Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Sailor Stars: Rebirth

Act 9: Only Together We Face the Fight

Sora Kazeno

Queen Beryl laughs as all the energy gathers. Soon she will have enough and will be able to continue where she left off all those years ago. She looks over at her five generals. "You are going to split up the senshi by attacking five different areas at the same time."

The generals nod their heads in acknowledgement.

"I will notify you when to begin your attack. Go ahead to those locations. Gather whatever energy you can without detection." Their Queen instructions them, "it's too soon for to attack the senshi."

The five generals bow to their Queen before they disappear to their designated locations.

Once she is alone, she contemplates what to do with Polaris. The newcomer has been very helpful gathering energy and provided the gemstones needed to create new generals. She gave Polaris a few tasks to gather as much as energy as she can from the solar flare. She doesn't fully trust Polaris. Who is this Master that she serves? Why has the Master never showed their face, the one that freed her from the Moon Princess' seal? What is the Master's end game? Beryl waves it off; she must focus on her goal conquering the Earth. As soon as it is done she will make Polaris tell her who her Master is. She smiles at the thought of another potential powerful energy source.

She sits back down on her throne to gaze into the sphere on top of her staff. She needs to focus her attention on the collection of energy. Without the energy, her plan will never succeed unless she has enough to return to Earth. Her main objective is the same, kill the Moon Princess and obtain the Ginzuishou.

Sailor Mars is out of breath by the time she approaches Juuban High School. Her school was dismissed once rumors surfaced her friend's school was under attack. She left as soon as she could and sprinted so she could provide assistance. She freezes when the sky darkens. The hairs on the back on her neck stick up; an ominous presence of what is to come.

She rushes past the school gates still open to allow the remaining students to leave. Nothing appears amiss so far. She runs to the side of the building, searching for her friends, worried something happened to them. She finds a few piles of dust along the way. Youma were here.

Running further into the school grounds, she hears voices up ahead. The group is on the softball field. Her eyes widen when she realizes she is the last one here. But the sight of everyone gives her relief. "I'm sorry; I got here as quickly as I could once I heard about the attack." She takes several deep breathes trying to calm her still racing heart. "What happened?"

"Polaris attacked us along with a lot of youma," Sailor Jupiter explained to the senshi of fire.

Sailor Mercury briefly looks up from her computer. She is angry with herself for not keeping a closer eye on everything when everyone depends on her for information. "The attack was meant to keep us busy while the solar flare started." Her voice lowers. "They wanted to make sure we wouldn't have a moment to try to anything to stop it."

Sailor Uranus clenches her right fist tightly. "If only we were able to find something at D Point, but all we found were an army of youma."

"Youma that couldn't attack us here," Sailor Saturn speaks up softly. She turns her gaze upward. Some of the darkness lifted but it is still significantly darker than it should be for the middle of the afternoon.

Sailor Pluto looks at her fellow Outer Senshi, "Queen Beryl will be attacking soon." There is no delaying the inventible. They failed to prevent the attack. All they can do now is stop her whenever she appears.

Sailor Moon can feel her knees wobble. She attempts to not let her panic show. "So soon…?" She looks at the others for support. "But we don't have a plan to stop her. We can't even find her!" Sailor Moon's voice rises. This is what she dreaded, what she was afraid of. Her shoulders slump in defeat. Queen Beryl will attack the Earth soon. She was just starting to gain some of her confidence back after battling the youmas. Was she ready for Queen Beryl?

"She'll come to us…. Everything we saw happened in Tokyo." Sailor Star Healer looks around at the buildings that surround the school. They didn't look like anything she could recall from the premonition.

Sailor Star Fighter looks at the other senshi. "We need to regroup. I don't think we have much time." They also needed to rest as much as possible.

"We should all head to the shrine. It's large enough to accommodate all of us. I think it's safer if we stay together." Sailor Mars suggests.

"I think it's a good idea." Tuxedo Kamen echoes. "We can also listen to the radio and search for television reports."

The Inner Senshi nod their heads in agreement.

Sailor Uranus tries to suppress a yawn. She and the other Outer Senshi are exhausted after traveling to and from D Point plus battling youma. She can't let any weakness be visible to the others; they have to appear strong. "We should use this time to rest as well." She turns to Sailor Neptune, Sailor Pluto, and Sailor Saturn. "We'll join you there shortly."

Sailor Moon protests their delay. "Don't run off and try to handle this yourself like you did Galaxia or the Death Busters." She pleads with her in the eyes. "We have to stick together."

Sailor Neptune winks at Sailor Moon. "I guess you saw right through her this time." She teases her partner.

"We will meet you there shortly. We promise." Sailor Pluto assures the Princess. She turns her full attention to Sailor Uranus to make her understand from this point forward, "we must work together to avoid disaster."

Several hours later, Ami finally looks up from her computer screen. Her eyes are exhausted from combing over as much data as she could. She takes off her wire rimmed glasses to rub the bridge of her nose, mentally taking a break while she observes the others in the room.

Luna and Artemis are next to her reviewing newspapers for anything they could have missed.

Rei asked the others to be alone to consult the Great Fire and needed as few distractions as possible.

Minako and Makoto are talking quietly about something in the corner.

Yaten is flipping through radio stations and grumbling under his breath when he finds Todokanu Omoi: My Friend's Love playing on one of the stations.

Seiya and Taiki are checking news stations on the television for any more information.

Usagi is napping on Mamoru's arm, while Mamoru is reviewing some documents he printed the other day about solar flares he didn't have a chance to finish.

Haruka and the others finally arrive at the shrine with several plastic bags from Lawson's convenience store. She pulled out a few nikuman to pass to some of the others, she is sure they could use a snack.

Usagi's nose twitches as it picks up the scent of food. She loves steamed buns. She opens her eyes and immediately sees the bag Haruka has. Seconds later, a little drool forms at the right corner of her mouth. "Nikuman!" Usagi grins while approaching Haruka. "If you're going to show up late, at least you brought food!" Usagi is so focused on rushing over to Haruka for food she completely misses the two people sitting on the floor in her path that are trying to watch television reports.

