Sonic is with her family after defeating Robotnik but not sure if she's where she belongs.

10. Sonic the Hedgehog

There were ruins of buildings everywhere. Silver was flying around the city slowly, looking for any flames. The ground below had become nothing but a sea of lava, with the occasional rumble of thunder and flashed of lightning from the storm clouds covering the sky.

"This world was devastated before I was born. A harsh, bleak place, where we live in eternal darkness. Life is a struggle, and people live without hope. How did this happen? No one will answer me directly. But they always point... to the flames." he narrated then a tornado of flames swirled up before him and he used a psychokinetic blast to clear the flames in front of him and they die away. "These flames. They burn away at my world destroying everything in their path. They come from a eternal life form we cannot truly defeat. The Flames of Disaster known as Iblis."

"Silver!" Blaze said.

"Blaze, what's wrong?"

"He's appeared again!"

He looked in the direction Blaze pointed in with an angry scowl, then flew away as Blaze jumped quickly from roof to roof to follow him.

Sure enough they had gone through Crisis City and were running right up to confront Iblis, who emerged as a fiery golem monster ready to attack with a roar. They are stunned but looked up.

"Come on, you monster!" Silver said then Iblis moved on and roared in the flames.

Meanwhile a pit of molten lava was where Iblis once stood following his defeat by Silver.

"Looks like we stopped it for now." Blaze said.

"But, it'll just rise up from its ashes again." Silver said and hit a brick wall with his fist in frustration. "What's the point of all this? It'll never end."

"Calm down, Silver."

"Then tell me what we should do. How can we completely destroy Iblis?" he said disappointed.

Blaze was unsure what to do and closed her eyes to think. All of a sudden a dark voice was heard.

"...By knowing the truth, of course." someone said.

Silver looked around to see who spoke, and he and Blaze looked up at Mephiles, on top of a ruined building.

"Just as a flower comes from a seed, or a chicken comes from an egg, everything has an origin. You need to find the being originally responsible for this catastrophe." he continued and raised his fist.

"Is that really the answer to our problem?" Silver asked and pointed at Mephiles. "Tell me, do you know who it is?"

Mephiles looked at hm with a sinister look in his eyes.

"He's the Iblis Trigger!"

Then Mephiles lead Blaze and Silver into the database.

"To fix this present timeline, you need to change the past." Mephiles said and they looked around the database.

"But, that's impossible." Silver said.

"With my help, you can, because I have the power to travel through time!"

"No way!" Silver said surprised.

"In order to change the past, you must eliminate the individual who has awakened Iblis. The Iblis Trigger."

Silver and Blaze thought and ponder.

"If I eliminate that guy, will our world be saved?" Silver asked and Mephiles nodded.

"The Day of Disaster... Here are my records of this event. This was when Iblis was freed and his flames were released into the world." he sad and turned on the computer, and Silver and Blaze saw images of Soleanna and other things.

"And you have this person to blame." he said and took out the purple Chaos Emerald and showed it to Silver, who took it and gazed upon it.

A vision of Sonic and the flames appeared, and there was a close-up of Sonic staring blankly.

"I see it! So, that blue hedgehog's the Iblis Trigger?" Silver said and Blaze got closer to Silver and stared at him and the emerald.

"Blue hedgehog..." she said and he handed the emerald back to Mephiles.

"I'll send us back in time to the point when the Iblis Trigger was alive." Mephiles said and generated a sphere with his hands, placed it on Silver and Blaze, and they vanished.

It was a bright, sunny day in present-day Soleanna in the forest outside the city. A portal had opened up, and Silver jumped out of it alone as it closed. He looked around.

"Where am I?" he said and saw Blaze and Mephiles weren't there. "Blaze?" he said and looked again. "Blaze!" he said and saw no one there. "I guess we all got separated." he said and looked around. "This is so unbelievable." he said and saw the path ahead near a tree and looked up at it. "Now I must fight for the future!"

Then he threw his fist around and ran off through the forest.

Meanwhile Blaze somehow found herself at Wave Ocean and walked in the sand between a house and a palm tree.

"So this is the past..." she said and saw two houses near the sand and put her hands on her hips. "I hope Silver is OK. He's pretty insecure when he's alone." she said and looked around and pondered. "The Iblis Trigger. Blue hedgehog..." she said then bowed her head down and looked up, then walked off.

One night at the Castle Town, the Festival of the Sun was being held with fireworks fired up towards the night sky. A large boat came in with Princess Elise on board, waving to the cheering crowds. Once the boat docks at a large platform overlooked by a large cauldron, she stepped off, walking towards a statue. One of the hooded figures then brought in a torch and bestowed it to Elise while she looked at it. After a few seconds of staring at the flame, she visualized a large blast of fire engulfing Soleanna and her floating into the air as she noticed Iblis in the distance emerging from a large crater as it gave a ferocious roar before being snapped back to reality.

Days in the sun

"Miss Elise." Elise's lady-in-waiting said.

"It... It's alright. We give thanks for the blessed flames. May we always continue to have peace. Sun of Soleanna, guide and watch over us with your eternal light..." Elise said and lit a flame with the torch that ignited a frame surrounding a pedestal and finally the large cauldron itself.

When my life has barely begun

Everyone applauded while more fireworks were launched into the sky. No one noticed several missiles streaking out of the sky among the fireworks until it was too late. The missiles landed and impact several buildings around Castle Town, causing everyone to instantly go from celebrating to panicking as they realized Soleanna was under attack. Elise yelped in shock upon witnessing the carnage to her kingdom. The Egg Carrier then flies over the cauldron and drops off Egg Gunners around her and the other figures with her. As they were about to attack, Eggman appeared in his Egg Mobile. The Egg Gunners to the sides glance over as he prepared to confront the Soleanna sovereign.

"A pleasure to meet you at last, Princess of Soleanna. I am Dr. Eggman. I've come here to obtain the secret of the Flames of Disaster from you." Eggman said then pointed to the blue Chaos Emerald that Elise clutched in her hand and pressed tightly against her chest in terrified fear. "And to take the miracle gems that are the keys to its secret... The Chaos Emerald! Now Princess, this way please." he said and pointed towards his direction and Elise began stepping back in fear.

Within a few seconds, blue hurls began appearing circling around in the air, blowing up the robes of the bishop and robed figures with Elise. Elise looked around puzzled before her attention was drawn to a protruding piece of debris as Sonic came to a stop on it.

"My... That's a pretty snazzy performance there." Sonic said.

"You..." Elise said and saw Silver the Hedgehog in Sonic's place. "It can't be?"

Sonic smiled and attacked the Egg Gunners, dispatching them all. The last one she stunned with the energy from her earlier attack as it dispelled over it before she simply nudged it to tip over and off its perch. Then she ran back over next to Elise.

"I'm Sonic. Sonic The Hedgehog!" she said and scooped up Elise in her arms and ran off.

"Not that irritating hedgehog again! Attack!" Eggman said and the Egg Gunners began firing missiles at Sonic as she ran away.

Elise cried out in fright when some impact dangerously close to Sonic as they caused further damage to Castle Town. However, Sonic was able to make it to the rooftops and escape. Silver stood over a roof looking towards Sonic.

"I finally found her... the Iblis Trigger!" he said and clenched his hand into a fist knowing what his objective was now.

Not until my whole life is done

Later Sonic was running through the town with Elise in her arms.

"Umm... Why are you helping me?" Elise asked.

"No special reason." Sonic said and jumped over a canal.

"Sonic!"

More of Eggman's Egg Gunners blocked Sonic's path so she put Elise down and destroyed them. However, she barely had a chance to catch her breath before she heard Elise scream and saw Eggman grabbing her with his Egg Mobile while her back was turned.

"I'm afraid our little game ends now." Eggman said and Elise wriggled an arm free.

"Sonic, take this!" she said and threw the blue Chaos Emerald to Sonic and she caught it.

"I've got it! And don't worry, I'll rescue you!" Sonic said.

"I know." Elise said and Eggman scoffed.

"It's only a matter of time before it's mine. Until then, you can hold onto it for me!" he said and fled with Elise into the Egg Carrier and left Soleanna while Sonic watched it depart.

At the night of the Soleanna Festival, Sonic had just watched the Egg Carrier fly away with Elise and Eggman inside. She had the blue Chaos Emerald that she had given to her in her hand. Meanwhile Silver was atop one of the houses.

"I've finally found her... the Iblis Trigger!" he said and made a fist, as if he knew that vengeance will soon be his.

He jumped off and landed on the rooftop and was about to go after Sonic when Amy grabbed him.

"Now I've got you, Sonic!" Amy said.

"Hey!" Silver said.

"It's about time I finally caught you again!" she said then opened her eyes and looked at him in shock. "Hey! You're not Sonic!" she said then slapped him. "Um... I'm sorry!" she said embarrassed.

Silver tumbled but tried to gain his balance. Amy buried her face in her hands as he looked at her.

"Ah, I'm..." he said and saw Sonic vanished. "Huh? Hey, where'd she go?" he said and looked around again. "She must have run off!" he said and Amy went to him.

"I'm sorry. Did you miss someone because of me?" she said.

