In another time, in a different reality, Tarrlok had been accused of abducting Avatar Korra and later exposed as a hidden blood bender soon after. This, while shocking those who were unaware of his dangerous abilities, gave the councilman the upper hand in rendering the unsuspecting group unconscious and giving him the means to escape unimpeded...

But that was a different reality.

One that was beginning to hold zero sway over the current divergence that was starting to unfold.

Clenching and unclenching her fist, Asami glared with tension exuding her form at the audacity of a man that was responsible for taking her friend. To hear him, for him to try and pretend that he was anything but the lying, conniving bastard that he was...well, it took a lot of restraint from calling him out on it.

Spirit knows what it took for the others from doing the same. Mako especially.

But they had a plan, and knew to stick with it. They could not afford to let their emotions get the best of them during a time as sensitive as this so instead, like her, most of those who were aware of Tarrlok's actions merely stewed in their shared dislike of the man and only glared.

Failure wasn't an option.

Nor will it be.

Hand twitching, body shifting ever so slightly, Asami and the two other teens watch as Tarrlok steps further into the room, around the large crater in the middle of the floor, and down the aisle that leads between them.

All while barely sparing them so much as a glance.

If he wasn't such a dangerous blood bender who could stop her with a twitch of his finger, Asami had half a mind to simply hit him in that smug face of his with him being unable to react fast enough to stop her. With her skills it was possible and restraining him would be as simple as that. But she couldn't...no matter how tempting it was.

If Tarrlok noticed the hostile looks that he was getting from the three teens he didn't show it, as he paid them little mind and focused his attention on the more important matter that was in front of him.

He had enough dealing with angry annoying children for one day thank you.

Still...his apprehension of the situation has yet to leave him.

And he still for the life of him hasn't the slightest clue as to why.

Tenzin: Tarrlok, it's good that you finally made it.

Tenzin's expression gave nothing away, as he stood before the round council table watching as the approaching blood bender stopped just short of the steps that would level him with his fellow colleagues. His false mask in place and perfectly etched to that of a concerned human being.

It was sickening.

Tarrlok: Of course. This is a grave situation that needs all of our utmost attention after all.

Said Tarrlok as he regarded Tenzin with a simple nod despite his reservations. Taking a moment to sweep his gaze to regard each of his fellow council members and the new Chief of police, Tarrlok made sure he had each of their undivided attention before going along with the plan of action he decided upon on his way here.

It was sometimes best to make the first move.

Tarrlok: With that being said, while finding the Avatar should be our utmost top priority, I would like to present that we should also enforce stricter methods when it comes to dealing with the equalists. Now that Amon has Avatar Korra who knows what plans he has for our fair city now that his biggest obstacle has been removed.

He finished, and withheld a small smirk as he spied three of his fellow colleagues quickly considered the sudden proposal before deeming it appropriate and nodding their agreement. Saikhan on the other hand, the man appeared to be contemplating still. That just won't do. He'll need to probe more to convince the fool of a chief to his way of thinking but it wouldn't be too difficult. He'll see the sense in his words and if not, well, he would do well to remember who helped him get his position in the first place.

As for Tenzin and Lin beifong...

Their opinion was irrelevant. As long as he could convince the majority on this council to vote his way then he'll win no matter what. He'll be in control of the board.

He'll be the one to come out on top.

Speaking of being in control...

Councilwoman: Tarlook makes a valid point. With this latest and quite frankly blatant attack in the heart of our city government, not to mention Avatar Korra's capture, who knows what action the equalist would take next. It's all too clear they are becoming more and more out of control.

Sparing a discreet glance in his direction, the older woman garb in fire nation's attire gave Tarrlok a subtle nod in compliance to which he acknowledged in turn. Ahh, to be owed a favor.

It was politics at its finest.

Earth Nation Councilman: I Agree. Perhaps we should also consider contacting the united forces.

Water Tribe Councilman: And be looked down upon for having to call in our military to handle a small group of terrorists? The other nations would think us incompetent.

Earth Nation Councilman: These "small group of terrorists" have already accomplished far more than we ever thought they would and it would no doubt get worse. Military action should be seriously considered, and it would go a long way towards reassuring the public.

Saikhan: The entire police force is enough to keep the peace.

Saikhan interjected with a frown mirroring his expression.

Saikhan: Calling in military support would only further the unrest and show the citizens that the situation is becoming increasingly dangerous. My forces are enough.

Earth Nation Councilman: Yes, because they proved to have done a fine job of that already.

The sarcastic remark was met with an irritated scowl that then devolved into a minor argument that pitted the three men against each other, and Tarrlok couldn't be more pleased to see the results of his words. Call him callous, but he enjoys making people go against one another. It further proves just how in control he truly is and that's part of the course to achieve all of his desires.

Albeit, he couldn't help but spare a quick glance to the side and suspiciously eyed both Tenzin and Beifong who stood silently in their place watching the current proceedings happening before them. It was...odd, especially considering how Tenzin isn't stepping in in an attempt to appease the situation as the peaceful monk he irritatingly loves to play...No, let's not worry about that now. He can deal with it later.

For now, he needs to be the one to placate all parties involved and spin it in such a way that they would see that his course of action is what's best-

Tenzin: While I agree that Amon and the equalist are increasingly becoming more of a problem, I would like to correct that they actually don't have Korra in their possession.