She ends up kicking Seiya and knocking him over into Taiki while tripping over both of them. She half landed on Taiki and half on Seiya turning the scene into a giant pile of limbs sticking out. She has no idea how the three of them ended up in such a tangled mess.

Everyone in the room stares at Usagi and teardrops. Leave it up to Usagi to be so focused on food she ignores anyone in her path.

Usagi slowly shifts into a sitting position.

"Oi… Odango… you're heavier than you look…" Seiya grumbles.

Usagi looks down and realizes when she sat up, she was actually sitting on Seiya's back, pinning him onto the ground. She turns bright red and scrambles to get up all while yelling, "that's not nice to say to any girl!"

"Most girls don't run people over trying to get food." He pauses and shakes his head. Seiya smirks. "I should have known better."

Usagi eyes widen. "What is that supposed to mean?"

Taiki finally frees himself from the rest of the tangled mess. "Somethings really don't change." He comments, interrupting Usagi and Seiya. He looks at Usagi, "at least there wasn't a cake involved this time."

Usagi teardrops and laughs nervously. "Mako-chan didn't want me to help make any pastries for months after that!"

"You should have made it longer than four months," Rei comments to Makoto loud enough for Usagi to hear.

"Rei-chan!" Usagi shouts, jumping to her feet.

"My, my, looks I have more nikuman to eat then," Haruka comments pulling out a pork steam bun.

Usagi whips around with such force her pigtails hit Seiya and Taiki in the face. They throw up their arms to protect themselves from more hair smacking them.

"No fair Haruka-san!" All of Usagi's attention is back on the food, ignoring everyone teasing her moments ago. She miraculously makes it to Haruka without tripping or kicking anyone else in the process.

Usagi tries to grab the bag with the nikuman from Haruka, but Haruka adds to the game by holding the bag up over her head. Usagi grumbles and jumps, trying to grab the bag from Haruka. But she is too short. After a few tries she bursts into tears. "Everyone is being so mean when I'm so hungry!"

While Haruka is distracted by Usagi's tears, Michiru snatches the bag from Haruka and passes the white paper bag with several nikuman inside to their Princess.

Usagi opens the bag and pulls out a nikuman, pausing just long enough to remove part of the paper wrapper before devouring the treat.

"You should be nicer to the Princess…" Michiru lightly scolds Haruka.

"Michiru?" Haruka looks at her in surprise. She blushes slightly; she's not used to being reprimanded by Michiru in front of everyone.

Usagi puts the last piece of the bread into her mouth. She reaches into the bag for another one and discovers it is empty.

Haruka and Michiru stare at Usagi and blink a few times. She just ate three nikuman in seconds. "No way…." Haruka speaks first. "I should have bought more…" She underestimated just how much Usagi can eat and how quickly.

"They were so tasty!" Usagi justified why she inhaled her food.

"We have more for everyone else…" Hotaru comments holding up a few bags.

"I guess we should have had more for the Princess," Setsuna comments with a slight smile thinking of the times Neo Queen Serenity and Small Lady quickly devoured any food placed in front of them.

"Where is Rei-chan?" Michiru asks, noticing her absence.

"She's doing a fire reading," Ami responds. She bows her head slightly as she accepts a few sandwiches from Hotaru.

"I'm going to check on her," Michiru announces before she leaves the room. She has visited Rei a few times before in front of the Great Fire over the years in an effort for both of them to improve their intuition abilities. When she reaches the room at the end of the hall, she finds the door already open. She quietly enters and sits in the back of the room.

Seconds later Rei speaks to Michiru, "I haven't seen anything else. I don't understand what is wrong." Rei relaxes her posture. She was nearly at the point of giving up before Michiru entered the room. She takes a few steps back from the fire before she turns around to face her aqua haired friend.

"You're trying too hard," Michiru explains. "We both are. Visions can't be forced; they come on their own time despite how frustrating it is when you need answers right away." Her voice demonstrates her own frustration on a lack of answers to questions she has as well.

"Is it the same with your mirror?" Rei turns around to extinguish the flames, the last thing she needs is a fire in the shrine.

"Yes." Michiru keeps her response short. Her eyes wander the rest of the room for a sign either one of them could have missed. "So many times it offers more questions than answers and it is up to us to piece it all together."

Rei examines the hearth to make sure there are no remaining flames or sparks. When she finds none, she turns around and sighs. "I just want this danger to pass and have everyone unharmed."

Michiru smiles, "You know that is not how it works as a senshi."

The corners of Rei's mouth twitches. "Yeah. That would be too simple." Her expression becomes more serious. "I'm really worried about Usagi. Having her face Queen Beryl… I have an uneasy feeling… and some other kind of uncertainty what awaits us… even beyond this battle."

Michiru's eyes widen a small bit as she fights to keep her expression as neutral as possible. "We should rejoin the others and see if they have any updates."

Rei nods her head in agreement and without another word she moves past Michiru and heads down the hallway to the others, her priestess robes swaying as she walks.

Michiru follows wordlessly behind. Now Rei is feeling apprehensive about this battle and what is awaiting them after the battle. Her words are similar to Setsuna's. Whatever happened to an era of peace after Chaos until Usagi became Queen? Why is everything so different? She pulled out her Deep Aqua Mirror but the glass is still dark symbolizing an uncertain future.

Ami looks up from her computer, "I'm finding several energy sources that just appeared in Tokyo!" The alarm in her voice causes everyone to stop what they are doing and crowd around her. "They are growing stronger each second."

"Where?" Haruka asks, walking over to Ami.

"Shibuya. Odaiba, and Taito City." Ami squints her eyes at the screen. "I'm going to try to pinpoint the exact location but I have to examine them one at time for the most accurate information." Seconds later her computer beeps again. "Another energy source, this one is in Juuban."

