Arc 1: An S-Class Discovery!

Chapter 1: The Felipe Family

Year: X752. 32 years till Canon begins

No POV:

Cadewell Felipe was a little boy born in the year X743, with short jet black hair, emerald green eyes and a birthmark shaped like a lightning bolt, which came down just under his left eye sitting next to his nose. His black hair was inherited from his Mother and his eyes from his Father. Personality wise he had gained most of his energetic spirit from his Father, who had joined a guild when he was only 12. He also loved to read, something he and his Mother both shared.

Right now he was using that energetic spirit to run back home after spending a nice sunny day in the back garden of the Manor they stayed in. The Manor in question was a huge 3 floored house, made out of smooth stone bricks.

It included a grand hall, grand bathroom, grand bedroom, a library, dining room – not to mention all the other various rooms beside those ones. It resided on the vast hills just south of Magnolia town in which they stayed. The back garden was a huge area with its own little small forest with oak trees and several small ponds in which the local ducks reside in. A large stone wall marks the end of the garden, beyond that lies the many fields that stretch across Fiore.

The Manor was one of the first buildings built when the town of Magnolia was first constructed with the Felipe family being the owners. When the Dark Guild, Blue Skull was defeated in the year X686, two wizard brothers known as Malvel Nickolas and Velmal Nickolas from the now destroyed guild opted to serve the Felipe family to atone.

They were accepted, but in the year X716 Velmal would disappear, with Malvel dying due to a heart attack two years later, with his powerful magic tome being lost. A stone plaque near the path leading up to the manor states all of this deep and rich history in great detail.

As Cade was running back to the back door of the manor he failed to notice in the shade that there was a rather large pit of mud just waiting for a young boy to run and trip over a conveniently placed stone wedged in the grass landing him face first straight in the mud. As Cade barely crawled his way up and out of the mud and back up onto his own two feat, he suddenly realised that the mud had gotten into his hair and shoes.

Cadewell POV:

'Mama's gonna freak out over this' I contemplated with a sigh, as I slowly trudged my way to the back door. "Mama! Papa! I fell in the mud outside again!" I yelled, walking in a very stiff and rigid manor and into the house through the back door.

"Goodness me! I would have thought that the heatwave from the past two days would have dried up all that mud in the garden" Said a young women quickly standing up from her chair ahead of me and rushing over to me. A shame… she had only just gone and bought those clothes for my birthday party coming up.

Of course they just had to get ruined mere days before the big day. "You didn't trip over anything in the garden and hurt yourself while you were outside did you?" She asked with concern now wiping the mud off my face with a dish towel she had picked up off the counter while running over.

June Felipe, my mother, was a young women in her mid 30's with long black hair, navy blue eyes and a calm and caring personality for anyone who she thinks she can help. She was currently wearing a nice red shirt, with blue shorts and a set of sandals.

She said had hoped to go outside and read her new book after seeing my dad off, but that may not be possible now. Her book would have to wait another day considering that tomorrow was to rain and she always wanted to read it outside.

"No just the mud, but I would have rather fell over and hurt myself rather than be covered in mud" I replied with a tint of shame in my voice not looking my mother in the eye. "Where is Papa?" I curiously looked around hoping to see my Father emerge from one of the hallways and use his magic to get rid of the mud.

"Oh, your Father is at the guild today. I was hoping to take you round to see him before he went off on another job, but that may not be possible now with you now that the way that you are. You young man, need a nice warm bath to clear all that mud right off you" My mother concluded, wiping off the remaining mud off my face.

"Take off your shoes and socks and I'll clean your feat. Then I'll run a bath for you." When she finished saying that, I took off my shoes and socks and dumped them in the washing basket. Not long after, we both went upstairs and she began to run a hot bath in the grand bathroom.

The grand bathroom in the manor, was one of the biggest rooms in the house. It had smooth tiled marble as the floor, with a white stone wall. There was a huge grand bath in the centre of the room, which separated this bathroom from the many others in the manor.

"So what job is Papa doing?" I wondered with mild curiosity as I walked over to the bath. Father worked a guild known as Fairy Tale, a place where other magic users like him would get together and help others. Though I actually hadn't been into the guild before.

When I asked my father if I could go in to see what it is like, he swiftly dismissed that idea saying that it wouldn't be safe for me in there, and that I was most likely bound to get hurt by a stray spell. After that, I'd been keeping my distance from the building fearing that I would be blasted back by a fireball coming my way. Not to mention I didn't have magic… Or at least right now I don't have any.