"Ah... it's okay. I'm sure the guy I'm looking for is still on the island. I'm sure I can still find him."

"Well then, I'll help you!" she said and grabbed his hand.

"What?"

"Two heads are better than one when looking for someone!"

"Hey, just wait a second!"

"What's your name?" she asked and closed up.

He pauses for a moment.

"...Silver."

"That's a nice name. I'm Amy Rose. It's nice to meet you!" she said and ran off with him, holding his hand.

"Ah... Hey, wait!"

Meanwhile the Soleanna Cathedral was near a bridge.

Later that night at White Acropolis the alarm from Eggman's fortress-like base was heard and a battalion of Egg Gunners marched forward to deal with the intruder. Shadow stormed out of a forest and towards the base. The Egg Gunners shot at him, but Shadow ran through the robots, destroying them as he passed them. He jumpd into the base perimeter as an explosion was heard in the background and hides from the searchlights.

"Transmission from HQ. There's an SOS coming from Dr. Eggman's Base. Our last communication with our agent was 26 hours ago. We expect an immediate rescue, Shadow The Hedgehog." GUN transmission said.

"Understood. Initiating the mission now." Shadow said and teleported away using Chaos Control.

Later Shadow and Rouge, who held the Scepter of Darkness, were walking through the outside base.

"Don't you want to know what this is?" Rouge asked.

"My assignment was to rescue you, nothing more." Shadow said.

"Fine. With you it's always business." she said then the earth shook and three Egg Stingers appeared. "It's seems they don't want us to leave."

Shadow grunted.

"Let's get this over with." he said.

Later they were at New City entering a control room.

"Ah, Soleanna, the city of water. It has a constitutional monarchy, you know. The primary industries are tourism and crafting precision machinery. The current sovereign is Princess Elise the Third." Rouge said.

"Why does Eggman's base lead to an odd place like this?" Shadow asked.

"How should I know? I just followed my orders and retrieved the Item. Anyway, I have a little favor to ask of you. Could you escort me to GUN rendezvous point?"

"Where's the rendezvous point?"

Rouge pointed to map on computer screen.

"It's the ancient castle of Soleanna, in Kingdom Valley." she said.

Will I ever leave you

Sonic was running through Castle Town during the day when she heard Tails calling her name and stopped.

"Sonic!" Tails said.

"Tails! Long time no see!" Sonic said.

"I'm glad that you're here. I heard that you tried to save the Princess from Dr. Eggman. You're going to rescue her, aren't you? Let me help. I may not know what Eggman's up to, but it can't be a good thing!"

"OK! With your help, this should be a piece of cake." she said and ran off.

"Heh heh. I'll do my best!" he said and followed her.

Later at Wave Ocean the Egg Carrier flew away as Sonic and Tails watched it. Then a feather fell down from the sky and Sonic picked it up.

"It looks like the Princess was moved to another location." Tails said and walked around Sonic, while Sonic looked at a feather. "Let's head back to the city!" he said and left.

Sonic clutched the feather and followed.

'A princess for a princess.' she thought and held her medallion. 'If I have to I'll use it.'

Will I tremble again

At Dusty Desert Elise was sitting in a chamber of ancient ruins. Then she got a thought that she remembered from the past.

"You're a good girl, Elise. Remember, be brave. Don't cry no matter what happens." Duke said.

Then Sonic and Tails broke into the room and Sonic came in and Tails waved his hand.

"Ms. Sonic!" Elise said.

"Just call me Sonic." Sonic said and Elise hugged her. "Now then, are you OK?"

"I-I'm so glad that you came..."

"I always keep my word."

"Sonic!" Tails said and they turned their attention to the Egg Cerberus sealed in a caged and it started opening its mouth as Eggman appeared.

"It looks like a pesky rat has stuck its nose where it doesn't belong. Well, a hedgehog to be more precise... The Princess is mine until I unlock the secret of the Flames of Disaster." Eggman said.

"Tails!" Sonic said.

"Got it! Let's go!" Tails said.

To my dear one's gorgeous refrain

In the sunset of Dusty Desert, a large hoard of Egg Gunner robots, led by a trio of Egg Stingers were flying towards somewhere, possibly towards Sonic, Tails, and Elise.

"How long is this going to go on?" Sonic asked.

"Let's split up. I'll get their attention, and you take the Princess." Tails said and she nodded and turned her head towards him.

"OK. You be careful, Tails."

"Leave it to me!" he said then flew off and Sonic held Elise.

"Hold on tight!"

"Ok!" Elise said and Sonic ran off with her.

Meanwhile Amy and Silver were at the Dusty Desert oasis.

"Hmm... I sense Sonic's presence there." Amy said and pointed out ahead while Silver walked in exhaustion. "Call it my girlish intuition." she sand they looked around for Sonic.

"What am I doing?" Silver asked.

Then she looked at him.

"Sorry. As soon as I find Sonic, I'll help you find who you're looking for, Silver." she said and he shook his head and thought for a moment, then looked up.

"This looks so beautiful."

"What? You mean this desert?"

"Everything is so great here, isn't it? The sky is gorgeous, and everyone's happy..." he said and she looked at him in confusion.

"Huh?" she asked and he quickly turned around.

"Let's go. I'll help you find who you're looking for." he said and she nodded, and they ran off through the Dusty Desert.

Will you now forever remain

Meanwhile Sonic ran as she held Elise through some plains and ran up a hill. As she reached towards a peak, she then stopped and placed Elise down. Once she stood up on her own, she bowed to Sonic in gratitude.

"I have no words to express how grateful I am for your help..." she said and noticed Sonic having a cut in her arm. "You're hurt!"

"It's nothing." Sonic said and checked her arm for any injury.

'I've been through worse.' she thought.

"Don't say that." Elise said then used some fabrics as a bandage to cover the injury. "I'm sorry. It's all my fault..."

"Smile." Sonic said then waved her finger and a butterfly flew towards her nose and Elise smiled then lightly flicked the butterfly and it flew away. "Your smile... That's all I need." she said, walked along the hill and Elise followed her. "Eggman mentioned the Flames of Disaster. Is that why he's after you?"

"Yes. The name of the sun god our country honors is Solaris…" Elise said and saw a flashback of the festival. "It is told that Solaris's rage would destroy the world." she said and then saw Iblis from before. "His wrath comes in the form of the Flames of Disaster." she said "10 years ago, we almost faced the full force of his fury... I was a child then, so I don't remember it very well. I lost my father then..." she said and say Eggman looking over his shoulder and appeared. "And now that man is trying to cause the same disaster again..." she said and was back with the sky and ground around them. "What can I do?" she asked then Sonic grabbed her hand and ran together. "Sonic? Sonic! Sonic, wait! I can't run that fast!"

"Don't worry. Just raise your head and run!" Sonic said and they kept running and were somewhere else. "Feels great, doesn't it?"

"Yes. I-I've never run so fast before..."

"Nothing starts until you take action. If you have time to worry, then run!" Sonic said and grabbed Elise's hand.

Out of reach of my arms

Later Shadow and Rouge were at Kingdom Valley entering the open ruins of a great hall.

"The former king of Soleanna used to reside in this castle. But a major accident occurred 10 years ago, and no one's lived here since." Rouge said.

"Accident?" Shadow said.

"I heard a prototype energy engine failed, which caused the accident. I think the name of the plan was..."

Then Eggman dropped down from the air in his Egg Mobile.

"The Solaris Project. It was an ambitious project named after their eternal sun god." he said.

"Doctor!" Rouge said.

"It's been a while, my dear Rouge. And of course, Shadow. Now, if you'd be so kind as to hand back the Scepter of Darkness you took from me."

Egg Gunners surround Shadow and Rouge who dodged a blast from one of them. As Rouge flew up, Eggman knocked her down with his Egg Mobile, causing her to drop the Scepter of Darkness. Shadow saved her.

"No...!" Eggman said and the Scepter of Darkness shattered against the ground and the robots short-circuit.

Shadow approached the scepter when dark smoke leaked from it.

"Shadow!" Rouge said and Darkness shot into the air from the scepter.

"It's no use! Pull back, pull back, pull back!" Eggman said and flew away in the Egg Mobile.

The flying shadow knocked down all the robots before shooting into the ground in front of Shadow. Shadow's shade was drawn into some dark smoke and Mephiles emerged from it.

"What? His shadow..." Rouge said and Mephiles laughed.

"Oh, how ironic fate can be! I would never have believed I would be resurrected through your shade! I thank you Shadow The Hedgehog!" he said and bowed.

"Who are you? How do you know my name?" Shadow asked.

"I'm Mephiles. Mephiles the Dark." he said and walked towards Shadow. "What, did you forget me? I owe much to you Shadow. Oh, yes." he said and formed a purple orb in his hand. "What you gave to me, I now return to you! A one-way ticket to oblivion." he said then surrounded himself, Shadow and Rouge in a purple orb and all three of them disappeared.

At Crisis City a purple orb appeared and deposited Shadow and Rouge from it.

"What is this place?" Rouge asked.

"It seems we've been teleported to another location." Shadow said.

"Well, let's find out where we are." she said and ran away.

"Mephiles..." he said. "Who is he?" he said and followed her.