A synthesized siren sound in the background catches Yaten's attention. It is the emergency alert from the radio. "Shhh!" He hisses at everyone as he rushes over to the radio to turn up the broadcast. "Reports are coming in as several black clouds with large lightning bolts are appearing in various wards of Tokyo. These clouds are different than anything experts have seen before and are worried it could be the start of a super storm. The government is ordering everyone to remain inside until the clouds pass." The siren sound repeats and the message replays. Yaten turns the volume down.

"They're crazy if they think we're not going to investigate," Haruka adds while pulling out her purple transformation wand.

Makoto looks worriedly at everyone. "But it is in four different locations. We can't be at all of them at once." She doesn't like where this is going.

"Then we have to split up." Michiru responds without hesitation.

"No!" Usagi immediately objects. "That is what Queen Beryl wants us to do!" She looks to everyone else for support.

"Usako, you know that isn't possible." Mamoru tries to explain to her. "It would be ideal for everyone to be together but we can't let other wards of the city be in danger."

Usagi wants to object further, but there is nothing she can do. "It's not right." She closes her eyes tightly. They are stronger if they are all together. Queen Beryl knows this and that is why she wants to separate them.

"Mamoru-san is correct," Setsuna echoes his thoughts. "Hotaru and I will go to Odaiba and handle the disturbance." She looks at Hotaru and the petite black haired girls nods her head in agreement.

Ami's computer beeps again. "A fifth location." She types a few strokes on her keyboard and narrows in the location. "Tokyo Dome in Bunkyo."

"That settles it," Taiki looks over at Yaten and Seiya. Each of them have their change star in their hands. "The longer we stand around here more sections of Tokyo will be in danger. We will go to Bunkyo since we are familiar with that area."

Usagi looks over at the Three Lights to protest but stops. Her shoulders slump in defeat. "It's the only way to save everyone. Splitting up…" her voice trails off as she walks over to Setsuna and Hotaru first. "You have to promise me you'll be safe and come back." She turns to look at the Three Lights, especially Seiya, "all of you."

"As soon as we're done, we'll move on to another location to see if the others need help and if everyone is fine, we'll return here," Setsuna vows, trying to reduce some of the anxiety Usagi feels.

"We'll try our best, but Odango this is a war on Tokyo," Seiya explains trying to help Usagi have reasonable expectations for what is about to happen.

Usagi sniffles as she fights back her tears the best she can. She's terrified she won't see them again after they leave. "I just want everyone safe…I don't want to see everyone die."

"That's why we're heading out, to keep everyone safe. We have the same goal." Seiya looks over to Taiki and Yaten. It's time to leave. "Fighter Star Power, Make Up!"

"Healer Star Power, Make Up!"

"Maker Star Power, Make Up!"

When the bright light ends, the Starlights slip out of the shrine and on to their destination.

Setsuna looks at her purple wand for a moment, hoping all of her instincts are wrong. "Pluto Crystal Power, Make Up!"

"Saturn Crystal Power, Make Up!"

Sailor Pluto and Sailor Saturn share a glance with Haruka and Michiru before they leave. The two remaining Outer Senshi nod their heads in understanding.

Sailor Pluto and Sailor Saturn leave the shrine. Sailor Pluto summons energy from her staff to speed up their travel since Odaiba would take them too longer otherwise.

Back inside, Haruka claims the spot she and Michiru will explore. "We'll go to Taito City." She pauses to add, "as soon as we're done we'll check on whoever is close by."

"Please don't worry Princess," Michiru tries one last time to reassure Usagi. She needs Usagi to be focused when the battle starts.

"Uranus Crystal Power, Make Up!"

"Neptune Crystal Power, Make Up!"

The two senshi depart the shrine, leaving the Inner Senshi, Mamoru and the two cats.

Minako looks at the others for a moment to voice her concern. "Is it really a good idea for them to leave in such small groups?" She has her doubts on how easy the senshi made it sound that left.

"They are some of the strongest senshi among us and they work well together. We might end up being in their way and if that is the case, it could endanger them instead of help them." Mamoru explains; he wants to try to change their focus from discussing everyone's safety in an impossible situation. Such a topic is only going to make Usako more worried. "We can help them by protecting the other locations in Tokyo."

Usagi turns to Ami. "What are the other two locations?" She tries to follow his advice and focus what they can do to help the others.

"Shibuya and Juuban." Ami looks at the six of them remaining. "I think we should split into two groups. We can't be in both of the remaining places at the same time."

Usagi frowns, there isn't another way. "I guess there is no avoiding it." She looks at her friends. She could freak out but it's not going to solve anything.

"Do you know where in Shibuya?" Makoto asks.

Ami looks at her screen. "Meiji Shrine."

"I'm going there," Rei immediately volunteers. "I'm really familiar with the shrine grounds."

"I'll go with you." Makoto offers. She looks over at Ami and Minako. "I think one of you should join us."

"The Juuban place is Arisugawa Park," Ami closes her computer to look at her friends.

"I'll go with Usagi-chan and Mamoru-san to Juuban." Minako slowly responds. "I think it's better if Ami-chan goes with you. The shrine grounds are a lot of bigger than the park and you might need her computer to help narrow it down more."

"That's a good idea," Rei agrees. "It can take twenty minutes just to walk to the main shrine from the torii gate." She pauses to look at her friends. "I know we can do this." She walks over to Usagi to give her a few words of encouragement. "We will be there to help to stop Queen Beryl in no time."

Usagi smiles slightly and nods her head. She grasps her brooch and looks at everyone one final time before she transforms. She can do this. She has to. "Moon Eternal, Make Up!"

"Mercury Crystal Power, Make Up!"

"Mars Crystal Power, Make Up!"

"Jupiter Crystal Power, Make Up!"

"Venus Crystal Power, Make Up!"