The casual interjection of Tenzin's words was immediately met with confusion and disbelief for those unaware, and though he knew how it would be received, Tenzin's eyes never strayed from the wide eyed gaze of Tarrlok who stood frozen before him.

Impossible

A cold chill ran down Tarrlok's spine as he met the stone gaze that belonged to the only master Airbender in the whole world.

Surely he doesn't know

There was no way he could. There was no evidence, no witnesses, nothing that could have given himself away that it was him. Absolutely nothing.

Yet...

This feeling. Those knowing eyes. He was missing something but he wasn't sure what. Maybe he was just seeing things. Maybe...yes, yes that must be it. There was no way this fool could possibly know.

"Just what is your game Tenzin?"

A thought that was similar yet held different intent as Saikhan regarded Tenzin curiously.

Saikhan: What do you mean Tenzin? Are you saying Avatar Korra escaped the equalists somehow?

Lin: He's saying the equalists never had Korra to begin with.

Lin interrupted, her voice sharp and to the point as she folded her arms while scowling at the shock faces that all turned to face her. She had enough of this charade playing out and wasn't going to let it drag more than they needed it to, better to expose Tarrlok quickly to give the snake little time to recover with that acid tongue of his.

A fact that Tarrlok was quickly coming to realize as that unsettling feeling he had was practically screaming at him now. He knew they couldn't have found anything that could have proven just where Korra was when it came to the equalist, but that shouldn't have led to anything of him being connected somehow. He needed to quickly remedy this. Turn this back around to his advantage.

Feigning his expression to one of disbelief, then quickly outrage, Tarrlok took a step forward and sent a heated glare at the two individuals whose always been a thorn to his side.

Tarrlok: What are you saying? I just explained earlier the events that transpired last night with Korra and the appearance of the equalist. Are you accusing me of lying Beifong? Because that's nothing more than a baseless accusation!!

He shouted in indignation. The anger in his voice barely having to be an act as he threw his arm to the side and twitched his fingers with no conscious thought. Lin was hardly phased by the provoked bloodbender and simply stared at Tarrlok while continuing to ensure he had no way out of all this.

Lin: That's exactly what I'm saying Tarrlok. You fooled all of us into thinking that the equalist were the ones responsible for taking Korra, but that was nothing more than a convenient lie.

Lin unfolded her arms and began to walk dangerously close towards the hidden bloodbender to the dismay of the others, but as they trusted that Lin knew what she was doing they held their place and watch for any need to intervene.

Lin: You planted those evidence.

Tarrlok: How dare you-

Lin: You claimed it was the equalist, but then I have to ask myself just why they also didn't take you. It would have been easy, simple really since you were, after all, unconscious.

Her steps were slow and deliberate, emphasized by the meaning of her words as she closed the distance with just a few inches remaining between them... only for Lin to brush past Tarrlok with barely a glance. Agitated as he was, Tarrlok was compelled to turn his head to follow her movement with warily eyes as she seemed to almost appear like a predator circling her prey.

Tarrlok: I clearly wasn't their target-

Lin: And yet you're everything they hate about benders. So I find that hard to believe.

She walked out of his peripheral vision and slowly circled his back, unnerving the bloodbender as he felt the former chief of police's undeniable presence coming to a stop just a few paces behind him.

Tarrlok: ...Well have you ever considered that they use me as some twisted form of a messenger?

He thought up quickly, though annoyingly. Turning his head to the other side to spare Beifong a brief look over his shoulder before shifting his focus back to Tenzin and the others.

Tarrlok: To spread the word that they managed to not only capture the Avatar but subdue a councilman that they could have taken if they wanted?

With each word that left his lips he sent an imploring look to each of his three fellow members and Saikhan to convince them to heed his truth. To discredit the accusations being placed on him and displaying just how innocent he was of them. As much as Beifong try to label him as anything but the "upstanding individual" that he was, there was still a fact that couldn't be ignored.

There was no evidence.

A fact that he would gladly take advantage of as he turned sideways to have both groups within his line of sight.

Tarrlok: What reason could I possibly have? If you're honestly implying that I had something to do with Korra's disappearance, then by all means Beifong, where is the evidence?

The situation was getting intense, and more than a few heads were turning to make sense of what was occurring before them. They actually were very aware of what was being said and understood the accusations perfectly. It was just the implications of said accusations that boggled their minds.

A councilman having a hand in the disappearance of the Avatar?

It was preposterous.

Simply inconceivable.

...And the fallout possibly being even greater than if the equalist were the one to truly have taken her.

Councilwoman: Beifong, this is a very serious accusation you're presenting to us. While Tarrlok's actions may have been a little extreme in the past and disagreeable to some, but to say this...I too would like to see this evidence if you can present one.

The elderly councilwoman garbed in fire nation attire spoke up and looked to her water tribe and earth nation colleagues to see that they too were of mind with her. All wanting answers and unknowingly fueling Tarrlok's confidence into thinking he already has three council members leaning more on his side.

Saikhan on the other hand was unusually quiet. His attention shifting between both Tenzin and Beifong as he looked closely at the two like he had since entering the building. He knew something was up. Notice by the way they had held off on sharing what information they gleaned on their stunt involving the equalist base they raided. There was a reason they refused to talk about it, and he began to wonder if the current situation had something to do with it.

Little did he know.

Over to Tarrlok, the hidden blood bender held nothing back as he stared in open challenge at Lin Beifong and mockingly motion with a wave of his hand at the so called proof that he was sure was next to none.

"Humph, fools. Did you think you could have one over on me?"