From what I had read in the towns public library and heard from my father, most mages discover their magic before the age of 10, as at at that point the ethernano inside an individual will develop and grow allowing them to use magic. However I was nine years old and still hadn't discovered my magic yet.

Not to mention that around only 10% of people in the world will be able to use magic… I was beginning to lose all hope at the idea of potentially joining father at Fairy Tale, helping people who needed it. Of course I could simply learn magic, but it wouldn't be the same as awakening the Ethernano within me.

However I was still holding onto to a slither of hope that my magic would awaken on or before my 10th birthday which was in just a few days time.

My Father in question, Cobalt Felipe an S-Class Wizard uses a special kind of water magic which is able to suck out fluids from any form of life that has water inside of it (though it does not work on actual living creatures)

I didn't remember much about the magic itself, but he had shown me a quick demonstration a few times out in the fields away from Magnolia. This was mainly because my mother was really angry the first time (and ultimately last time) he used the magic on the flowers in the back garden.

Father then quickly ran to the guild to get a job that took him to the nearest train station which would then take him out of town to avoid getting a scolding.

"There!" Mother said snapping me out of my thoughts as I then turned and looked and looked at the bath that had been set for me. To put it simply mother had gone all out for me, the actual grand bath itself in question was really big.

It could hold about 4 fully grown adults and around 8 children my age. What really surprised me was the amount of bubbles in the bath, towering over me making me look like an ant in comparison. I had always loved playing with them while taking a bath, blowing them at mother and father while they tried to wash my hair, but father would always uses his magic to splash me with some water back.

"So will that do?" My mother asked looking at me with a smile on her face.

"Yes! Thank you Mama!" I answered with a big smile.

"Well then in you go. I do need to wash that mud out of your hair now. That's not mentioning the fact that it's probably gone all the way up your finger and toe nails." She muttered with a tint of concern. "If we don't wash it off now it may never wash away and you wouldn't want dirty finger and toe nails now would you?" She stated as she tilted her head to the left a little.

She didn't need a response from me, as I quickly made moves to undress myself as she quickly turned away from her me clearly not expecting me to undress that fast. "Honestly. Have I ever said how impatient you can be sometimes?" She grumbled at me. "Don't worry about the temperature of the water it should be fine for you!"

I then climbed into the bath and surrounded myself with a bunch of bubbles. "Ok that's me ready!"

"Good. Now then, let me get that mud out of your hair then you can relax in there for a few hours ok?" She added.

"Sounds good to me." I said with a smile on my face. As she started to scrub my hair and wash it with shampoo, I brought up a question that I had been wondering for quite a while now. "Mama? Do you think I'll get my magic before or on the day I turn 10?"

My mother simply sighed deeply.

"I am not sure Cade, your father said he awakened his magic when he was 9. After that he practiced it for a few years then joined Fairy Tale. You are aware that you may not be born with a magic inside of you right? I just don't want you to be disappointed if you don't develop your magic before then."

"Yeah… I've heard." I mumbled.

"There have been cases of children born to parents that are both mages and not developing magic power you know. In any case I don't think you should worry yet. It might choose to surprise you on your birthday." She assured me with hope, after finally getting the rest of that mud out of my hair. "Now then I take it you can wash yourself? I have to see your Father off at the station."

"Yes Mama. Oh! Tell Papa I said good luck for his job and that I love him." I quickly added at the end. If I couldn't see my father off then I could at least deliver a message of good luck.

"Of course I will. I will see you in an hour or two, don't stay in their too long ok? I wouldn't want to see you all pruned when I come back." She said smiling as she turned away from me and made her way out of the room.

(1 hour later)

June POV:

As I disembarked the carriage I had hailed to get to the station I quickly looked around the station to try and find my husband. The station was jam packed with tourists looking to visit Magnolia, Wizards going on job requests, as well as friends and family here to visit each other.

Apparently this was the last train out of Magnolia Station today which definitely explained why it was so busy, I could only hope Cobalt will still be here, he only took the job a few hours ago before coming back to the house to inform me. I was a little sceptical about Cobalt going on an S-Class quest only a few days before our son's 10th birthday.

I had learned the hard way that S-Class quests are not quests that you can just do in a day and then just come home in time for dinner. No, these quests could take days to complete and that's not including the journey to get there and back again. I had to be reminded by Fairy Tales Guild Master that these quests can take days to complete, as I had spent the first few days when Cobalt went on his first quest scared that he had died.

