Chapter 34

They met at the coordinates and were given their instructions. Kara and J'onn would be flying in the skies above the vehicles, using the clouds as cover. Nyssa would be riding in the passenger seat of the transport vehicle, while Alex and Kate would be in the back – "guarding" the "prisoner". Lyla had teams of ARGUS agents surrounding the convoy in unmarked vehicles. The leader of ARGUS hoped that it looked like the transport vehicle was being unescorted.

"What if this doesn't work?" The question seemed odd coming from the woman dressed in a bat suit. If nothing else, it took confidence to wear the suit and the question was less than confident.

"I reviewed the case file on the flight out here. Lyla put out her fake news feelers in the underground networks ARGUS has access to. This will work," Alex tried to reassure her. She'd donned her Sentinel gear and Kate liked the look.

"How do we know that Natasha really cares that much about Tatiana? If Natasha is like Tatiana… well it's hard for sociopaths to actually care," Kate pointed out.

"Not wrong about that, but I really hope that I don't end up dead," the ARGUS agent, Samantha Mattingly, spoke up. It was a valid concern since she was playing the fake Tatiana. If Natasha successfully grabbed Samantha, she wouldn't hesitate to kill her, once she found out it wasn't who she was expecting.

"You've got Batwoman and Sentinel watching your back," Alex smiled at her, putting a hand on her shoulder. The ARGUS agent nodded and hoped that their trap worked.

From the front seat, Nyssa checked in on the comms with Kara and J'onn. Both reported that they didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Internally, everyone was nervous, hoping that the plan would work. The radio crackled to life inside the transport van.

"This is Twenty Charlie," it was the car that was off to the left of the transport.

"Go ahead Twenty Charlie," Nyssa used the radio so the driver could stay focused on the road.

"I've got a car about four car lengths behind me. They look like they're trying to follow us but doing a bad job of hiding," the agent radioed back.

"Could be a spotter vehicle to distract from the actual followers. Don't react but take the next right. We'll see if they follow you or move up closer to us," Nyssa said.

"Ten-four," Twenty Charlie did as they were told.

"Thirty Charlie here. Car did not turn after Twenty Charlie and moved up," the word came in from the car that had been travelling in the lane next to the transport vehicle.

"Eyes in the sky, double check other vehicles surrounding us," Nyssa went to the comms. Kara used her X-ray vision to look at the cars around the transport. It wasn't high volume traffic, but it was busy enough to hide the ARGUS unmarked vehicles.

"New vehicle has joined the party, directly behind transport, and they mean business. Military style weapons across their laps," Kara used the comms.

"We're about to have visitors Back Seat. You ready?" Nyssa switched comms channel to the three in the back of the transport.

"I've got a motorcycle coming up fast on my side," the driver, ARGUS Agent Brian Park, said. He could see the vehicle in his sideview mirror.

"Back Seat, prepare for possible explosive entry," Nyssa warned them before she heard the sirens of a police car. She wasn't aware that GCPD or the Crows would be chipping in to help.

"Thirty Charlie, what the hell is going on out there?" Nyssa wanted to know.

"Forty Charlie here. We've got a GCPD cruiser chasing the motorcycle. Unclear what for," that was the car on the driver's side of the transport.

"Things are about to go sideways. If that cop is trying to make a traffic stop, it could be ruining our element of surprise," Nyssa told them.

"Worse, could be in on it," Forty Charlie responded. Nyssa grimaced.

"We have to let the cop car and the motorcycle pass. We react and our cover is blown," Kate spoke up from the back of the vehicle.

"Agreed. Switching channels," Nyssa quickly relayed the information to their two flying companions before picking up the radio and telling the follow cars. The cop car sped by as the motorcycle picked up speed, blowing through the red light about five hundred feet in front of them. Agent Park pulled the vehicle to a stop so as to not run the light.

"We good?" He asked. That was the last moment before an explosion from below flung the transport vehicle into the air and onto its side.
