Thanks for the welcome! I love this place!
Season 1 - Episode 9 - day after 'Cheaters never Prosper'
October 8, 2012
Andy didn't care and she wanted Indian food, so they met at a little place near his house. She didn't mind driving that far and Rusty was happy to just watch t.v. all day in the locked condo. He was told to not answer the door unless it was a detective, lieutenant, or captain that he knew personally. Sharon knew that Daniel Dunn may try to stop by… he'd already called and texted.
"I'm paying, Lieutenant," she said bluntly as they sat.
"Would it make any difference at all if I refused?"
"No." A stern look made him not even try. "It's a work dinner, so …"
He nodded and looked at the menu for a bit. "I've never been here."
"Me either."
"So how's Rusty?"
"After we order," she answered, the waiter arriving at that moment, but even if he hadn't, Sharon always made sure to talk after ordering. Focus.
Two minutes later, she answered. "He's okay, upset, of course, but glad he doesn't have to be in Dunn's life. He didn't want him in it to begin with."
"But we had to, Cynthia had to…"
"Yes."
"He likes it a lot at your place."
She nodded.
"Things getting better?"
"He seems happier. As with others, time helps."
He nodded.
Some of their order arrived, them having decided on several dishes each so they could share and try more from the menu.
"A few weeks back, you were upset and I ran into you in the hallway. Everything okay with that?"
"Did you speak with Provenza?"
"A little."
"Yeah, it's fine. Just, you know, Rusty thinking that … ultimately, no one wants him. That 'I' don't want him."
"He knows now?"
"Thankfully Provenza, of all people, talked some sense into him."
"Good, and it was …" Andy shifted a little uncomfortably, "... unnerving, I guess is the word … just, I very much did not like seeing you 'that' upset and not having a clue as to what was going on … please, know that you can talk to me, cry, be upset. I'm a pretty good listener."
She felt tears forming and scolded herself, them disappearing quickly. "Thank you, Andy. I will remember that." He was much more open and friendly than she thought he'd be. It was a very nice surprise.
Silence while they ate more. Not uncomfortable silence, however, which she was happy about.
"So, how are you?" She really wanted him to talk for a while.
"Better than yesterday, the meeting helped, as always."
"Good." She smiled. "Your kids?"
"Kids are great. Both happy, successful, not in my life at all, really …"
"You don't talk to them often?"
"Nicole, yes, about once a month, and I'll text her some … her brother, no." He swallowed.
"I'm sorry."
"He used to love me so much, my god. I really fucked up with their mother. At least when he was little, and a teenager, he … looked up to me. Now, he knows who I really was. His blinders were removed. Looking down... Of course, he's even taller physically. He's not a little boy anymore, and he knows how weak of a man I was back then … I can't seem to break through." he replied sadly.
She wasn't sure what to say.
"So how's your boy?" he needed the subject to change.
"Taller than you, also."
He laughed.
"And, Emily… right? What about her?" It was either Emily or … Evelyn … Elizabeth?
"Emily, yes, well, Emily is a different story. She may text or call in a bit. It's Sunday.," she smiled. "My little girl, ha, is, uh … shorter, but … extremely protective of me, to … to a fault, really." She met his eyes. "She hates all of you."
His eyebrows lifted. Nodding, he questioned, "Wow. We that bad, huh?"
"Yes." She looked down. "NO! I mean," She laughed. "I may just have unloaded my … frustrations with all of you over the years to her and um, well, she'll just take some time to be convinced that I was wrong."
"You weren't wrong."
She locked eyes with him quickly.
He shook his head in disappointment. "We all hated you. Treated you like fucking shit."
"I deserved it … well, some of it."
"No, Sharon, you didn't."
"I was bitchy, a lot. I was…"
"You were some, but you had to be. We made you be. If you were a push-over, you couldn't have done your job, or at least would have been bad at it. We all, well, except Julio and Buzz, really, didn't think of you as a … as a person, really."
"Yep, I was a witch." She smiled. "Of course I saw the murder board for Ally Moore's case."
"Sorry about that. That was a rough case all around. So, Emily?" He continued eating.
She gave him a look and answered slowly, carefully choosing her words. "She's overly protective, strong, a little too uh … hard, or … angry. Well, not now so much, she's happy, but she just … with her Dad and all, she's not … not a fan of most men." She smiled. "She's in New York City, so … far away from family drama."
"You still see Jack?" He regretted asking, may have been too personal.
"From time to time."
He went for it. "He ever… um … you know …"
"What?" She knew what he was asking. They were just speaking of the Moore case.
"Hit you?"
She smiled, "No. Never. He was usually a happy drunk. I never worried for my or our safety, but … he just wasn't a great husband or father. Wasn't there. Even when he was." She shrugged. "I heard someone say that a few weeks back."
Andy nodded. "I understand that."
She met his eyes and they stayed connected for a long moment. "Andy …"
"I'm not," he corrected, "I was not … a great husband or father."
