Nemona pov
Two weeks before the Devon Corporation gala.
"Sprigatito use Leafage! " I called out watching as Sprigatito shot off leafs at the opposing Smoliv momentary blocking it from my view. When the leafs disappeared the Smoliv was on the ground with spirals in its eyes.
My schoolmates cheered and began congratulating me. A pleasant feeling welled up in me as it always did in the aftermath of a battle. I felt like I was made for this, battling came so easily to me, I could just throw myself headfirst into Pokemon battles and forget about how my parents loved my perfect older sister more than me. At this point I'd challenged everyone in my class with a pokemon to a battle and while every battle was fun none of them compared to my battles with Liam. Unlike all of my classmates the boy from Hoenn and his Charcadet seemed to always be in perfect sync which made battling him a unique challenge that I'd yet to overcome.
After ensuring both Smoliv and Sprigatito were ok I said goodbye to my classmates and headed home.
" Nemona how was your day? " My mother asked as I walked into the house.
" It was fine." I said confused as to why she was bothering to greet me when normally she didn't.
" Oh that's nice I suppose." She said smiling before continuing. " So we've been invited to a charity gala on Hoenn, does your dress still fit?"
"Ugh, do we have to go I hate galas." I groaned already dreading it, before I processed the location. " Wait where in Hoenn? "
" Rustboro City, the Devon Corporation is holding its annual fundraiser charity gala." My mother said. " So does your dress still fit? "
" I don't know let me go check." I said as I ran past her up the stairs to my room a smile on my face. Flinging open my closet I grabbed my dress to try on.
To my dismay it didn't fit. Running back down the stairs I was shocked to find mother still waiting for me.
" Noitdoesn'tfitI'llsoprobablyneedanewone." I said mildly happy at the prospect of going shopping.
" Let's try that again but slower this time." Mother said contempt clear in her voice.
" No it doesn't fit, I'll need a new one." I said making sure to temper my excitement and slow down. After all if they thought I was too excitable they might leave me here and then how was I supposed to battle Liam.
" Very well, we'll go into town and get you one." Mother said looking at me strangely. Before heading towards the door. " Well come along."
Skipping I caught up to her and we walked into town together, likely drawing some glances as mother was frowning at me while I couldn't help but to smile. The actual dress shopping was quick at least I picked out a green dress that matched the highlight in my hair and had mesh sleeves with floral print on them.
Day of the gala
So even though we'd arrived at Rustboro City a day early I had underestimated how hard it would be to find Liam. Now I had to go to this boring gala and be bored. Putting on my dress we got ready to leave our hotel.and go to the Devon Corporation Building for the gala.
Entering the Devon Corporation I looked around in wonder at the decorations and all of the lights that were hung up. I decided to look around for something interesting as my sister and parents began mingling. Pity there weren't any pokemon battles happening. Looking around I saw some stairs deciding to go see where they led I began walking towards them. All of the sudden a young man with blue hair who looked vaguely familiar came down them and walked a short distance away before an older man with the same hair turned and saw him.
Wait a second that's Steven Stone the Champion of the Hoenn region. The older blue haired man walked up to Steven and began to converse with him. Steven made a gesture to his left side and shortly afterwards the older man with blue hair walked off looking happy. Steven then turned to his left then started walking a small smile on his face. Turning back I noticed Liam of all people standing to the left of where Steven had been. Liam began smiling as he started walking in the opposite direction.
" Ok Nemona remember you're at a gala, no battling or running." I said to myself as I walked towards him. Eh who's going to notice? I started running towards him. As I got closer I called out to him taking care to keep my voice at an appropriate volume.
"Nemona! " He said in surprise as he turned towards my voice. Only to be met with me slamming into him with a hug. He stiffened before slowly hugging me back. Both of us let go and stepped back.
"I'vemissedyousomuchnooneelseisachallenge likeyou.Canwebattle?"
I said no longer even bothering to try and hide my excitement.
" I got I missed you and can we battle out of that." He said chuckling as his smile seemed to brighten. " Did I miss anything important? We probably shouldn't battle here even though it'd be fun."
" No you got the important bits as always." I said feeling happy that he was here, wait why was he here. " Wait a second why are you here?"
" My father is one of the Department heads for the Devon Corporation." He said suddenly looking a little confused. " Not that I'm not happy to see you but why are you here?"
" Well to battle you obviously but my Dad was invited, he owns one of the companies that develops phones." I responded.
" Oh that makes sense. Somehow I can't picture you as a corporate heiress though." He said looking around for something. That comment hurt.