Meanwhile Amy and Silver were back at Castle Town in disappointment.

"I can't believe we haven't located Sonic yet. Gee, I wonder where she went..." Amy said.

They looked around the town, and Silver saw something in surprise. It was Sonic and Elise returning to town. Sonic suddenly motioned her hand to stop and grabbed Elise as Silver's psychokinetic blast appeared, and Sonic jumped to avoid it as Elise screamed. Sonic suddenly heard Silver's voice and they both looked up.

Sonic and Elise were walking in Soleanna and they suddenly stopped. Sonic noticed an attack coming towards them and, grabbing Elise, jumped to avoid it. Elise cried out as the attack exploded harmlessly where they were. The source of the attack soon descended to confront them.

"I've been looking for you. You're the Iblis Trigger. Your actions will condemn us all." Silver said.

"Who are you?" Sonic asked.

"My name is Silver. For the future of the world, I will destroy you!"

After the fight Silver was weak and Elise was looking at him.

"Hey." Sonic said.

Then Silver psycho-kinetically attacked her, knocking her towards a building where and slammed hard against the stone and fell down to the ground on her knees after hitting it. Elise looked on with worry as Sonic tried to catch her breath as Silver approached, her.

He dropped down to the ground and looked at them, then pointed a finger at her.

"Hmph! Is this a joke? How could someone like you cause the destruction of our world?" he asked and Elise looked as giant mechanical hands approached from behind her to grab her.

"What do you...mean?" Sonic asked and he got up.

"It doesn't matter. For the sake of the future, the Iblis Trigger must be destroyed!"

He was about to destroy her when Elise's scream was heard, and both looked at her being grabbed by Eggman's Egg Mobile as it flew off.

"Elise!? Wait!" Sonic said and tried going after her but Silver hit her with a psychokinetic blast again in the back, knocking her down.

"Don't you dare turn your back on me! It's time I finally put an end to this!" he said about to finish her off when Amy arrived.

"Stop!" she said then appeared and guarded Sonic out of harm's way.

"Amy?" Sonic said.

"Get out of my way, Amy! This is my mission!" Silver said furiously and Amy shook her head.

"Absolutely not!" she said.

Silver's patience was starting to run thin as Sonic got up.

"Thanks Amy. I appreciate it." she said and ran off to chase Elise.

Oh, those days in the sun

"Leave it to me." Amy said still in Silver's way in Soleanna. "The person you were looking for was Sonic? Were you planning to kill him?" she asked and Silver pondered for a bit.

"She's responsible for destroying my world." he said angrily.

"That's crazy!" she said then pointed at him and accused him. "Sonic would never do that!"

"But it's true! In the near future, her actions will cause the devastation of my world. So I must..."

"No! I don't believe it. Even if that was true. If I had to choose between the world and Sonic, I would choose Sonic!" she said then ran off in disbelief, and he tried to explain, but stopped.

He hung his head down in confusion, wondering what to do.

Later Silver sat down at the harbor step in New City, still in wonder over Sonic for a long time. Just then Blaze arrived, and put her hands on her hips.

"So this is where you are. I've been looking for you." she said.

Silver heard her voice, but turned his head back to the shore, still pondering. She walked up to him on the steps.

"What's wrong?" she asked and looked at him closely as he pondered.

Silver sighed.

"Well, uh, Blaze. To kill someone to save the world..." he said then turned his head to the shore again. "Is that really the right thing to do?"

Blaze put her hands on her hips again in disappointment.

"You're so naive. Whether it's right or wrong, I can't really say..." she said and turned his head to her, clueless. "But what I do know is..." she said and crossed her arms. "If we don't take this chance, the future will remain exactly as it is."

Then she made a sad face, and Silver looked up to her and nodded, then got up.

"Since she's after Dr. Eggman, let's sneak into Eggman's base. Maybe we'll learn something new." he said.

Meanwhile Sonic kept running to catch up to Eggman and Elise while Amy held off Silver.

Later Sonic and Tails arrived at a seaport in New City and encounter Knuckles who was holding a card.

"Knuckles." Sonic said.

"I saw Eggman on the outskirts of the city." Knuckles said and threw the card to her. "He wanted to give this to you."

Sonic looked at the card and a holographic message from Eggman showed up.

"Sonic the Hedgehog. If you want me to return the Princess, you must give me your Chaos Emerald. Meet me at my base in White Acropolis." Eggman said and the recording ended and Sonic handed the card back to Knuckles, who fumbled it before dropping it and stomping on it with his shoe.

"Huh. He's pretty cocky." he said and crushed the card.

'As usual.' he thought.

"It's most definitely a trap. I don't think Eggman will honor his agreement." Tails said and Sonic looked at her Chaos Emerald.

"I'm going." she said.

"Sonic?"

"Since Eggman went to the trouble of telling me where Elise is. I think I should thank him personally."

Sure enough Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles arrived at Eggman's base in White Acropolis.

"You're late." Eggman said looking down at them from an upper viewing area.

"Well, we had to deal with your little pets." Knuckles said.

"Where's Elise?" Sonic asked.

"My, aren't we impatient..." Eggman said then grabbed Elise and was holding her by his side.

"Sonic!" Elise said and Team Sonic got ready to fight.

"Ah ah. You better not move. Now, the Chaos Emerald..." Eggman said and Sonic took it out. "Place it there." he said and pointed to a capsule that rises from the ground while Elise shook her head and Sonic put the Emerald in the capsule and it receded back into the ground. Eggman smiled wickedly then pressed a button on a control panel next to him. "Hmph!"

Then a pink force field generated from the ceiling, surrounding Sonic, Tails and Knuckles.

"Huh!? Wha-!?" Tails said.

"Wha!?" Knuckles said then tried punching the field but got knocked back.

"It's no use. It's too powerful for you to overcome. Now allow me to introduce you to my latest creation. This is the Solaris prototype." Eggman said and Elise gasped while he laughed and pulled a handle on a nearby control podium. "With this machine, I'll be able to control the flow of time itself!"

Then Sonic, Tails and Knuckles were sucked upwards by the machine.

"Whooah!" Sonic said.

"Ahhhhh!" Tails said.

"Arrrrrhhhh!" Knuckles said.

The force field disappeared along with them. Elise leaned against the window in despair at what she just witnessed.

"Rest assured... They're not dead... yet. They've just been teleported by my glorious invention to another time. Who knows where they'll end up? It could be the distant past or far future. But my machine still requires some fine-tuning. In fact, what my machine needs in order to be complete, is your power." Eggman said.

"My power?" Elise said.

"Yes, I can finally complete my plans... Now that I have the Chaos Emeralds, and you... The Princess of Soleanna. That's all I need to revive the Flames of Disaster. And with its power, I will be able to control everything and rule the world. So, you would be wise to remain on my "good" side." he said then walked off to her.

She put her hands together to pray as she looked skyward.

At Crisis City Shadow and Rouge were in a computer room.

"I'm in... I've pinpointed our location, It's..." Rouge said then tapped on the keyboard and screen appeared. "No... that's not possible... We're still in the Doctor's base. But how can that be? Wait there's no doubt now!"

"So, It's not where we are..." Shadow said while she tapped on keyboard and more information appeared on the screen then she gasped. "It appears we've gone through time... doesn't it?

"Yes... Approximately 200 years. Maybe more, depending on when this database was last updated. Well, at least we know we've arrived in the future. That means this Mephiles character has the power to control time."

"His power feels very similar to my own Chaos Control. But..." he said and they heard bumps in the next room.

What I'd give to relive just one

At a ruined future of the same location, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles fell down from the machine in the top of the room. Sonic landed on her feet, Tails landed on his rump, and Knuckles landed on his head.

"Boy, do I feel dizzy..." Tails said and looked around. "Where are we?"

Then someone approached them from a higher ledge.

"Oh, look who's here! I didn't expect to see you guys." someone said and they looked up and see Shadow and Rouge.

"Rouge! Shadow!" Tails said.

"Hi. Long time no see!" Rouge said.

Later at Crisis City Sonic, Shadow, Tails, Knuckles and Rouge looked over the destroyed city.

"This is the distant future, far removed from our own timeline." Shadow said.

"The future? Then that means Eggman's machine can control time!" Tails said.

"Eggman's got some nerve dropping us here." Sonic said and Knuckles kicked a rock.

"Now. How can we get back to our own time?" Knuckles said.

"You need a space-time rift, but this requires a lot of energy." Shadow said.

"I see. You mean using your Chaos Control will..." Sonic said.

"Yes, but that alone is insufficient."

"Okay Shadow. It looks like we need to work together."

Shadow nodded and Rouge did as well in agreement that, for the time being, Team Sonic and Team Dark will have to work together to return to the present.

Meanwhile Silver and Blaze had arrived at Eggman's base in White Acropolis in their search for Sonic. However, the base was closed, and Sonic was nowhere to be seen. Then snow fell near the base.

"Looks like we've arrived a little too late." Silver said.

Suddenly the ground trembled beneath them, and they looked around to see what caused it, until they looked upward.

"What? Oh no!" he said.