Sailor Moon rushes forward to hug Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, and Sailor Jupiter tightly before they leave. "We'll see each other soon." She tries to see them off with a smile but deep down she has this feeling of dread things will not work out that easily. She prays she is wrong.

Sailor Pluto and Sailor Saturn pause at the Rainbow Bridge Observation Deck in Odaiba. Odaiba is a short distance from Tokyo and the only man-made island in the area. The Rainbow Bridge is just starting to light up in the colors of its namesake. Behind the bridge they can see Tokyo Tower lit up in its traditional red orange color. The observation deck they stand on is empty and the normally busy shopping area is quiet. Everyone is home.

Sailor Pluto ponders what it would be like to be a regular person, one that does not have the burdens of being a sailor senshi. A small smile crosses her lips. She can wonder all she wants but she will never know what that life will be like. She has a duty to protect her Princess and eventual Queen. She looks at Sailor Saturn.

The senshi in purple is spending a few moments enjoying the view. "It's so peaceful in this moment. But that is all it is, a moment." She looks up to one of her mother figures, "we have to keep this peaceful for the Princess."

"Yes," Sailor Pluto nods her head in agreement. "I know we are in the right location but nothing appears out of the ordinary other than the dark clouds above."

"I can feel a dark presence lingering." Sailor Saturn grips her glaive. "It's similar to D Point but I can't pinpoint its exact location."

"I feel the same way Saturn." Sailor Pluto continues to look out at the water for a few more moments before turning to the younger senshi beside her.

"If the Starlights returned to help us, we know how dangerous this is," Sailor Saturn turns to look at the paved path leading to the shopping center.

"What is about to happen is serious enough the Starlights mere presence is a deviation from what this time should be. This battle was never supposed to happen." The two pause for a moment by the mini Statue of Liberty replica.

"There are a lot of things that are not supposed to happen but do."

Sailor Pluto smiles slightly at Sailor Saturn's words. "We'll have to make sure that we stop Queen Beryl before the Starlights premonition comes true."

Sailor Saturn nods her head in agreement. Without another word the duo walk down the path leading to the Divers City Shopping Plaza.

The three Starlights stand in the center stage of the Tokyo Dome. It is a drastic shift from the last time they stood at this very spot for their final concert surrounded by thousands of screaming fans while they tried to find the Light of Hope. None of the bright spotlights are on, only a few scatter lights on the stage and throughout the audience seats.

"I miss performing on stage," Sailor Star Fighter suddenly speaks out loud. "Up here all we had to do was sing."

"Yeah…" Sailor Star Healer shifts her position to her usual spot on stage. "When the performance ended we had to deal with reality again. For that one or two hours it was an escape from everything." She looks back at Maker and Fighter. "We didn't have any other responsibilities but to sing to find our Princess."

Sailor Star Maker looks at her position on stage. "We still have the concert to look forward to. It will be here soon." She smiles. "One last time."

Sailor Star Healer laughs slightly. "That is what we said last time." She becomes more serious. "After the concern is over… we'll also return home, just like last time."

The three Starlights are silent. They all miss Kinmoku but this planet has become a second home to them without them noticing.

Sailor Star Fighter looks at her fellow Starlights. "Being on this planet… really did change us. Maker, you actually started to laugh again. Healer, you started to learn to trust people again."

"And you are not as focused as you used to be," Sailor Star Healer retorts back.

Sailor Star Maker clears her throat before more words could be exchanged between her comrades. "But above all we are senshi with a mission to complete on this planet."

Sailor Star Fighter redirects her focus. "Right." She walks to the edge of the stage. "So let's figure out what is going on here and why this spot was chosen by the enemy."

"And stop those girls from getting killed," Sailor Star Healer adds, reminding the others of why they are here; to prevent the death of the other sailor senshi.

Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune stand near the entrance of the red tori gate of the Sensoji.

Sailor Neptune admires the two statues near the Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate). They both pause for a moment to bow to pay their respects before entering scared ground. Silently they enter the gate passing under the large red lantern hanging above them. "It's going to be dark soon. This temple is always beautiful in the evening."

"I never really noticed," Sailor Uranus turns to Sailor Neptune with a smile.

"Oh? What were you looking at instead?"

"A different kind of beauty."

Sailor Neptune smiles at her words. "That will be later," she winks. The smile is short lived as she pulls out her Deep Aqua Mirror. "We never saw Sailor Moon trapped in red vines, did we?"

"No," Sailor Uranus' playful tune is immediately gone as she focuses on her mission. "This battle is far from over."

They continue in silence as the walk down the path of closed vendor booths, known as Nakamise, that lead to the entrance of the temple's main hall. On a normal evening it would be crowded with residents and tourists.

The only sound they hear for the first several meters are the clicking of their heels on the pavement.

"I hope this isn't a dead end," Sailor Neptune comments, looking down at her mirror one more time for any change and doesn't find one. "I'm tired of not finding any leads."

There is a small intersection that connects the grounds to several small side streets which surround the temple complex. They turn to the side to see if there is anything out of place. That is when they find him.

"I can assure you it is a dead end," Danburite comments, stepping into view. "Yours." He grins at the two senshi, sizing up his adversaries. He doesn't see how two young women could be much of a threat to him. His waist length emerald green flows in the evening breeze.

Sailor Uranus smirks at his arrogance. "You're new."

"And the newcomer will be the one to kill you."

Sailor Mars, Sailor Mercury, and Sailor Jupiter pass under a large torii gate, Meiji Jungu Ichino Torii inside Yoyogi Park. The large gate is meant to look like wood. Lining each side of the gate are rows of trees. On hot days, the shade is needed on the lengthy journey inside.

"I forgot how long the path is to the main building," Sailor Jupiter speaks up after a few minutes. Normally she would enjoy this walk among the trees with her friends, but circumstances prevent her from appreciating the moment.

Sailor Mercury studies their surroundings with her visor. "We might not need to go that far into the shrine grounds." She waits for her visor to return with more data before she continues.