The Sheer Audacity.

Tarrlok: Well Beifong? We're all waiting for this proof. Unless of course, you don't have anything substantial.

Tenzin: We do actually.

Tarrlok's brow twitches at Tenzin once again interjecting in that calm casual manner of his. It was always vexing hearing his voice. Always trying to sound wise and being a know-it-all enlighten monk that knew better. It was one of the reasons he found out speaking him in most things so...gratifying.

Barely concealing the annoyance that was visible on his face, Tarrlok turn to face the stone face monk and spoke through gritted teeth at the sight of his most annoying adversary.

Tarrlok: You do, do you? Well, let's see it then Tenzin. Show everyone here the so called proof of the accusations you would dare accuse me of. I admit, I'm curious to hear just what you have to say.

"Which is nothing at all"

But despite his words, and despite his overwhelming confidence in his deception. There was no comprehending just what he felt at Tenzin's odd stare as if he would prove him wrong.

Tenzin: For those of you who don't know, we recently mounted a rescue attempt on an equalist base in the hopes to free Korra and the two captured officers.

He began, his gaze sweeping through everyone present and making sure to project his voice loud enough for all those around to hear.

Tenzin: And though we succeeded in at least saving the officers, we were unable to locate Korra anywhere inside the equalist large underground prison. At first we had mistakenly assumed that she was simply kept elsewhere but after diving deeper into the prison and passing a number of equalists we...found something, or more accurately someone.

Lin: We found another prisoner.

Lin immediately took that as her cue to take over and brought everyone's attention back on her, yet her eyes were only for Tarrlok. Things were now entering dangerous territory, and she needed to be ready to act if the sly snake decided to finally shed his skin.

Lin: A prisoner that overheard crucial information being relayed to Amon about what really happened here last night in this building.

She pauses to really let her words sink in. To let it register for everyone just where she was going with this. It lasted for only a moment as she notice the panic that pass through Tarrlok's eyes, and just as he was about to open his mouth to no doubt sprout whatever nonsense he could think of, Lin beat him to it as she went in for the kill and lay bare all his sins for all to see.

Lin: It turns out Tarrlok not only lied about not having anything to do with Korra's disappearance last night, but he in actuality had in fact attacked and kidnapped her by subduing her with the use of...Blood bending.

Shock spread and many gasped out loudly in surprise. All looks of disbelief, fear, and a bit of wariness showed at the mention of the foul forbidden art, and why wouldn't it? It was illegal for a reason after all.

Slowly and tentatively, all eyes turn to the very man said to have such an ability and Tarrlok...Tarrlok just stood rooted in place under everyone's scrutiny.

Fuming with such rage that the veins in his neck was practically bulging.

Lin: Tarrlok is a Blood bender-

Tarrlok: Enough!!

Fury ripped through Tarrlok's voice as he shouted at everyone and everything. His eyes were bloodshot, his body stiff, and though it was subtle, too subtle for anyone to actually see and notice, his fingers twitched with a rigidness and held in a gesture similar to...pulling strings.

Tarrlok: I will not sit here and be accused of this utter nonsense. This is a complete farce and mockery to this very room of law!!

Tarrlok's mind was a mess of different thoughts and solutions to the predicament he found himself in. Never could he have predicted for the one secret he would never have wanted to be known to have left the lips of Lin Beifong of all people.

Tarrlok: Honestly, Blood bending? Of all the things, and what's worse is the information coming from the mouth of an equalist of all people. There wasn't even a full moon, how are we to believe such a thing!!

He tried reasoning, tried to get rid of those annoying anxious stares but...the idea was already planted and had little effect. They simply refuse to go away.

It made him all the more angrier.

Those eyes.

Those damn annoying eyes.

Looking at him the same way he... the same way he had looked at him.

Fear.

Suspicion.

Something that shouldn't be.

...A Monster.

It all left a foul taste in his mouth.

He could handle being called a liar, or even accused of kidnapping the Avatar. Hell, he would even take being a secret equalist supporter. But to be found out about his curse ability in the same manner and room as his damn donor...that just made him feel truly sick and disgusted with his entire being.

Tenzin: It came from the mouth of a trustworthy witness.

Tarrlok: A prisoner who heard it from an equalist, who I might add are our enemies. How do we know this isn't some ploy to divide us? That they forced and filled this prisoner's head to say whatever they wanted. They're unreliable!!

Asami: Unreliable?

Bristling at the insult on Y/N's behalf, Asami stepped forward just behind Beifong who cut her off, with clear intentions of not letting what Tarrlok said slide.

Asami: That's my friend you're talking about, and he's ten times more reliable than you'll ever be in your entire life.

There was a fire lit behind those fierce green eyes of hers as she sent an insult of her own at the most dangerous man in the room.

But she didn't care.

She was as fearless and determined as she's always been, despite being the only non bender in the room.

Asami: He isn't some equalist puppet. He's too strong for that.

What did he know of what her friend had been through? Of what the equalist did during his captivity?

Nothing.

Not a goddamn thing.

And here he is having the gall to accuse him of being unreliable.

The very notion just pisses her off.

Asami: So if Y/N says he overheard you being the one responsible for Korra's disappearance and being a bloodbender, then I believe him.

With words filled with conviction and her resolve ironclad, Asami held her narrow gaze at the baffled blood bender who quickly sneered at her in response.

Tarrlok: Y/N? That brute who's in relations with Korra?