Meanwhile Silver and Blaze discovered the blue Chaos Emerald in the snow. Silver approached the Emerald and knelt down to grab it.

"That's a Chaos Emerald." Blaze said and Silver gazed upon the Emerald and looked at her, then got up. "It's said this gem can transform your thoughts into power. Collect seven, and a miracle's supposed to happen. Keep it as a lucky charm." she said and walked off while he watched, then gazed at the Emerald again.

"It transforms your thoughts into power..." Silver said.

Back at Eggman's base, Amy was slowly looking around for Sonic near a cell door.

"Hmm... I've been trying to find Sonic but now I think I'm in trouble." she said and hid beneath the corner of a wall and saw Eggman's three floating robots looking both ways before moving on. "Maybe I should just walk away real quietly before they spot me." she said and snuck around when Elise opened the cell door in front of her and saw her.

"Oh!" Elise said.

Both were surprised to see each other when an alarm sounded, and they were cornered.

"Prisoner has escaped from Cell Block C-17. All patrolling guards, begin searching immediately." Sentry said.

Amy turned to Elise.

"This way!" she said.

"O... OK!" Elise said.

"I repeat: Prisoner has escaped from Cell Block C-17." Sentry said while they were speaking.

Amy and Else both ran away from the alarm while the sentry spoke.

Soon Amy and Elise had returned to New City and were walking around the town.

"Thank you so much for rescuing me. I am so grateful!" Elise said.

"I'm Amy. Amy Rose." Amy said.

"My name is Elise."

Amy examined her.

"Elise... Wait, you're not Elise, the Princess of Soleanna, are you? I'll bet someone's already on their way to rescue you."

"Um, yes, but someone I know said to me... "Nothing starts until you take action." So I decided to heed his advice."

"Hmm... You wouldn't happen to have some feelings for this person, would you?"

"What? No! Of course not." Elise said embarrassed and Amy interrupted her.

"It's OK. Love changes everything." she said then walked and looked up. "It feels like every little moment in your life is huge!" she said and spread her arms wide on the word "huge" and turned to Elise with sparkles around her. "Doesn't it?" she asked and Elise looked at her, then hung her head down. "So, what does this guy look like? Have you already been on a date with him?"

"Well, no... I really haven't..."

"A one-way love? That's so cute. Come on, there's no need to be shy. Look, you're a Princess and you're super cute. That guy's the lucky one! I also have someone that I'm pursuing, too. I wish us both luck!" Amy said then held both hands to Elise's, and they laughed with each other.

Later Elise walked around the castle, glad to be inside her home, when Eggman's robot dropped down in front of her. She gasped in shock, and more robots dropped down, until she was completely surrounded. All of a sudden, Eggman's Egg Mobile fluttered downward and approached her.

"Finally, I've been waiting so patiently for you to return, Princess." he said.

Elise looked at him in surprise, then put her hands on her heart, as if she refused to be taken in captivity.

Undo what's done

Meanwhile Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles were wondering about in a corridor of a ruined building.

"No matter where we go, all we see are ruins. How can this be our future?" Knuckles said and they turned to look at their surroundings.

"How could it come to this?" Tails asked.

Then Sonic noticed gas flowing from a room slightly opened with various noticed and warnings on the door. Then they turned to have a peak inside to discover what's happening within.

"Could it be true?" Silver asked Mephiles and they saw Silver, and Blaze standing in front of a large database computer. "If I eliminate that guy, will our world be saved?" he asked and Mephiles nodded.

"The Day of Disaster... Here are my records of this event. This was when Iblis was freed and his flames were released into the world." he said then pressed a key and the screen displayed screenshots from the present timeline. "And you have this person to blame."

Then he held his purple Chaos Emerald out. Silver took a hold of it and stared at it. Then a stream of fire surrounding Sonic as she turned with a stern look on her face.

"I see it! So, That blue hedgehog's the Iblis Trigger?" Silver said.

"Blue hedgehog..." Blaze said.

"I'll send us back in time to the point when the Iblis Trigger was alive." Mephiles said and formed a purple orb in his hands that expanded, covering them along with him and then disappeared out of sight.

Then Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles approached towards the computer.

"What the... Who was that guy? He looked just like Shadow..." Knuckles said.

"Th-This is terrible!" Tails said and typed on the keys. "According to the data, the Princess died when she was kidnapped by Eggman! Apparently Eggman's battleship exploded!" he said and types on the keys. "The date of this incident was... two days after the Festival of the Sun!"

"If we don't return in time, Elise will die onboard Eggman's battleship. That means..." Sonic started.

"Yeah... I think so."

Sonic punched her hands together in frustration while Tails typed on the keys.

Knuckles looked at her and saw the look in her eyes so walked over to her.

"If you have to jump use it. We'll think of something to tell them." he whispered and she nodded.

And bring back the light

At Crisis City Shadow and Rouge were walking down a street. Rouge was holding the green Chaos Emerald.

"My precious Chaos Emerald. You are all so beautiful. Your mysterious brilliance..." she said then they noticed a dusty E-123 Omega lying down against a building. "Omega what's he doing here?"

Shadow took a look at Omega's back display.

"It seems he's in standby mode." he said.

"What could have possibly happened to create this future?" she said and received a message from Sonic and her friends. "Yes, this is Rouge. Understood. We'll be there in a minute. It looks like Sonic and his friends have found something, too. Let's go. It's not like we can do anything for him now."

"Yeah." he said and they walked, Rouge a little more hesitantly.

Later that night Shadow and Rouge met with Sonic, Tails and Knuckles at Flame Core.

"You guys are so slow. Look." Rouge said and showed the green Chaos Emerald.

"A Chaos Emerald! You've already found one!" Tails said.

"Well now... I may not look It, but I'm a real treasure hunter. Unlike a certain echidna I know." she said and Knuckles got up in her face.

"What?" Knuckles said then scoffed and walked away

"Have you guys discovered anything?" Shadow asked.

"Um, yeah." Tails said. "I received a signal indicating there's a Chaos Emerald here, but..." he said and pointed into the distance.

"You mean we've got to go through there?" Rouge asked and Knuckles got up in her face again.

"If you don't like it, you can stay here." Knuckles said.

"You've got to be kidding!" she said and he walked away while Sonic pointed at Shadow.

"Don't be late." Sonic said.

"Same to you." Shadow said and walked away.

Then they ran away.

At a volcanic pool, Rouge flew away from Sonic, Shadow, Tails and Knuckles up to the cyan Chaos Emerald floating in the air.

Iblis now at phase 2 sprung out of the lava. Rouge flew back to the group, Shadow rushing in front of them. Iblis looked down at them as lava and flames continued splashing around him.

"What? What's this?" Rouge asked while Iblis swung at the group, hissing and snarling viciously.

After defeating Iblis, Sonic and Shadow faced each other with Knuckles, Tails and Rouge behind them. Then Sonic and Shadow nodded at each other, pulled out the Emeralds, nodded at each other and crossed them.

"Chaos Control!" they said and the Emeralds began flashing rapidly and emit a white swirling light into the air that transforms into a blue swirling portal suspended in mid-air.

Sonic proceeded towards the portal while Tails and Knuckles followed. Rouge flew into the air and turned to Shadow then flew to the portal while Shadow turned around, sensing something giving him pause to return to the present with Rouge.

At New City the Time-Space rift appeared with Rouge and the green Chaos Emerald being deposited from it.

"Shadow? Shadow!" she said and found the Chaos Emerald. "Shadow... And he doesn't have a Chaos Emerald anymore..."

"Agent Rouge? Report your status immediately. Have you retrieved the Scepter of Darkness?" GUN asked.

"Well... I'll provide a full report shortly. Right now. I have a priority situation to deal with. I need to contact E123 Omega immediately." she said and smiled.

Meanwhile a blue swirling portal appeared at some place in Soleanna New City and Sonic, Tails and Knuckles came out through it before disappearing.

"Oww..." Tails said.

"Looks like we make it back in one piece." Knuckles said.

"Where did Shadow and Rouge go? Did they appear someplace else?"

"Those two can take care of themselves." Sonic said, saw a newspaper lying on the ground and proceeded reading it and Tails and Knuckles also moved towards Sonic to read it as well.

Oh, I could sing

Meanwhile Omega was walking through Tropical Jungle ruins when Rouge appeared.

"This is a charming little place. someone said and Omega noticed Rouge. "Hi, long time no see."

"Rouge The Bat." Omega said and she told him what happened. "Situation understood. What would you like me to do?" he said and she held out the green Chaos Emerald.

"Take this, and deliver it to Shadow." she said and he took the Emerald and put it in his torso compartment.

"System reactivation countdown initiated. Backup power source and spare magazines secured. Command program priority changed. New Mission: Shadow Support. External access no longer permitted. Confirmed."

"I'm counting on you." she said and he walked away.

At Flame Core Shadow caught up Mephiles.

"So, decided to void your return ticket now, did you?" Mephiles said.

"Why are you here? Did you ruin this world?" Shadow asked.