"Where is it at?" Sailor Mars asks; turning around to face Sailor Mercury who was walking a short distance behind her and Sailor Jupiter.

"I'm picking something up near the garden entrance," Sailor Mercury responds after a few moments, verifying the location with her visor.

"Let's go!" Sailor Mars exclaims as they start to jog to the location. "We need to hurry; the others might need our help too." She doesn't say it out loud but she is worried Usagi isn't ready for this.

Sailor Moon, Tuxedo Kamen, and Sailor Venus stand near the lake at the back of the park.

Sailor Moon's eyes shift down as she sees the wooden area nearby. It is the location where Nephrite died in Naru's arms after he protected her from Zoisite. She will never forget the scream Naru let out when he vanished and she collapsed crying onto the ground. She closes her eyes tightly, trying to block out the painful sobs. She needs to check in on Naru. Taking a few deep breaths she forces herself to move forward. She has to protect everyone so something like that doesn't happen to them.

She has to protect everyone. They are all going to make it out of this battle alive. Somehow. She will find a way. But the only way to do that is to cast aside her doubts or she will never stop Beryl.

Tuxedo Kamen and Sailor Venus appear so full of confidence to her, she needs to demonstrate the same.

Tuxedo Kamen reaches over and places a hand on Sailor Moon's shoulder to comfort her.

"I have a bad feeling about this Artemis," Luna states looking at the dark clouds in the distance from the steps of the Hikawa Shrine.

"I know Luna, but there is nothing we can do to help them," Artemis responds glumly. "We've done all we could to support them by completing research… I'm not sure if that was even enough." He turns to look at her as he continues, "they have been senshi for years, fighting so many battles. We'll hope for the best, just like we always have." He smiles. "We've seen a lot of hopeless situations in the past but they have always found a way to overcome them."

Luna looks at him for a moment before she responds. "I hope this one will not be any different."

"We have to believe they will succeed," he pauses for a moment before adding, "We still have Crystal Tokyo to look forward to."

"Yes, well…" Luna responds turning away from him when she thinks of the future daughter they will have when Crystal Tokyo appears.

Sailor Uranus jumps out of the way of a dark energy blast from Danburite. She is thankful the vender stalls are empty and there are no bystanders on these holy grounds. Normally it's very crowded here. Everyone is long gone after the announcement was made to stay at home, except the senshi are going to ignore the order to defend the city.

With a flick of her wrist, Sailor Uranus summons her sword talisman. She can sense he is different from Jadeite and Polaris. The question remains how different. She runs at him with her sword.

Danburite avoids Sailor Uranus' attack by side stepping it. "Is that the best you have?" He chooses his next words carefully from what he was told from Jadeite and Polaris. "I guess it wouldn't have made a difference if you were there to defend the Silver Millennium."

His words strike a nerve with the senshi.

Sailor Neptune reacts first. "Deep Submerge!"

Danburite anticipated an attack from Sailor Neptune; he just didn't know when it would be executed. He summons a large mass of black energy to deflect the attack into a vender stall behind him. He smirks at the stunned expressions on their faces. "I'm growing bored with you. You're not as strong as I thought you would be." He snaps his fingers and youma appear behind him. "If you happen to defeat them, then come find me at the temple steps." He turns around, showing them his back, a sign he does not see them as a threat. He walks a few steps forward before he vanishes.

Sailor Uranus moves closer to Sailor Neptune, closing the distance between them. "He's really cocky."

"Reminds me of someone else I know," Sailor Neptune teases; her shoulder just inches away from her partner.

Sailor Uranus turns to stare at Sailor Neptune for a moment. "My, my," is all she can muster back.

"Why was this temple picked? Does it mean something?" Sailor Neptune questions, redirecting her concentration to the task at hand.

Sailor Uranus raises her right hand in the air. "Only one way to find out." She summons orange yellow energy in the palm on her hand and closes her fist around the energy as it grows into a large circle. "World…" A ring of energy rises from the ground. "Shaking!" She slams the energy into the ground for a moment before is rises up and gains momentum until it reaches its target.

The youma is knocked back by the energy but it doesn't disappear as Uranus expected.

Uranus clicks her tongue in displeasure. With talisman still in hand, she rushes forward to slash it with the blade. The youma is sliced into two pieces and turns to dust. Using her talisman against each youma individually will take too long.

Sailor Neptune doesn't bother counting just how many youma are around. She just knows it is too many and it will take a while before she and her partner can defeat them all. But the task will be time consuming and draw out more of their energy. Energy they've spent this morning battling and teleporting to and from D Point. She looks into her mirror for a moment before she uses it against a few youma. "Submarine Reflection!" Aqua energy bursts out of the glass, destroying one youma and injuring a second. She takes a few steps back, moving closer to Uranus.

Without a word they both raise their arms to attack, their main attack has a wider range and they are hoping if they both attack at the same time, it will be effective in clearing out the youma. They are betting everything on this.

Sailor Star Fighter stands in a large dressing room, lost in thought for a moment. It was here she told Odango she loved her as Seiya and not to feel bad it was a one-sided love. She lets out a deep breath. Almost a year later, those same feelings have not faded as everyone hoped. She closes her eyes for a moment trying to push the feelings to the side and bury them. But spending time around Odango only brings all those feelings back to the surface.

Odango was supposed to happy, but she looks miserable. She'll be happy again after this battle is over, she has to be. Fighter tells herself.

"You coming?" Sailor Star Healer pops her head in the room, wondering what was taking Fighter so long. "What are you doing in there?"

Sailor Star Fighter shakes her head slightly to clear it, she can't think about the past right now when she is trying to stop a future event. "Sorry. I'm coming." She takes one quick glance around the room again before walking out and closing the door behind her. She redirects her focus to the task on hand. "Have you found anything?"

"No," Sailor Star Maker answers in annoyance. "Could this be a diversion?" She didn't know a lot about Queen Beryl but it would make sense to split up the senshi as much as possible. They never encountered any of her minions other than Jadeite, Polaris, and youma. She doesn't have enough people to be stretched out so thin.