Now of course the reward of a few million jewels was very nice, but it did mean that Cobalt wasn't able to spend as much time with our son as he wanted. That's mainly because the manor we stayed in had quite the large rent: 500,000 jewels a month, and that's not including things like food or clothes.

As I was looking around I heard the loudspeaker in the station ding as it was about to deliver a message.

The final train today will depart in 10 minutes time please be ready to give way to other people leaving the train before entering it yourself. Thank you for your patience.

"Excuse me." I said to a train conductor who had just finished directing an elderly couple. "Have you seen a Wizard from Fairy Tale? He has green eyes, blonde hair and he has the Fairy Tale guild mark on his wrist. He should just be passing through here and getting on the last train today."

"Hmm?" The conductor says turning round to see me directly. "A Fairy Tale Wizard… Ah yes! I saw one just a few minutes ago that matches your description. He asked me where the bathroom was, he should just be coming out now." The conductor says happily.

Just then a blonde haired, emerald green eyed who looked like he was in his 30's emerged from a corridor just ahead of where me and the conductor were talking. He had a brown cloak which covered his entire chest and came down to his knees, a rucksack slung over his shoulders as well as some grey boots which seemed good for travelling. This man was my husband Cobalt Felipe, an S-Class Wizard in the Fairy Tale Guild and a caring man and father to our son.

He looked around the station to see if the train had arrived yet, and noticed me.

"June?" Cobalt said looking a little surprised to see me. Cobalt quickly hurried over to me with a smile on his face. "What are you doing here?" He asked with both surprise and happiness in his voice as he made his way over to me.

"I came to see you off of course" I answered, hugging him as I reached him before then kissing him. "What sort of wife would I be if I chose not to see my S-Class husband away for another job?" I said rolling her eyes at him.

"You'd be an S-Class wife that's for sure! You know you didn't need to see me off. I already said goodbye to you and Cadewell back at the manor before I made my way here." He commented chuckling. "I mean I appreciate it, but I think that Cade wo-"

"Wait… Where's Cade?" Cobalt looked around the station. "Did you leave him at the house?" He wondered, with a surprised and curious tone in his voice. "You know that I don't like him running around there all by himself at the age he is. Knowing him, he would probably climb up a tree in the garden and fall and sprain his ankle… or worse break his leg!" He stated giving me a concerned look.

"Oh I don't think he will be going out into the garden for the rest of the day. He ended up tripping and falling into some mud in the garden. Currently he is taking a bath in the grand bathroom and probably playing with the bubbles." I assured him in my usual soothing voice. "By the time I get back I'm sure he will still be in there." Continuing on from what I said hoping to calm my husband down.

"I suppose… By the way I forgot to ask yesterday, were you able to get a birthday gift for him when you went into town yesterday? Don't worry I'll get him my gift when I pass by Crocus on the way." My husband asked with interest.

"Yes you don't need to worry, I brought him that board game he's kept eying when we go into town together. I've hid it in the basement. Speaking of which, exactly what are you getting him dear?" I replied back to him. My husband had been hyping up our sons 10 birthday for quite some time now and that had gotten me curious about what his gift would actually be.

Cobalt simply smirked back at me "Well as you know Cadewell has been wanting to be a Wizard and join Fairy Tale for some time now and I think I found the perfect gift to help him with that."

"Oh? Well what is it then?" I thought with clear curiosity after saying that. Was it perhaps a gift to instantly develop ethernano in a person? Or… it could be one of those new lacrima implants that have been getting quite popular recently. Apparently they could massively increase the individuals magic power and potential as well possibly giving them a new magic altogether.

The main issue was that it could leave lasting physical implications on the person who implanted in themselves ranging from a simple scar across your face… to disabling your arm altogether. The chances of getting a perfect lacrima implant with no negative physical downsides was very hard as they were recently created. But I quickly dismissed this idea. My husband wouldn't even consider getting our son a gift that could potentially hurt him in any way.

Cobalt smiled at me. "I finally found the Key to unlocking that ancient spell book!"

"Wait… As in the key that could translate… THAT?" My jaw dropping in utter bewilderment at the idea of THAT finally being unlocked after years.

"Oh yes!" Cobalt replied his smile growing even bigger. "That would be the perfect gift for him now wouldn't it?"