"The answer's yes and no. Perhaps it's better to show you." Mephiles said then snapped his fingers and a cage with a future version of Shadow imprisoned in it appear and Shadow looked at it with wide eyes. "Yes that's you. After the world was devastated by Iblis' flames what do you think happened? A search for the guilty. What did this you may ask? Humanity wasn't just jealous of your power. They feared it. They used this incident as an excuse to hunt you down. Come with me, Shadow. Let us punish this foolish world of humanity. It is only fair to give back what was intended for you. You have every right to want justice."

"That's absurd. Whatever it is you want to do, you can do it alone."

"You forgive humanity this folly then?"

"I determine my own destiny."

Mephiles transformed into his crystalline form and prepared to fight him.

When they were done Mephiles was down as Shadow approached him, but Mephiles got up and knocked him into a tree with an energy ball, incapacitating him. As Mephiles moved towards Shadow, Omega appeared and shot between them.

"Omega!" Shadow said.

"Now is the designated time." Omega said and retracted arm cannon. "I shall assist."

After the fight Mephiles was knocked down and tried to get up as Shadow and Omega faced him.

Then he grunted and got back on his feet and formed a purple orb he escaped into.

"Mephiles!" Shadow said.

Then they jumped into the orb just before it disappeared.

At New City a purple orb appeared depositing Shadow and Omega. Shadow looked around.

"It appears Mephiles is no longer here. I will assist in pursuing him." Omega said and Shadow nodded and started walking away.

Soon Rouge found them in the warehouse district.

"Hi. It seems like Eggman's machines are looking for you. What did you do this time?" she asked.

"Nothing. Their target is probably Mephiles." Shadow said.

"What is Eggman up to? Who is Mephiles?" Omega asked.

"I'm gonna ask him directly." Shadow said and started walking away.

"Hey, wait a sec!" Rouge said.

"I can handle this alone. You keep track of Mephiles." he said and walked away from them.

"Hmph. He finally shows up again and then he leaves before even saying, "Hello." Well, it seems his little trip hasn't changed him." she said then talked on wrist communicator. "This is Rouge. GUN HQ? Yes, pull all available data on an item called the Scepter of Darkness for me."

Meanwhile Silver and Blaze had arrived in New City when they discovered Mephiles again, with his head hung down.

"Mephiles..." Silver said and they looked at each other, then at Mephiles again. "Tell me. Who is the Iblis Trigger? Why does he want to destroy the world?" he asked and Mephiles looked up.

"Why does that matter to you?" he asked and pointed at Silver. "Unless you complete your task, your future will remain the same... forever." he said and looked at him, then put his hand down. "He's currently at the terminal station. It's now or never if you want this." he said and showed a path to him, then walked away.

Blaze got a closer look at the path, then looked at Silver. After a few moments, he moved onward, and she followed him.

Meanwhile Shadow broke into Eggman's train through the roof.

"Wouldn't the door have been easier? So, what do you want now?" Eggman asked.

"Who is Mephiles? And why are you trying to capture him?" Shadow asked.

"If you want to know, you should go find him yourself. But here's a hint... It's all linked to the Soleanna disaster 10 years ago."

"The Solaris Project."

"Indeed. When you capture Mephiles, you must bring him to me. Then I'll tell you the truth about Solaris."

Shadow nodded hesitantly, still unsure if he could trust him yet.

Later Sonic had just rescued Elise from the exploding Radical Train and ran from the railroad tracks with her.

"I knew it. I knew you'd return! You had to!" Elise said.

All of a sudden a psychokinetic blast attacked them and Sonic jumped backward. Then she sets her down again and they saw Silver in front of them again.

"...You again." Sonic said.

'For the love of Chaos!' she thought.

"This time there will be no more interruptions!" Silver said and pointed at her. "The Iblis Trigger... must die!"

"Sonic..." Elise said.

Silver used a psychokinetic blast knocking Sonic onto the floor. Then he trapped her with Psychoshock, draining her energy, and Elise kept trying to hold back tears.

"So how was your little walk, Princess?" Eggman asked and the Egg Mobile appeared and grabbed her with its two hands before flying away.

Elise cried out in fear as she's grabbed.

"Elise!" Sonic said.

Silver used another Psychoshock to stun her and gave a "hmph".

"It's time to end this!" he said.

He was about to finish her off when Shadow dropped down in front of him in the nick of time.

"Who?" Silver said surprised and they looked at each other. "Mephiles! Why are you getting in my way?" he asked and Shadow got up.

"I'm Shadow. Shadow the Hedgehog." Shadow said.

Both look at each other in confusion, and Shadow looked at the recovering Sonic, who gave a nod and thumb up to him for saving her life. Then she got up and ran off to find Elise and Eggman while Shadow dealt with Silver, and both prepare to fight.

Of the pain these dark days bring

"Chaos Control!" Shadow said.

The blast slowed down Silver while Shadow avoided his punch and roundhouse kicked him from behind, knocking him down. Silver looked at him and got up, all worn out and paralyzed.

"You..." Silver said.

"Don't bother. With a Chaos Emerald's power, I control time and space. You can't break free." Shadow said and held out the emerald.

"I won't give up! It all depends on me!" Silver said and shrugged his shoulders. "Can't lose. Not when I'm so close!" he said and finally got up and took out the blue emerald, held it aloft, and yelled out in fury.

Then he went to Shadow and his green emerald.

Shadow held the emerald aloft.

"Chaos..." he started as Silver did it at the same time.

"Chaos..." he said.

Shadow and Silver: "Control!" they said and a light emerged from both emeralds, and they jumped back from each other as it split up.

"Huh?" Silver said and a space-time rift opened up in front of them.

"You... induced a Chaos Control." Shadow said in wonder.

"I won't let anyone get in my way! I'll change the past and save the world."

Shadow shook his head in disappointment.

"Mephiles isn't trying to help you create a better future... He's trying to eliminate the past." he said.

"What? What are you talking about?" asked confused.

Shadow walked up to him.

"To discover what happened, it seems we must see what took place 10 years ago." he said and Silver wondered what this could mean. "Follow me if you want the truth." he said then jumped into the portal, and Silver looked at it and paused a bit before nodding and going into it.

At Aquatic Base a Time-Space rifts opened and deposited Shadow and Silver in a long corridor. They were in a l large room with the Duke of Soleanna and some scientists watching a cylinder filled with sparkling orange energy.

"An electromagnetic pulse has just been generated! Injecting decompression agent! No, the level's not dropping!" the scientist said and the Solaris Project scientists were having a hard time controlling it. "A spatial meltdown is inevitable! My Lord, it's too late! We've got to take shelter!"

Duke of Soleanna slammed his fists on the machine.

"Why, Solaris? Why do you refuse to listen to my voice?" he asked.

"Father!" Elise said and ran up to him.

"Elise!" he said surprised and looked at little Elise when a noise was heard.

He quickly looked at the Solaris Project and sheltered Elise as an explosion rocks the laboratory. Shadow and Silver noticed the explosion, look at each other, and ran off to the lab. Soon the smoldering labwas in ruins, with its glass windows broken. Silver and Shadow arrived at the site of the accident. They looked at each other, then jumped down to the floor and got up. Shadow noticed the Duke, ran up to him, and checked him for a pulse. He tried to wake up the unconscious Duke while Silver knelt down near the scientist's dead body and looked at something.

"Is that!?" he said and noticed the birth of the Flames of Disaster, whose light faded out into a dwarf and split up, dropping blob bits into the water. "That flame... It's Iblis!" he said as the Flames of Disaster grew larger.

"And the black shadow is the original Mephiles." Shadow said.

"That's Mephiles!?" Silver said and the flame, Iblis, flew out of the lab while the black blob puddle, oozed out of there. "They're escaping!"

"We'll have to split up. I'll pursue Mephiles."

"OK. Then leave Iblis to me!"

Shadow nodded, and they began to chase the two parts.

"Wait." Duke said and Shadow saw he was still alive, then ran up to him terribly wounded in the explosion, tried getting up and took out some sort of scepter. He saw Shadow though he was weak.] "Seal it with this..." he said holding out the Scepter of Darkness.

"Hurry!" Silver said.

As Silver ran off, Shadow took the Scepter of Darkness from the Duke and followed him out of the lab. The wounded Duke was thankful for Shadow while little 7-year-old Elise lied unconscious next to her father, who took care of her.

Of the pain these dark days bring

The Egg Mobile flew overhead above some plains and Elise was standing on the edge.

"Now stop it. You have no where to go." Eggman said.

"I would rather die than be your prisoner again!" Elise said.

"Hmph! So, what are you going to do, Princess? Do you plan to jump?"

Below on the ground, Sonic was running towards the Egg Mobile.

"Farewell." Else said then leaned back and fell off the Egg Mobile, leaving Eggman stunned.

"Huh?" he said.

Then Sonic caught Elise in her arms, arriving just in time to catch her before she hit the ground.

"Sonic!" Elise said.

Eggman growled.

"You won't get away that easily!" he said.

The spell we're under

At the Forest, Sonic walked while holding Elise's hand and Elise stopped to catch her breath.

"That was a gutsy move back there!" Sonic said.

"Well, I was desperate... and um... I just had to get away. I owe you a lot, Sonic..." Elise said.

"Uh..." Sonic said then turned to see a large hoard of Egg Gunners flying towards her direction. "I'll head into the jungle!"