Sailor Star Healer looks at the brains of the group. "You know, I've been thinking… maybe the premonition didn't include us… not because we weren't on Earth… but because we were away from the others and couldn't help them."

Sailor Star Fighter gasps at what Healer is suggesting. "We are wasting our time here. We have to get back to them and help."

Sodalite appears before the Starlights, preventing them from up and leaving. He has toyed with them long enough. "You're not going anywhere." He eyes his three opponents for a moment. "You will die here."

Sailor Star Healer's green eyes flash at the challenge. "If you're anything like the other guy, you're not going to be hard to beat." Her hand lowers to her hips, ready to attack at a moment's notice.

"Don't under estimate me," Sodalite snarls at them. He is going to show them how very wrong they are. He unleashes a round of black energy at them beginning their confrontation.

"I'm picking something up in the garden," Sailor Mercury checks the readings on her visor for a moment before pulling out her computer to confirm. "I'm trying to narrow down the location."

Sailor Mars understands it takes time for Sailor Mercury to pinpoint the information but she is inpatient. Every second they spend here is another second away from the others and they are going to need help.

Sailor Mercury continues to tap away. "I almost have it." A few seconds later the computer beeps. "Near Kiyomasa's Well."

Sailor Mars frowns. "The well is believed to bring luck and good fortune, along with positive energy," she explains. She doesn't like where this is going. If the well is corrupted, Queen Beryl might try to use the spiritual energy on these sacred grounds to boost her own energy.

Sailor Jupiter takes a different approach. "Hopefully that positive energy will give us a boost." She gives Sailor Mars a thumbs up gesture.

The senshi of flames looks at her for a moment before nodding her head. "I know exactly where it is. Let's go." She leads them into the garden grounds past the small booth for the donation fee to enter the gardens. She doesn't have time today and everything is locked up tight.

She pauses in front of the walk away. "Be careful with the steps up ahead. The cement steps have bamboo at the edge and are covered with a layer of wet dirt." She keeps this thought to herself but she is glad Sailor Moon is not here for this since the water makes these steps slick and she would definitely fall down them. Once they are the bottom of the stairs they pass Kakuun Tei, an ancient tea house.

The path continues downward to the South Pond and where Emperor Meiji had always liked to fish. She slows her pace to avoid tripping on the large steps. She waits at the bottom for Mercury and Jupiter before they continue.

They run alongside the barren fields that will be filled with purple irises in a few months during late spring. The path twists and turns a few times until they reach some platforms and a wooden path that intermingles with the flowers made of bamboo. The path starts to ascend and they slowly climb back up.

"How much further is the well?" Sailor Jupiter asks. She had been here once before but she doesn't remember it taking this long.

"Not too much left. The well is at the farthest end of the garden," Sailor Mars explains. After a few more minutes they arrive at their destination.

Sailor Mars pauses in front of the sign for the Kiyomasa Ido. She closes her eyes, searching for any evil presence. The seconds tick by and she finds nothing. She turns to the two girls behind her. "I don't sense anything."

"Maybe if we go closer to the well?" Sailor Jupiter suggested.

"While we're here, we should try touching the water for good luck," Sailor Mercury gestures to the sign and puts away her computer to prevent any water damage.

Sailor Mars blinks at her a few times before she smiles. "It wouldn't hurt to have a little extra luck on our side." She slowly descends the remaining steps down to the well, careful to keep her balance.

As they reach the bottom they come across a few smooth stones near the base of the well that continues to trickle out water without stopping. Since the area is lacking an evil presence, Sailor Mars takes her glove off first. She walks over the well and kneels down on the rocks next to the well. She lightly places her fingers in the cool water. Mentally she asks for the strength for what is about to come. With a small exhale she stands up, careful not to step off the surrounding stones. She walks the few steps back and moves to the side of the two senshi. She waits for her fingers to dry before she puts her right glove back on.

Sailor Jupiter repeats the same steps followed by Sailor Mercury.

The three girls stand quietly listening to the wind rustling some tree branches nearby.

Sailor Jupiter turns to Sailor Mars, "I hope this well can bring us some good luck, we might need it."

Sailor Mars and nods her head in agreement. "I still don't sense anything."

Sailor Mercury puts her glove back on and pulls out her computer. "I'll search the area again. What it was could have moved or disappeared."

"It's like they are playing a game with us," Sailor Jupiter comments putting her glove back on. She hates the feeling they are wasting time. Time they could be using to help Usagi in Juuban.

Sailor Mercury scans the screen. "I'm still showing readings that are somewhat nearby… but it is back were we entered the garden." She frowns at this change of events. "It was not there before."

"The enemy is moving around so we can't find them." Sailor Mars eyes narrow. "Just who are up against?"

Sailor Jupiter sighs. "I don't like this. What if the others need help and we are running around the shrine chasing something that might not be here." She hits her fist into her open hand, a sign of her frustration.

"I'm sure they can manage," Sailor Mercury tries to reassure the others. They need to be able to think things out calmly. If they can't focus they are more likely to make mistakes. "I think this is the enemies' goal," She suddenly speaks. "Make us angry so we will rush ahead and not be cautious or have so many dead ends we're not prepared since we let our guard down."

"Then we approach this with a cool head and treat each signature as one that could be where the enemy is." Sailor Mars looks at the two senshi beside her. They nod their heads at each other and ascend the steps back up to the garden.

Sailor Pluto and Sailor Saturn walk around the open plaza space. Their heels echo loudly on the empty ground.

"I've been meaning to come here since this area was built. I just wish it was under different circumstances," Sailor Pluto breaks the silence.

Sailor Saturn smiles at the thought of being here along with Haruka and Michiru. "It is my first time here also." She pauses for a moment to reflect on one of the more difficult times in her life. "I used to look at this island from Mugen as it was being created. I always wanted to come here too." Before she can continue, they hear a loud noise behind them. She turns around.

