Hey, wasup? It's Ducky here. So, what sits before you is another story by me, but this time it's a crossover. A crossover you say? Yep. It's a Wings of Fire and Hunger Games crossover. I dunno, just thought I'd try it, you know, since those are literally my two favorite fandoms. Just a thought, we'll see how this goes. Oh, and by the way, the first few chapters are gonna be a day-in-the-life sorta thing. Then it'll get interesting. Bear with me for these first few chapters. I'll try to make them longer so you have more reading material in between posts. I'll probably post about once a week, maybe more, maybe less. We'll see. And I've got a drama production tonight, so wish me luck! Thank you so much. And if you read this entire note, thank you. I know, it's boring, so let's get onto chapter 1!

PS: In this story, the dragonets of destiny have a different destiny. And the SandWing Succession wars never happened, in case you get confused. Hehe, you'll see.

PPS: Some chapters will be from a dragon's POV, and some will not.

PPPS: You can review dragon names for tributes or just OC dragons in general :).

Okay, okay, enough of the PPPPPPPS's, let's actually get started.

POV: Clay

The world is closing around me. Walls of water, dirt, rocks, and trees are rising on all sides. I run every direction, but there's no escape. I'm stuck here, and I'm going to die. Tears are streaming down my face. I think of my beloved friends, who I'll never see again. I curl up in a tight ball and cover my eyes with my shaking talons. I get one last glimpse of the world around me before everything comes crashing down on top of me and I'm buried forever.

I wake up, gasping. The dream was horrible. I realize I'm sweating like crazy. My head whips around in all directions, and I'm relieved to find all of my friends snoozing peacefully around me.

The cave is pitch black, except for a single burning torch in the hallway near the guardian's cave. I don't move, not wanting to wake Tsunami, whose head is resting calmly on my arm. The tranquility in the room is relaxing, and the cool air coming from the sky hole is refreshing, especially since the previous day was hot, making the enclosed caves very hot.

The cave is as quiet as ever. The only noise audible is the soft wind blowing and the slight rustling of the trees in the outside world. The noise is mesmerizing and I almost immediately fall into my previously unconscious state again. And this time, no nightmares attack me.

A breath of fire awakes me. I realize that Kestrel is in battle training with Tsunami. Wait, that's not until after breakfast. What'd I miss?

I sit up and look around the cave. No one's in here but me. I've slept in. That's not good. Kestrel's gonna go full force on me later. I'm surprised no one awoke me. I stand up and realize that my muscles are aching. Probably from yesterday's training, I think bitterly. The previous day, Kestrel had been blasting me against stalagmites.

I force myself to walk out of the room, although grogginess is causing me to move much slower than I would normally.

When I reach the eating cave, I see Glory, Starflight, and Sunny are all eating breakfast still, along with Webs.

"Hi, Clay!" Sunny squeaks, her face brightening.

"Hey, guys. What'd I miss?" I ask, joining them. A piece of cow is placed in front of me. I start nibbling on it.

"Oh, nothing much," Glory says. "Just missed the part about Tsunami being dragged into battle training. Nothing too exciting." Glory's voice was always so neutral.

"Yeah, but she's doing great," Sunny says cheerfully. Then she frowns. "Are there any lizards?"

Webs looks up from his meal. "Nope, sorry, this is what you get for today." Then he resumes eating.

Sunny sighs. "Well, you get what you get."

"Who's turn is it next for battle training?" I ask.

"I believe it's your turn," Starflight says to me. "You were supposed to go first, but you weren't awake."

"Why didn't you guys wake me?" I suddenly feel betrayed.

Sunny giggles.

"You looked so peaceful. We didn't want to wake you," Glory replies, also giggling.

I grunt and turn away, still eating my cow meat.

Just then, Tsunami stumbles in, a long burn mark scorching her side. She sits down, panting.

"Are you okay?" Sunny asks.

"Yep, fine." Tsunami saunters over to the river flowing through our caves and jumps in. She loves that river, especially after being burned.

I watch her swim and dive and dunk her head. It looks refreshing but very cold. That's when I feel a menacing talon gripping my arm firmly. I turn my head to see Kestrel staring down at me with her sneering face.

"Come on, it's your turn." She jerks the arm that's grabbing me back, sending me forward. I follow her into the battle training area, my eyes darting from side to side in anticipation.

We start immediately. Without warning, she blasts fire at me. From all the years of her doing this by surprise, it's my instinct to duck and roll away. Unfortunately, I'm a bit clumsier today and collide with a stalagmite mid-summersault.

Of course, Kestrel takes this opportunity to bat me with her wing. It feels like a whip on my side, which had not completely missed her fiery breath. Steam is smoking from my side and I roll over.

Kestrel then grabs my arm and flings me around. Luckily, I duck before I hit a stalactite hanging dangerously low to the ground. I duck just in time as Kestrel sends another blast of fire at me. The flame grazes the top of the head and I jump back.