"OK!"

Then Sonic carried Elise in her arms and took off.

Soon they were deep within the Forest, Sonic, with Elise in her arms, ran through the lush jungle.

"It looks like we've lost them." Elise said.

"I'll settle things here. Elise, you should go back to the castle." Sonic said.

"OK..." Elise said and Sonic made a turn to the right. "Sonic?" she said and they stopped by a lake surrounded by green grass and numerous trees. "It's so beautiful! I've never seen so many flowers before! Sonic, have you visited many wonderful places before?"

"Yeah."

"Once you defeat Eggman... you'll leave, won't you?" Elise said and Sonic nodded. "Though I've been frightened many times, I've also enjoyed this adventure. It allowed me to be something other than a Princess. I was able to be myself... a girl."

"It sounds like being a Princess isn't that easy."

'I should know. That's one of the reasons why I left.' she thought.

"It isn't sometimes, but I love this country. Everyone in the castle, the children, all my citizens really... The same love my late father and mother had..."

The Duke of Soleanna was sitting on a chair gently stroking a younger Elise's forehead.

"Don't cry, Elise. Become a strong queen who doesn't cry no matter what happens." he said and the flashback ended.

"And so, I do my best to protect my country. I understand everything my parents said to me now. Sonic, if you leave here to go on another adventure... Remember this place."

"Definitely." Sonic said and Elise suddenly strayed away for a few minutes. "Elise?"

"I'm fine... Sorry."

'I mustn't cry... I can't...' she thought and quickly hugged Sonic before seeming she was about to cry.

"Elise... smile."

At Soleanna, a Soleanna Royal Guard was conversing with two citizens. A shadow of the Egg Carrier was seen and the three turned to look at the Egg Carrier flying above the city. Citizens began to panic as Eggman made his announcement.

"Princess Elise, ruler of Soleanna... By refusing to negotiate with me, you have forced me to take drastic actions." he said and Amy was in the crowd witnessing the Egg Carrier before turning to run away. "Meet me at the specified point alone 4 o'clock today. Failure to do so on time, will result in my leveling of this city so that nothing but ashes remain!"

Elise stood outside on the balcony of her castle as she listened to this.

"Miss Elise...!" Elise's lady-in waiting 1 said.

"I cannot allow harm to come to my people." Elise said.

As the Egg Carrier flew closer in the background, Elise turned to leave but stopped.

"Miss Elise...!" Elise's lady-in waiting 2 said.

"It is my duty as Princess of Soleanna to go... There is no other choice." she said and kept walking, heading to rendezvous and surrender to Eggman for the sake of her people.

Meanwhile Silver used his psychokinesis to entrap Iblis, and tried holding up his strength as best as he could, when he noticed the weakened Duke approaching, holding his unconscious daughter.

"Hey! What are you doing? You've got to leave!" Silver said.

"I have my duty. This Living Flame has been entrusted to the royal family." Duke said and approached Iblis. "The Flames of Disaster will awaken if nothing is done! That must not happen." he said and set Elise down on the altar, took out the white Chaos Emerald, held it aloft, launched it upward, took a few steps backward and prayed.

"Eternal Sun! The Living Flame that has been entrusted to the royal family! Fall into slumber with a royal soul!" he said and lifted his hands upward, and Iblis shrunk, becoming minuscule, and vanished into the emerald, which then injected it as a beam of light into Elise, who moved a little.

Silver's psychokinesis stopped and he looked in wonder. The Duke collapsed on the altar, weakened and all worn out and trying to breathe. Silver looked at him as he picked up the unconscious Elise and stumbleed onto him.

"I'm sorry, but..." he said weakly and looked at Silver. "Can you take her to a safe place?"

Silver clutched Elise in his arms as her father falls to the floor and takes one last look at her and Silver. The Duke takes her hand and places it on her other hand, then cradles her head softly.

"That's a good girl, Elise. Remember, be brave. Don't cry, no matter what happens. Otherwise your tears will call forth the flames inside you... Become a strong queen who doesn't cry no matter what happens. And... live... happily..."

The Duke crumbled onto the floor and breathed his last breath. Silver looked at his dead body, then at the altar, and then at Elise. He grieved a bit over her father, and looked up at the sky and the emerald.

At Aquatic Base Mephiles in his liquid form slithered away.

Shadow held up the green Chaos Emerald.

"Chaos Control!" he said.

"...What? ...Stop!" Mephiles said and Shadow let Shadow let the Scepter of Darkness float in front of him.

The scepter glowed, beginning the process of drawing Mephiles into it.

"Who... Who are... you?"

"I'm Shadow. Shadow The Hedgehog." Shadow said.

"Shadow... Your face... Your form... I will remember. Your death... Certain... You... will die!" Mephiles said then was sucked completely into the Scepter of Darkness, sealing him within it.

After it fell to the ground, Shadow slowly picked the scepter up.

Outside the Aquatic Base, Silver clutched the unconscious Elise in his arms as Shadow walked out to him with Mephiles sealed in the Scepter of Darkness in Kingdom Valley.

"Did you do it?" Silver asked.

"Yes. And you?" Shadow said and Silver paused and nodded.

"...Yes. The "Flames" are properly sealed. It's done."

Silver carried her and set her near a tree, then looked at her. Shadow held up the Scepter of Darkness, then walked around and looked at them both. He knelt down and set the Scepter on the grass near the same tree.

"You're going to leave it behind?" Silver said.

"Yes, I already know what becomes of it in the future..." Shadow said then looked at him, then stood up and took out the green Chaos Emerald. "It's time to return."

Silver got up, looked at Elise, and walked away.

"Yes... Of course..." he said.

Then they took an emerald in hand, approach each other, and held them aloft.

"Chaos Control!" they said and the light emerged from both emeralds once again and split up, opening a space-time rift in front of them.

Shadow jumped into it, and Silver looked at Elise once again. She started to move around, and he walked to the portal as she moved.

"Father..." she mumbled.

Silver looked at her, then took out the blue emerald, looked at it one last time, then went to her slowly. He knelt down at her dormant body, then took her hand, and set the emerald upon it.

"It's a lucky charm." he said then set the Emerald and her hand down on her lap, and Elise moved around again to the other side.

Then he got up and took one last look at her, then turned around, ran, and jumped into the time portal as it closed.

At New City a Time-Space rift appeared depositing Shadow right in front of Rouge.

"You're back sooner than I expected. Omega is still in pursuit of Mephiles. So, where's the kid? What did you find 10 years ago?" Rouge said.

"I need you to access GUN's database. Specifically, find out what materials the Scepter of Darkness was made from." Shadow said.

"Sure. But you haven't answered my question yet!"

"I found the means to seal Mephiles." he said and walked away with Rouge right behind him.

Back at present-day Soleanna, the portal opened up, and Silver dropped to the ground in front of Blaze, who looked at him.

"Blaze..." he said and Blaze crossed her arms.

"What did you see?" she asked.

Silver looked down and paused for a second.

"The Iblis Trigger... wasn't Sonic the Hedgehog." he said.

"I see..."

Then they heard crowds of people noise and Silver turned around at the commotion.

"They're quite noisy." he said.

"Yes. I heard that the Princess here left for Dr. Eggman's base in response to his earlier threat."

"What if his ultimate objective was to release Iblis?" he asked surprised.

She turned to him in surprise, they nodded at each other and walked off.

At Wave Ocean Omega was shooting Mephiles with limited success.

"This only proves you were created to stop Shadow, the ultimate life form. Don't tell me you didn't know. You may have been programmed by humanity, but what you did to Shadow in the future, that was your..." Mephiles said.

Omega transformed his hands into gating guns and shot Mephiles who after taking all shots disappeared in a puff of smoke laughing. Then Shadow and Rouge arrived.

"What just happened?" Rouge asked.

"Shadow. The one that defeats and seals you in the future... is me." Omega said and explained his story.

"It's... It's so unfair! Shadow's always here to defend the world! Despite that!"

"Eventually, when something or someone is seen as too powerful... It is seen as a threat, and then the world becomes its enemy." Shadow said and walked away.

"Shadow... Even if you believe everyone in the world will be against you. Know that I'll always remain by your side. Remember that."

He stopped walking.

"I will." he said and kept walking.

Meanwhile Eggman trapped Elise inside the Egg Carrier and she was sitting on a chair.

"You've wasted so much of my time. If you had cooperated with me earlier, I wouldn't have to do this." Eggman said.

"What are you trying to do, Dr. Eggman? Why do you wish to revive the Flames of Disaster?" Elise asked.

"Did your parents ever disclose to you anything about Solaris? Solaris's secrets are in his eternal flames. His power... can change time, and even manipulate the fabric of time itself. I wish to obtain this power and dominate everything in this world. From the past all the way to the future!"

"You wish... to rule over... Time?"

"Yes. Truly. And the secret... It remains dormant in you, Princess." Eggman said then proceeded to his ship's interface and began inputting commands. "The Princess of Soleanna and the seven Chaos Emeralds... Once I have everything, the fate of the world will change. And one of the beautiful gems is just ahead."

"Chaos Emerald located." Egg Carrier mother computer said.

