Author's Note: Terribly sorry for the long delay on this chapter. I was hoping to return with some pictures included on the AO3 and Deviantart postings but life got super busy. I'll update this story with the images at a later date.
Anyways enough about me. NOW BACK TO BEN 10 AND MIRACULOUS!
"BEN!"
"Lucky Girl! Take cover!" Cat Noir warned.
Lucky Girl came back to her senses, realizing there were more buildings soon to follow. She flew out of the way of the next two buildings as she grabbed her bag. Her feet hit the ground running as she removed the Charm of Telekinesis from her right bracelet, swapping it for the Charm of Electrokinesis.
With a deep breathe, she reached for her spellbook. She opened her free hand, as if expecting to catch something from the book itself. A moment later the book opened on its own to a page, only for a thin and long staff to emerge from it. It was thin and wooden brown with a carving of a bird skull on top, a metal ring running through its empty eyes.
She counted how many mutant birds were in the sky. "Now I can take care of them. Cover your eyes!" Lucky Girl told Ladybug and Cat Noir. "TEMPESTUS IMPAETUS!"
Unfortunately for Cat Noir the moment after Lucky Girl said those words, he suddenly had an unprotected view of the sky lighting up from the lightning summoned from Lucky Girl's spell.
While Cat Noir was left momentarily blinded and blinking the spots in his eyes, Ladybug had luckily been looking away from the sky when the lightning spell struck. She whipped her head around at the sound of the clapping thunder that followed to see all the mutant birds falling from the sky. "Whoa."
Despite the small wave of exhaustion, Lucky Girl felt relieved. Had it not been for the staff's power, she would have been incapacitated for the rest of the fight. Practice was finally paying off. "That's for Ben."
A loud groan and rubble movement drew their attention to the building Four Arms was under. "Be-" This time Lucky Girl caught herself. "Four Arms! Are you alright?"
Four Arms grunted as he crawled out of the rubble. "What do you think? Didn't think Tuesday would fall on me."
*BEEP*
"Oh no."
*BEEP* *BEEP* *BWOOOOOOOP*
A red light filled the area, leaving a tired Spanner in place where the four-armed alien once was.
"Hey, I still had plenty of time left you stupid watch!" Spanner yelled at the red Omnitrix. "What gives?"
"Maybe that beam of Animo took some time off your transformation," Lucky Girl suggested, unsure herself on the situation. She quickly swapped Electrokinesis back to Telekinesis.
A loud roar in the distance brought everyone back to their current situation. Ladybug was the first to speak. "Never mind that, we need to regroup and make a new plan." She rushed over to the closest man cover. "To the sewers, now!"
A closer roar killed any rebuttals anyone might have had as the four heroes jumped in one after another.
"And you're certain?" Dr. Humanimal asked his pack of dogs.
Barks of affirmation answered.
Dr. Humanimal growled. "They're all a slippery bunch of interferers. No matter. I still have creations that can follow them whichever corner of the world they hide in. Isn't that right?"
Several hisses answered back as they slithered towards the manhole.
Meanwhile in the sewers: Lucky Girl and Spanner had followed the heroes of Paris through the sewers, putting as much distance as possible to get a small break from the action. They were also using the brief time they had to figure out what the other duo could do.
"So, that watch of yours is an alien device that changes you into different aliens."
Spanner nodded. "Yup."
"And you can do magic thanks to those charms?"
"That's right," Lucky Girl nodded as she finished her walk around of Cat Noir and Ladybug. "And the two of you have magical creatures that allow you to transform with jewelry? And there's another person with jewelry after yours who gives people powers and controls them?"
"Summarized but yes," Ladybug replied, closing her yoyo. "Well, I can confirm that something else is in play considering some of those characters you've fought aren't showing up in American news. I'm surprised you both have good French if you were born and raised over there."
"Well, that because of our communication links," Lucky Girl replied, tapping her earpiece and Spanner's helmet. "Our grandpa was a Plumber-" Cat Noir raised an eyebrow. "-space policeman fighting bad aliens and this tech was used to communicate with aliens is now translating French and English right now for us to understand each other."
"That sounds cool, but not as cool as that watch," Cat Noir said. "Any chance we can swap? My ring for your watch?"
"Cat Noir!" Ladybug chided as Spanner covered the Omnitrix.
Cat Noir raised his hands defensively. "I was joking! Jokes aside how are we going to take down that ape? He sounds like someone both are familiar with?"
Both Lucky Girl and Spanner nodded. "Dr. Animo."
"He creates inventions that are able to turn any animal into a mutant form of themselves under his bidding," Spanner said.
"He believes it's the next stage in evolution and that it will win him all prizes imaginable," Lucky Girl finished. "You mentioned he was kuma something or other? Is that why he looks so different and stronger?"
Ladybug nodded. "Yes, but the akuma can only transform something by using an object on them to help them transform into what they are now. Usually, it's something dear to them or has meaning."
Spanner and Lucky Girl looked at each other. "His device!"
Lucky Girl looked at the confused Miraculous holders. "The device on his chest is probably where it is then. We take that down and then you can reverse everything that happened?"
