(Hours later…)

Rex, Rose, and Zack were camping in the backyard of Rose's house. After all the commotion of the day, the news on the TV about monsters was going around as fast as the wind.

"I know Mina is in a school on the other side of town," Rose explained, "My mom and hers are pretty close, and she often wanted her to join me in modeling"

"And, she didn't come, did she?" Rex asked, "If not, we would have found them both."

"She is not like any girl. She has become a good soccer player"

"Yes, I heard her name once, but I didn't know much more" Zack commented, "I'm a basketball player, not a soccer player"

"She has some problems with her mother too. She wrote to me recently saying that sometimes her mother wouldn't let her go because she wanted me to help her in her brooming salon"

"But, that's no reason to be mad to her," Rex questioned.

"Tomorrow we will go to see her and you will know why I say it"

"But we'll also have to find Dylan and Luke," Rex continued, "Let's see… Luke's school is on the west side, isn't he?" Well, I'll go for Luke and you'll go for Mina. Then we'll all meet Dylan."

"Well, it seems like a very good plan" Zack told him, "Okay, let's sleep now and we'll act tomorrow"

(The next day…)

Rex, Rose and Zack split up. Re-evolving, Rex flew in the direction of Luke's school.

That institution was quite peculiar for its cream color in the buildings. Its location was next to a sports field, where there was also plenty of parking space and in front of them, there was a green park. The schoolyard were extensive, where students of a lower grade than him could be seen from the sky like little ants. Apparently, each building had different functions: primary school students, high school students, higher education, and admin's office.

Rex knew that he couldn't look for Luke from that high, so he had to go down without causing a ruckus from the students. Taking advantage of the fact that a cloud covered him, he quickly descended to the terrace of the high school students' building. Then he cautiously descended into the schoolyard.

Rex turned back to his human form. Now, the biggest doubt came from him: where to find Luke? Fortunately, a school bell rang and, fortunately for him, it was from the building next to him: the primary school.

"Well, maybe I can find him among the students who left," Rex thought, glancing around the schoolyard.

While the students who were already in the schoolyard (secondary, from what Rex could guess), were returning to their respective building, the primary students were leaving and Rex kept looking carefully if he found his friend among all of them.

"Come on Luke... where are you?" Rex wondered why Luke was no there, "Uh... he looks like..."

And it really was Luke, with the only difference that he was now wearing glasses. On the other hand, he was not exactly heading to the schoolyard to enjoy his rest, but he was heading to the library with a considerable amount of books in his hands.

"How strange" Rex thought, "Well, I have to get closer"

It wasn't just walking and crossing the schoolyard to get to the library, because he wasn't wearing the uniform of the other students and, if someone saw him, he would realize that he didn't belong to that school. Because of that, Rex had to go for a ride. When he got to the library building, he found Luke, sitting studying with a dozen books beside him. While it would seem like it was something for him to respect, he seemed like he was bored.

Rex touched the glass of the library, making Luke jump with a start. Noticing his friend, he leaned out the window.

"Rex?" he asked him, "What are you doing here?"

"I came to see you" Rex replied, "Have you heard that there are Pokemon attacking in this world?"

"Pokemon in this world?"

"Seriously, haven't you noticed?"

"Well... I've been studying lately and I haven't seen much of the news, what's wrong?"

Rex had to explain the situation to him, for this, Luke had to go out into the schoolyard.

"Ah, I see" he said after the explication, "But I have a lot to study... I can't help you"

"You cannot? Mew asked me to gather my friends! Zack and Rose went for Mina, we have to go for Dylan. Also, if we don't stop this, a war will break out between humans and Pokemon, there will be no schools to return to."

"I know but…"

"What's wrong with you? That I remember, you were never like that"

"It's complicated… my parents want me to study to become a doctor or an engineer in the future and… I don't want to disappoint them"

"Okay, I understand, but that choice to become a professional is yours, you must choose your own path"

"Your friend is right," said a voice behind them. It was a tall young teen, at least 17 years old, who could well be starting his higher studies.

"Esteban?" Luke said.

"Who?" Rex asked.

"He's my older brother, who is also studying to be a doctor," explained his friend.

He was a student at that school, but instead of reporting to Rex, he approached the two boys.

"As he was saying, your friend is absolutely right," Esteban told him, "Mom and Dad don't decide for you. Each person writes his own path"

"But what about…?" Luke asked.

"The money? Not everything in life is satisfied with money. You have to do what you want the most and in that you will define what you want to be"

The school start bell rang and the other students were heading back to class.

"Rex, can you wait until school is over?" Luke asked his friend, "I'll come with you later, I promise."

"No problem. Do what you have to do" he replied. So, Luke returned with his older sister to the building.

Rex sat down to wait, because he still had to gather energy after evolving: it wasn't simple willpower, because he had to balance it. Like this, about 5 minutes passed, then 10…

"It's true that school will take a long time" Rex thought, "Maybe I should join the others..."

But, before continuing to think, a ball of fire approached him. Feeling that hot sensation, he dodged it in time. Looking up, he could see who was responsible: it was a Talonflame.