"Finally... Now, let's go collect that Chaos Emerald."

Still it's the wonder of us I sing of tonight

Meanwhile Sonic ran through the Tropical Jungle when Eggman's mechs arrived to attack her. She slid and saw them, prepared to fight them, and one of them raised a gun to her when all the robots were grabbed by a Psychoshock, and Silver dropped down and used blasts from both hands to knock them all out, causing them to explode on the ground. He then turned to Sonic.

"You look like you're in a hurry." he said and Sonic crossed her arms.

"...So what's going on?" she asked and he paused.

"Circumstances have changed." he said and turned to her again. "I need to rescue the Princess."

She nodded in approval, then gave a thumb up and ran off, and Silver followed.

How in the midst of all this sorrow

Inside the Egg Carrier, an alarm was going off and Eggman was frantically typing on the keys at his interface while Elise watched.

"Huh? The engines are malfunctioning." Eggman said and Elise stood up. "What's this? Stop all engines now!" he said but got no response and pounded on his interface in frustration and horror. "...Why is this happening? No! We're about to crash!"

A section of the Egg Carrier from outside burst into flames, emitting smoke. Later, the Egg Carrier was seen from Kingdom Valley losing altitude and then exploded into an orange tint behind a mountain as it disappears from view. Sonic arrived at the moment it happened with Silver and Blaze right behind her.

"Elise!" Sonic said in shock then dropped to the ground in despair and slammed her fist in anger and grief.

'Damnit! I guess it's a good thing I left home. I'd be a terrible queen.' she thought.

Silver and Blaze were in mourning for Elise. But then Silver looked up and realized something, then looked at Sonic.

"Wait, there's still a way to change this." he said and Blaze looked at him, and Sonic was recovering from grief and loss and looked at him. "If we return to an earlier point in time, we'll be able to save her."

Sonic recovered and took a look at the hillside where the Egg Carrier crashed, then got up.

"I understand." she said.

Silver held out the white Chaos Emerald, and Sonic held out the turquoise one. Then she walked up to him while Blaze watched. Both of them nodded at each other and held the emeralds aloft.

"Chaos Control!" they said and the light emerged from the emeralds and split up, opening a space-time rift.

They looked at the portal, and Sonic quickly ran and tossed the turquoise emerald to him.

"Silver!" Sonic said and Silver caught the emerald with his left hand. "I can handle this myself. Besides, you've got somewhere to go," she said. "right?"

"You..." Silver said amazed.

"I'll make sure to change Elise's fate." she said then raised a fist and looked at him before continuing. "And that in turn should change your future, too."

Silver, with a Chaos Emerald in each hand, nodded in agreement as Blaze put her hands on her hips in wonder.

Sonic gave a thumb up.

"Thank you, Silver!" she said.

"Yeah... Just save her." Silver said so she nodded and jumped into the rift.

Silver and Blaze turned and nodded at each other, then jumped into the portal one by one.

Meanwhile a blue swirling portal appeared at Soleanna New City and Sonic came out of it then heard a bell ringing and looked at a clock tower, reading noon. She quickly regrouped with Tails and Knuckles and headed for the Egg Carrier's hangar in Aquatic Base.

"Thrust increasing. Engine output at maximum. Course plotted." Egg Carrier mother computer said and the Egg Carrier started preparing to depart from Aquatic Base. "Gate open. Lifting off."

Red machines holding the Egg Carrier in place detached and receded into the walls. The Egg Carrier proceeded taking off. Just then, Sonic ran along a catwalk above the Egg Carrier and jumped onto the craft, landing just on its metal tail before it could accelerate too much and she missed her chance to board and save Elise and Eggman. The Egg Carrier zoomed off towards its inevitable demise.

Inside the Egg Carrier, events play out like before as an alarm was going off while Eggman was frantically typing at the Egg Carrier's interface, trying to save his doomed ship.

"...Why is this happening? Noooooo!!" Eggman said.

"Playtime's over." Sonic said and appeared and Elise ran to her side.

Eggman slowly turned around in half-astonishment, half-fury at seeing Sonic somehow got on the Egg Carrier to save the princess from the ship's inevitable destruction.

"Sonic!" Elise said.

"This ship is about to crash. Too bad, Buttnik." Sonic said and Eggman threw a tantrum and growled in frustration, stomping his foot at the end of it.

"I'm not finished yet!" he said and she threw her arms out and stood in front of Elise, refusing to let him get near her again and risk her being killed in the Egg Carrier's inevitable crash.

Sure enough Sonic was carrying Elise in her arms as she ran to escape from the ship as alarms continued blaring to order all hands to abandon the doomed vessel. Outside, the front section of the Egg Carrier exploded into flames and broke off.

"Sonic!" Elise said and pointed to burning debris soaring through the air as the Egg Carrier continued falling apart.

"Aren't you worried?" Sonic asked.

""If you have time to worry, then run," right?"

The front section of the Egg Carrier exploded in a huge fireball before it even hit the ocean surface below, sending smaller fragments shooting off in all directions like missiles. Sonic took a running start, leapt off, and jumped from one piece of debris of the Egg Carrier to another. She landed on the wing to jump to a cliff and attempted jumping high into the air, only for them to start falling when gravity took over before reaching the top of the cliff. A large piece of debris of the Egg Carrier's engine collided into the cliff face below and its explosion launched Sonic and Elise up to solid ground as they rolled along the ground before coming to a rest after several tumbles. Sonic recovered with a groan before checking Elise, who rolled over onto her back. Elise lied on the ground while Sonic walked over to her and lend her hand for her to get up. Then they began laughing.

"Nice smile!" Sonic said and Elise turned to look over at the horizon.

Can so much hope and love endure

Meanwhile Silver and Blaze had arrived back at the future at the volcano. Silver was holding both Chaos Emeralds in each hand.

"I know how to save our world, now. We don't have to change the past. I'm sure of it." Silver said.

"So you have a plan?" Blaze asked and he looked at her and nodded. "Well, let's hurry. I sense his flames." she said the walked and looked around, then looked at him.

They looked at each other and knew what to do, then walked into Flame Core together.

Soon they were running right up to confront Iblis, who emerged from the flames for one final fight.

"C'mon, Iblis! This time I'll finally stop you!" Silver said and Iblis gave out a roar and approached to attack them.

After the battle, the flame pillar rose up, and bits of magma fell onto the ground. Iblis became a ball of flame again.

"Chaos Emeralds, lend me your power! Eternal Sun! The Living Flame that has been entrusted to the royal family! Fall into slumber with my soul, Iblis! You cursed Flames of Disaster!" Silver said holding both Chaos Emeralds.

Both emeralds glow up, and Silver let out a yell, as Iblis' flames were absorbed into both emeralds at once, which try to inject them as beams of light into Silver. However, the beams hurt him rather than accept him, and light glowed on his chest.

"No! Why won't it accept me as the vessel?" he said and tried using his strength to seal Iblis in his body, but felt pain each time so looked at her. "Blaze!"

"I'll take Iblis." Blaze said and he looked at her in shock. "Don't worry. My soul is already alit with flames. I will be accepted." she said and took the emeralds from him and used their power between him and Iblis.

The emeralds glowed up as Silver knelt down, and Iblis was absorbed into both emeralds at once. Flames swirled around her as her chest glowed up in light.

"Come on, make it quick. Use your Chaos Control... to stop time. Then... seal us into a different dimension." she said.

"No! I can't do that to you!" Silver said in shock.

Blaze looked at him.

"Didn't we already go through this? We agreed to save the world at any price!"

Silver was stunned again, then tried to use Chaos Control, but couldn't do it.

"I can't! I wouldn't know what to do without you! You've fought alongside me to save the world... You're my friend... Right?" he said saddened.

"You're still so naive. But..."" she said disappointed then turned to face him. "I... I've always liked that about you." she said and held out both emeralds, then closed her eyes and focused her thoughts, then used their power of Chaos Control.

A dark shield appeared around her, and she dropped both emeralds as she and Iblis faded into the void.

"Blaze!" Silver said and chased the vanishing Blaze and stopped at she floats up and waved goodbye.

"Good luck, Silver." she said then floated upward and glowed up with Iblis as Silver looked up; she floated up to the clouds, and exploded in light.

Rays of light descend upon Silver, and Crisis City brightened up, quenching the lava and the flames altogether. He looked up in the sky, and the sun appeared in the now-clear sky above where Blaze had been. He stood next to the two emeralds as he mourned her loss next to the lava pool.

At Dusty Desert Shadow, Rouge and Omega were standing in the desert.

"Mephiles appears to have headed for those ruins. He's probably looking for the Chaos Emerald that's supposed to be there." Rouge said.

"There's no doubt in my mind. his movement shows he's seeking any Chaos Emerald he can find. Supposedly, he needs one in order to join with Iblis again." Shadow said.

"I will seal him before that." Omega said and they headed towards the ruins.

Later Shadow, Rouge and Omega stopped on a platform.

"Mephiles!" Shadow said.

Mephiles was holding the yellow Chaos Emerald.

"I was expecting you sooner. As you must know, you're already too late. But there's still time for you to change your mind. Join me, Shadow. Let us teach this world a lesson and rewrite the future."

