-The Stray Cat-

Ah, the simple housecat. One would think such an ordinary beast does not deserve mention in this grand compendium of the most fearsome, vile, and malevolent creatures to ever roam our world. One would be right that it is not on the level of a behemoth or dragon, but it is a wild beast and must be accounted for in its proper place here.

The stray cat is, as its name implies, simply an ordinary black cat that at some point wandered from its home and now roams the land, feral and free. As such, it is not just a tame housecat to be petted or approached. It is fighting for its life in our dangerous world now, same as any other beast, and will take on all comers if threatened. Fortunately, the only thing this feline possesses in the way of weapons are its claws, which it can use to deliver a vicious cat scratch if thoroughly provoked. Beyond that, there is not much more to say about this mostly harmless animal. It appears in packs occasionally when hunting, but even so the average adult is more than a match for the stray cat.

There is a hidden strength lurking in this unassuming housecat, however. The "Wild Child" Gau, perhaps the only person on this planet more versed in the true essence of monsters than myself, has tapped into the feral heart of the stray cat, and managed to bring out something extraordinary - a Cat Scratch as mighty as a bull behemoth's tackle!

Yes, this feat just goes to show that there is secret power hidden in the most surprising of places, if one has the determination and wit to hunt it out. That has been the core philosophy of the school of blue magic since time immemorial, and it warms my heart to see this belief evolved into its most pure form in Gau. This is no longer just a way of thinking for him, it is a way of life, of being. Gau becomes the stray cat when he rages, and in doing so brings out the full spirit of tenacity and guts that the poor abandoned soul has lurking deep inside itself. I muse that the deep connection in the story of the stray cat and Gau himself must resonate particularly strong within him to bring out such surprising rage. My only regret is that it does not appear to be magically fueled, and thus I was never able to experience the thrill of delivering such a mighty blow myself.

I am happy to say that the grit of this kit has proved worthy of our new world, and stray cats can still be found roaming the northern forest of the Doma region just as in days of yore. They are much more reticent to show themselves, but they still prowl the dark woods alongside the gigantic tyrannosaurs and brachiosaurs, always keeping just out of sight. And wouldn't it surprise these mighty beings to know this tiny morsel has a heart that beats just as ferociously as theirs? Truly, the world is a strange and wondrous place, and for that I am thankful.