Suddenly, a stalactite falls loose from the ceiling and comes crashing down over my head. I attempt to dodge it, but don't miss it completely. It hits my right side with full force. I roar and careen straight into Kestrel, who looks very confused. I can tell the stalactite is dug into my scales and blood is pouring from the wound.

Kestrel has stopped fighting me and is watching me as I pull it out from my scales. It dug in about four inches and it left an ugly gaping hole.

Kestrel looks stunned. "Okay, your training is done for the day." That was sudden.

"What?" I say, shocked. If one of us got hurt, she wouldn't normally call off training unless it was really serious. Like one time, Tsunami cracked her rib during training after running into a stalagmite, but Kestrel didn't call off training then. I don't think that a stalactite piercing my skin is worth calling training off for, and nothing compared to a cracked rib, but I'm glad nonetheless.

"Training's done for the day," she repeats, a little more firmly.

So I walk off. I enter the dining cave where all the dragons are sitting, including Dune. Tsunami had joined them as well, seeming to have gotten her fill of the river.

I'm limping on my right slightly. The others seem to notice immediately.

"Oh my gosh, Clay, what happened?" Sunny asks, standing up and rushing over to me.

"Ah, nothing too bad. A stalactite just fell off the ceiling and hit my side. I pulled it out though. I just need to stitch it up."

Starflight's head was turned, and I could tell he didn't want to see the wound.

With the help of the guardians excluding Kestrel, my wound was fixed within the hour. I spent the day eating and listening to Starflight's boring lectures.

Both Sunny and Starflight got away from battle training today, but Glory was still required to do it. She came out of it with only a thin burn marking on her right talon and a cut on her neck.

After lunch, our schooling started officially. Starflight was bouncing around happily. This was his strong suit. Sunny was smiling–she enjoyed everything and almost never complained. The rest of us, however, were dragging our feet into the study cave where Starflight, Sunny, and Webs were waiting patiently for us to get settled.

I sit in my usual place–against the farthest wall from the scrolls. Today was a review of the geography of Pyrrhia. Of course, Starflight always has something smart to say about his topic and any other topic, which of course then turns into a boring, one-hour long lecture. And the worst part was, Webs never stops Starflight from lecturing us. He actually seems to enjoy Starflight's endless knowledge of the world, even though Starflight has never seen it with his own eyes. None of us have. Well, at least not for very long.

We live in a dark world, where every year, two dragons, one male and one female, between the ages of four and nine are chosen from a ball of names of all the dragons in that tribe within the age range. Every tribe has to offer two dragons to participate in the annual Games.

Us five dragonets are still required to participate in the reaping, but we've never been chosen, luckily. It's always a surprise whenever it's reaping day, because we have no calendar to keep track of how many days have passed since the last reaping.

Finally, geography and history was over. Or so I thought. That was when Webs announced a geography quiz. Glory, Tsunami, and I all moan while Starflight is smiling from ear to ear and Sunny is neutral. I know she doesn't necessarily like quizzes, but Sunny never complains.

Webs hands each of us a scroll with what looks like a million questions, although it's only ten. As soon as I began reading the questions, I forget everything I've ever learned. Well, maybe I haven't forgotten anything at all. I just never had the info in my brain because I never pay attention.

Right at that moment, I see Starflight handing in his quiz to Webs. I stare at my own quiz and realize I haven't written a single thing down.

Next, I see Glory handing in hers. Although she doesn't really like geography, she picks up on it really easily.

I glance at Sunny and Tsunami. Both of their faces are scrunched up in confusion. Neither of them have been paying attention either. Momentary relief floods through me until I realize that if I don't hurry up, Webs is going to give some kind of punishment.

So without thinking, I scribble down a few random things and hand in my quiz. Tsunami is doing the same, while Sunny seems to still be thinking.

I see Starflight leaning over her shoulder. He's trying to give her answers. She suddenly starts writing things down, and I know Starflight has successfully given Sunny answers without Webs noticing.

Within the next minute, all of our tests are turned in. Normally, our next subject is science, but for some reason, Webs lets us have the rest of the day off from studying.

As we all exit the study cave, I'm still rather confused. Why did Webs let us have the day off from studying? Why did Kestrel call off battle training, even though I wasn't hurt that bad? Questions were flooding my brain faster than I could drain them out with answers.

"Hey, guys? Do any of you have a weird feeling that something's going on?" I ask.

"Oh, yeah," Tsunami agrees, clenching her talons. "I have a feeling something fishy's going on."

"I just don't get it," I say. Glory nods.

"I think that they're just being nice to us," Sunny says. She always thought the best of everyone, even the evilest of dragons.

Glory snorts. "Being nice to us? That would be like a cow learning the history of Pyrrhia. Especially Kestrel. Kestrel wouldn't be nice to us in a billion years."

"Well, why else would they act so nicely to us?" Sunny retorts.