"Everything that he caused while akumatized," Ladybug corrected. "I can't send you home since it wasn't related to a Miraculous' power."
"So, we're stuck here?" Spanner asked. "Grandpa, our homes…"
"Grandpa wouldn't sit and do nothing," Gwen assured him. "I'm sure of it. You've seen how tech savvy he can be." Despite her confidence, Ladybug and Cat Noir could tell that even she wasn't entirely sure as well.
*growl*
Spanner slumped, clutching his stomach. "Ugh, I need to eat. Any good places around here that are free for tourists?"
"There are a few who give the two of us a free bite to eat," Cat Noir replied. "So long as you're with us, I'm sure-" His cat ears immediately whipped behind him, alert. "Oh, that doesn't sound good."
Everyone turned in the direction his ears were pointed, down the tunnel they came from. "Dr. Humanimal sent some friends our way?" Ladybug asked. Cat Noir nodded. "Alright we're going to move out and try to get some food in both of you. Follow us."
A small *ding* drew Spanner's attention down to the Omnitrix. "All right back in the green! It's hero time."
"We're probably going to need XLR8 for this one," Lucky Girl advised as they ran.
Spanner was going through his alien selection. "That's just who I was thinking! We got a lot of ground to cover after-" He slammed the Omnitrix down on XLR8.
"-all," he squeaked out. "Oh man! Not Grey Matter!"
Lucky Girl stopped as she looked down at the grey five-inch brainiac alien Spanner had turned into. "Spanner!"
"Hey, I had XLR8 on the dial, blame the watch for choosing a thinker over a speeder!"
Ladybug and Cat Noir had stopped and backtracked to see what was going on. "So, what does this alien do? Think?" Cat Noir asked.
"He's super smart," Grey Matter replied, jumping into Lucky Girl's hand before the three regular sized heroes continued running. "Crazy smart, half the time I don't know what I'm doing or saying."
Ladybug hummed as she thought over possibilities. "How much time do you usually have as an alien?"
"Ten minutes give or take," Grey Matter replied.
Ladybug slowed down to Lucky Girl's pace. "Then you're with me for the next ten minutes, Spanner."
"Huh? Nuh-uh, I'm not leaving Lucky Girl's side!"
"Don't worry, she'll have a fellow cat watching her back," Cat Noir replied. "Besides, Ladybug is the best with concocting a plan."
Ladybug nodded. "But this time it's with someone you two are familiar with."
Grey Matter realized what they were getting at. "And with me being the smartest alien I have, I'm the best help for that." He sighed. "Lucky Girl?"
"I'll be fine," Lucky Girl said to him as they stopped at a fork in the sewer passageway. "You know I can look after myself."
A loud hiss echoing down the sewer line heightened the urgency.
"Alright then, while we look for something to eat give me all the details you can on what someone with an akuma is weak to and I'll fill you in on what the device does." Grey Matter jumped onto Ladybug's shoulder. "I'm hoping it still works the same but enhanced considering how much more mutant the animals are. And people now."
"I know just the place," Ladybug said to the small alien before turning to the two cat-clad heroes. "Be careful you two."
"I may not have your Lucky Charm this time, Milady, but I have hers this time," Cat Noir comforted her. "Plus I know a place with good food."
"Not a trash can alley cat!" Ladybug replied as she ran down one side of the forked passageway.
"You wound me, Milady." Cat Noir said as he ran down the other with Lucky Girl on his heels. "Don't worry I know this nice little café on a corner."
Lucky Girl let out relieved breath. "Okay I was worried for a second."
"Cat only in the name. So what do that staff and those charms do?"
Lucky girl twirled the Staff of Ages in her grip. "This amplifies my spells, very useful for the harder ones I need to use. I swap out the Telekinesis usually but useful for getting around." She levitated in the air next to Cat Noir to demonstrate that point. "Always got the Lucky one on me as well as Resurrection and the Keystone to amplify everything."
Cat Noir widened his eyes. "What? Resurrection!? Are you-"
"Not dead!" Lucky Girl clarified. "I mean it can do that, but it allows me to recover if I get hit pretty hard. Although the Luck Charm has ensured I haven't so far."
"Good, I'd hate to think that you were digging into your nine lives."
"Haven't needed it yet. When I need to fight, Pyrokinesis or Electrokinesis are what I swap out Telekinesis."
"With my Miraculous and your Charms we'll definitely give Dr. Humanimal a run for his- GO UP!"
Cat Noir extended his baton as Lucky Girl followed his direction and moved up, the change in direction helped them avoid the wall that had been next to them a moment ago exploding with a hiss of a giant snake.
"We're going to need to speed up if we don't want to become a snack while getting you one!"
Author's Note: Considering how serious the Ben 10 Original Series was I think both would be confused at the banter Ladybug and Cat Noir would do. I know they do have their quips every now and then but thought it was a nice little addition to have to show the dynamics in the two duos mixing.
Anyways don't worry about a huge delay for the next chapter, I'm scheduling time so I can post once every week or every other week. Chapter 5 is almost done, but it needs some last edits from my pal Archer, but the ending for the series needs to be finalized.