A few brows twitch at the mere question, but as for who and for what reason remains a mystery.

Tarrlok: He's your reliable source? The one who was a equalist prisoner until recently? It sounds to me like a lover who's looking to place blame on anyone regardless of rationality.

Asami and Mako nearly lashed out at the insinuation but was thankfully held under control by both Bolin who held his brother back and Beifong who continued to block Asami's path.

Lin: Oh come off it Tarrlok, the jig's up. You lost. Now surrender and come quietly. I don't need to remind you that you're surrounded do I?

It was then that everything started to click. The escort retrieving him from his home, the dozen police officers surrounding the building both outside and in, and him walking right in the center of it all being none the wiser.

He was condemned the moment he stepped foot in the building.

Dammit all!! He's been played. It didn't matter what he said or done, he was never leaving out of this unless it was in cuffs. This can not stand. It will not!! He refuse to be beaten, to be outplayed by a bunch of insufferable imbeciles.

Tarrlok: This is madness. Utter madness!! Are we all going to sit here and place the blame all on me? Because I failed in preventing Avatar Korra's capture and now being made to believe that I am responsible and know an illegal art? This is slander!! I'm being wrongly accused, I'm innocent-

Saikhan: Then you have nothing to worry about Tarrlok.

Saikhan interrupted, finally interjecting and stepping forward with a slight frown on his face.

There was a moment where Lin and the others thought Saikhan would actually choose to side with Tarrlok and come to his defense. Even Tarrlok thought the same when he turned with a slight smile forming to face the man, but unfortunately, whatever hope or expectation Tarrlok had in Saikhan was immediately shattered upon hearing his next words.

Saikhan: If you're truly innocent as you say then there shouldn't be any problem with cooperating as we began a full investigation. Until then you're being placed under arrest for the suspicion of harboring the Avatar and the use of the illegal art known as Blood bending. Surrender peacefully and we can get this all sorted out.

...Huh?

Sweat was now trickling down Tarrlok's brow as he stood frozen in place with his mouth agape, flabbergasted beyond belief.

Surely he heard wrong.

There was no way he was told that he was being arrested. Absolutely no way. Him? A councilman in cuffs going behind bars? Ludicrous. Completely so. He was to be a savior, not a criminal.

And yet...

Seeing the self satisfied looks on Tenzin and Beifong's faces, along with spotting two officers leaving their position to come towards where he stood...left him considering otherwise.

"This wasn't happening"

His hand twitched.

"This wasn't how everything was supposed to go"

His fingers curled.

"I can't let it end like this. I can't lose like this"

Once he got his grip.

"If I'm going down-"

He didn't let go.

"I refuse to go quietly"

Everything was fine for but a moment...until a painful scream shattered the peace and forced everyone to face and see with dread a body floating in the air.

Withering in agony.

Mako: ASAMI!!!

Serra: Why can't I see her?

Asked the annoyed bandage head brunette, who stood with her arms crossed while staring down at the sitting doctor who pause in the middle of writing his latest medical report.

The sigh that she got in response wasn't a welcome one, and seeing as he turned to face her with a frown and tired eyes, so would be his answer.

Doctor: As I told you before Serra, your friend Yami is still under strict confinement. No one is allowed to see her.

Serra: And why's that? Earlier that was to get her injuries treated since she wasn't being cooperative. That I can understand, but now that some time has passed I don't see why she's unable to receive visitors now simply for that same reason alone.

Again the good doctor let out a sigh and pinch between his nose in frustration. She was sure that the amount of workload he was under was finally getting to him and her pestering him probably wasn't helping in that regard. Even so, she had good reason to question his words.

It's been hours since the emergency alarm ended (which by the way didn't help her raging headache) and everything apparently being over. But whatever information on all that occurred was scarce and intentionally being withheld.

The only thing she was sure of was the infiltration of intruders and, courtesy of their latest batch of injured, the unfortunate escape of Y/N...

She wasn't sure how she was suppose to personally feel about that last bit of detail, but then decided to not dwell on it too much. It was just a shame that all their efforts and sacrifice has now basically been for nothing.

Or maybe it should have never happened.

A voice softly whispered to her, sounding strangely like her own. It made her pause for a heartbeat of a second before quickly shaking her head and putting it out of mind.

"It was just the wind"

No point in thinking about it.

Instead, she had tried probing for more information from the conscious injured but other than what transpired in the fights they took part in, there wasn't much to go on.

She did notice though earlier one of the members that were in charge of sorting out the new injured whisper into a doctor's ear and had them quickly follow them out the room. That was the first clue she got of something being up, But when she tried asking another member that had walked in and was the partner to the one before, they only told her what she already knew and had refused disclosing further information. That was the second clue.

Yeah, something major definitely happened, and she wasn't sure why it was being withheld from her. She was a pretty high rank within the revolution so important information such as all that fully transpired on the assault on their base should be relayed to her. The only reason it wouldn't is if someone with higher authority made it so.

And that wasn't many people.

Doctor: Can't tell you even if I knew. Only that Yami is strictly forbidden from having anyone visit her. Probably having a meltdown after hearing about that mercenary getting away.

Probably.

She could definitely see that, yet it felt like so much more.

There was something in the air.

She seen it by the way those two members she mentioned held themselves and those passing by her section of the infirmary. They were on edge and much too guarded. She needed to know what was happening and why.

Serra: Fine. If I can't see her then can I at least check on Yoroh. He should be out of surgery now right?

