Bardock awoke to the smell of damp pavement and an unfamiliar sky. He lay where he had been deposited, focusing on the rain that fell dutifully from the heavens. He felt so strange, as if he were dreaming – as if his demise had only been that. Possibly, he thought, instead of perishing on the doomed planet he had been granted a reprieve and another opportunity to fulfill his purpose.
Bardock noticed another presence near him and quickly regained his composure, rising to face the Heavens. He was then startled to recognize the saiyan-like man in an orange and blue uniform standing before him. His memory stirred and the vision of a man battling with the dreaded Frieza replayed back in his mind. He must've been the one from Bardock's prophetic vision, the future of his people's triumphant destiny in the hands of this cloaked warrior.
"What? Where am I? Who are you?" he questioned, his voice tinged with disbelief.
"My name is Gohan," the stranger replied calmly, "I'm here to help. When I found you lying in the street I feared the worst. Are you alright?"
Bardock stood still, mesmerized, as he looked at Gohan. Tears welled up in his eyes, filled with emotions of overwhelming gratitude and relief.
In spite of so much turmoil, Gohan had kept his life intact. Standing there in front of him with his serious yet kind and worried face, Bardock silently thanked the heavens.
He could barely believe what had happened, the things he had seen and experienced. Everything transpired so quickly as if it was a mysterious dream that was full of action.
"Dad," Gohan said, a little confused by the saiyan's intense silence. "Are you okay?"
Bardock slowly nodded, forcing a small smile on his face. "Yes,but who are you and why did you call me dad?"