Sailor Pluto gasps loudly at the sight. Up ahead are rows and rows of red youma. It was similar to what they had seen at D Point this morning. She bites her lip slightly. It's only the two of them versus a small army. She already has an idea how it will play out and she doesn't like it. "Save some of your strength for later. I know you have recovered most of it since this morning but we don't what we will face after this."

Sailor Saturn turns to Sailor Pluto. "That attack is too dangerous to use here," she explains. She twists her glaive in her hands, preparing to use the blade. "It would destroy most of the island. All I had to worry about this morning was snow." She will use the attack if she must as a last resort. But they are not at that point.

Sailor Pluto nods her head and summons her energy for an attack. "Dead Scream…" A purple ball of energy tears through the youma, many of them turning to dust. Seeing how quickly they broke down gives her hope. Perhaps these youma were significantly weaker than the ones they faced this morning.

Sailor Saturn rushes at a few youma with her glaive, using the blade to slice them apart. Her previous training from Haruka is being used wisely against her adversaries.

Polaris bows her head as a sign of respect to her Master. She waits until her Master to speak before she dares to raises her head.

"Have you learned which galaxy this being went to?" She asks. She is frustrated everything is so close to be within her grasp but she can't do anything that could affect the end result.

Polaris shakes her head in dismay. She wants to be done here so she can return to fight for her Master, not some old Queen with an ancient grudge. "No. Nothing is familiar here. She is in one of the far corners of the galaxy." She pauses for a moment. "The being that was released calls herself Queen Beryl and she is determined to kill someone she refers to as the Moon Princess."

"Moon Princes…" the Master repeats thinking out loud. "Throughout the galaxies there have been many Lunar kingdoms."

Polaris can't take it anymore. There has to be a simpler way. Why is the Master acting like this? "I don't understand why you don't just open a portal to my location?"

The Master shakes her head. "I cannot step foot on that planet yet. My mere presence there too soon will throw everything off balance. I cannot risk it. I have finally set everything in the motion and now I must let it play out or all of this has been for nothing." She eyes Polaris carefully to make sure there is no misunderstanding with her instructions. "That is why you are there to find out as much as you can. When the time it right, I can finally fulfil my role and all the galaxies will be mine."

Polaris nods her head. She thinks the Master is being too cautious… yet everything has played out just as the Master predicted. There must be some truth to her words. "The Animates arrived a few days ago. I relayed the instructions you gave me." She pouts her lips slightly. "Are you sure Queen Beryl will fail?"

The Master smiles. "She will succeed in her own way." The Master looks at one of her most talented subordinates. It's a shame, but it has to be done. "Do everything in your power to help her." The transmission ends.

Sailor Moon is anxious. She can't shake the nervousness in her stomach. She wishes everyone was here with her but she has no way of knowing how the others are doing. She doesn't want to contact Sailor Mars and the others in case they are trying to find the enemy. The communication could reveal their location. She has no way to contact the Outer Senshi or the Starlights. They were the ones to leave first… what if… she stops herself.

"It's going to be okay Usako," Tuxedo Kamen's voice interrupts her thoughts. He can tell she is struggling. He reaches over to grab her hand and gives it a tight squeeze for encouragement. They have been through the park twice and they have not found anything. Was this a mistake to be here? Yet the dark cloud still looms above. He needs to reassure Sailor Moon and try to keep her focused.

Sailor Venus glances around the open space. They are near a statue of a man on a horse, Prince Arisugawa Taruhito. Normally there would be children at the playground nearby but today it is vacant, giving it an eerie appearance. "I don't understand why they chose this park." She feels a little out of place being with Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Kamen, as if she is intruding on time they are meant to have together. She knows she is being silly. She is here to help protect them. Her duty as a senshi from the time she was at the Silver Millennium, to Crystal Tokyo and beyond is to keep Princess Serenity safe. She plans on fulling that purpose with everything she has. No matter what it may cost. "I hope the others are doing okay," she comments softly in an effort to downplay her own concern.

Sailor Moon nods her head slightly. "We have to believe everyone will be all right." She is trying to reassure herself as she comforts Sailor Venus.

"You should worry about yourself more," Jadeite's voice rings out from somewhere nearby.

Sailor Moon, Sailor Venus, and Tuxedo Kamen move their heads side to side trying to pinpoint Jadeite's location.

"Jadeite," Tuxedo Kamen calls the other man's name while he draws his cane for battle. His voice displays his frustration at the situation.

Jadeite laughs and the sound echoes throughout the empty park. "You seem to think using a cane will help you… put only if you can control it!" In the shadows he waves his hands, activating his psychic abilities.

Tuxedo Kamen can feel the cane in his hand being pulled at by some invisible force. He tries to grip it tighter before it's too late.

But Jadeite is faster.

The cane is ripped from his hand and soars through the air like it has a mind of its own, heading straight to Sailor Venus.

Sailor Venus sees the object coming right at her and she has seconds to respond. Luckily she has good reflexes in battle. "Venus Love Me Chain!" She summons her heart chain to grasp the cane and swings it around trying to slow the movement gradually. If she stopped it too suddenly, it would have hit her in the face. Once the cane is in her hands, she releases her chain, the energy dissipating. The cane feels normal to her. She returns it to Tuxedo Kamen. He will need it more.

Tuxedo Kamen looks at the cane in his hand for a moment before shouting at Jadeite, "you're going to have to try a lot harder!"

Jadeite laughs in response. "I never said I was trying yet." There is a long pause before he continues. "Now that Queen Beryl has all the energy she needs to return to this world. I don't have to hold back anymore and you'll find that I'm stronger than I was the last time." His voice echoes throughout the playground. He unleashes a dark bolt of energy against them.

Tuxedo Kamen tries to block the energy with dozens of roses but Jadeite's powers are stronger and the three of them are blasted back.

Jadeite materializes before them to gloat.

Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune are breathing heavily as they look around at the remains of the youmas surrounding them.

"There were more than I thought." Sailor Uranus stutters between breaths. She feels exhausted, like she just ran a several kilometer race.

Sailor Neptune nods her head in agreement. Taking a few deep breathes before she responds. "They seemed to be endless." Her gaze turns to the temple up ahead in the distance. "We still have Queen Beryl's general." Her voice sounds strained. "And then after him there are all the other locations in Tokyo."

Sailor Uranus shakes her head in annoyance. "The enemy did a good job to split us up but we not going to lose," she sounds a lot more confident than she feels. She knows she is putting on a show trying to appear unfazed by recent events. She also knows that Neptune sees right through her.

Sailor Neptune smiles at her partner. "I know how much you hate to lose anything." She nods at her to acknowledge she is ready to move to the main temple building.

The two walk side by side down the rest of the long walkway to the temple steps. They conserve their energy by walking slower. Running to their destination would be a waste of much needed energy they simply don't have. They don't speak to each other as they mentally prepare for the battle they are going to face. One they sense could be their last.

Their eyes search around the pathway for any changes as they remain on guard, watching, waiting for something to happen. They pass the large Jokoro, the incense burner. They follow tradition for a few moments breathing in the incense before they approach the main steps. They last thing they want to do is further anger any spirits that linger here with the battle they are about to face.

Sailor Neptune pauses for a moment. "Something feels off."

"I can sense something too but I don't see anything. Isn't that guy supposed to be here?" Sailor Uranus counters back, staring at the temple steps.

"You're not looking hard enough," Polaris states as she moves from behind the Jade Pond, a water fountain that has not been turn on yet. She stands less than a meter from the temple steps.

Danburite walks down the center row of the main steps of the temple, flicking some of his emerald green hair to the side. "I'm surprised the youma didn't finish you off." He hesitates to look at them and truly acknowledge their presence for the first time. "Since you made it this far, I will tell you my name. It's Danburite."

Polaris continues, "The youma might not have finished you off, but we will." She pauses to emphasize her next statement. "Then we will kill your Princess." She smiles at the look of anger that crosses Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune's faces when she speaks of killing their Princess.

"That will never happen!" Sailor Uranus shouts at her in anger. She is about to lose her composure and is too tired to care. "World Shaking!"

Polaris waves a black crystal in front of her to absorb the energy from Sailor Uranus' attack.

Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune gasp at this new development taking a few steps back. If they can't attack Polaris, they don't know how they can defeat her.

"Care to try again?" She taunts them.

Sailor Neptune narrows her eyes. She summons an aqua ball of energy. "Deep Submerge!" The attack looks like it is directed at Polaris but seems to move at the last minute to the side to strike Danburite who pulls out his own crystal and absorbs the attack.

Danburite exchanges a quick glance with Polaris before both of them begin to attack Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus in unison.

The two senshi were not prepared for such a powerful counterattack and cry out in pain as the dark energy knocks them backward. Their reflexes are slower due to exhaustion and there was no way they could have avoided this attack.

When the blast clears, the two senshi have their backs leaning against another on the ground, struggling to remain in an upright position. Everything hurts.

"That didn't quite work out as planned," Sailor Uranus whispered just loud enough for Sailor Neptune to hear.

Sailor Neptune smiles slightly thinking of Uranus's plan to defeat Galaxia. "It usually doesn't."

They sit in silence for a few moments. Neither will say it out loud but they know they are exhausted already and they don't have an ace up their sleeve this time.

"No matter what, we're taking them with us," Sailor Uranus struggles to keep her voice even knowing what she is implying. But she has to be realistic of their situation.

"Of course," Sailor Neptune immediately agrees. "I wouldn't have it any other way."

The two slow raise themselves up from the ground on shaky legs. Each clutching their talisman in their hands, ready to give it their all. They switch appointments.

Sailor Uranus rushes forward at Danburite with her Space Sword, wondering if he will try to, or rather be able to absorb any energy from a physical attack.

Sailor Neptune uses her mirror on the crystal, hoping the magic from her mirror will disrupt the power of the crystal. "Submarine Reflection!"

After she tries to slash him a few times with her blade, Sailor Uranus unleashes the talismans power. "Space Sword Blaster!"

This time her attack catches him off guard and he staggers back. He was anticipating another attempt at a physical blow. He didn't have enough time for the crystal to try to absorb the energy.

While Sailor Uranus attacks, Polaris manages to overpower Sailor Neptune with assistance from the black crystal. Sailor Neptune screams when the dark energy hits her in her already weakened state. She curses herself for not blocking the attack. She body hits the pavement hard and doesn't move.

"Michiru!" Sailor Uranus shouts when she sees Sailor Neptune landing on the pavement, unresponsive. It reminded her of the time Sailor Neptune tried to save her from Eudial attempting to collect their pure heart crystals. She is so focused on her partner she ignores the man she was fighting with a few seconds ago.

Danburite had collapsed to one knee after he was attacked by the power of the talisman. He had underestimated the power the two senshi possess. He will not make that mistake again.

Polaris smiles as the events unfold before here. One senshi down and by the look of it, Sailor Uranus will be gone soon as well.

I've tried to keep this story accurate to late 1990s Tokyo but the Odaiba described here is present day. Thought I removed mentions of the Gundam Unicorn statue. I decided to write locations that I know.

Kiyomasa's Well became popular around 2010, but it existed long before then.

Please head over to my Tumblr account under sorakazeno for additional content. I have several entries with pictures and a little more detail about Odaiba, Meiji Shrine, Arisugawa Park, and Sensoji were each of the battles are taking place. There is nothing for the Tokyo Dome since I haven't been there yet.

The battle continues in the next part and it only going to become more deadly. How will the senshi fare? Find out in Act 10: Nothing Can Stand Against our Might, available on September 16th.

Bonus points if you know where a lot of these act titles have come from. ^_^