She asked with a hint of worry, swapping one hand on her hip and the other towards her throbbing temple. She was greatly concerned for her friend but this will also allow her to leave and get a better understanding of what's been happening around the base.

As if contemplating her request, the doctor didn't answer right away and merely spared her another glance before waving her off and returning back to his work.

Doctor: He's in room 78. Though don't be disappointed if he's still sleeping off the medication. He needs his rest.

Serra smiled gratefully at the doctor and immediately turned to face the exit, her feet already taking her to her no doubt sleeping friend.

Serra: Thanks Doc, and don't worry. I don't plan on giving Yoroh a tough time anymore than he already has. Just want to check on him.

Hearing what was a faint grunt of acknowledgment behind her, Serra grins and went about leaving the doctor and the infirmary room she was in. Once out into the hall, she immediately frowns as she moves slowly in the direction of Yoroh's room, taking care to pay close attention to those she passes by.

There were few members walking about, some going about their business in their duties while others came and went for whatever reason. She watched them, study them. Judging whether her suspicions could be confirmed.

But ultimately, there wasn't a lot she could go on.

"This isn't the best of places for intel. I'll have to see what I can do after visiting Yoroh"

Nodding to herself with her mind made up, the hazel eyed brunette continued her trek down the long hall and soon around a sharp corner.

Not once realizing the few eyes trailing behind her.

It Hurts.

Spirits, it hurts beyond anything she ever felt before in her entire life.

The feeling of having your body, your blood, your very will stripped from you and under the control of another to do with however they please...it was terrifying.

No one should have this kind of power.

No one should be subjected to this awful feeling.

It was inhumane. Something that should have never been...

A silent scream left Asami's lips as she was raised higher into the air and jerked at an odd angle, her back arching and her arms twisting uncomfortably. She tried to resist, tried fighting for control of her own body, but the pain only intensified.

It was horrible.

Mako: ASAMI!!

Mako's voice shouted below her and she wish she could turn to face him to say something...anything. To cry, yell, scream for him to help her-anything to stop the terrible pain she was experiencing. But no matter how hard she tried her body refuse to listen.

It was too much.

It hurts too much.

Help me

She tried saying.

Someone...anyone, Help me!!

The pain only got worse.

Voices began overlapping and rose in volume to the point of it being incomprehensible, and though difficult to concentrate through all the pain, Asami was able to make out one voice in particular that shouted over the current chaos that was happening below.

Tenzin: Tarrlok release her!!

Tenzin demanded, and if she wasn't already forced to stare up at the emerald dome ceiling above, Asami was sure he and many others were in their bending stance facing the mad Blood bender who currently had her at his mercy.

Tarrlok: I don't think so, Tenzin.

She heard him spat out defiantly.

Tarrlok: If you or anyone here so much as make a move to apprehend me-

A faint cry, and she was jerked like a puppet on strings towards Tarrlok and held over his head. This, while in a more painful angle, gave Asami the opportunity to face everyone below and see with misty eyes their very own expressions mirroring hers.

Horror.

Tarrlok: Then who knows what might happen to my hostage.

Mako: You bastard.

Mako growled menacingly and barely took a step forward out of sheer rage before holding himself back. Alas, it was all Tarrlok needed to prove his point as he flexed his fingers and twist the neck of Asami who whimpered in pain at the action.

Tarrlok: Ah ah ah. I said, Don't. Move.

The threat was clear and real, and Mako had little choice but to look angrily frustrated while casting a worried glance at Asami who was twitching in clear pain. There was no way he could just sit here and do nothing. Not while she was in obvious need of help but...what can he do?

How can he hope to save her from the control of a Blood bender who could stop him with a gesture or worse, go through with his threat of possibly...killing Asami.

Cold dread filled his soul at the very image and was enough to completely still his hand.

He couldn't risk that.

He couldn't risk Asami's safety like that.

...He felt helpless.

Tarrlok: Now then, if any of you don't want anything happening to Ms. Sato here, I suggest you do as I say.

There was hesitancy and angry faces all around him but Tarrlok felt a little at ease in knowing he at least had the upper hand of the situation once again.

Even if barely.

Dammit.

It was all going so wrong.

Everything was going so wrong.

Now the situation has come to this due to his moment of panic and it left him with no other choice but to commit.

Dammit all.

Sweeping his gaze through everyone present and evaluating his options, Tarrlok would ideally, have like nothing more than to utilize his Blood bending to incapacitate everyone in the room. But with the amount of people present, that would require more concentration that was more trouble than it was worth. Plus there was the threat of those waiting just outside the room and building, so a hostage actually would prove a far more beneficial card to help his escape.

Tenzin: You won't get away with this Tarrlok. You're just making this worse for yourself.

Breaking from his musing, Tarrlok focused half of his attention on Tenzin whose gaze had narrowed intensely onto him while the other half was focused on the others that were standing reluctantly still around him. All watching as he began taking slow steps back with his captive following above.

Tarrlok: Oh I beg to differ Tenzin. In fact, this young lady's and the Avatar lives depend on my continued freedom.

He dangerously warned, and decided to intentionally let slip that he did in fact have Korra. There was no point in denying it any longer he thought, plus It would make the current situation that much more complicated...for them at least.

Just then the doors to the entrance were swung open with two metal bending officers bursting in and another coming through the balcony up above. Each one pausing in shock at what was occurring but held their position upon quickly grasping the delicate situation.