"But you're trying now."
"Probably not as much as I should, but they're grown, you know? I can't just take them to a ball game."
"Why not?"
"It's been years. A decade..."
Her phone vibrated. He heard it. She looked at it. 'Em' it said.
"Take it, no problem," he smiled.
"I would put her on speaker, but …" she shook her head quickly and grinned, "Thanks, I'll just be a minute." Swipe. "Hey, Em."
Andy kept eating and listening because even without the speaker on, he could hear Emily's side of the conversation.
"Hey, Mommyyyyyy."
Sharon groaned. "What do you need?"
"You to come visit me for a week or two."
Sharon laughed. "Not until next month. And you are ridiculous thinking it'll be more than a three day visit."
Emily sighed. "Mom, please, stay longer."
"You come here, then."
"You know I can't."
"Well, you know I can't."
"Those assholes can do their job without you."
"Emily."
"Well, they can. I know that you have, like, seventeen months of vacation available."
"No, you aren't at all a drama queen."
"No more than Ricky."
Sharon hummed disapprovingly. Andy noticed already that her hums and sighs each had their own meaning, and there were so many … like her own language.
"I just really miss you."
Sharon's heart broke a little. She met Andy's eyes, apologizing. He waved his hand, letting her know that it was no problem at all. He enjoyed listening to them.
"I miss you more, love, you okay other than that?" She lowered her voice.
"Yeah. What are you doing?"
"Out at dinner…"
"Okay, well, I'll let you go. Wait, with someone?"
"Yes, Lieutenant Flynn."
"What?"
"Em-"
"Can he hear me?"
Sharon met his eyes. "I think so." He grinned and nodded.
"I hate him."
"Emily!"
He held up a hand again.
"Well, he shouldn't have been a …"
"Okay, stop. I need to go."
"This better just be a work dinner."
"Of course it is." How embarrassing.
"Can I speak to him?"
"No you 'MAY' not speak 'WITH' him."
He reached his hand out for the phone.
Sharon rolled her eyes. "Fine, but, don't disappoint me, Emily."
Andy brought the phone up to his ear. "Hi, I'm sorry for being an ass toward your …"
Sharon didn't hear the other end of the line, but his eyes widened for a brief moment and he swallowed, even turned a little red. He nodded and didn't even try to interrupt as he let his Captain's daughter speak.
"Understood." He replied after a moment, and handed the phone back to Sharon, receiving a look.
Sharon put the phone to her ear and hummed.
"Alright, well, I'll let you go have dinner, Mom. Love you."
"Em, seriously, you're okay and …"
"I'm okay, just miss you terribly."
Sharon rolled her eyes and smiled. "I miss you, too, sweetie. So much. Call me later tonight?"
"Yep yep."
"Love you, love."
Placing the phone back in her purse, she quickly looked at the man in front of her, arching an eyebrow.
"I'll never tell." He simply stated, neck still a little red.
"I'm so sorry if she was rude-"
"She's amazing, Sharon. Your daughter is great. Like you said, she's protective, and also, she's correct… and she loves you."
She hummed, not looking away.
"If I ever, or rather, when … I need advice with my own daughter, I'll be coming to you."
She nodded and smiled, "Any time."
"And, we assholes CAN work the entire Thanksgiving week without you." He tilted his head. "You should stay the whole week."
Sharon only smiled.
"Take two weeks if you-"
"Oh, Provenza would be in heaven."
"I don't know, Captain. You seem to be the one to ultimately solve all of our cases. He knows that we … he … needs you."
She laughed, shaking her head.
"No, seriously. You-"
"Okay, Andy, I didn't invite you here to …"
"Give you compliments, or at least acknowledge that we were all wrong? No, you didn't, but uh," he smiled and winked, "I'm still going to."
"Alright, well, thanks and like you said yesterday, yes, we work well together, all of us, and I feel as if it's getting easier, at work, just not," she nodded over to her purse which housed her phone, "at home."
"They aren't happy with your job." Not a question.
"No."
"Why?"
"They don't want me in the field. They preferred me in FID, or at least responding when twenty other officers were around me."
He smiled.
"What did she say?" She needed to know.
He shook his head and she could see him get a bit redder.
"Lieutenant Flynn, what did she say?"
"She just said 'hi'."
Sharon let out a frustrated sigh. "Okay, fine. I'll find out another way. I wanted to speak with you about Rusty."
"Has Emily spoken to Rusty?"
Sharon laughed. "No."
"How does she feel about him?"
"How do you feel about him?" She needed to bring back the matter at hand.
"Worried now, what happened yesterday?"
She sighed and grew serious. "Dunn hit him for being too open about what he did while he was on his own. Rusty probably did say too much, and possibly in front of the little girls, but that doesn't warrant hitting him."
"Of course not. What are you going to do?"
"What would you do?" She took a bite and leaned back, listening.
"Arrest him."
