Jennifer had thrown her hair up in a ponytail today because Jonathan refused to tell her what they were doing or where they were going. He just said to dress casual and comfortable and recommended jeans and a t-shirt. So here she was, wearing jeans and the pink Allbirds sneakers she'd ordered during some late-night retail therapy through targeted Instagram ads after her last breakup. The t-shirt was one she got for free doing volunteer work at the New York Public Library a few years ago. And her hair was pulled up slightly messy on her head with a bit of SPF moisturizer on her face and a quick swath of mascara.
Jonathan drove them in his sports car. She hardly knew what to call it because it was an electric car prototype his company was developing to rival Tesla. As with the plane, Jonathan was concerned with the harm that cars were doing to the environment, but there just wasn't the same excitement with a Prius and Elon Musk was horrible enough to turn most intelligent-minded people away from his brand of luxury cars.
She gazed at him happily as he showed off the power of the vehicle. It drove like a dream, smooth and powerful without being too abrupt with the stops and starts. Though that might have been due to the quality of the driver more than the car.
He looked so gorgeous, and she could hardly get over it. He wore an LA Rams shirt and Nikes and a pair of jeans that she had noticed hugged his perfect ass so well, she had to put her hands into tight fists to keep from reaching out to touch him. Maybe when they got to wherever they were going, she could see fit to have her way with him. They'd just made love this morning, but that certainly wasn't going to stop her wanting more.
Jennifer was so fixated on Jonathan and the car and being happy and in love that she didn't realize where they were until he pulled into a parking space. It was a gravel drive with some fences and open fields in the distance behind the large barn buildings. And then she saw: horses!
She gasped excitedly. "Are we going riding?" she asked eagerly.
"I thought it might be a fun way to spend the day. You said how much you like horses. I've got mine boarded here and we'll certainly have to get one for you, but for now, we can borrow someone for the day," he said.
Of course, Jennifer was absolutely over the moon. Jennifer did love to ride more than anything in the world, and now getting to do so with Jonathan by her side was a dream come true. Not only did she find a man she was madly in love with who loved her back just as much, they were able to share her favorite hobby together. And it wasn't just something he did because of her, she knew. He already had a horse and played polo. He just already liked the things she liked. He was perfect. They were perfect together.
Jennifer and Jonathan got out of the car, but before they made their way to the barn, Jennifer wrapped her arms around Jonathan's neck and kissed him soundly. His hands splayed over her back and pulled her even closer as the kiss deepened for just a moment.
"I love you so much," she said when they pulled apart. "I want to marry you right now."
He chuckled and gave her a little peck on the tip of her nose. "Well, right now we're going to go ride horses, but we can always head over to the county building and pick up a marriage license on the way back," he teased.
She had a feeling that if she agreed to that, Jonathan would make it happen. But she still wanted to have a real wedding, a big blowout party with all their friends and everyone in her family and be celebrated by the whole world for the glory of their love. It would take a while to plan that, and it was still going to take a while for Jennifer's father to get on board with this whole thing.
But that was a problem for another day. Right now, they were going to ride horses.
Jonathan introduced her to his horse, a perfect Arabian called Apollo. Jennifer loved him immediately. Though to be fair, she'd never met any animal she hadn't loved immediately. She also loved the horse she borrowed from the stables, an elegant palomino called Casper.
There were trails around the enormous property that Jonathan was familiar with, so Jennifer let him lead the way. They walked for a while, just getting used to the horses and planning what they wanted to do. Soon, though, they came to an open stretch and broke into a gallop.
The wind whipped through Jennifer's hair, causing a few tendrils to come loose and whip around her face. She started to laugh, feeling so free and happy and alive. And when she looked to her right, Jonathan was right there with a similar look of bliss on his face. Side by side, they ran their horses until the path narrowed and caused them to slow.
"That was incredible," Jennifer said, feeling a little breathless from the adrenaline of it all.
Jonathan grinned. "It's the best thing in the world."
She hummed in agreement. "Might be my favorite thing we've done together so far."
He raised his brow. "Really?"
Her mind flashed back to this morning when Jonathan had grabbed her right leg and put it over his shoulder and… "Okay, maybe my second favorite thing. Call it a top-two for hobbies," she replied.
They both laughed as their horses leisurely walked through the tree-lined trails. The conversation turned to the horses themselves, discussing the qualities of Apollo that Jonathan liked and what Jennifer might want in a horse of her own. Just hearing how eager he was to get a horse for her so they could always do things like this just warmed Jennifer's heart. She had a man who wanted to give her the world. And he would. And she would happily have it because he was the one who gave it to her.