Lin: So you admit that you took Korra and have her captive somewhere.

Lin didn't spare the extra backup a single glance as she kept her gaze solely on Tarrlok. She was trying to think up a safe way to rescue Asami without letting the arrogant bastard get away, but any potential move she made would put the young ravenette at risk and she couldn't have that. Dammit, she knew she should have just immediately wrapped the bastard in cables the moment he was made to be arrested. Now an innocent girl was being made to pay for her lapse in judgment.

Tarrlok: What can I say, she was annoyingly persistent and wouldn't fall in line.

The easily cruel admission was predictably met with heated glares and barely restrained fury, but Tarrlok didn't care. No, he was more concerned with the extra people that had entered the room. It didn't take a genius to predict what was bound to happen if he remains, not if he wants to make a quick escape before more officers come and hinder his path.

He needed to act now.

Tarrlok: A trait you all seem to share unfortunately.

He continued, and spared a side glance towards the entrance where the two officers were standing and decided to take his chances. It was the closest exit and the only one he entered from where he at least had a sense of the numbers of officers patrolling the few areas he passed.

Tenzin: It doesn't need to be like this Tarrlok.

Ever the mediating monk, Tenzin tried to calmly deescalate the situation for the good and safety of all, but the attempt only seemed to irritate the fallen councilmen who continued taking slow steps back.

Tarrlok: It would have never had to come to this in the first place if you all had just stayed in your places!!

The angry shouting surprised many who weren't expecting the sudden exclamation.

Tarrlok: If you had just stuck to the roles given to you then none of this would be happening. Everything would have worked out exactly as I intended it!! But no-

He snarled, contempt filling his entire being as he glared at all the insufferable ingrates around him.

Tarrlok: You all refuse. You refuse to acknowledge everything I've done for this city, for the people. And now, now it's too late to regret your choices.

He was insane, they all thought. Does he not realize that his actions brought about more harm than good for their great city? Was he so delusional to believe everything would go his way if he controlled and manipulate the actions of everyone to get the outcome he wanted? It was unbelievable.

Tarrlok: Now, move aside and let me pass. Refuse to comply and I won't hesitate to be short a hostage.

Once again he threatened, and once again chose to emphasize his point by jerking his hand and forcing a painful groan out of his helpless victim. The implication had the intended effect of keeping everyone rooted in place in fear of further harm coming to Asami, but Beifong had let out a small scoff to express just how she felt of Tarrlok's little ultimatum.

Lin: You wouldn't dare get rid of your only leverage of escaping here Tarrlok. There will be no way out for you if you do.

Tarrlok: True.

Retorted Tarrlok with a triumph smirk, as he rounded the side path of the sitting stands that was under the balcony. The narrow path gave him the protected position of having the rows of seats between him and everyone else, which left him safe to slowly sidestep his way to the front entrance without worrying for his unprotected back which faced the wall.

Tarrlok: But as far as I'm concerned I have very little left to lose Beifong. Will you really risk the life of this young lady to call my bluff? Will you take your chances on me possibly telling you where Korra is?

The weight of his cold words left the former chief frowning in silence as she watched with narrow eyes as Tarrlok shifted closer and closer to the exit with no one stopping him. She wasn't sure if he would fully go through with his threat, but with the situation as is there was very little else they could do.

Hostage situations were always the worst to deal with.

Mako: Are we really going to let him escape with Asami?

Mako muttered angrily beside her, and she couldn't blame him. She didn't like this any better than he did.

Lin: If we don't want to risk her life we have no other choice.

Mako: But-

Lin: And besides.

She immediately interrupted, giving Mako a quick side glance to stop any further retort from leaving his lips.

Lin: The area is completely surrounded by officers for this very reason. There'll be no real escape for Tarrlok. All he's doing now is stalling the inevitable so don't worry Mako. We'll get our chance. We just need an opportunity.

She tried reassuring the young bender, making it a point to leave no room for doubt that what she said would be what was sure to happen. It was unknown if Mako took comfort in her words or not as he continued glaring at Tarrlok with a frown, but it was enough that he seemed to give a small nod in response.

Even if reluctantly.

Satisfied, Lin focused her attention back on Tarrlok who now stood near the exit and before the two metalbenders who barely budge from their positions in front of the door.

Tarrlok: Move.

He demanded the both of them, and for a moment the two officers appeared unwilling to listen, but after a quick glance towards their chief and getting a solemn nod in return, they grudgingly step aside and let the crooked councilman and his captive slowly pass by.

Asami: No...

Whispered Asami through gritted teeth as she fought to speak for the first time since her capture.

Asami: Don't...let...him-

She didn't want to be the reason that Tarrlok might get away.

She didn't want her being a liability to be the cause of everyone being force having their hands tied in fear of her getting hurt.

She didn't want that...

But more than anything.

Don't let him take me!!

She didn't want to be alone and at the mercy of a cruel blood bender that could possibly kill her.

Sadly.

Tarrlok: Quiet.

Her wants were irrelevant.

And led to a flick of a wrist, a twitch of a finger, and a shock of pain that had everyone wince as she was bent and twisted in a way that had her screaming in agony.

Bolin: Stop doing that!!

Tarrlok: No.

Passing the threshold of the entrance and making sure to turn with his back facing down the hall and his hostage held between him and his aggressors, Tarrlok, while quickening his steps backwards, left one final warning to the group to ensure himself extra time to think up and plan his next move.

Tarrlok: No one is to follow me.