"They have secrets, you know," Tsunami says.

"It's likely that something big is coming up," Starflight says from the study cave. Of course, Starflight continued studying, even after we were dismissed.

"But what could it be?" Sunny asks. "Wouldn't we get some sort of clue of what it is by now? I think they're just being nice."

"Sunny," Glory starts, shaking her head. "Our guardians aren't being nice. Do you really think Kestrel is being kind?"

Sunny shrugs. "There's always a first for everything. Maybe she's changed."

"I find that highly unlikely," Tsunami says. "I'm gonna eavesdrop on them."

"I don't like the sound of that," Starflight says.

"You don't like the sound of anything that might get us in trouble," Tsunami says, rolling her eyes.

"How about we just wait for them to tell us," I suggest, not particularly liking the idea of eavesdropping either.

"Do you think they're just gonna tell us?" she retorts. "I mean, if they were, wouldn't they have already told us? I think we have to find out for ourselves."

"Okay," I give in, knowing Tsunami will not stop until we agree.

"Wonderful." Tsunami smiles. "Okay, so, I'll go into the river. We'll be able to hear them pretty well from there. Clay, you're coming with me."

"Why me?"

"Because I said so."

"Wait, do we have to do this now? I mean, we have the rest of the day. And they might not even be talking about the secret right now."

Tsunami looks as if she's considering this.

"That's true," Starflight chimes in. "If you want to eavesdrop on their secret, nighttime's your best shot, since by then they'll think we're all asleep." I don't know why Starflight's giving suggestions when he doesn't even like the idea.

"Alright, we'll wait until nightfall."

The rest of the day passed without difficulty. We ate dinner and went to bed with full stomachs. Because of the day's training and all the food, I fell asleep almost immediately.

But of course, Tsunami didn't. She stayed up until she was sure that the guardians were talking of their secret.

"Clay, wake up." I felt talons shaking my exhausted body. But for the sake of not being shook anymore, I peep my eyes open. "What?"

"Get up. I think they're talking about something right now."

"So?"

"So we should eavesdrop. It could be about why they've been acting so weird."

I groan. "Can't you do it alone? I wanna sleep." And with that, I close my eyes and fall right back asleep. Whatever the surprise is, if they wanted us to know, they'd tell us.

As soon as I drift off, I'm greeted by nightmares.

I'm running beside a tall cliff. Below me, the waves crash against the rocks. I look behind me and see a mob coming after me. A mob of SkyWings and NightWings. I veer to my right, away from the cliff, only to find that there's another identical cliff on my right as well. I'm stuck on the strip of stone raised a mile off the ground with a mob of angry dragons chasing me.

I risk a look over the side of the left cliff and wish I hadn't. Washing against the rocks below is RainWing. Its eyes are lifeless as its limp body is repeatedly thrown against the jagged boulders below. But it's not just any RainWing. It's Glory.

I gasp and turn away, eyes streaming with tears of fear and sadness. I lean over the other cliff and see a dead SeaWing, eyes cold and emotionless. Tsunami.

I turn away, choking on my sobs. As I continue running, I see Starflight, his limp body draped across the rocks, his eyes, which used to be so full of life and knowledge, dull and dead.

Not able to take it anymore, I focus only on what's ahead of me. But on the left side of the cliff, a small yellow figure catches my eye. It's Sunny, her wings torn and her throat slit. As the tears flow, I feel an intense wave of sadness.

That sadness turns to anger. Anger and longing for revenge on who did this. I look behind me and realize the mob of dragons are still chasing me. But they're different. All of their eyes are lifeless, like zombies.

Then the strip of stone that I'm running on takes a sudden sharp right turn and I don't see it in time. I veer off the edge and into the ocean below.

I wake up in a pool of sweat, panting hard and gasping for air. I look around me. Everyone's asleep, including Tsunami. She must have given up eavesdropping after I fell asleep.

But all I can feel is relief. It's the same feeling I got after I woke up from my nightmare the previous night. But this time, my relief is much more intense. Knowing that my friends are safe and sound asleep is all I need to know.

But I just can't shake the feeling that something bad is going to happen to them. As if my nightmares are hazy visions.

But I shake the thought off, not wanting to think of such horrifying things. I don't want to sleep, but I know I have to. All I can do is hope that nightmares don't swallow me again.

And eventually, I fall into a peaceful rest, my chest rising and falling evenly. But I have one last thought before I doze off.

Whatever happens, I'll do everything in my power to protect them. I will never let them get hurt again.

Sooo, that was chapter 1. Tell me, what'd y'all think? I'd really like to know. And by the way, we'll get to the interesting stuff soon, just hold your horses. Please, please, please, reviews are encouraged. Pleeeeeease review. It would make my day and if you do, I'll shout you out. If you want to be shouted out, just leave a review. Thanks! And also, I'm accepting OCs, so if you've got ideas, let me know!

See ya in the next one.

Ducky :)