"You think we should?"
"I think we should kill him and hide the body."
She grinned, but agreed. "Stop."
Season 4 - Episode 11 - during "Four of a Kind'

"Think we should kill him and hide the body?" Sharon whispered against his lips, referring to his doctor.
"I love you," was all he could say before kissing her.
"He's right, Andy, you need to stay home, well… here, rest, take some time off …"
"Doctors don't know how policework … works. You can't just take off for…"
"Health reasons? Yes sir, you can. He's a good doctor. You know he's right."
The paramedics checked Andy out after he nearly passed out in her office, taking him then to the hospital. Sharon picked him up later and although he'd been sleeping at her condo often, he hoped to go home, not to have her take care of him. He didn't need all of the fuss and he was just fine enough to go to his house and rest. She'd given him no choice. Supervision. 24/7. Jesus. He didn't want to be a burden. He also didn't want to sleep in the kid's room. They've been sleeping together for almost four months … yet the kid had no clue, and he knew Sharon believed it was too soon to tell him.
"Please, could we just tell him?"
"No."
He pulled her in closer. "I want to sleep with you."
She smiled, head against his chest, arms wrapped snugly around his waist. "Doctor's orders, Andy," she looked up, "mine, too."
He kissed her.
She broke away and glared into his eyes. "You really scared me today."
"I shouldn't have jumped onto her car."
She wanted to laugh. "No, you shouldn't have."
"I'm sorry."
"And Provenza." She said with anger.
"What?"
"CRACKED ribs, Andy, this wasn't a 'couple of scrapes'. I wish I had video."
"Looked worse than it was."
"Hmmmm."
He smiled down, knowing that hum ... 'I'm disappointed in you,' it meant. He'd learned her language pretty well as of this point.
He kissed her again.
They were in her room at the moment, door open half-way, Rusty watching t.v. on the couch, his sleeping quarters for the foreseeable future.
"I could sneak in after we're sure that Rusty's asleep."
"You can't. I'm locking the door."
"You wouldn't."
"Andy, you wouldn't. You've been told, rest. No exertion ..."
"We'd just be sleeping."
She hummed. He smiled. She was right. His heart always ended up racing whenever she was near, and he knew that he wouldn't keep his hands to himself.
"I love you, Andy."
"I don't know why."
"What?!"
"Nothing."
"Andy?"
"Sorry, I just … I can't believe it. I mean," he corrected, after the look she gave him, "I do … believe you. I'm just … in awe." He grinned that grin. She sighed, head back on his chest, listening to his heart beat. He added, almost a whisper in her ear, '... and so desperately in love with you."
She smiled against him, listening to his heart for a while and he just stood with her, swaying slowly.
He chuckled.
Her phone vibrated. Em.
Andy smiled.
"Hey, darlin'," Sharon greeted.
"May I speak with him?"
"Of course." She handed the phone to Andy and sat on the bed, watching as he assured her daughter that he was okay.
After much convincing, they said their goodbyes.
"She … Andy, you hung up?!"
"She said she had to go, told me to tell you she loved you and would call tomorrow."
Her eyes narrowed. Jealousy. He grinned.
"I think she loves me more than you." Ridiculous, he knew, but he had to tease.
"Stop."
The next morning…
She kissed Rusty goodbye and smiled as she looked over the recently tidied living room.
She knew that Andy would be in soon, hearing him move around slowly and knock around in the bathroom. She and Rusty had taken turns through the night checking up on him as he slept.
"Did you lay with me at some point during the night?" She loved his voice.
She was now in the kitchen plopping fruit in a bowl. "I did." Grinning at him in his green robe and slippers.
"Why didn't you wake me," he pouted and placed his hands around her from behind, kissing under her ear, moving lower, slowly.
"Mmmmm, you were fast asleep and I just wanted to be next to you," she brought her hand up to his cheek and back behind his neck, him still wrapped around her from behind.
He found her lips and kissed her sweetly and she turned slowly.
"Sit," she nodded to the dining room table.
He groaned and pulled her closer, smelling her hair.
She pulled back. "Sit."
He sighed, slumping over to the table. "Before breakfast, though, shower with me?" He sat and looked down as she walked over.
"You're not doing anything before breakfast, and then, you're only doing your breathing treatments."
—-
"So he's at school then… 8:30 class?"
"Not exactly."
"And why can't we go lay down … or shower … or sit on the couch … or …"
"Andy, eat. Rest. Meaning no sex. No making out," she stood and moved to stand over him, running her hand through his hair as he ate some fruit, looking up to her.
"But I love you," he almost whined, leaning his head against her stomach as she now had both hands in his hair.
She dropped down and kissed his lips. "Mmmm, pineapple. I loooove pineapple." She kissed him again and then pulled away, moving toward her room to change for the day. "I love you, too," she called out as she walked down the hallway, "which is why I will be following your doctor's orders."
He sighed.
"Fine."