He started with, his voice low and tempered in barely concealed malice that made his next words all the more menacing.

Tarrlok: Anyone who does or tries to stop me...I'll be force to break a single bone of hers in response.

A small groan in protest slipped from his hostage upon hearing his words, but he ignored them and continued on.

He needed to make sure his warnings was heeded above all else.

He needed to give himself just enough time.

Tarrlok: If that isn't enough I'll resort to more drastic methods. I'll damage a vital organ, stop the blood from flowing to her brain, or my personal favorite...

Even if some were empty threats that he couldn't dare bring himself to commit.

Tarrlok: Slowly draining her of the blood within her body. Making her nothing more than a bone, withered husk.

And like that, the threat and horrific images that he gave to the greatly disturbed and petrified group, swayed any attempt to follow the mad bender in the hopes of catching him off guard. Not wanting to dare leave things to chance though, Tarrlok continued back stepping and motion with his head at the two officers by the door.

Tarrlok: Close the doors.

He demanded, and again the two metalbenders looked reluctant, but with a frown on their face and a glare directed at Tarrlok, they were left with no other choice but to comply.

It was with a heavy heart as the entrance to the great council chambers began closing in that Mako took his chance to slowly step forward and near the slow moving doors to stare into the terrified eyes of Asami whose gaze immediately locked with his own.

Mako: Everything's going to be ok.

He tried reassuring her.

Mako: You're going to be ok. Nothing is going to happen to you Asami, I promise.

He tried promising her.

Mako: Just...stay strong-

And he tried filling her with strength.

Mako: We'll save you alright, no matter what.

Yet, despite the calmness in his words...there belied the fear and worry he had in his eyes as he gazed into the fading view of Asmai.

Just as the space between the two doors completely closed, and Mako was given a painful but weak smile from Asami, a soft breeze brushed against his senses and carried a near silence whisper that would later haunt him in his dreams.

I'm scared.

Then the doors closed.

He stood there, fist tightening and bone white, Mako stood there and glared at the double doors in anger. Never have he felt such rage, such desire to make someone pay for their actions they committed. But ultimately, he felt pathetic for not being able to do anything. Now not only is Korra in danger and kept who knows where, but Asami as well is now in that bastard's Tarrlok clutches.

"Dammit, I can't just stand here doing nothing. I have to hurry and find a way to save both of them"

A solid hand grips his shoulder, and Mako turns slightly to see the sympathetic face of his little brother.

Bolin: Don't worry Mako, we'll save Asami and Korra from that evil mad bloodbending Tarrlok. I'm sure we'll think of something, we always do, right?

Mako:...Right.

He faintly muttered to himself, before shaking his head and fulling facing his brother with a far more determined expression on his face.

Mako: Right. And we'll figure it out this time too. They're counting on us Bolin.

Bolin: And we won't let them down.

The two determined brothers fist bump to solidify the vow before turning to face the mayhem that was currently happening outside their notice. Everyone, from the council members to Tenzin in heated discussion, to Beifong directing the present officers who quickly exited through the other entryways, and Saikhan who was animatedly talking into his portable radio to his forces outside. All were immediately springing into action to respond to the delicate situation that they currently find themselves in.

It was a sight the two brothers took comfort in, and made them all the more resolved to do their part to help the friends.

Bolin: We should see what we can do. Maybe Beifong or Tenzin have a plan.

Mako: Yeah...let's go see how we can help.

"And make Tarrlok regret he ever took the people we care for"

Walking towards the group of adults who were busy in their heated conversation, it was Lin who noticed the pair and almost knew what it was they were going to ask.

Mako: What can we do?

Snow.

Pure white snow is what she groggily woken up to.

It was what she was looking at through blurry eyes as she felt herself being dragged by both her arms.

It was what she felt seeped through her clothes and onto her skin, making her numb.

It was what she tasted, when she was thrown into a pile face first before being forced on her knees and staring at the booted feet of the person before her.

Snow was all she could see...and yet held none of its usual pure beauty it would normally have.

"Where am I?"

Korra asked herself, still feeling disoriented and confused.

"I remember...meditating, Aang's memories, then... then...ahh, my head"

There was something else, something that felt just as important, right there through the pain and on the edge of her mind just barely out of reach. But no matter how hard she tried she just couldn't recall the faint memory, and that for whatever reason, filled her with a strange sense of loss.

"Why can't I remember...and why does it hurt so much that I can't?"

It was unexplainable to her, like an old precious piece of herself she's forgotten...but that was the least of her worries.

There were voices.

Two to be exact. Both seemed to be conversing with one another right before her but it all sounded muffled to her ears.

What the heck was going on.

What was she hit with?

And by who?

But try as she might, she just couldn't think straight and still felt as weak and confused as when she first woken up...that is until one of the voices above finally broke through to her.

Amon: We meet again Avatar.

Korra's eyes widen and her senses quickly regain their full focus. There was no mistaking that dark menacing voice. No mistaking just who it belonged to.

And why it brought a familiar sense of fear into her heart.

No.

Her mind lurch, pain rippled through her body from phantom shocks.

Why was he here?

Why was he of all people here?

She didn't want to believe it, didn't want to look, not into the cold mask that once ruled her nightmares...not in the same helpless position she once again found herself in. She would have preferred anyone, even Tarrlok to be the one standing before her...but it seems her luck as of late just hasn't been the best.

It wasn't fair.

None of this really wasn't fair.

...But not everything ever is.