" Honestly with your talent I would've pictured you as a champion trainer." He continued and suddenly the hurt went away. " I'll be right back I should probably let my parents know I haven't disappeared."
He walked over two a couple and said something to them before pointing at Steven and then me. He then walked back over to me.
" What was that about ?" I asked wondering what he was saying to his parents.
" Well you see I sorta snuck off to go explore upstairs." He started explaining. " While I was up there I heard a loud crash so I went to check it out and found a Beldum trying to go through a circle filled with spinning doors. Anyway after asking it if I could have a turn I had Charcadet go through the doors then Steven showed up because the Beldum belongs to him and then we had Charcadet go through one more time so Beldum could watch and try to learn our method of completing the exercise. Then we had Beldum try and it went through and I came back down with Steven and ran into you. So I had to explain that to them but without telling them I snuck off so do me a favor and keep it a secret."
" That is so unfair, you got to sneak off and hang out with a champion." I said pouting. " Why can't I get that lucky."
" You ran into me though." He said as music started to play and people began dancing. His tone took a teasing tone as he continued. " What am I not cool enough ? "
" Do you want to dance? " I suddenly asked trying to change the subject. My cheeks heating up as what I said sank in. After a few moments of silence I tried to salvage things. " I mean if you don't want to it's fine."
" It's not that." He immediately said as he scratched the back of his head, his cheeks turned just a hint of red. His voice became quieter as he continued. " I don't know how to dance."
" What was that? " I asked having been unable to make out what he mumbled.
" It's not that I don't want to dance with you. I just don't know how to dance." He said looking rather shy in that moment.
I couldn't help but to burst out laughing. The normally confidant to the point of arrogant Liam Saterr didn't know how to dance and was embarrassed about it.
" It's fine, I don't normally dance at these things anyway." I said after seeing his dejected expression.
" I'll learn before the next one." He said his expression was suddenly unreadable.
After we'd talked through several more songs my phone rang taking it out I saw it was Mother calling so I answered it.
" Nemona it's time for us to go back to the hotel we've got an early flight in the morning." Mother said.
" Ok, I'll meet you at the entrance." I replied feeling sad. " Quick let's exchange phone numbers. I forgot to when you were in Paldea."
We quickly exchanged phone numbers before I had to head towards the entrance. Quickly I hugged him again.
" By the way your dress looks nice." He said as we separated.
" Thanks." I stuttered out as I turned and walked to the entrance.

Now to address the reviews
To Walkmanapprenticewordsmith- So on the pokemon speech. You're right it is bland and boring so here's a sorta excuse. In the anime it seems the end part of a pokemon's name is often primarily used when they are actively attacking. the "chu" in Pikachu for example. Honestly it just didn't occur to me to very it up. In regards to your second comment, yeah that makes more sense. Do you happen to know if Dragalge can fly. I mean Metagross can hover and kinda fly so.
To wanderer097- Yeah I plan to do most of what you've had I just haven't had a chance to naturally insert it. Glad you like the Charcadet pov chapter. Absol is going into the strong possibility category. I like the pick. when you ask how is being a pokemon trainer as a career are you asking to see day in the life stuff or logistics stuff, please clarify?
To Runeion- So outside of Megastones and everstones I'm not sure how this would be accomplished mainly due to logistical concerns. Take an item like scoop lense for example which if I were to use items I would use since Inteleon will have Sniper. How does Scope lense work, as a game mechanic we know it increases the chance of getting critical hit but how. Does it zoom in on the opponent so that the user is more accurately able to target weak spots if so does that negatively impact a pokemon in close quarters. If I or someone in the comments can come up with a functional way to have items work I'm not opposed to the idea even if i think the idea of making Inteleon wear scope lenses all the time unasthetic. Sorry my response is essentially I don't know how they would work and I don't know.
To CrimsonStarBlade- Oddly enough your comment didn't show up until after I posted this chapter. while I'm not a huge fan of seedot or its evolution I do like playing with opposites so maybe. It would depend right now Tyrantrum is on the table as a potential member of the team so maybe Kalos and revive. but I'm also partial to Sinnoh so who knows. I'll have to look at all the fossil pokemon again and consider it. i can say the Gen 1 fossils will definitely not be on Liam's team so if he were to get them he would likely trade them to Steven. Yeah the Beldum from chapter 08 will end up with Liam. No spoilers on how or why though.
Having some mild formatting issues with some of Nemona's superfast dialogue. On mobile one part of her dialogue just doesn't show up. if you notice this before I hopefully manage to fix it then the dialogue is " I've missed you so much no one else is a challenge like you. Can we battle?" but smashed together to indicate speed of talking.
