I'm at the point now where I'm not doing things in order anymore. The only trait of mine more annoying/stronger than my OCD is my anxiety. I've had these next two written awhile, I was just trying to save them until the end. Then I decided "What the heck? They're done now; I'll post them."
Chapter 60: April Fool's Day
April Fool's Day… the greatest day of the year! Sure I love Arnold, but come on! Who wouldn't take the opportunity to prank the heck out of someone when they had it?
Of course I'm the only one in my family who feels that way, so I didn't bother wasting my time with any pranks on them. All it would lead to was Bob telling me to stay out of his way, and Ollllga… using it as an opportunity to become closer with me.
Needless to say, I marched straight out of the house with my backpack, past that bunch of saps, actually looking forward to school for once.
Being there early, I had plenty of time to hear my love walking down the hall with tall hair boy… after I had already set up his first prank
"Wow! I guess everyone's really into April Fool's day!"
"No kidding man! We gotta get into it!"
"I don't know Gerald. I'm not really into that kind of thing. I'm too…."
"I know, Loyal, trustworthy, kind… you're the perfect target!"
Whether or not Arnold had been paying attention to his locker (as opposed to hair boy's accurate speech), it wouldn't save him from my first prank!
The moment he opened it, a boxing glove slammed his football head face first onto the ground! Bull's Eye!
"Good one Helga."
Did I help him off the ground? Ptts! If you consider warning someone to keep their eyes open for the next prank they'd be unable to avoid helping, then sure. I helped him.
It didn't matter if I had a list ready in my head. My mind's creativity was sparking throughout the day. When we were asked to work on our History displays, I took that as my next opportunity to mess with him!
The instant I saw him leave his seat, I poured some glue that Simmons was crazy enough to give us on a prank day. What an idiot!
The moment Arnold sat, I just had to take my creativity further by throwing more art supplies on him (feathers), and use it as an opportunity to receive the entire class' attention.
"Hey look! Arnold's a bird!"
Did football head retaliate? What do YOU think? His goody two shoes nature was the perfect opportunity for me to take advantage of him all day long. Or so I thought….
Once lunch came, I sat on top of a table, feeling like Prince of Pranks, as opposed to the 'Fashion Princess.'
All it took was one more prank to drive Arnold out of his 'Just ignore her' state.
Once he had sat in the pudding I so graciously left in his chair, the laughter in the cafeteria matched his anger.
What? He's always whining if he doesn't get the last of the tapioca? I did him a freakin' favor!
Anyway, moments later I saw the sap entering the room again,,, with what I was sure had to be a prank on me.
"It's not a prank Helga. It's a birthday present."
"Yeah right, and I'm Mary Queen of Scotts!"
"I'm serious Helga. I mean your birthday was last week."
Even on April Fool's Day, I stood there not believing how my beloved could be so kind (let alone remember) something so sweet about someone so torturous. The vulnerable moment got the best of me, as I said…
"Gee… well thanks Arnold."
I opened the box to see a light stronger than Pheebs' IQ! I don't know where in the heck he got that from, but none of my jokes sent him to the nurse?!
It was only moments later in her office I received my sight back. That didn't exactly make me forgive Arnold however. If he wanted to play, why shouldn't I keep up my charade?
Acting blind, playing the sympathy card, it was working out as well as it had when I prolonged my amnesia.
The best part, Arnold felt he had to take me to the school dance. I don't know how he eventually discovered I wasn't REALLY blind, but the night ended well.
Especially the moment he and I danced together. He seemed to be enjoying himself all too much with me. When I heard the words "Don't worry my poor blind friend, you're in good hands" and saw his dreamy eyes, it was hard keeping up the charade.
Just wait 'til next year football head. The last laugh will be mine!
