" What? Jonin team 8 is found dead?"

Naruto asked while completely astonished.

" Yes indeed, the sad news reached us yesterday. As for what we can see the Jonin team was assigned to defend a convoy containing the feudal lord of the Land of fire, but the Jonins got slaughtered alongside the convoy and the feudal lord." replied Shikamaru with a sigh.

" This is outrageous! we must track those Bastards who had the nerve to kill our feudal lord!" proclaimed Hiyashi, the current head of the Hyuga clan.

" I would've also immediately ordered for that lord Hiashi, but we are in a tight situation here. We have come to know through our spies that the act was committed by Kumo Jonin that is." Shikamaru calmly replied to Hiyashi Hyuga.

" We are clearly caught in a tight situation, there seem to be only two ways. Negotiation or war." Kakashi says calml, Kakashi Hatake had long since retired from his position as hokage but still attended the council.

" We should first send a letter to the Raikage asking for justification, it could be an act committed by the Jonins themselves and not ordered by the Raikage. We'll leave it there for now." Naruto said leaning his head on his hands.

The councilors muttered amongst themselves for a while and then walked out of the council-room as there was nothing else of importance to discourse on. Now only Naruto, Kakashi and some Anbu guards remained in the building.

" You know Naruto, I am a veteran of two world wars and served as Hokage. And what I can see, you are too lenient when it comes to diplomacy just like old man third. Other villages seem to think of us as weak since your losing of the nine-tails and Sasuke losing his rinnegan." Kakashi calmly speaks and looks at Naruto.

" I know sensei, but being aggressive and demanding is not good either. Relations have been boiling with other nations and we must treat them goodly." Naruto replies as he walks towards the window. Kakashi also then left the room.

Naruto gazes at the beautiful village of his, it was a magnificent sight at night. Konoha had been totally restored since the pain attack and was very planned now. Suddenly the electricity in the room went off and it was complete darkness save for the moonlight coming from the window. As Naruto turned back from the window to leave, a quick dark flash seemed to come at him. It would have been impossible for the naked eye to see that but Naruto sensed it and dodged the attack narrowly. A sword was swung at him again, but he quickly took out a Kunai from his pocket and parried the sword. Naruto then quickly made three shadow clones and rushed at his attacker, with a forming Rasengan in his hand. The attacker was standing beside the window and from the moonlight half of his body could be seen, he had a masked face and wore Armour that belonged to Kumo Jonin and also a cloud headband. Naruto quickly understood this was an assassination attempt and called in the Anbu stationed outside. The assassin now also knew he will have to make it quick, he joined his hands and raised both his palms towards Naruto and then a stream of lightning appeared from his hand. The lightning was very fast but Naruto wasn't Hokage for nothing, he quickly added Wind nature to his Rasengan and canceled his assassin's lightning jutsu with it.

Then the gates swung open and several Anbu guards appeared out of the windows, doors and walls. The assassin, knowing he had already failed his mission tried to escape but one of the leaf Anbu quickly placed a paralysis seal on him, Not allowing him to escape.

" Detain him and extract whatever you can from this shinobi. He doesn't seem to be a rogue ninja." Naruto ordered one of the masked Anbu as they were taking the assassin to prison.

' What is the meaning of this? Why would Kumogakure attempt my assassination? Or is it a scheme from a hidden enemy?' Naruto wondered, but soon got out of his thoughts and quietly went home. He casually ate dinner and went to bed, though this time Anbu guards were placed around his house and the village.

Hokage's office

Konohagakure

Naruto was casually doing his paper work when their was a knock on his office door.

" Come in." he said and looked up, it was one of the anbu from yesterday who had detained the assassin.

" I have a report to provide lord seventh, we interrogated him and used the truth seal to find out anything we can. Turns out this was actually a planned assassination attempt conducted by Kumogakure." the masked Anbu said, Naruto's face became worried, He then ordered,

" Send for Shikamaru Nara, Kakashi Hatake and all the other councilors to assemble in the council hall immediately, there is something of much importance here."

" Yes lord." The anbu vanished after saying this.

ten minutes later

" Have you called for us Naruto? You said there was something important to take care of." Shikamaru said as he entered the Hokage's office alongside other councilors and elders.

" Yes indeed, it has been found out that the assassination attempt from yesterday was actually a planned one conducted by Kumogakure, I was lucky to survive. Do you remember the attack on the convoy including the feudal lord of the Land of fire? That too was committed on purpose by the hidden cloud." Naruto said in a serious tone.

Everybody face turned dead serious, then Kakashi spoke,

" This is an invitation for open war! They have killed our feudal lord and now attempt the same on our village's leader. Naruto, we must take action before those negros spread their legs even more."

All the others in the council room murmured in agreement with Kakashi and then Shikamaru said,

" I agree with lord sixth Naruto, who knows maybe some Kumo ninja are already in our territory preparing for a surprise attack. What they have done is not some minor mistake but a well-planned attack, suffice to say they have declared war against us and it would be foolishness if we keep insisting on some 'peaceful' outcome."

The councilors and Naruto Uzumaki the Hokage conversed on the situation for half an hour and then Naruto stood up and spoke,

" Very well then, Kumogakure has chosen war and we shall give it to them. Order all shinobi currently outside of the village to stay alert and those in the village to prepare, we will not be taken by surprise."

All the people present agreed and supported their Hokage's decision, what Kumo had done was beyond tolerable and it was clear they wished for war, so they shall receive it.

Author's notes

Alright I was having a writer's block for my other story so I wrote this to pass time, don't worry I'll keep this story short and satisfying. Also the timeline is in Boruto after a few weeks of Naruto losing Kurama and Sasuke also losing his Rinnegan as I thought this timeline will be the most fair for a war between the shinobi nations.