"Don't try to deceive me."

"What?"

"You have no desire for revenge. You only crave destruction. Your only lust is to fuel Iblis until there is nothing left of time itself."

"It's a pity, Shadow The Hedgehog." Mephiles said and levitated the yellow Chaos Emerald into the air. "Truly a shame that you wish to go against me!"

Shadow, Rouge and Omega were pushed back by an invisible force and the entire platform's surface turned dark.

Mephiles melted into a puddle and Shadow tried to seal him in the Scepter of Darkness. However, the scepter exploded in a bright light when he entered it.

"It's destroyed!" Rouge said and Mephiles swirled into a solid figure in the air.

"The "I" of now absorbed your power through your shadow in the past. What may have worked 10 years ago, no longer does!" he said and released shock waves that knocks Shadow, Rouge and Omega down briefly before using the green and yellow Chaos Emerald to make hundreds of copies of himself. "You must realize now that you cannot hope to stop me with your limited power."

"So you say..." Shadow said.

"It's futile. The world will betray you. Why fight at all? Why risk your life for those who will persecute you later?"

Shadow removed his limiters.

"If the world chooses to become my enemy, I will fight like I always have!" he said.

The Mephiles copies swarmed them but Shadow unleashed a large yellow aura, allowing them to plow through the clones.

Later he was in a forest and grabbed the purple Chaos Emerald floating in front of him as the background turns black. Then he slowly looked away.

Meanwhile Sonic and Elise were walking through the Forest when they were blinded by the light from the purple Chaos Emerald. Mephiles appeared behind them and impaled Sonic in the back with an energy beam. Elise screamed. Mephiles withdrawer his energy beam and Sonic fell to the ground, dead.

"Sonic! Sonic!" Elise said and shook her while Mephiles laughed with maniacal and sinister delight. "Sonic?" she said and rolled her over.

Then Elise was a seven-year-old holding the blue Chaos Emerald.

"Yes, Elise... Don't cry, no matter what happens." Duke said.

"Oh... no." Elise said and she was back to normal time. "Nooooooooo!" she said and cried and Iblis burst out from her.

"Finally, the seal is broken! At long last, I'll be able to join with you! Iblis! Now, Chaos Emerald! It's time for the final curtain call!" Mephiles said and laughed.

Then he levitated the purple Chaos Emerald into the air.

At Dusty Desert Shadow, Rouge and Omega were finished fighting the Mephiles clones. Shadow was putting back his limiters and about to get the yellow and green Chaos Emerald on the ground when they suddenly emitted a powerful white light, blinding them all.

Meanwhile Mephiles was flying the air with the seven Chaos Emeralds supplying him with power. Iblis' flames enveloped him and they remerged, re-creating Solaris. In Castle Town, Tails, Knuckles and Amy were walking through the populated streets when suddenly the white light from Solaris envelops Soleanna and the surrounding areas.

Solaris shined a bright light in the black void and Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Silver, Shadow, Rouge, Omega and Eggman found themselves on a floating fragment of Soleanna.

"What is this?" Tails said.

"Where are we? What's going on?" Amy said.

"Is this because of that light?" Knuckles said.

'Where's Sonic?' he thought.

"The Chaos Emerald has disappeared..." Silver said.

"Silver?" Amy said.

"What are doing here? This is all so confusing..."

"It's all because of Solaris." Rouge said.

"It seems we were all caught by the spatial distortion. Iblis' seal has been broken. Due to Mephiles manipulation." Eggman said.

Then they saw Elise cradling Sonic nearby.

"Sonic?" Amy said.

"No... You don't think..." Tails said.

"Sonic!" Knuckles said fighting tears.

'No.' he thought while Amy collapsed and began crying while everyone else was emotionally struck by Sonic's death.

"Mephiles played us all for fools! His plan all along was to cause the Princess to be consumed with despair that she'd cry." Eggman said.

"So that's why he wanted me to kill Sonic before..." Silver said.

Shadow turned away while closing his eyes and crossing his arms.

I was innocent and certain

Meanwhile, Solaris began giving off strange, loud sounds.

"Solaris!" Silver said.

"This creature will consume all existing timelines. And time itself will collapse and disappear into nothingness." Eggman said.

"The instability of time caused this time-space rift." Shadow said.

"It won't remain for much longer."

"We've no time to waste. We've got to defeat it now!" Knuckles said.

"No, it is a transcendent life form that exists in the past, present and future. Defeating it here, now, would do nothing."

"No, I won't give up. There has to be a way. If you say it exists in the past, present and future, I'll destroy them all at once!" Silver said.

"Certainly, it might have been possible, if she was still alive." Shadow said.

"Sonic! Sonic!" Amy said.

Now I'm wiser but unsure

While Amy cried and everyone else mourned, a blue wind blew by which Elise felt.

"Sonic..." she said.

"What's the matter?" Silver said.

"I feel... Sonic's presence in the wind. I don't think she's dead yet! I'm sure of it. It's not too late!"

I can't go back into my childhood

Shadow was shocked but could tell something was different about her.

"Of course! Let's call him back with power of the Chaos Emeralds! Focus your thoughts on using its power to perform this miracle..." he said. "You can do it, Princess!" he said and walked over to her.

"I can?"

"You were the vessel that was used to seal Iblis. You should be able to use the gems' power to rescue Sonic's soul!"

"I'll...Do it!" she said and nodded.

"Solaris flung the Chaos Emeralds to the distant corners of this distorted world." Eggman said and adjusted his glasses into a radar.

"To collect them all in time, we'll have to split up!" Tails said.

"I'll go, too! Because it's for Sonic! So Elise... Watch over her!" Amy said.

All those precious days...

Then Shadow, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Silver, Rouge and Omega left in separate directions, leaving Elise with Sonic.

One that my father made secure

When they found them all they went back to Elise and Sonic lied lifelessly in the center with the seven Chaos Emeralds surrounding her. Shadow, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Silver, Rouge, Omega and Eggman stood on the sidelines while Elise prayed to the Chaos Emeralds.

"Oh Chaos Emeralds, gems of miracles. Please heed my call." she said. "I wish to save this world. I wish to cleanse my father's sin. And, I wish to talk to Sonic... once again!" she said and the Chaos Emeralds started glowing brighter. "You have given me so many things. Now it is my time to return the favor. I care not what happens to me. But please heed my voice. Sonic, come back! To me... To us!" she said and the Chaos Emeralds and still lifeless Sonic started levitating into the air.

Then she kissed her and a bright light whited out the screen. When the light died down, Sonic stood before everyone, revived as Super Sonic. Elise fell into Sonic's arms from exhaustion.

"Thank you, Elise." Super Sonic said.

Everyone was happy at her return. After getting Elise back up, past Super Sonic turned to Shadow and Silver and transformed them into Super Shadow and Super Silver. The trio of super transformed then flew up to combat Solaris.

"We got this guys, we're some of the strongest people here. It's three against one." future Super Sonic said.

They nodded and started.

'Please be careful.' Knuckles thought.

...couldn't last

Super Shadow, Super Silver and Super Sonic tried to go through it.

I can feel a change in me

Finally they were done.

I'm stronger now but still not free

Then Solaris' light orb was giving off bursts of light and everyone was celebrating their victory. As a bright light enveloped everything, a white flame formed in a black void.

Days in the sun

Sonic and Elise were floating in a black void.

"Did you destroy it?" Elise asked and a white light appeared.

"...No. That is the true Solaris." Sonic said and they moved into the light.

Then there was a flashback where a young Elise and the Duke of Soleanna watched Solaris' original form, a small white flame, in its casing.

"Look, Elise. This is Solaris, the flame of hope." the duke said.

"It's so beautiful..." Elise said.

"When the flame has grown large enough, our world will change. Solaris will allow us to control time and move through history. People will be able to rectify past mistakes and avoid bitter fate."

"Will we be able to see momma?"

"Yes, Elise. We'll both be able to see your mother once again." the duke said and they left Solaris.

Will return, we must believe

Then it came back to the present where the present Elise and Sonic were approaching Solaris' casing.

"This is where everything began. Who knew such a tiny flame could bring such devastation?" Elise said and took out Solaris and its candleholder. "If we put out this flame, Solaris will never exist, And then we'll never have to worry about the Flames of Disaster, right? But our encounter... You and I will never meet. It will never have happened. I... To tell the truth, I don't care what happens to the world!" she said and cried.

"Elise. Just smile." Sonic said.

Elise smiled and Sonic assured all will be fine. Elise softly blew out Solaris.

As lovers do

Later in the Castle Town the Festival of the Sun was unfolding and Elise was in her boat waving to the audience. As Sonic came running, she noticed Elise and ran by so fast that she created a wind making Elise lose one of the feathers in her hair. Elise stood in awe after feeling the wind.

"Miss Elise?" Lady-in-waiting said.

"It felt like... like someone was calling me." Elise said.

"I'm sure. It's just the wind."

"Of course. But it felt so familiar somehow..." Elise said and continued the festival while Sonic watched from a rooftop.

As Elise's feather flew into the sky, Sonic watched it while smiling fondly.

That days in the sun will come shining through