"Time to evolve!" Rex shouted holding the Pokephone from him.

Immediately, his body evolved and transformed into Charmander.

"Charmander evolves into…Charmeleon!"

Quickly, Rex changed into his Charmeleon form. However, he still hadn't gathered enough energy for an ultra evolution. For his part, Talonflame attacked the boy with a quick Flame Charge. That first impact didn't hurt Rex, but he sent him flying and hit the school wall.

Through the windows, the boys and teachers looked out and saw the battle that was taking place. Almost immediately, the fire alarm sounded. That made Talonflame nervous and he started throwing himself against the windows of the buildings above (even with students inside) while he was on fire. The thing was starting to burn.

"Rex!" Luke ran out. The Talonflame attacked with Embers towards him.

"Luke!" shouted his companion and, standing in the middle, protected him from that fire, "Everybody get out! I'll take care of stopping him."

Luke nodded, realizing that he couldn't help at the moment. Then, everyone began to evacuate the burning buildings while Rex did what he could to hold off Talonflame. However, the fact that that Pokemon used Nitrocharge was giving it the necessary speed to surpass any ground Pokemon.

Rex had to land an accurate strike to knock Talonflame down and stop him. So, he waited for it to make his big dive towards him: it was his only chance. The bird Pokemon swooped down on the Charmeleon. Rex braced himself to thrown a Scratch, but in the blink of an eye, Talonflame dodged the blow and attacked Rex from the side, throwing him through a window and into the cafe building.

"Rex!" Luke yelled when he saw that.

However, another scream was heard: upstairs, in the high school building, Luke's older brother, Esteban, was helping one of his classmates due to Talonflame's madness attack, but now he was about to to fall

"Brother!" Luke yelled, so loud that he echoed through the entire school.

A light came out of Luke's pocket. This, when he took it out, revealed his cell phone that, as a miracle, he formed his Pokephone from that light.

"It's my new Pokephone" Luke said in amazement. Then, hearing his brother yell at him, he refocused, "Time to Evolve!"

His Pokephone glowed. So, Luke morphed back into Pidove, but he didn't end up there:

"Pidove evolves into… Tranquill!"

Luke evolved into Pidove and, taking flight like old times, he launched himself to save his brother, who slipped and fell. With his bird's claws, he held onto his arms.

"Are you alright, brother?" Luke asked.

"Luke?" asked Esteban, surprised, "Is that really you?"

"It's long to explain, but yes... hold on!"

Luke had to dodge more fire coming from Talonflame. He was supposed to reach the ground with his sister, but Talonflame prevented him. Also, every second he attacked, he set more and more of the school on fire.

"Watch out!" shouted Esteban.

Talonflame charged Luke with Brave Bird, causing him to drop his brother. Luke didn't leave this at all: he had to level up. Just thinking about it, the symbol of a wing appeared on his chest. This, and a new glow from his Pokephone, made him evolve again.

"Tranquill evolves into... Unfezant!"

Now, with this new increase in power, Luke flew fast and held his brother on his back. Esteban looked at his brother, surprised to see him changed again.

"You're not that little anymore, are you?" he teased himself.

"Let's save the jokes for later..." Luke told him.

In a second, he dropped him to the ground and headed for Talonflame. This one, threw another fire shower towards the high school building.

"Charmeleon ultra evolves into…Charizard!"

Rex appeared and blocked the fire attack.

"Rex!" Luke yelled, "How?"

"Your cafe food gives you energy back" Rex commented, "Take care of Talonflame, I'll take care of the fires"

Luke nodded and turned his attention back to Talonflame: he had to fly higher if he wanted to avoid more damage. So he rose higher. Fortunately for him, Talonflame fell and followed him.

"Sky attack!"

Luke attacked with it, while Talonflame countered with Brave Bird. Both birds collided forcefully in the air, in an intense combat.

"Air Slash!" yelled Luke in the last crash. It was so strong that it clouded the battle for a few seconds. When it cleared, Talonflame didn't find Luke.

"Up here!"

Talonflame looked up and accidentally caught a glimpse of the sun, momentarily blinding him. From there, Unfezant attacked with Air Slash. The blow was so strong that it released a dark technological ring. Before the Pokemon fell, Luke's Pokephone glowed and encased Talonflame in a Pokeball which then entered his device.

Luke gently landed on the ground after Rex finished putting out the flames (swallowing the fire). Then the firemen had arrived. As the fire was put out, Luke explained everything to his brother.

"I understand…" said his brother upon hearing the whole story, "I already knew that his disappearance last year was a strange thing. Well, apparently we will have a vacation for a few days. You should go with your friends"

"And what about the studies?" Luke asked.

"I will talk to our parents. You take it upon yourself to save the world before anything else happens"

"Thanks brother"

(A few minutes later…)

Rex and Luke, in their Ultra Forms, were flying in the direction of the coast.

"I have to admit, it's nice to flap our wings again," Luke said.

"I thought the same thing when I evolved again" Rex told him, "It's good to have you back, champion of flight"

Rex and Luke laughed as they headed towards where they had agreed with Zack and Rose.