"B-But how?! I thought they were all lost years ago. Well that's we were led to believe of course…" I said ignoring my husband, still in thought at wondering how this was possible.

I then gave Cobalt a serious look. "You are sure about this? I mean… We both know who previously used that book. I wouldn't want the Magic Council on our doorstep after we open it up." I questioned with scepticism.

"Didn't we already have this conversation?" Cobalt said sighing. "Magic is magic. It doesn't matter what it is. What matters is who uses it. Besides Master gave his approval after I suggested the idea to him." He argued.

"Alright, alright!" I held up my hands, not wanting to get into an argument with my husband right before he goes on a quest. "How'd you find it anyway?"

"The royal museum in Crocus has it. The job I'm doing will involve me recovering some stolen goods from the place. Apparently some dark guild broke in and stole a whole bunch of things all from different sections." My husband stated

"The job itself is S-Class as some of the stuff stolen is pretty deadly but I should be able to handle it as long as I'm carful. Apparently the man who owns the place says if everything is returned then he will allow the Wizard who helped him to take one item free of charge and I plan on taking that spell book Translating Key! I saw it advertised in the latest Sorcerer Weekly 'top 10 places you wish you could visit'." He finished saying.

"I see… Well please be careful! I wouldn't want you hurt and end up delaying your return back here. Cade's birthday is in 6 days after all." I sternly told him, now realising that this mission could be tricky even for my husband.

"Come on who do you think I am? I ain't some S-Class rookie." Cobalt responded while laughing after.

Attention the final train for toady is about to depart please make sure you are at least a few feat away from the edge of the platform. Thank you.

"Ah crap!" Cobalt suddenly started panicking "Look I gotta go I'll see you on Cade birthday I'll definitely be back by then! Love you honey!" Cobalt finished speaking and quickly kissed me goodbye before running to the train.

I ran up close to the edge of the train. "By the way Cade says he loves you and wishes you good luck on the quest!" I yelled at him as he got on the train just in the nick of time.

"Tell him I love him as well and I look forward to translating that tome with him!" Cobalt shouted as the train finally left Magnolia.

Cobalt POV:

As I made my way through the train cartridges to find an empty seat as the train was packed with tourists. I finally got a seat on the train after going through 3 different cartridges. I sat back and began to imagine what life with my son would be like when I returned in 6 days time. The birthday party would be held at the manor in which family across Fiore would come and visit him as they usually do. I'd get to see Jack again for the first time in a whole year - hopefully he had a few good stories to tell everyone.

I did chose to invite Makarov, both to meet Cade for the first time as he would presumably be joining the guild after his birthday, and to hopefully take a stab at translating that tomb. I figure I'll need all the help I can get when trying to get it translated and who better to ask than a Wizard Saint? Makarov did also say he would like to bring another guild member around Cadewell's age so they could meet and get to know each other before joining.

As I was sitting back in my chair, I began to plan ahead for when I would eventually arrive at Crocus.

It took 2 days to get to Crocus via the train and 2 days to get back the same way, which only left two days to locate the dark guild and find those stolen goods. This is if I wished to be back by my sons birthday of course.

First I would head to the museum first and gain info on my foes. Thankfully the translator was not stolen, something that I made sure to confirm with the museum owner when taking the quest. It'd just be my luck if the gift I planned on getting for my son was actually stolen with the other items.

Not much information was known about the dark guild that stole the items from the museum. Witnesses that saw them fleeing couldn't see a guild mark on them as their skin was covered head to toe with dark clothing. They were seen however fleeing towards the mountains east of the kingdom.

I then took the job request out from my cloaks pocket and examined it again.

S-Class

Reward 4,750,000 jewel

A dark Guild of which we were unable to identify has stolen 37 different items throughout different exhibits in our museum. Many of these items are dangerous and are not to be taken lightly as they could prove to strengthen the criminals. Please report to Crocus Royal Museum and see Mr Yakone for details. For information of what was stolen please refer to the back of this paper for said information.

I then flipped the paper over to take another look at what was stolen. Apparently the man who wrote the request labelled the items in order of how dangerous they could be in the wrong hands.

Items stolen

3 Dragon Slayer Lacrima

Celestial Zodiac Key

Sword of Sealing

Torch of Xerno

Gauntlets of Greatness (each gauntlet counts as one item)

12 Ancient Healing Lacrima

Aisl Anom

10 Scrolls of Summoning

3 Dragon Scales

3 ancient books

I whistled lightly when looking at them again, I could clearly see why this mission was deemed S-Class as any of the top 3 items could easily make even some the weakest Wizards an issue to deal with.

