasn't going to ask but thank you for introducing yourself, Molly." Isobel stops walking to shake her hand. "I'm Isobel, I'm Maggie's boss."

"It's nice to meet you, Isobel. Even if it's under these circumstances" Molly smiled. Isobel just nodded, not being able to say anything. "Is there anyone you need to call? For you or Maggie?"

"Oh god." Isobel choked out. "Her sister." Isobel covered her mouth, trying not to break down.

"It's okay."

"How is any of this okay?"

"Fair." The nurse sighed and opened the door to the family room after they walked for a couple more minutes. "I'm sorry I can't be of more help but if you'd like I could call her for you?" Molly offered.

"No, it's okay. It's better if I do it." Isobel shook her head and pulled out her phone. "And I do have a few more people that are here for Maggie so when they come would you mind sending them here? They're her family as much as her blood relatives."

Chloe nods and leaves the room after saying that she'll direct them to the room when they come in.

Isobel's hands shook as she dialled Erin's number. It rang a few times before Isobel heard Erin's voice.

"Isobel? This is a surprise." Erin sounded surprised and clueless as to what the call was about.

Isobel choked back tears. "Erin, I'm so sorry."

"Sorry? About what?" Erin seemed to pick up on Isobel's sad and panicked tone. "No!" Erin said. "No," Erin had to sit down. "Please tell me you're not going to tell me what I think you are." Erin listened to Isobel whimper, "No," Erin's eyes filled with tears.

"Erin, I am so sorry. She was exposed to sarin gas, and it caused her lungs to shut down. She's in a hospital right now," Isobel let a few tears fall.

"I'll be there as soon as I can. Please keep me updated." Erin asked her, wiping away her own tears.

"I promise," Isobel told her, clearing her throat. "I'll let you know if there are any changes," Isobel told Erin just before she hung up.

Isobel gave in and let her tears fall. She sobbed and didn't care how loud she was being. She let herself fall apart. I'm such an idiot. I can't believe this happened under my leadership. What kind of leader would tell her agents to go into a building filled with sarin gas with no backup or PPE? Her thoughts led her to sob harder, tears falling down her cheeks, landing on her thighs and running down her throat. She sniffled just as the door opened and Jubal, Scola, Tiffany, and OA walked in.

"OA! What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be getting checked out?"

"What the hell were you thinking? Telling us to go in? To not wait for SWAT?" OA asked. "That was stupid as hell and both Maggie and I should have refused!" OA began to yell. "We shouldn't have listened to you because now my partner is fighting for her life."

Isobel wipes her cheeks. "I'm sorry OA. I didn't mean-"

"You didn't mean what? To get one of your agents stuck in a poison-filled room? To have them killed?" OA shouted, not caring about the tears falling down her cheeks. "Oh sure, act like you care now. You can stop the fake tears." Just then the door opened.

"Enough!" Chloe shouted, stopping OA's hurtful rant. Everyone turned to face her. "You clearly have no idea who your boss is if you think those tears are fake."

"And you are?"

"Chloe. Someone who has watched your boss tear herself apart, worried for Maggie, not just one of her agents." Chloe looked at Isobel. "I don't understand it. She's clearly tearing herself apart. She even called Erin to tell her what happened to her sister even though she was falling apart. She still is."

OA looks taken aback. "You have no right to talk to me like that thinking you know me. Or what led to this."

"OA," Tiffany wiped her tears and stepped forward. "That's enough. She doesn't deserve this verbal abuse. We all know you two would take the risk to go in anyway. Despite how deadly it was in that lab."

OA huffed and crossed his arms, shutting up. He sat down in the corner of the room seemingly to be left alone.

Jubal walked to Isobel and pulled her into a hug and sighed when Isobel sobbed into his shoulder. "This is not your fault, Isobel," Jubal told her, rubbing her back, and listening to her heartbreaking sobs.

Sorry :( I'll get to Isobel in Maggie's hospital room next chapter