Not wanting to show how much of an effect he still had on her, Korra stilled her tiny tremors and arched her neck upward to stare defiantly behind the slitted eye holes of the masked man who stood over her. Barely even registering the presence of the large equalist group that surrounded them.

It really was quite similar to the last time.

Although with far more equalists around them.

Korra: Amon.

She uttered lowly, her words laced with clear anger and disdain.

Amon from the looks of it was unfazed, and was even...slightly amused at the Avatar's hostile behavior. Enough so to actually let slip a tease through his emotionless mask.

Amon: I'm hurt Avatar. Is that how you greet the one who saved you from rotting in a metal box?

The glare she gave him could melt a person clean through if it was possible, and Amon had no doubt that she wished just that upon him this very moment. Unfortunately for her, there was no getting rid of him. Not when he came here for a specific purpose.

Korra: Saved me?

Korra scoffed.

Korra: Right. And you're also not here to take me and throw me into another cell in your dingy dark basement.

She said sarcastically, and threw Amon and the annoyed lieutenant who stood beside him a dirty look.

Korra: Let's not play games here Amon, We both know why you're here.

And what would happen to her.

Korra was under no illusion about how dire her current situation is. She knows how bad this is, and knows what it would mean if Amon takes her here. If there was anything she could do to prevent it she would have, but seeing as how she still felt weak from what she assumed was getting electrocuted and no doubt chi block afterwards, her chances were looking very, very slim.

No...there had to be something she could do.

It wasn't too late. She still had her bending (even if suppressed) and there was the purpose of Amon seeking to no doubt make a showing of stripping it from her before as many of his people as he could. That gave her time...time she would use to her advantage and figure out how to save herself.

And she will save herself.

There was no doubt about that.

No way was she going to admit defeat this easily.

Absolutely no way.

Oh, how wrong she was.

Amon:...I'm afraid that there's a misunderstanding.

Amon said to the now confused Avatar who frowned at the unsettling shift in his deep tone.

Amon: I've not come to capture you Avatar. No, as ideal as that may be there's been...a slight change in plans.

Korra felt a pit form in her stomach at hearing what sounded like ominous words coming from Amon. A slight change in plans? She wasn't even sure the entirety of what his original plans was, much less this new one. But if he wasn't here to capture her then...

Why was he here?

The fear that she fought to hold back began bubbling to the surface in force.

No.

Amon: I wanted to save you for last. To prevent you from becoming a martyr.

No No No No No.

Amon: To show to all that even the mighty Avatar will be nothing more than a relic of a bygone era.

This wasn't happening. Not now.

Amon: To show the world what was coming for them.

I need to go. I have to get away NOW.

Amon: Unfortunately, I need to send a message. And as prematurely as it is, your time has come Avatar. To made anew. To no longer carry the taint that makes you special. To be...Equalized.

Hands gripped her arms tightly.

Korra: Wait.

Amon slowly began walking around her.

Korra: No No wait!! AMON!

She tried getting out of the two equalist hold. Tried getting as far away from the monster that now stood behind her. But try as might and with all the remaining strength she had, there was no escape from the death like grip they had on her. No escape from the cold hand that clasped tightly around her neck.

Korra: Don't do this!! You don't have to do this!!

She yelled, nearly begged as her fear and panic fully consumed her and her breathing grew more hysteric.

This wasn't happening.

This can NOT Happen.

Not without her putting up a serious fight. Not with her on knees as her very existence as the Avatar was being taken from her.

Not like this.

No.

Amon: Oh but I do Avatar.

Someone.

Amon: I really do.

Please.

As her head was force back and Korra stared with wide frightening eyes at the dark clouded sky above, she couldn't help the image of a dark raven like hair with cold golden eyes on an annoyingly smirking face manifesting in her mind, staring at her after a long day of training with amusement and subtle confliction.

Don't tell me that's all the mighty Avatar can do.

His strong teasing voice whispered in her ears.

Oh I'll show you what a real Avatar can do alright.

Her response then that came out with a growl of annoyance.

She held desperately on to that image in her mind. Held on to it to muster the strength she solely needs from the one person she felt could give it to her. To help her overcome the fear, the panic, all that held her back from doing anything she can to prevent her bending from being taken from her.

To prevent what makes her the Avatar from being stripped from her.

She needed Y/N.

She needs her other-

Immediately...All that quickly shattered with Y/N's smirking face being the last thing she saw when Amon's dark hand entered her vision and slowly closed in towards her face, barely resting an inch from her forehead.

It was enough to make her scream.

Korra: Y/N!!!

And Then There was Light.

(Y/N): Hm?

Stopping short within a narrow alleyway, Y/N couldn't help but be compelled to turn around and stare up at the orange tinted sky and notice with narrow eyes, a dark cloud slowly moving to hover over the distant snow covered mountains outside the city boundary.

(Y/N): Looks like it might rain tonight. Can't say I'm looking forward to that.

He said unpleasantly, not liking one bit the prospect of dealing with rainy weather. He really hated the rain. It represents pain and sadness and reminds him too much of all the times it rained during tragic moments in his life. But, it wasn't something he should really concern himself with given that it had nothing to do with his current objective...At least he hopes so anyway.

Still...

(Y/N): ...I should've sworn I heard someone call my name.

For it to begin showing signs of rain now of all times.

It gave him a bad feeling in his gut.

Heheheh.

A very bad feeling.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! HAAAAHAHAHA!!!!