I had heard rumours about dragon slaying magic, as sightings of it were quite rare. Being incredibly powerful, destructive and giving the user the ability to eat the element that corresponds with their type of magic. As far as I was aware no guild whether they be light or dark has a Wizard who can use dragon slaying magic.

Then there was the Zodiac Key. Celestial Wizards are quite rare but not nearly as rare as dragon slayers. I had gotten into a fight with a Zodiac Wizard a few years back in which I fought against a few of the Zodiac's. The fight was pretty tough for me, as I had never fought any spirits before. It didn't help that the wizard could summon 2 spirits at a time, which was a hard task to deal with. I was able to pull out a win in the end, but it wasn't easy. In conclusion I learned not to underestimate Zodiac Keys. The one the museum had was apparently one of the stronger spirits out of the 12.

I had heard that the Sword of Sealing was able to seal away an individual's magic power at the cost of actually powering the sword with your own magic power. A deadly weapon in the right hands especially those who would fight in mass groups. Apparently it required a lot of magic power to charge it up, so it did have the risk of draining all your magic if you aren't careful with it.

The Torch of Xerno was apparently an ancient special cannon which had the ability to shoot out scalding hot flames forever as long as you linked it up with your own magic power. According to the history books out all of the hundreds of people who have faced the flames head on only 3 have survived… and worst of all they were fire mages. Thankfully it came at the downside of using your own magic power to use it and as the flames are that deadly, the cost of ethernao to run the thing is incredibly high.

The Gauntlets of Greatness are apparently able to grant the user immense physical strength, it doesn't help that the Gauntlets are able to link up with the users mind meaning you aren't just able to get up close and pull them off. No, no, no instead I'd have to defeat the person that is wearing them.

The 12 Ancient Healing Lacrima are able to increase the time it takes for any physical injuries to heal by 150% and that's per individual Lacrima. The last thing you need is to fight your way through a horde of enemies and find out one hour later that they are fully healed up and ready for round two.

The Aisl Anom is a special bag designed like a old ladies handbag, in which it is estimated to have been enchanted by an evil Mage hundreds of years ago, so that the bag would be able to hold any item of the carriers choice. This obviously is a major issue you would face as the wizard who has this can hold any item of their choice that ranges from Lacrima bomb to distress beacon.

The 10 summoning scrolls are able to summon any random creature from the Underworld. Now, I don't know about you but I'd personally like to avoid getting into a fight with any Underworld monsters. There has been no confirmed sightings about seeing a monster from the Underworld, but the name of the place the creatures come from practically speaks for itself abkut how bad they must be. One positive is that the text you need to read to summon the creatures can be quite long, coming in at around a whole 2 minutes to properly read.

The Dragon Scales could be used to create dragon armour which would be troubling, as from what I remember reading as a kid; dragons were able to be highly resistant to magic attacks. It would be concerning if a dark guild were able to make armour for many of their elite Wizards.

Finally there was the 3 ancient books… Yeah it was hard to see why anybody would want to steal these things. I was going to ask some questions about why anyone would want to steal some old dirty books. The only strange thing was that the museum staff were unable to open the books for some weird reason.

Attention. We have now arrived at Hargeon Town. Please mind the gap while existing. The next stop is Oak Town.

'Huh guess I was zoning out for longer than I thought' I thought, as the train began to slowly move away again. It would only be a few more stops until I reached Crocus, then I would head straight for the Museum, rent a hotel room for the night and head off.

It wouldn't be long now I thought, I was imaging the moment when I would arrive back to the manor and be tackled by Cade's hug and get spend time with him. I relaxed back and viewed the fields outside as the train made its way to Crocus.

Hello! I hope you all enjoyed reading my first Fan-fiction. This is my first time writing Fanfiction and anything FT related so forgive me if I make obvious mistakes. Just saying, this will be a VERY SLOW Fanfic, it's gonna take ages till we get to Canon FT. Just warning you now in case you dislike slow stories. I will however edit this chapter with an announcement of when Canon does in fact begin.

I mainly chose this time period as I feel there is a lot of unknown history in the Fairy Tale Guild about some of the older characters (which I will not say cause spoilers)

Anyway like i said this will be a LONG Fanfic so for those who want to stick around… prepare yourself. It's gonna be a crazy ride for the young little Cadewell Philipe.
